Private jet charter in Blackpool
A charter from London to Blackpool takes about 45 minutes, and the runway it lands on is a short drive from the Tower, which is rarer than it sounds for a seaside resort. Private Jets UK arranges the flight around whatever brings the party here: the Illuminations, a competition on the Winter Gardens dance floor, a round at Royal Lytham, the Lakes up the motorway or a house in the Ribble Valley. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Blackpool Airport has a 1,868 m runway, one dedicated handler and needs prior permission but no slot, while Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds Bradford are the alternatives when the aircraft is large or the programme lies inland. From elsewhere in Britain the flight is domestic from start to finish, with no border to cross.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Blackpool depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Blackpool?
About 45 minutes from Luton or Farnborough in a light jet, 50 minutes from London City or Biggin Hill, and no change of clock from anywhere in Britain. At 93 to 192 nautical miles these are short sectors, the kind where the climb and the descent take a large share of the flight and where the price meets a minimum charge before the distance counts. The table gives the sector from each British field into Blackpool Airport (BLK). Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds Bradford are left out on purpose: they lie 38, 28 and 51 nautical miles away, and no charter makes sense over a distance a car covers in an hour or so.

Door to door, and what the train takes from you
Blackpool Airport lies at Squires Gate, about three miles south of the town centre and a few minutes from the M55. The air distance from the London fields is 155 to 192 nautical miles. A train from Euston takes close to three hours, with a change or without one, and it ends at Blackpool North. The jet is worth its fee when the party is four to eight people, when the day starts at Biggin Hill, Farnborough or Luton and not at a station, and when it goes on to Lytham, the Ribble Valley or the Lakes, none of which a platform serves. For a single traveller bound for a conference at the Winter Gardens, the train is a fair rival.
Turboprop or light jet: the question on a British sector
– From the Midlands, Wales, the north, Scotland and Belfast, the Pilatus PC-12 is the aircraft to ask for. It prices at £3,100 one way, where a Citation CJ3+ costs £5,300, and the difference in the air is five or ten minutes. Eight people with ordinary bags fit it comfortably;
– Out of London the gap is wider. A PC-12 from Biggin Hill needs about 1 h 05 min against about 50 min in the CJ3+, and the saving is £2,200. The jet earns its fee when Blackpool is one stop in a day, or when the aircraft carries straight on to the Continent;
– A midsize or super-midsize cabin is for a full party with luggage, and the 1,868 m runway takes these types. Gulfstream and Global class aircraft are longer and need fire cover above category 5, which is requested from the airport in advance. We run that check before a large cabin is quoted.

Prices for the private jet flights to Blackpool
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Blackpool Airport. The Illuminations weekends, the Dance Festival and the Air Show can price above these figures, and the calendar block further down says when.

| Southampton - Blackpool 187 nm |
Cessna Citation CJ3+ | 6 | from £5,300 |

Cessna Citation CJ3+ | 6 | from £5,300 |
Every figure in the table is one of two numbers: £3,100 for the turboprop and £5,300 for the light jet. That is not rounding. A one-way charter is billed with the aircraft's return positioning, and on sectors this short a minimum charge replaces the distance calculation, so Birmingham at 95 nautical miles and Biggin Hill at 192 cost the same in the same aircraft. In practice the departure field should be chosen by the drive to the aircraft and not by the price. The nearest field is the cheapest in effect.

Out of Blackpool: three kinds of trip
The first is the hop. The Isle of Man is 62 nautical miles away and Dublin 122, both turboprop work of about 35 minutes and 50 minutes. The scheduled link to the island ended with the collapse of its operator, and the airport's owner later ruled out a restart, so a private aircraft is the direct way to fly it. Ireland, Jersey and the Isle of Man belong to the Common Travel Area, but the flight is still international for paperwork and needs a General Aviation Report. The second is the European business sector: Amsterdam in about 1 h 05 min, Paris Le Bourget in about 1 h 10 min and Geneva in about 1 h 45 min. The third is the long haul, and Blackpool is not where we start it. A Gulf or transatlantic sector in a large cabin is planned from Manchester, 38 nautical miles to the south-east, which has two runways of more than 3,000 m and a published night period, while Blackpool keeps to the types its runway and fire cover suit. We price both before quoting.
Before you accept an onward quote
– Which hours the airfield keeps. Blackpool publishes 07:00 to 20:00 local time, and anything outside it is by advance agreement. A Sunday-evening departure after the Illuminations needs that agreement, or an earlier take-off, written into the quote;
– Whether it is one booking. Blackpool to Geneva and home three days later costs less as a single trip, with the aircraft waiting or positioned nearby, than as two one-way charters each flown in from elsewhere;
– Whether the aircraft can fly the sector. A quote that names the type is a quote you can compare, which is why we name it every time, so that a small jet is never priced against a large one.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Blackpool:
Light jets, the usual choice from London
At 45 to 50 minutes in the air this is the class for four to six people with ordinary luggage. A 1,868 m runway is ample for every one of these, so the money goes on the cabin and not on capability you will not use.
Midsize, for a party with its luggage
Dance festival entrants arrive with costume cases and a golf weekend with bags and trolleys, and either fills a hold faster than it fills the seats. A midsize cabin keeps the party together and takes the luggage as well.
Super-midsize and large, with a check
Super-midsize jets are covered by the category 5 that the airport accepts under remission. Gulfstream class aircraft are longer and need a higher category, requested from the airport in advance with a surcharge possible, which we arrange before the quote is sent. A fit for a delegation that works in the air or a trip that continues south.
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the Midlands, the north of England, Wales, Scotland and Belfast, and for the hops to Dublin and the Isle of Man. The quote sits at the minimum charge on every one of these sectors.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a links course on the Fylde coast, a country house in the Ribble Valley, a lake in Cumbria. Where a helicopter may land is agreed before the quote, not after it.

This is a small part of what is available. Blackpool is a short sector from Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, and outside the busiest weekends there is usually an aircraft already within reach, so a quote may name one of those cities as the positioning point. That is normal and often where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports around Blackpool
One airfield does the work, and three others matter when the aircraft is large or the programme lies inland. Each is described below with the handler, the hours and the kind of trip it suits.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Blackpool Airport BLK / EGNH |
The airport for the Promenade, the Fylde coast and Lytham, at Squires Gate on the southern edge of the resort. Two asphalt runways: 10/28 of 1,868 m, with an ILS and other instrument approaches to runway 28, and 13/31 of 998 m, which is unlit. The airport publishes opening hours of 07:00 to 20:00 local time, requires prior permission for every booking, has no slot coordination and no de-icing, and keeps fire cover at category 4 with category 5 accepted under remission and higher categories on request at a surcharge. Hangar 3 Blackpool is the dedicated business aviation handler, with a VIP lounge, crew rest room, meeting room, catering and a refurbished hangar of more than 12,000 square feet; fuel is Jet A1 and Avgas, and the airfield is listed as an airport of entry with customs on prior notice. The same airfield is the base for offshore helicopter flights to the Irish Sea platforms |
| Manchester MAN / EGCC |
The alternative when the aircraft is large, the departure is long-haul or the party is bound for the east of the region. About 38 nautical miles to the south-east, with two parallel runways of more than 3,000 m and customs and immigration on site. Private aircraft use Signature Aviation, whose Business Aviation Centre in Hangar 7 publishes hours of 06:00 to 22:00 with call-out on request, or Weston Aviation at the aether private terminal. Every flight needs a slot, and the night period runs from 23:00 to 07:00. The road to the Fylde coast adds a drive of roughly an hour or a little more |
| Liverpool John Lennon LPL / EGGP |
The round-the-clock option, 28 nautical miles to the south. A single runway of 2,286 m, customs and immigration listed as available at all hours, and two private handlers, XLR Executive Jet Centre and Ravenair. It fits an aircraft too heavy for Blackpool, or an arrival after 20:00 when Blackpool has closed, and it is a poor choice for the Promenade because the drive is longer than from Blackpool |
| Leeds Bradford LBA / EGNM |
The Yorkshire gateway, 51 nautical miles to the east over the Pennines, with a 2,250 m runway and Multiflight as the sole business aviation handler, listed from 08:00 to 18:00. Worth knowing for a party split between Yorkshire and the Fylde coast, or when Blackpool is closed or full; for the Promenade itself it is a longer journey than Blackpool or Manchester |
Warton is next door, and it is not an option
BAE Systems' Warton aerodrome lies about 5 nautical miles to the east-south-east of Blackpool, with a single runway of 2,422 m, seven miles west of Preston. It is a manufacturer's site and is not open to the public, so no charter lands there. Blackpool's own airport page warns crews that the two fields have a similar runway layout and that the wrong one has been mistaken for the right one on a visual approach.
Four points settle most Blackpool arrivals:
Prior permission, always
Every booking at Blackpool is prior permission required, and handling is listed as mandatory. We ask Hangar 3 Blackpool for the permission, give the crew the handler by name and keep the confirmation with the quote. There is no slot to win, but visiting pilots describe the parking as limited, and a busy weekend can fill it.
Hours and the runway
The airport publishes 07:00 to 20:00 local time and agrees anything outside them in advance, so we plan the last departure of the day with a margin. There is no de-icing on the field. The longer runway is 1,868 m and the shorter one is unlit, so a night arrival uses 10/28 only.
Border and passport
Flights from elsewhere in Britain have no border control at all. An arrival from abroad, Ireland and the Isle of Man included, needs a General Aviation Report, and customs at Blackpool is listed on prior notice. Where cover for the date is not confirmed we land at Manchester and drive, and a non-British, non-Irish visitor who needs no visa holds an Electronic Travel Authorisation before boarding.
Car and the ramp
Hangar 3 meets passengers on the ramp and lists a shuttle to local hotels, and the ride into Blackpool is listed at about 10 minutes. Preston is 25 to 30 minutes by road and Manchester 55 to 65, according to the listing. For an Illuminations weekend or the Air Show, put the late car in the quote from the start.

Border, passport and the Common Travel Area
A flight that starts and ends in Britain needs no border formalities, and this is much of the case for Blackpool when the client is coming from London, Birmingham or Glasgow. The paperwork begins with anything that touches another country, and that includes Ireland, Jersey and the Isle of Man: the government's online service for General Aviation Reports covers international flights to and from the United Kingdom, the Common Travel Area included, and domestic flights are excluded. The report is filed between 48 and 2 hours before departure, and the penalty is £2,500 for a first landing at a non-regulated aerodrome and £2,000 for each passenger carried without permission.
Blackpool is listed as an airport of entry, but customs is on prior notice and within the hours of the airfield only, and a small field has a small customs team. For an arrival from the Isle of Man, Dublin or the Continent we confirm in writing that Border Force will attend on the date and at the hour, and if it will not, the aircraft lands at Manchester or Liverpool instead. British and Irish passport holders need no Electronic Travel Authorisation, and most other visitors who do not need a visa must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation before they board. Leaving Blackpool for the Schengen area is a different matter, because a British passport holder meets EU border checks on arrival. Give us the nationalities in the party when you ask for a quote.

From the apron to the Promenade, Lytham and the Lakes
Blackpool draws about 20 million visits a year into a strip of coast. The Tower stands 158 m high, the Golden Mile of promenade between the two piers runs 1.6 miles, the tramway carries passengers 11 miles from Starr Gate to Fleetwood, and most of the places a private party wants lie within a mile or two of the front. The distances that matter run outward, to the golf, the Ribble Valley and the lakes.

Empress Ballroom, Opera House seating 2,813, a conference centre and exhibition hall under one roofin the town centre
the rival the jet is measured against, with a change or without oneclose to 3 hours
The attractions are in the middle of town and are better seen than explained. The Tower Ballroom has staged the grand finals of two series of Strictly Come Dancing, and the Tower itself is Grade I listed. The Pleasure Beach, a 42-acre park, runs from spring to November, and its Big One, 213 ft high, was the tallest roller coaster in the world when it opened. The Winter Gardens, listed Grade II*, is where the dance festival, the darts and the conferences are held, and it has hosted the trade union congress and the main party conferences in its time. A party staying two nights rarely needs more than the tram and a short taxi.
The Fylde coast runs south. Lytham St Annes, a built-up area of about 43,000 people, lies directly south of Blackpool along the A584 and has Lytham Green on the Ribble estuary, a restored windmill, Lytham Hall and four golf courses, including Royal Lytham & St Annes, which has hosted the Open Championship eleven times. It is about 3 nautical miles from the airfield, which makes Blackpool the natural airport for a golf party and Manchester a poor one.
The Ribble Valley lies inland, about 24 nautical miles to the east. Clitheroe, its largest town, has a castle as its landmark, and much of the district is in the Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with Stonyhurst College and the Pendle witch country close by. Clitheroe holds a food festival in early August with more than 80 Lancashire producers. A helicopter takes about 20 minutes, and the road takes a good deal longer.
The Lake District is the longest transfer. Windermere, the largest lake in England at about 11 miles from end to end, is 37 nautical miles from Blackpool in a straight line, which is about 25 minutes by helicopter. By road, Kendal is about an hour from the airfield. Bowness-on-Windermere is the main town on the shore, and a party bound for the lakes can land at Blackpool or at Manchester; the sensible choice is the one with the shortest transfer on the day, and for much of the southern lakes Blackpool is usually the shorter drive.
Flying to Blackpool with a dog or a cat
A pet on a flight from an English, Welsh or Scottish airfield to Blackpool sits in the cabin beside the owner, and nothing has to be declared, because the flight never leaves Great Britain. The one requirement is the microchip that British law already demands for a dog. Paperwork begins only when the flight starts or finishes abroad.

What each type of Blackpool flight asks of the animal:
- From England, Wales or Scotland: nothing beyond the microchip and the usual documents for the operator;
- From Northern Ireland: a dog or cat coming back to Great Britain is not checked on the way, and a dog needs no tapeworm treatment on the return from Northern Ireland. In the other direction, an animal going from Great Britain to Northern Ireland needs a separate document and notification;
- From abroad into Blackpool: a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival, a pet travel document and a declaration are required, and no more than five animals may travel with one person. Cats do not need the tapeworm treatment;
- To the Isle of Man or Ireland: each sets its own rules for animals arriving from Great Britain, and Ireland adds a tapeworm treatment for dogs on the way in. We confirm the requirements for the destination in writing with the first quote;
- From Blackpool to the EU: a microchip fitted before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination, a rabies vaccination from 12 weeks of age followed by a 21-day wait, and an Animal Health Certificate for each trip, valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A Great Britain pet passport is not valid for entry to the EU.
What catches owners out on the Blackpool run
– The country the animal is going to. Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland, Malta and Norway add a tapeworm treatment for dogs on the way in, and Northern Ireland has a separate notice and document for animals arriving from Great Britain. We raise it with the first quote;
– The return flight. A dog coming home direct to Great Britain from Finland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Malta or Norway needs no tapeworm treatment, but from any other country it does, and the certificate carries its own validity for the return, so read the dates on the paper before the trip and not after it;
– Quarantine. If the rules are not met on arrival in Great Britain, an animal can be held in quarantine for up to four months, and rules for countries outside the listed group are stricter and need a blood test.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.
The Blackpool calendar: lights, ballroom, darts and golf
Blackpool has a long season and a few sharp peaks. The ballroom belongs to May, darts and golf to July, the air show to a weekend in August, and the lights to the autumn. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why the busy weekends cost more
Aircraft are not the scarce item. Parking and hours are. Blackpool has one dedicated handler, parking that visiting pilots call limited and an airfield that closes at 20:00, so on the Saturday of the Air Show or the opening weekend of the Illuminations every party wants the same Sunday-afternoon departure. A request made a fortnight ahead can usually still be met, at a higher price and sometimes by a departure from Manchester. The same trip booked six weeks out is simpler and cheaper. On an ordinary Tuesday in March, by contrast, Blackpool can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Blackpool price down
- Use the turboprop from the Midlands, the north, Wales, Scotland and Belfast. Up to about 200 nautical miles the PC-12 is £3,100 and a light jet £5,300, and eight people do not need a bigger cabin;
- Pick the departure field by the drive. Birmingham at 95 nautical miles and Glasgow at 141 cost the same, so the nearest one is the cheapest in effect;
- Ask where the aircraft sleeps. One already based in Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham needs less positioning than one coming up from the south coast, and positioning is a big share of a short sector;
- Move the date if it can move. A midweek day in March costs less than the Saturday of the Air Show, and a weekend in the middle of the Illuminations costs less than its first one.
Types of flights
Blackpool mixes things that other British cities keep apart: a seaside resort, a ballroom, a conference venue, a golf coast and the gateway to the Lakes.
- Business and professional travel from London and the south, with a same-day return as the usual shape, and conferences and trade shows at the Winter Gardens;
- Competitors, teachers and guests for the Dance Festival and other ballroom events, flown in with their cases and often out again on the closing night;
- Golf parties for Royal Lytham & St Annes and the courses along the Fylde coast, especially in Open week, often with a helicopter booked for the last stretch;
- Weekends at the Illuminations, the Air Show and the Pleasure Beach, for families and groups who would rather not spend a day on the M6;
- Clients bound for the Ribble Valley, the Forest of Bowland and the Lake District, who want the shortest road at the end of the flight;
- Short hops to the Isle of Man and Ireland, where the scheduled service from Blackpool has ended.
The London day return is the one to look at closely. Leave Biggin Hill at seven, land at Blackpool a little before eight and be in the meeting by nine. The aircraft and crew wait at the handler, which is a real line in the quote, though it usually still beats two separate one-way charters because the aircraft is not flown home empty and then fetched again. At about 50 minutes each way it leaves most of the working day free, and the airfield is open until 20:00, so the evening is not at risk.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Blackpool has seasonal peaks that create them, and it helps to know what produces them.
Where Blackpool empty legs come from
– Festival weekends. An aircraft that has brought a party to the Dance Festival, to the Air Show or to the opening of the Illuminations goes home empty late that night or the next morning, and that leg is the one most often offered;
– London weekends. Aircraft based in the north-west fly south for a client on a Friday and come back on Sunday evening or Monday morning, which produces a northbound leg and a southbound one in the same week;
– Golf and the Lakes. A group dropped at Blackpool for a long weekend sends the aircraft away empty, and the short onward leg back to Manchester or the Midlands can be the cheapest seat on the market.
Blackpool is a regional base and not a hub on the scale of London, so a client who offers a three-day window is far likelier to find a leg than one who needs a given Friday. The operator, not the passenger, fixes the hour, and a leg can disappear if the booking behind it changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Blackpool leg the day an operator releases it.

In Blackpool a helicopter is a tool for the last stretch and not for the resort. The airfield is ten minutes from the front, and the places where rotary flight changes the journey are the golf coast, the country houses of the Ribble Valley and the lakes, where the roads are slow. The airfield itself is a helicopter base: offshore crews fly twin AW169 machines from here to the Irish Sea platforms, and an air ambulance is stationed on the field. Hangar 3 lists transfers to Manchester, the Lake District and other points of interest in the north-west among its services, and we book the helicopter alongside the jet so both crews work to one timetable.
3 nautical miles south-east, to the Royal Lytham links and the townabout 10 minutes
9 nautical miles south to the Southport links, across the Ribble estuary, with the landing site agreed in advanceabout 10 minutes
24 nautical miles east-north-east, into the Ribble Valley and under the Forest of Bowlandabout 20 minutes
37 nautical miles north-north-east to the lake, a day trip and not a transferabout 25 minutes
38 nautical miles south-east, where a large aircraft may be waitingabout 25 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– Weekend slots go first. On the Air Show Saturday the airspace over the Promenade is managed for the display, and a helicopter has to be booked together with the jet. Left late, it is usually the first thing that is not available;
– A lawn is not a helipad. A golf club, a hotel garden or a private estate needs a suitable site and the owner's agreement, and we settle that before quoting and not after;
– Weather sets the day. Low cloud over the Pennines and the Lakes can stop a helicopter on a morning when the jet lands without trouble, so every trip has a road alternative in the same plan.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for single-engine transfers, the H130 for scenic work, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. Times above are straight-line figures at a typical cruise of about 130 knots, with a few minutes added for start-up and landing.

Blackpool charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · THE CONFERENCE
A morning session at the Winter Gardens and home for dinner
London Luton - Blackpool and return, Citation CJ3+, about 45 min each way · 4 pax
Out of Luton at a quarter to seven, on the ground at Blackpool at about half past seven and at the Winter Gardens well before the opening session. The crew stayed with the aircraft at the handler, and the party was back in the air before the airfield closed. The train would have taken three hours each way.
DANCE FESTIVAL · A WEEK IN MAY
Two couples, their coach and eight cases
Birmingham - Blackpool, Pilatus PC-12, about 40 min · 5 pax
The turboprop carried the couples, the coach and the costume cases for the minimum charge, which is a good deal less than a jet. A car met them at the handler and took them to the Winter Gardens, and the aircraft went home empty, so the leg came up on the empty legs list the next morning.
ILLUMINATIONS · THE WEEKEND
Six friends for the lights and a late dinner
Farnborough - Blackpool, Citation CJ3+, about 45 min · 6 pax
The only constraint was the hour. The return was set for Sunday afternoon with a margin, because the airfield closes at 20:00 and an out-of-hours departure has to be agreed in advance. The party had two evenings on the front and a table booked at the Tower.
GOLF · ROYAL LYTHAM
A foursome, a driver and four sets of clubs
Biggin Hill - Blackpool and return, Phenom 300E, about 45 min each way · 4 pax
The airfield is a short drive from the club, so the car was short and the clubs rode in the hold, not on the roof. The aircraft waited on the ground for the day and flew the party home in the evening, which still cost less than two separate one-way charters.
LAKES · BY HELICOPTER
From the Blackpool ramp to the water at Windermere
London Luton - Blackpool, Citation CJ3+, about 45 min · 3 pax, then helicopter about 25 min
The jet landed in the morning and a twin helicopter was waiting beside the handler, so the party reached the lake before lunch, which the road from the south would not have allowed. The landing site had been agreed with the owner before the quote was sent, and a car stood by in case the cloud came down.
ISLES · THE SHORT HOP
A Sunday flight to the Isle of Man
Blackpool - Isle of Man, Pilatus PC-12, about 35 min · 6 pax
The scheduled service on this route had ended, so the family chartered the turboprop. The General Aviation Report was filed two days ahead and the handler confirmed customs on arrival. The family was in Douglas in time for lunch.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Blackpool
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Blackpool?
About 45 minutes from Luton or Farnborough and about 50 minutes from London City or Biggin Hill in a light jet, covering 155 to 192 nautical miles. From Birmingham a turboprop takes about 40 minutes, from Edinburgh about 50 minutes. There is no change of clock, and the train from London takes close to three hours.
2How much does a private jet to Blackpool cost?
From £3,100 one way in a Pilatus PC-12 from the Midlands, Wales, the north of England, Newcastle, Scotland or Belfast, and from £5,300 in a Citation CJ3+ from the London fields or Southampton. Every British sector under about 200 nautical miles falls on the minimum charge. The Dance Festival, the Air Show and the opening weekend of the Illuminations can price above these figures.
3Which airport should I use for Blackpool, Lytham and the Lakes?
Blackpool Airport (BLK / EGNH) for the Promenade, Lytham and the Fylde coast, and usually for the southern Lakes as well. It has a 1,868 m runway and one dedicated handler, Hangar 3 Blackpool. Manchester (EGCC) is the alternative for a large aircraft, a departure after 20:00 or a party bound for the east, Liverpool John Lennon (EGGP) opens round the clock, and Leeds Bradford (EGNM) is the Yorkshire alternative.
4Can a private jet land at Blackpool Airport, and when is it open?
Yes. Blackpool takes business jets and publishes opening hours of 07:00 to 20:00 local time, with anything outside them agreed in advance. Every booking needs prior permission, there is no slot coordination and no de-icing on the field, and fire cover is category 4 with higher categories on request at a surcharge. We check the aircraft against the 1,868 m runway and the fire category before quoting.
5Do I need a passport or customs clearance to fly to Blackpool?
Not from elsewhere in the United Kingdom. A flight from anywhere in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland is domestic, with no passport control, no customs and no General Aviation Report. Handlers still ask for names, and we advise carrying photo identification. An arrival from abroad, the Isle of Man and Ireland included, needs a report filed between 48 and 2 hours before departure, and we confirm customs cover with the handler for the date.
6Can I take my dog to Blackpool on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you. Within Great Britain no import paperwork is needed. From abroad a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival, a pet travel document and a declaration, and no more than five animals may travel with one person. Going from Blackpool to the EU needs an Animal Health Certificate for each trip.
