Private jet charter in Dortmund
An hour is roughly what a light jet needs to carry you from the London fields to the Ruhr, and Dortmund, the largest city of that region, sits at the end of it. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around the reason you are going. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Dortmund is easy to reach and a little awkward to leave late. The city has its own airport with a 2,000 m runway, a separate terminal for private flights and customs on site, but scheduled departures stop at 22:00, so an evening match at the stadium or a long dinner after a trade fair can push a departure towards Düsseldorf or Cologne, which take late movements. Most of the planning here is about that clock, the cabin size and what the trip is for.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Dortmund depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Luton, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Dortmund?
An hour and five minutes from Biggin Hill in a light jet, an hour and a half from Edinburgh, and one hour of clock difference to add on arrival, because Germany keeps Central European time. At roughly 294 to 521 nautical miles this is the short end of what we fly to the continent: far less than a light jet can do, and close enough that the whole trip fits inside a morning. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Wheels up at half past eight from a London airfield and you are on the ground at Dortmund just after half past ten local time: about an hour and five minutes in the air, with an hour added by the clock. The airport sits roughly 10 km east of the city centre, so the drive in is a short one and a client who left a London office at half past seven can be in a Dortmund meeting room before lunch. Add the drive to the British airfield and the quick processing at both terminals and the whole journey comes to about three and a half hours. For a day trip that leaves a full working day on the ground, which is the whole case for chartering.
Light jet or midsize: the question that actually comes up on this route
– Up to about five people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the right answer. At an hour and a quarter in the air a bigger cabin buys comfort you will barely use, and the 2,000 m runway is no obstacle to a Phenom or a CJ3+;
– Past that, or with trade-fair stands, sample cases or a squad's kit, we quote a midsize or super-midsize jet alongside it so you see both figures. The runway is 2,000 m and takes most of that class, but with full tanks and a full cabin the operator has to confirm performance for the day, and we ask for that in writing;
– Heavy and ultra-long-range aircraft belong at Düsseldorf or Cologne, where the runways are 2,700 m and longer. They make sense when the party is large, when the aircraft stays with you across several European stops, or when Dortmund is the first leg of something much longer.

Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into the general aviation terminal at Dortmund Airport. Football evenings, the large trade fairs and the Christmas market weekends sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Private jet flights from Dortmund
Dortmund is a good place from which to see the rest of Germany at short notice. Frankfurt is about 100 nautical miles away and Hamburg 160, so each is a short hop; Amsterdam, Berlin, Zurich, Munich and Paris all sit within a light or midsize jet, and the Riviera is a longer sector but still well inside one. Why the onward sectors are quick
Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Switzerland are all inside the Schengen area, so a flight from Dortmund to any of them needs no passport control on arrival, and the terminal formalities at the other end are as short as the flight. A light jet covers the German sectors in about an hour. The same trip on the ground is a long day, and that gap is what pays for the charter. Turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 are worth a quote on the shortest hops, where they save a good deal against a jet.
Before you accept an onward quote from Dortmund
– Which airport, and for what hours. Dortmund schedules departures until 22:00 and landings until 23:00, with only a limited number of delayed movements allowed beyond that, so a quote that has you leaving at eleven in the evening assumes an exception that someone has to ask for. Ask which airport the aircraft will actually use at each end;
– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Dortmund to Hamburg to Berlin over two days costs noticeably less as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of repositioning to Dortmund between each stop.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Dortmund:
Light jets, and where most bookings land
This is where most Dortmund bookings land. A sector of little more than an hour needs no more range, so the money goes on the hour and not on capability you will not use.
Midsize, for fair stands and sample cases
Exhibition stands, sample cases and a team that wants room to work in the air are what push a party past the light-jet hold.
Super-midsize and large
For a delegation travelling as one party and for trips that carry on beyond Europe. Dortmund's 2,000 m runway suits much of this class but not all of it, and the heaviest aircraft are routed to Düsseldorf or Cologne.
Turboprops
The Pilatus PC-12 earns its place on the short German and Dutch sectors, where it saves a good deal against a jet and needs far less runway.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the hop between Ruhr airfields and for a site that has no runway. German rules on landing away from an approved airfield are strict, so the site is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Dortmund sits inside a dense cluster of business aviation airports, with Düsseldorf, Cologne, Essen/Mülheim, Münster/Osnabrück and Paderborn all within about an hour by air, so for a booking that is not in a fair week there is often an aircraft already close by, and that is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Dortmund
One airport is the obvious choice and the others matter for specific reasons. It helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Dortmund Airport DTM / EDLW |
The first choice for almost every trip to the city. It lies about 10 km east of the centre, with one asphalt runway of 2,000 m and an ILS approach, which is enough for turboprops, light and midsize jets and many super-midsize types. Business flights use a General Aviation Terminal run by the airport company, apart from the main terminal, with its own customs, immigration and security for private passengers, and a handler, Dortmund Handling Service, for dispatch and ground services. The airport opens at 06:00, scheduled departures run until 22:00 and landings until 23:00, and a capped number of delayed movements are allowed to 23:30 each month. We confirm slot and handling requirements with the airport for your date |
| Düsseldorf International DUS / EDDL |
The big alternative, roughly 65 km south-west of Dortmund and about 7 km north of Düsseldorf itself. Two runways of 3,000 m and 2,700 m take anything we send, and Jet Aviation runs a small terminal for private and corporate customers. It is a coordinated airport, so a slot has to be arranged, and night movements fall under noise limits that we check for the date. The choice for large jets, for a departure after 22:00 and for passengers whose business is really in Düsseldorf |
| Cologne Bonn CGN / EDDK |
About 80 km south of Dortmund as the crow flies, with a main runway of 3,815 m and round-the-clock operation. Slot and handling arrangements are confirmed for the date. It is the second route for a late or heavy aircraft, and the better one when half the trip is in Cologne or Bonn |
| Münster/Osnabrück FMO / EDDG |
About 70 km north of Dortmund, 25 km from Münster. A runway of 2,170 m, with customs, slot and handling terms confirmed for the date. A sensible choice when the meeting is in Münster or the Münsterland, and not for Dortmund itself |
| Paderborn/Lippstadt PAD / EDLP |
About 70 km east of Dortmund, about 18 km from Paderborn, with a 2,180 m runway. Customs, slot and handling terms are confirmed for the date. It is the practical airport for clients whose business is east of the Ruhr, in the Paderborn and Lippstadt area |
| Essen/Mülheim ESS / EDLE |
A smaller field about 6 km south-west of Essen and roughly 50 km from Dortmund, with a 1,553 m runway, used for flight training, general aviation and business charters and with no scheduled flights. It suits turboprops and the lightest jets and no one else, and it makes sense only when the destination is Essen or Mülheim |
Four points settle most Dortmund arrivals:
Choose the terminal and the handler
The General Aviation Terminal at Dortmund is run by the airport company and sits apart from the commercial terminal, with a quiet lounge and separate customs, immigration and security for private flights. Dortmund Handling Service looks after dispatch, turnaround and ground services. Handling is optional, so the operator can bring its own, and we ask which one it prefers.
Hours, slots and noise
The airport opens at 06:00. Scheduled departures run until 22:00 and landings until 23:00, and the permit allows a limited number of delayed flights each month up to 23:30. That allowance exists for airlines running late, so for a business flight we plan to be away by 22:00 and ask the airport in writing for anything later. Slot and handling terms are confirmed for your date.
Border and passport
Germany is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the terminal on arrival. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for at least three months after departure. On a first visit you may be asked to register fingerprints and a photograph.
Car and match days
Give us the terminal as well as the flight, because a driver told only Dortmund Airport can wait at the wrong door. On match days we time the car around the traffic towards the stadium. For a conference or fair, ask the organiser whether protocol cars already cover the airport run.

The late departure and the other airports
Dortmund is a place where the nearest airport wins only while the clock is on your side. If the evening runs past 22:00, or the aircraft is too big for a 2,000 m runway, Düsseldorf is about 65 km away and Cologne about 80 km, and Cologne Bonn works round the clock. Land at Dortmund for the arrival, since it is the closer one, and ask us to price the departure from the airport that matches the hour.

From the apron to Signal Iduna Park
Dortmund is the largest city of the Ruhr and the ninth largest in Germany, a place of about 600,000 people that grew on coal and steel and now lives on logistics, insurance, software and biomedical technology. Signal Iduna, Wilo and Rhenus Logistics all have their headquarters here, and the Technologiepark houses about 280 companies. The airport is on the eastern edge, and the distances that matter run out to the other airports of the region.

Flying to Dortmund with a dog or a cat
Germany asks for more paperwork than the flight itself takes, and the flight is short enough that most animals sleep through it. With the operator's agreement the animal sits beside you in the cabin and no hold is involved. What matters is that the health certificate is dated correctly, because it is valid for entry into the EU for only ten days from the day it is issued.

What Germany and the UK ask for:
- A microchip, fitted before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination, never after it;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 full days passed before travel;
- An animal health certificate from your vet, issued for each trip and valid for ten days for entry into the EU and, for the return to Great Britain, as stated on the certificate;
- Arrival through an authorised entry point, where customs or the official veterinary service checks the documents, which our handler arranges at the terminal;
- No more than five animals per traveller;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than five days before arrival back in Britain. The rule applies to dogs only.
What catches owners out on the Dortmund run
– Germany is not among the countries that ask for tapeworm treatment on the way in, so the vet visit is the one before the flight home. Book it in Dortmund towards the end of the stay and put the time on the certificate, because the window is narrow;
– A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used to enter the EU. The certificate has to be a fresh one for each trip, and an animal whose rabies vaccination expires during the trip loses the right to onward travel or re-entry on it;
– A Christmas market weekend with a dog is an ordinary booking, but settle the hotel and any helicopter before the quote, because each has to accept the animal separately.
Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Dortmund calendar: a football city with a fair habit
Dortmund keeps a more even rhythm than a resort. Winter belongs to the trade fairs and, from late November, to the Christmas market; the football season fills the weekends and the European evenings, and autumn is the corporate season. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why a match night or a fair week costs more
Not the flying. What tightens is hotels, cars and the clock. A match that kicks off in the evening ends close to the airport's published closing time, so the aircraft either leaves the next morning or goes out of Düsseldorf or Cologne, and a night of parking and crew accommodation becomes a line in the quote. A booking made a fortnight before a big fair can still be done, but it pays more and may mean an aircraft positioned from another airport. The same booking made five or six weeks ahead is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks Dortmund is an easy city to fly into, and a charter can often be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Dortmund price down
- Move the dates a few days where you can. The days between fairs are quieter, and a Christmas market visit on a weekday costs less than the same trip on a Saturday;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Düsseldorf, Cologne or Amsterdam needs far less positioning than one flying out from Britain, and on a sector of just over an hour positioning is a meaningful share of the bill;
- Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people and four bags do not need a midsize, and the money saved buys the car and the hotel.
Types of flights
Dortmund produces a different mix from the Alpine or Mediterranean destinations we cover, because it is an industrial and exhibition city with a football club that draws visitors from across Europe.
- Corporate and fair travel, tied to the exhibition halls and to the headquarters of insurers, logistics and engineering firms in the city, where the dates are fixed and arrival on time is the main concern;
- Football weekends and European nights at the stadium, which mean a short stay, a late finish and, as a rule, a departure the next morning;
- Day trips from London, which at about an hour each way are one of the easiest working days on the continent;
- German and Benelux business hops to Frankfurt, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Brussels, often tied in with a Dortmund stop;
- Christmas market weekends, by small parties and often with a dog;
- Onward travel from the Ruhr to the Alps, the Riviera and the Gulf, usually when a party has combined business with leisure.
The day trip is worth a closer look. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. Leaving at eight and coming back in the early evening gives you most of a working day in Dortmund and your own bed at night, and on this route we quote it both ways so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Dortmund route they come from the pattern of events rather than from sheer volume, and it helps to know what produces them.
Where Dortmund empty legs come from
– Match days and fair weeks. Aircraft arrive with an event party and often leave empty a day or so later, producing outbound legs in the days after;
– Christmas market weekends. Aircraft come in on a Friday or Saturday and go back to their bases on the Sunday, and that evening leg is the one most often offered;
– Rhine-Ruhr rotation. Operators move aircraft between Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Cologne and the Dutch airports, and the short German legs between them can be cheap.
Because the Dortmund corridor is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Dortmund match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In the Ruhr a helicopter is a tool for the gaps between airfields and not for the middle of a trip. Dortmund, Essen, Düsseldorf and Cologne are close enough that a rotor can link them without a runway at either end, but German law does not let a helicopter land wherever it likes.
about 65 km, the quickest way to reach a long-runway airport for a late departureabout 25 minutes
about 50 km, to the western Ruhr and the small Essen fieldabout 20 minutes
about 80 km, for a connection to a long-haul departureabout 30 minutes
about 70 km north, for the Münsterlandabout 25 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– Landings outside an approved airfield need permission from the state aviation authority in Germany. A hotel lawn, a company car park or a private estate has to have its status confirmed before we quote, not after, and rooftop sites need a separate safety review;
– Weather sets the schedule. Low cloud over the Ruhr can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without difficulty, so a transfer needs a road or rail alternative in the same plan;
– Twin-engine machines are the sensible minimum for any transfer across a built-up area. For match weekends and the Christmas market, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for light work, the wider H130 for scenic and estate transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Dortmund charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
A morning meeting in Dortmund and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Dortmund and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 05 min each way · 4 pax
Wheels up at half past eight, on the ground at Dortmund a little after half past ten local time, in the meeting before noon and back at Biggin Hill by early evening. The aircraft and crew waited at the general aviation terminal rather than going home, which is a real line in the quote and still comes in below two separate one-way charters. It is an easy day and it works.
MATCH NIGHT · THE CLOCK CHOSE THE AIRPORT
Six people, an evening fixture and a flight home the same night
London City - Dortmund out, Düsseldorf - London City back, Citation XLS+ · 6 pax
They flew in on the match afternoon and the final whistle fell after Dortmund's last scheduled departure. Asking for an exception would have been a gamble, so the return left from Düsseldorf, which takes late movements, with a car waiting at the stadium. The extra drive and the repositioned aircraft were in the quote from the start, not a surprise at midnight.
TRADE FAIR · FIXED DATES
A delegation for an autumn finance fair
London Luton - Dortmund, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 05 min · 8 pax
The dates were set by the organisers and not by the client. Eight people, laptops, printed folders and a request for a car at the aircraft door. The booking went in six weeks ahead, the handler pre-arranged the passport check at the terminal, and the aircraft left Luton on time with nothing to explain.
CHRISTMAS MARKET · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend
Southampton - Dortmund, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 10 min · 4 pax + dog
The animal health certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Dortmund for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 hours and five days before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the hotel took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages rather than three.
HEAVY CABIN · THE LONGER RUNWAY WON
A board party flying on from the Ruhr
Dortmund area - Dubai, Bombardier Global 6000 from Düsseldorf · 10 pax
The client asked for Dortmund because the meeting was there. The aircraft for the onward leg to the Gulf was a heavy jet, and with a full fuel load for a long sector the operator preferred a longer runway than Dortmund's 2,000 m. The party arrived in Dortmund by a light jet from London, drove to the meeting, and the long-range aircraft picked them up at Düsseldorf. Two aircraft, one timetable.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST
A jet already going your way
Dortmund - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 05 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Dortmund
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Dortmund?
About 1 hour 5 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, and 1 hour 10 minutes from Luton or Farnborough, covering roughly 294 to 327 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 1 hour 15 to 20 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 1 hour 30 to 35 minutes. Germany is one hour ahead of Britain, so a departure at half past eight lands just after half past ten local time.
2How much does a private jet to Dortmund cost?
From about £5,300 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, London City or Luton, and £5,500 from Farnborough. A Phenom 300E from the south and Midlands runs £5,900 to £6,450, and from Scotland allow £9,250 to £9,700. Football evenings, the large trade fairs and the Christmas market weekends price above these figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use for Dortmund?
Dortmund Airport (DTM / EDLW) for most trips. It is about 10 km east of the centre, has a separate general aviation terminal with customs, and has a 2,000 m runway. Scheduled departures run until 22:00, so for a later departure or a large jet use Düsseldorf (DUS / EDDL), about 65 km away, or Cologne Bonn (CGN / EDDK).
4Can a private jet leave Dortmund late in the evening?
Only in limited cases. Scheduled departures run until 22:00 and landings until 23:00, with a capped number of delayed movements allowed to 23:30 each month. After an evening match or dinner we either ask the airport in writing for an exception or move the departure to Düsseldorf or Cologne, which take late movements. The choice is made when the quote is built.
5When should I book a private jet to Dortmund?
Outside the peaks a day or two is usually enough. For the winter hunting fair, the autumn finance and trade fairs and the Christmas market weekends, allow four to six weeks. Hotels and cars get tight in the same days, and a late booking tends to pay more for an aircraft positioned from another airport.
6Can I take my dog to Dortmund on a private jet?
Yes. With the operator's agreement the dog travels in the cabin with you. It needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old and an animal health certificate that is valid for ten days for entry into the EU. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 hours and five days before arrival. Cats do not need the treatment.
