Private jet charter to Gstaad
Gstaad has its own airfield three kilometres from the village, and a charter flight cannot use it. That single fact shapes every booking to this resort, and this page explains it properly before it quotes anything: where the aircraft actually lands, what the last leg costs, and why the helicopter is not a luxury here but the practical answer. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The aircraft we quote for the Bernese Oberland sit at the London fields and across northern Europe, and in the ski season a good number are already working the Alpine circuit.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter towards Gstaad depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Every price on this page is indicative and put together the way a real quote is: a named aircraft on a named sector, the passenger count shown. The tables below give current levels, and a personal calculation takes our consultant about 20 minutes through any form here.
How long does it take to fly to Gstaad?
An hour and twenty-three minutes from Luton to Bern, and an hour and seventeen from Biggin Hill to Geneva. From Birmingham allow an hour and twenty-six, from Manchester an hour and a half, and from Edinburgh an hour and forty-six. Then add the last leg: fourteen minutes by helicopter from Bern, or an hour and a quarter by road, which is the part of this journey that decides how the day feels.

Two things that move the price on this route
– The ski season. From Christmas to the end of February the whole Alpine circuit is working, and Gstaad sits in the middle of the busiest fortnight of it. Aircraft, handling slots and helicopters go together in that window, and the party that commits first gets them;
– The Bern advantage. Bern is closer to Gstaad than Geneva and considerably quieter, which usually makes it both cheaper and faster despite looking like the smaller airport. In the shoulder weeks the Alpine traffic leaves aircraft positioned all over Switzerland, so ask us to check the empty legs first.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database holds over 6500 business jets. The jet leg here is short and the classes below all fly it easily, so the choice is about the size of the party and the quantity of ski equipment rather than about range:
Turboprops
The one class that can legitimately reach Saanen, and then only on a privately operated flight rather than a charter. On the valley sectors from Britain they are workable but slow.
Light jets
What most of this route flies on. Bern is an hour and twenty from the London fields and a Citation M2 covers it comfortably, which keeps the jet leg among the cheapest Alpine sectors we sell.
Super-midsize
The default from the Midlands and the North, and what ski parties book anywhere because the hold takes boards and boot bags without a conversation.
Heavy jets
What Scotland needs with a full cabin, and what a chalet party of a dozen books from anywhere. Range is not the reason on a ninety minute sector; seats and hold space are.
Ultra-long range
Seen at Bern and Geneva all winter on inbound legs from the Gulf and North America, where the owners arrive directly for a fortnight rather than connecting through London.

This is only a part of what is available. The aircraft on your contract is chosen for the sector and the date, and between January and March we look first at what is already working the Alpine circuit.

Business aviation airports in Gstaad
Gstaad has an airfield of its own at Saanen, three kilometres from the village, and it is the reason this page needs a longer explanation than most. The runway is 1,400 metres with displaced thresholds that leave about a thousand usable, the field is uncontrolled, and it can only be flown under visual rules in daylight. Pilots need a specific briefing and a permit for each movement.
The point that decides your booking
A commercially chartered jet cannot use Saanen. The rules that govern paid charter flights are stricter than those for a privately owned aircraft on the same runway, and this airfield falls the wrong side of them: in winter the runway condition keeps jets off it altogether, and in summer only twin-engine turboprops qualify. If you have seen jets on that apron, they belonged to their occupants. A helicopter, by contrast, is not restricted in the same way, which is why the last leg into Gstaad is almost always rotary.
1,400 m runway, VFR and daylight only, permit for every movement, no chartered jets3 km to the village
the default for this route, quieter than Geneva and closer to the valley51 km, the closest international
closer on paper, but the road crosses a mountain pass and the drive is no shorter29 km in a straight line
the busiest option and the one most people assume, though Bern usually beats it94 km
Bern Belp is the answer for the great majority of bookings. It handles business traffic properly, it sits an hour and a quarter from Gstaad by road and fourteen minutes by helicopter, and it does not have Geneva’s February congestion. Sion looks closer on a map and is not: the direct line crosses the Col du Pillon, and the road around it takes as long as the run from Bern. Geneva earns its place when the party is arriving on a scheduled connection or when the aircraft is continuing somewhere that suits it better.
How the last leg actually works
– By helicopter from Bern, fourteen minutes, landing at Saanen or at an authorised site closer to the chalet. This is what most of our clients do and what the season is built around;
– By road from Bern, an hour and a quarter in good conditions and longer when the passes are working hard;
– By helicopter from Geneva, twenty-six minutes, which suits parties arriving there for other reasons;
– Rotary movements at Saanen run to published hours: in winter from 08:00 to 20:00 for helicopters, and only to civil twilight for aeroplanes.

Flying to Gstaad with a dog or a cat
Switzerland is outside the European Union but inside the pet travel arrangement, so the paperwork is the familiar set and your own vet will recognise it. What differs here is the last leg: the animal has a helicopter ride ahead of it, and that is worth a moment of thought.
What Switzerland asks for on the way in:
- An ISO 11784/11785 microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination rather than after it;
- A rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before entry, the animal being 12 weeks old or more when it was administered;
- An EU Animal Health Certificate from a UK government-authorised veterinarian, issued within 10 days of arrival and valid for the journey home for up to four months;
- Up to five animals per owner, travelling with the owner as a non-commercial movement;
- Praziquantel from a Swiss vet 24 to 120 hours before landing back in Britain, recorded with the date and the product. Dogs only; cats are exempt.
Three things specific to this route
– The helicopter leg. Rotary cabins are noisier than a jet and the ride into the valley is short but busy, so a nervous animal is better served by the road transfer from Bern. We ask about temperament at the quote stage rather than at the aircraft;
– The worming appointment for the return has to happen in Switzerland inside the 24 to 120 hour window, which rules out a same-day trip with a dog. The practices in Gstaad and Saanen see British clients constantly and we book the slot with the flight;
– Altitude and cold. Gstaad sits at a thousand metres and the January temperatures are what they are, which suits some breeds and not others. The chalets are warm; the walk from the helicopter is not.
Why the resort itself is easy
Gstaad is unusually relaxed about dogs once you arrive. Most of the hotels take them, the Palace included, the winter walking paths through the Saanenland are cleared and used by half the village with a dog attached, and the mountain railways carry animals as a matter of routine. Nothing goes in a hold on the jet leg and no weight limit applies.
Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are set out on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the current position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
Types of flights
Our company provides all types of business flights. Due to a wide variety of jets, we can arrange:
- private flights;
- corporate flights;
- business class flights;
- concert tours;
- medical flights (with doctors and special equipment on board);
- tourist flights for large and small groups;
- sports charters for teams and coaching staff;
- combined flights (partly by business jet, and partly by helicopter);
- exclusive flights on luxury jets for businessmen, celebrities, and politicians;
- cargo flights, etc.
A flexible approach and a wide experience allow us to solve problems of any complexity. In 90% of cases, we manage to arrange urgent flights (on the day of application). But to be sure, we recommend you send a request at least 2-5 days before the desired date of departure.

Empty Legs
Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way (for example, when the passenger flies from England to Gstaad). After the flight, the jet returns to its home base (for example, to London Farnborough airport) empty. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.
It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing
Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.
We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.
Main advantages of this service:
- All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
- You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
- No baggage restrictions;
- Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
- Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.
Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter
On most of our pages the helicopter is an option. Here it is the route. A chartered jet cannot land at Saanen and a helicopter can, which makes the rotary leg the ordinary way to finish this journey rather than an indulgence added to it. These are the legs we arrange most:
an hour and a quarter by road, and the standard last leg on this routeabout 14 minutes
over the Col du Pillon, which the road has to go aroundabout 8 minutes
two hours by road on a February Saturday, sometimes moreabout 26 minutes
two and a half hours by road across the countryabout 40 minutes
the other Valais resorts, three hours or more by road20 to 30 minutes
The machines that work these routes
– Airbus H125, the mountain single that most Alpine operators fly and the type you will see most often on the Saanen apron;
– Airbus H130 for a family or a party of six, wider cabin and the usual choice when ski bags come too;
– Airbus H145 and AgustaWestland AW139 for a larger group or when instrument capability is wanted in marginal weather, which in this valley is worth paying for.
Two points on Alpine rotary legs
– Weather decides more than anything else. These flights run under visual rules in daylight only, and low cloud in the Saanenland closes them at short notice. We book a car alongside rather than instead of the helicopter, and in winter that car costs you an hour and a quarter, not the day;
– Saanen publishes its hours and they are shorter than most people expect: in winter helicopters work from 08:00 to 20:00, and aeroplanes only until civil twilight. A late arrival into Bern may mean the last leg is by road whatever was planned.

Flight payment options

Our consultants will offer you a wide variety of flights to meet your needs and budget. Most customers prefer a non-cash method (a transfer to an EU bank account), which guarantees a high level of confidentiality and security of payment. All payment details are provided in advance, so you’ll have enough time to make the necessary checks. For years of working in business aviation, our company has gained an impeccable reputation. We practice transparency and are always ready to present all necessary documents.

Gstaad charters we have flown: six trips from the booking notes
Written up from our brokers’ own notes. Initials replace names, and details are altered where a client would otherwise be identifiable. The prices are what those bookings cost and the flight times match the tables above.
SKI · FEBRUARY HALF TERM
The R. family: six of them and a chalet above the village
London Luton - Bern, Citation M2, 1 h 23 min · 6 passengers
Booked in September for February, which on this fortnight is normal rather than early. Wheels up at eight, on the ground at Bern before eleven Swiss time, and at the chalet twenty minutes later after a fourteen minute helicopter leg. About 3,800 GBP for the jet with the rotary leg quoted separately.
THE SAANEN QUESTION
Mr P. D.: the answer he did not expect
London Biggin Hill - Bern, Citation M2, 1 h 21 min · 4 passengers
He had seen jets on the apron at Saanen and asked to be flown there directly. We explained why a chartered aircraft cannot use it and he flew into Bern instead. The helicopter put him in the village fourteen minutes later, which was quicker than the drive he had been expecting from Geneva in any case.
WEATHER · THE CAR THAT WAS BOOKED ANYWAY
A party of eight: cloud in the Saanenland
Manchester - Bern, Citation XLS+, 1 h 33 min · 8 passengers
The jet landed on time and the helicopter did not fly: the cloud sat in the valley all afternoon. Because the cars had been booked alongside at the quote stage they left Bern forty minutes after landing and were in Gstaad for dinner. In this valley we quote both as a matter of routine.
SUMMER · THE TENNIS
A corporate group: the Swiss Open week
Birmingham - Bern, Citation XLS+, 1 h 26 min · 7 passengers
Gstaad is not only a winter resort, and the July tennis fills the valley as thoroughly as February does. Booked six weeks out. Around 5,400 GBP each way. The road from Bern was slow that weekend, which is exactly when the fourteen minute helicopter leg pays for itself.
PET · THE CAR RATHER THAN THE HELICOPTER
Mrs H. K.: a nervous terrier and a sensible decision
London Luton - Bern, Citation M2, 1 h 23 min · 2 passengers and a dog
She asked about the helicopter and we suggested the road instead, because a rotary cabin is loud and the drive from Bern is only an hour and a quarter. The dog slept in the car. The worming appointment for the journey home was booked in Saanen at the same time as the flight.
ALPINE CIRCUIT · TWO RESORTS
Mr A. V.: Gstaad first, then Verbier
London Luton - Bern, Citation M2, 1 h 23 min · 5 passengers
Four nights at Gstaad, then twenty-five minutes by helicopter across to Verbier rather than three hours on winter roads, and home from Sion at the end of it. Splitting a trip across two valleys costs less than people assume when the aircraft is already in Switzerland.
Gstaad as a destination
Gstaad is a village of about three thousand people in the Bernese Oberland that has spent a century being extremely discreet about how much money passes through it. The main street is closed to cars, the chalets are built to a code that keeps them looking like farmhouses, and the rule that no building may exceed a certain height has held since before the war. Nothing here announces itself, which is precisely the point.
The skiing spreads across the Saanenland and into the Pays-d’Enhaut next door, with two hundred kilometres of piste linked by lift and bus, and the glacier at Les Diablerets above it for the early and late season. It is not Verbier and does not try to be: the terrain suits intermediates and families rather than people looking for couloirs, and a good share of the visitors ski very little and come for the village.
The summer half of the year is quietly serious. The Swiss Open tennis has been played here since 1915 on clay courts in the middle of the valley, the Menuhin Festival brings chamber music through July and August, and the walking is among the best in Switzerland. July and August fill the hotels as thoroughly as February does, which surprises people who think of this only as a ski resort.
Where to stay
- Gstaad Palace. The castle-like building on the hill that has defined the village since 1913, still owned by the same family, and the address that most first-time visitors mean when they say Gstaad;
- The Alpina Gstaad. The newest of the grand hotels and arguably the best, built in traditional timber at enormous expense and with a Six Senses spa underneath it;
- Le Grand Bellevue. In the village itself rather than above it, smaller and more relaxed than the other two, with a spa that people book the hotel for;
- Ultima Gstaad. Suites and chalets with private staff, for parties who want a hotel that behaves like a house;
- Hotel Olden. On the promenade, a fraction of the size and price of the others, and where the village itself drinks;
- A rented chalet, which is what a good share of the arrivals on this page are doing, and where the helicopter transfer earns its cost twice over.
What to do
- Ski the Saanenland. Wispile, Eggli and Rougemont above the village, Saanenmoser and Schonried for the longer runs, and the whole area covered by one pass;
- Glacier 3000 at Les Diablerets. The suspension bridge between two peaks, skiing into May, and half an hour from the village;
- Walk the promenade. Closed to traffic, lined with the jewellers and galleries that pay the village rent, and unhurried in a way that Verbier is not;
- Eat on the mountain. The huts here are proper restaurants rather than canteens, and lunch at one of them is the point of the ski day for a good many visitors;
- The Swiss Open in July, one of the oldest clay court tournaments in the world, played in a stadium in the middle of a meadow;
- The Menuhin Festival, chamber music in the churches of the valley through the summer, founded by the violinist who lived here.
When the valley is busy
- Christmas and New Year, when the chalets fill and the helicopter slots go first;
- February half term, the single busiest fortnight of the year on this route;
- The Swiss Open week in July, which fills the valley as completely as any winter week;
- The Menuhin Festival through late July and August, spread over several weeks rather than concentrated;
- May, June, October and November, when the lifts are largely shut, the village is quiet and this becomes an inexpensive sector to fly.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Gstaad
1Can a private jet land at Gstaad itself?
Not a chartered one. Gstaad-Saanen has a 1,400 metre runway with displaced thresholds, is uncontrolled, and can only be used under visual rules in daylight. The regulations for paid charter flights are stricter than those for a privately owned aircraft, and this runway falls the wrong side of them: in winter its condition keeps jets off entirely, and in summer only twin-engine turboprops qualify commercially. Helicopters are not restricted in the same way.
2Where do flights actually land?
Bern for the great majority, at fifty-one kilometres and fourteen minutes by helicopter. Geneva is ninety-four kilometres and busier, particularly in February. Sion looks closer at twenty-nine kilometres but the road has to cross a mountain pass, so the drive is no shorter than from Bern. We quote Bern first unless something in your itinerary argues otherwise.
3How long is a private jet flight from London?
An hour and twenty-three minutes from Luton to Bern on a Citation M2, and an hour and seventeen from Biggin Hill to Geneva. From Birmingham allow an hour and twenty-six, from Manchester an hour and a half, and from Edinburgh an hour and forty-six. Then add fourteen minutes by helicopter or an hour and a quarter by road.
4How much does it cost?
From about 3,600 GBP one way from Biggin Hill to Bern on a Citation M2, 3,700 GBP to Geneva and 3,800 GBP from Luton, rising to around 5,800 GBP from Manchester and 9,600 GBP from Newcastle on a Challenger. Each figure buys the whole aircraft and covers the jet leg only; the helicopter transfer is quoted separately.
5What happens if the helicopter cannot fly?
You drive, and it costs you an hour and a quarter rather than a day. Alpine rotary legs run under visual rules in daylight and low cloud in the Saanenland closes them at short notice, so we book a car alongside rather than instead of the helicopter on every winter booking. The road from Bern takes an hour and a quarter in reasonable conditions.
