Private jet charter in Tanzania
Tanzania sits well down the African map, about ten hours from the south-east of England with one stop and a little under nine in a large-cabin jet that flies it nonstop. That puts two questions in front of every client before price: which airport suits the plan, and which aircraft can reach it. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. For Tanzania that means a flight clearance requested from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, a handler booked at Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam before the aircraft leaves Britain, an insurance and visa checklist for every passenger, and, for a safari, a turboprop waiting on the apron when the jet arrives.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Tanzania depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Praetor 600 flying to Kilimanjaro International with one technical stop in Cairo, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Tanzania?
Tanzania keeps East Africa Time, three hours ahead of Greenwich throughout the year, and the country has no daylight saving. The gap with Britain is three hours in winter and two in summer. A Praetor 600 leaving Biggin Hill at eight in the evening, London time, refuels at Cairo during the night and lands at Kilimanjaro at about nine in the morning, local time, in winter. Most clients prefer that pattern to an arrival after dark. These are the sectors to Kilimanjaro, gate to gate and including the hour on the ground in Cairo, from the airfields our clients use most:
4,084 nautical miles via Cairo, the closest of the London fields to Tanzania, and the base for the price quoted at the top of the pageabout 10 h 05 min
4,110 nautical miles via Cairo, the usual field for Surrey, Hampshire and the Thames Valleyabout 10 h 10 min
4,115 nautical miles via Cairo, the choice for north London, Hertfordshire and the Midlandsabout 10 h 10 min
4,178 nautical miles via Cairo, the main airport of the Midlandsabout 10 h 15 min
4,224 nautical miles via Cairo, the departure for the north-west of Englandabout 10 h 25 min
4,341 nautical miles via Cairo, the main Scottish departure, about 300 nautical miles further than Biggin Hillabout 10 h 40 min
A large-cabin jet does without the stop. A Global 6000 covers the 3,945 nautical miles from Biggin Hill to Kilimanjaro in about 8 h 35 min, and the same aircraft reaches Dar es Salaam, which lies further south, in about 9 h 05 min.
Why the title price includes a stop
Kilimanjaro lies 3,945 nautical miles from Biggin Hill. An Embraer Praetor 600 is published at about 4,000 nautical miles of range with four passengers and reserves, so on paper it nearly reaches. In practice a planner does not accept a margin of under a hundred miles on a route that crosses the desert and the Rift Valley, with a headwind on the way home, so the Praetor is priced with one technical stop. Cairo sits close to the direct line, which means the stop costs an hour on the ground and very little extra distance: about 139 nautical miles in all, 1,963 to Cairo and 2,121 from Cairo to Kilimanjaro.
A Challenger 350, at about 3,250 nautical miles, also flies the route with one stop, and the Cairo legs are inside its range. A midsize jet such as a Citation XLS+, with about 2,100 nautical miles, needs two stops, which few clients accept. The operator files the route and the overflight permissions for every state along it.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Prices for the private jet flights to Tanzania
Typical private jet charter prices from Britain to Kilimanjaro International, listed cheapest first. Every row is a Praetor 600 with one technical stop in Cairo, the smallest aircraft we price for this run with a single stop. London City is left out on purpose, because its short runway is a poor start for a sector of this length:

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– The departure airfield moves the price by a few thousand pounds and not by tens of thousands. Edinburgh costs about £3,900 more than Biggin Hill on the same aircraft and Glasgow about £4,300 more;
– A one-way price assumes the aircraft flies back empty. For a return trip with a stay of a week or more the aircraft either waits in Tanzania, with parking and crew accommodation as lines of their own, or flies home and returns for you. Neither is cheap, and a one-way charter paired with an empty leg for the way back is often the better arrangement.
Kilimanjaro is the anchor because it is the airport that serves Arusha, the northern parks and the mountain, and the one most safari parties want. Other Tanzanian airports cost more or less depending on the distance, and a Global 6000 shows what skipping the stop costs:
| Route from Biggin Hill | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Biggin Hill - Kilimanjaro (Arusha and the north) 4,084 nm / 7,564 km via Cairo |
Praetor 600 one stop, Cairo |
about 10 h 05 min | from £64,100 |
| Biggin Hill - Zanzibar 4,280 nm / 7,927 km via Cairo |
Praetor 600 one stop, Cairo |
about 10 h 30 min | from £67,050 |
| Biggin Hill - Dar es Salaam 4,319 nm / 7,999 km via Cairo |
Praetor 600 one stop, Cairo |
about 10 h 35 min | from £67,650 |
| Biggin Hill - Kilimanjaro (Arusha and the north) 3,945 nm / 7,306 km |
Global 6000 nonstop |
about 8 h 35 min | from £107,550 |
| Biggin Hill - Dar es Salaam 4,196 nm / 7,771 km |
Global 6000 nonstop |
about 9 h 05 min | from £114,100 |
Why the title says Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro has a 3,600-metre runway, customs and a tower open round the clock, and it is the airport most parties want. A Global 6000 flying Biggin Hill to Kilimanjaro nonstop costs £107,550, which is £43,450 more than the Praetor with its stop in Cairo. The difference buys about 1 h 30 min of flying time, a bigger cabin and room for the luggage that a safari always brings.
Private jet flights within Tanzania and to its neighbours
A Tanzanian trip is usually a hub and spoke. The jet from Britain lands at Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, and the party moves on by turboprop to a lodge, a park or the coast and back. The sectors below start at Kilimanjaro and include the neighbouring capitals:

Two things worth knowing about the sectors inside Tanzania
– The airstrips in the Serengeti, around Lake Manyara and in the southern reserves are gravel or dirt, and as we understand it they are used by turboprops and not by jets. Seronera, the main strip of the Serengeti, has a gravel runway of about 2,280 metres at 1,548 metres above sea level, and the scheduled safari airlines use it every day;
– A chartered Pilatus PC-12 gives the party its own timetable on these sectors, where the scheduled flights follow a fixed morning round of strips.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Tanzania:
Turboprops and light jets
The class for the hops inside Tanzania once you are there. The Pilatus PC-12 NGX takes up to nine on the sectors to the Serengeti and the southern reserves. From London these aircraft need three or more stops to reach the country, which few clients accept.
Super-midsize
The smallest class that reaches Tanzania with a single stop, and the one our title price is built on. A Challenger 350 flies the same two legs through Cairo.
Large cabin
For a family with a long stay ahead, or a delegation with staff, and room to rest on a night sector. Range is tighter on the way home, because the aircraft leaves heavy from a field at 894 metres.
Ultra-long range
The class that flies London to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam nonstop, with the margin to come home the same way with a full cabin.

Business aviation airports in Tanzania
Three international airports take a jet from Europe, and the useful question is which of them is on the same side of the country as the plan:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Kilimanjaro International JRO / HTKJ |
About 42 km east-south-east of Arusha, at 894 metres above sea level, between Arusha and Moshi | The answer for a jet arriving from Europe and the gateway to the northern parks. One asphalt runway of 3,600 metres, a control tower open round the clock, customs on site, and no slot requirement on its record. Handling is compulsory. The airport hours are listed as weekdays 07:30 to 17:00 local, with other times by prior notice, so a night arrival is agreed in advance |
| Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International DAR / HTDA |
About 10 km west-south-west of the city centre, at 55 metres | The commercial capital and the port. Runway 05/23 of 3,000 metres, a tower open round the clock, customs on site, and no slots or compulsory handling on its record. Terminal 1 takes private, charter and small aircraft, and a VIP terminal for state and high-profile passengers sits in that area. Records list weekday airport hours of 07:30 to 15:30 local, with other times on request |
| Zanzibar Abeid Amani Karume International ZNZ / HTZA |
About 5 km south of Zanzibar City, almost at sea level | The island gateway. A runway of about 3,000 metres, customs on site and weekday hours listed as 07:30 to 15:30 local. Landing needs a separate permission from the Zanzibar government on top of the national clearance |
| Mwanza MWZ / HTMW |
About 9 km north-north-east of the city, at 1,147 metres on the shore of Lake Victoria | A long runway of more than 3,000 metres, customs available, a tower open round the clock and weekday hours of 07:30 to 15:30 local. The record does not list it as an airport of entry, so a trip from Britain would normally enter the country elsewhere first. It serves the western Serengeti and Lake Victoria |
| Arusha ARK / HTAR |
About 7 km west of the town, at 1,387 metres | The domestic safari hub. An asphalt runway of about 1,860 metres, hours listed as 06:30 to 19:00 local, and no customs listed. Scheduled and charter turboprops leave from here for the Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the southern reserves. A jet from Europe lands at Kilimanjaro, not here |
| Seronera airstrip SEU / HTSN |
Inside the Serengeti National Park, at 1,548 metres | A gravel runway of about 2,280 metres run by the park authority. It is the main strip of the Serengeti and a turboprop field, not a destination for a business jet |
Kilimanjaro is run by the Kilimanjaro Airport Development Company and has scheduled services to Amsterdam, Doha, Istanbul, Addis Ababa, Nairobi and Dubai. Handling is compulsory. Records list VIA Aviation, which markets the Tanzanite Jet Centre brand, and General Aviation Services as a supervising agent, and the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority licenses Swissport, NAS-DAR Airco and Equity AST for ramp handling at the field. Fuel is listed. We name the handler we use in the quote, because a supervising agent books services and does not work the ramp.
Dar es Salaam is the other gateway for a business party. Terminal 1 takes charter, private and small aircraft, while the international airlines use the separate Terminal 3, so the route from the aircraft to the car depends on which building the handler uses. VIA Aviation and Servair Aviation are licensed there as handlers with FBO status, among several others. The record shows no slots and no compulsory handling, but we book a handler regardless, so parking, fuel and crew transport are not left to the day.
Mwanza and Arusha are domestic fields for a trip that has already entered the country, and the gravel strips of the parks are for turboprops. Weekday hours matter at almost every airport on the list: outside them an arrival needs prior notice, and the cost of customs cover appears as a line of its own in the quote.
Four points settle most Tanzanian arrivals before a quote goes out:
Flight clearance first
A foreign-registered aircraft needs a flight clearance from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority before it overflies or lands. The operator, or an agent registered on the authority's online permit portal, submits it. Permit specialists quote 24 to 48 working hours for a complete file and recommend 48 to 72 hours as a working lead time, and the authority itself does not publish a lead time.
The first landing
An aircraft entering the country must make its first landing at an international aerodrome or another aerodrome notified for entry, so a safari strip is never the first stop. For a trip from Britain that means Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.
Zanzibar is a second request
Landing in Zanzibar needs prior permission from the Zanzibar government, requested from the Principal Secretary at the Office of the President, and the two permissions have to describe the same flight.
What goes in the file
Certificates of registration and airworthiness, the insurance certificate, the operator's air operator certificate for a commercial flight, a dangerous goods declaration where it applies, and the crew and passenger details. The flight information region over the country is Dar es Salaam, and routing is checked against the current aeronautical publications before the plan is filed.
Arriving from Britain: passports, visas and insurance
Tanzania is far outside the Schengen area and asks British visitors for a visa, an insurance policy bought from the state and a health form. Every passenger needs each of them before the immigration desk:
the passport must be valid for at least six months after the day of arrival and have at least one blank page; a dual national returning to Britain must carry a British passport or proof of the right of abodeevery passenger, children included
a tourist or business visa is required, and the British government advises applying for the e-visa online before travel; a single-entry visa can also be obtained on arrival at the main ports of entry, and officers may ask for proof of the return journey, while multiple-entry visas are not available on arrivale-visa online, before the flight
non-resident visitors to the mainland or to Zanzibar must buy the Tanzanian government inbound travel insurance, which covers up to 92 days and is needed only for the first port of entry; the National Insurance Corporation sells it for a mainland arrival and the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation for an arrival in Zanzibar, and entry can be refused without itbought online or on arrival
every traveller completes the Travellers Health Surveillance Form before departure or on arrival; a yellow fever certificate is needed when the traveller arrives from a country listed as a yellow fever transmission risk, which matters if a technical stop falls in such a countryform for everyone, certificate by routing
declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to duty; do not bring animal-skin accessories into the country, and horns, seashells and other wildlife items need a certified export permit from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to leavecheck before you pack
The crew's visas are typically arranged by the handler on arrival for a short stay. Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation. Most other nationalities do.
Read the travel advice before you book
The British government publishes advice for Tanzania, and the part that names a specific area is short: it advises against all but essential travel to any area within 20 km of the Tanzanian border with the Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique, because of attacks by groups linked with Islamic extremism. That strip lies in the far south-east of the country, a long way from the airports, parks and islands described on this page.
The northern parks, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar lie outside the area named, and those are the places this page is about. We read the advice against your itinerary before we quote and again close to departure. Travelling against it can invalidate travel insurance, and a flight is confirmed only when the operator holds the route, the permissions and the insurance cover in writing. If airspace is closed, the flight does not operate, and the practical alternative is the nearest open airport and a ground transfer, which we price on request.

Which airport for which part of Tanzania
Tanzania is almost four times the size of the United Kingdom, and what matters is where the party sleeps:
the town is the base for Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti; scheduled flights run from Arusha to strips beside the lodges, and a charter turboprop takes the same route on the party's own timetableKilimanjaro, then a turboprop from Kilimanjaro or Arusha
the park has several gravel strips, among them Seronera in the centre, and camps in the south, the west and the north use the strip nearest to them as the herds moveKilimanjaro, then a turboprop to the strip
the summit stands at 5,895 metres and the airport sits at its foot; climbing parties fly in, drive to the park gate and start the next morningKilimanjaro
the island is a short hop from Dar es Salaam or the mainland coast, and it has its own international airport with a separate permit; many parties end a safari on the beachZanzibar, or Dar es Salaam and a short flight
Dar es Salaam is the largest city, the main port and the commercial centre, while the federal capital Dodoma is the seat of government; delegations and executives normally enter through Dar es SalaamDar es Salaam
Mwanza serves the western Serengeti, and the southern reserves, among them Selous in Nyerere National Park, Ruaha and Mikumi, are reached by turboprop from Dar es SalaamMwanza, or Dar es Salaam and a turboprop
Safari, the mountain and the coast: what our clients go for
Safari comes first. The Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara make up the northern circuit, and the whole of it lies within an hour or two of Kilimanjaro by turboprop, in place of a long day on unpaved roads. A jet to Kilimanjaro, a car to the apron for the turboprop, or a turboprop waiting beside the jet, is the standard pattern, and we quote it as a single itinerary with one timetable and one point of contact.
Kilimanjaro is the second reason. Africa's highest mountain draws parties of colleagues, families and charity groups, and a group that is climbing for a week has no use for a connection that might slip.
The coast is third: Zanzibar for the beach and Stone Town, the island of Mafia for diving, and Dar es Salaam for business. A party that has finished a safari often ends on the sand, and the jet flies it from the bush to the sea without a change in Dar es Salaam. Business visitors are fewer but regular, and they plan around Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.
The Tanzanian year: two sets of rains and the herds
The north of Tanzania has two rainy seasons, from October to December and from March to May, and the herds of the Serengeti follow the rain. The warmest months nationally run from November to February, with daytime highs of about 25 to 31 degrees, and the coolest from May to August, when the temperature falls to about 15 to 20. What changes the plan from month to month is where the wildebeest are:
the herds move into the central and southern Serengeti and spread over the plains around Ndutu; calving lasts about six weeks and peaks in February, and predator activity is at its highestcalving season, warm
the long rains begin and the herds move north-west; some camps close, visitor numbers are at their lowest and rates droplong rains, quiet
the herds cross the Grumeti River in the west from May to July and gather in the north from July; the Mara River crossings peak in August and September, and on the Tanzanian side the Kogatende and Lamai areas offer them with fewer vehiclesdry season, peak safari
the herds start to move south as the short rains arrive; showers are brief, the crowds thin and rates softenshort rains
The airfield is high, and the strips are higher
Kilimanjaro stands at 894 metres, Arusha at 1,387 and the Seronera strip at 1,548. At that height the air is thinner, and an aircraft needs a longer run to take off and carries less for a given weight, especially on a warm afternoon. A long sector home with full tanks and a full cabin can limit the payload, and a PC-12 leaving a gravel strip with a full load of luggage does the same. We ask for the payload to be confirmed in the quote.
The Tanzanian calendar: the calving, the marathon and the dry season
A handful of dates and seasons fill the camps and the aprons:
What a season does to a flight plan
The peak weeks of the dry season, the calving weeks and the Christmas holidays tighten the supply of turboprops at Arusha and of beds in the camps. A booking made six to eight weeks before a peak is simpler than one made in the last week, and the shoulder months of June, October and November are easier than July and August.

Flying to Tanzania with a dog or a cat
The cabin is not the problem: the animal sits beside you for the ten hours. The paperwork is the problem. Tanzania asks for an import permit before the animal travels, and Britain does not treat Tanzania as a listed country, so an animal coming home needs a rabies blood test planned months before the flight.
The one fact to read before you book
Published guidance for owners says that an animal imported into Tanzania needs an import permit, requested by letter from the Director of Veterinary Services at the ministry responsible for livestock. The letter states the type and breed of the pet, its age and the port where it will enter, and carries the vaccination certificates. The animal also needs a health certificate from a qualified veterinary surgeon in the country of export, and a rabies vaccination given at least one month and not more than three years before entry. Animals may enter only through designated ports, where a vet examines them and may place them in quarantine.
That guidance does not mention a private aircraft. Whether the animal may travel in the cabin of your jet, which port it should enter through and whether Zanzibar wants a separate approval are things we confirm with the Tanzanian authorities in writing before we quote. If the animal is to leave Tanzania again, the guidance asks for an export permit.
- A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination, as the return to Britain requires;
- A rabies vaccination given at least one month, and not more than three years, before entry to Tanzania, and at least 21 days before the return to Britain;
- The Tanzanian import permit, requested in advance by letter, and the health certificate from your vet, with the vaccination record attached;
- For the return, a rabies blood test, because Tanzania is not listed: the sample is taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, goes to an approved laboratory, and must show a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml, and GOV.UK counts three months from the date of the sample before the animal may travel to Britain;
- For dogs only, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. A cat needs no treatment.
An approved travel route for the return is the last item. GOV.UK tells owners to check it, and its guidance does not say how the rule applies to a private aircraft, so we confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight. An animal that does not meet the rules can be placed in quarantine for up to four months at the owner's expense.
A dog's tapeworm visit falls in Tanzania, near the end of the stay, so a vet has to be found before you leave. Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Many trips on this sector are one-way by nature: a family flies out for a safari fortnight, and the aircraft comes home or moves on.
Where Tanzanian empty legs come from
– Aircraft that take a family or a company party to Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam and fly back to Britain without passengers, which is the leg most often offered;
– Regional legs between Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and the Gulf.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. Typical Tanzanian empty legs:

| Zanzibar - Nairobi | Phenom 300E | 8 seats | £2,400 |
| Dar es Salaam - Dubai | Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £17,850 |
| Kilimanjaro - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £26,900 |
| UK (Birmingham) - Kilimanjaro | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £27,500 |
| UK (Manchester) - Kilimanjaro | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £27,800 |
| UK (Edinburgh) - Kilimanjaro | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £28,550 |
| Dar es Salaam - UK (Farnborough) | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £28,600 |
| UK (London Luton) - Dar es Salaam | Praetor 600 | 9 seats | £28,600 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Praetor 600 from London Luton to Dar es Salaam at £28,600 with eight aboard comes to about £3,600 a head;
– A leg that points towards Britain is easier to find at the end of the school holidays and after the peak weeks of the dry season, and an open return date helps.

Helicopter charter
A helicopter in Tanzania is a tool for the edges of a trip, arranged case by case. We do not publish a standing helicopter service for the country, because the machine, the crew and the permission for each landing site come from local operators and are confirmed for the date. The times below are straight-line planning estimates:
to the lake and the gateway to Ngorongoro, a morning flight in place of a long driveabout 50 min
across the channel to the island, in place of the ferry or a fixed-wing hopabout 30 min
a long sector for a helicopter, usually flown as a transfer between camps and not as a day tripabout 1 h 25 min
Typical machines are the Airbus H125 and H130, and the H135 or Bell 429 where a twin is wanted. At the height of Arusha and the Serengeti a helicopter carries less than at sea level, which is why the load is stated in the quote. We book it alongside the jet, so the whole itinerary is quoted as one.
Before you plan around a helicopter
The national parks and conservation areas have their own rules on landing sites and on flying over wildlife, so we confirm the permission for every landing site and every overflown area before we quote. A camp lawn or a lake shore is not a site until it has been approved.

Tanzanian charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
SERENGETI · A FAMILY SAFARI
Three generations and a turboprop
Farnborough - Kilimanjaro, Praetor 600 via Cairo, about 10 h 10 min · 6 pax
The jet landed at Kilimanjaro in the morning, the party walked across to a Pilatus PC-12, and the turboprop set them down at a gravel strip in the Serengeti before lunch. The jet waited for the return.
MOUNT KILIMANJARO · A CLIMBING PARTY
Eight colleagues and a week on the mountain
London Luton - Kilimanjaro, Praetor 600 via Cairo, about 10 h 10 min · 8 pax
They left London in the evening, landed in the morning and drove to the park gate the same day. The aircraft flew home empty and came back for them at the end of the week, because the dates were fixed in advance.
DAR ES SALAAM · A BUSINESS DELEGATION
Executives with a short programme
Birmingham - Dar es Salaam, Praetor 600 via Cairo, about 10 h 50 min · 7 pax
The flight clearance request went in well ahead, the handler was fixed before the flight plan, and the visas and the insurance for the whole party were checked a week before the date. The programme took two days, and the aircraft waited.
ZANZIBAR · A HONEYMOON
Two guests and a nonstop sector
Biggin Hill - Zanzibar, Global 6000, about 9 h · 2 pax
The couple wanted to leave in the evening and arrive for breakfast on the beach, and they accepted the price of a long-range jet to avoid the stop. The island needed its own permission, which we requested at the same time as the national one.
WITH THE DOG · THE LONG LEAD TIME
Two adults and a spaniel on a posting
Biggin Hill - Kilimanjaro, Praetor 600 via Cairo, about 10 h 05 min · 2 pax + dog
The import permit came first, then the vet's certificate, and the rabies blood test for the way home was taken early because Tanzania is not a listed country.
EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN
A Dar es Salaam departure with a window of three days
Dar es Salaam - London Luton, Praetor 600 empty leg, about 10 h 40 min · 4 pax
The client gave us a window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £28,600, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a departure on the second day of the window.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Tanzania
1How long does it take to fly to Tanzania by private jet?
About 10 hours 05 minutes from London Biggin Hill to Kilimanjaro on a Praetor 600 with a stop in Cairo, and 10 hours 40 minutes from Edinburgh. A Global 6000 flies Biggin Hill to Kilimanjaro nonstop in 8 hours 35 minutes. Tanzania is three hours ahead of Britain in winter and two hours ahead in summer.
2How much does a private jet to Tanzania cost?
From about £64,100 one way from Biggin Hill to Kilimanjaro on a Praetor 600 with one stop in Cairo. Edinburgh costs about £3,900 more on the same aircraft. A Global 6000 flying nonstop is £107,550, Dar es Salaam on a Praetor with a stop is £67,650, and a turboprop from Kilimanjaro to the Serengeti starts from £3,100.
3Which airport should a private jet use in Tanzania?
Kilimanjaro International (JRO / HTKJ) for Arusha, the northern parks and the mountain: a 3,600-metre runway, customs on site, a tower open round the clock and compulsory handling. Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere (DAR / HTDA) for business and the south, and Zanzibar (ZNZ / HTZA) for the island, which needs a separate permission.
4Do British passengers need a visa for a private flight to Tanzania?
Yes. A tourist or business visa is required, and the British government advises applying for the e-visa online before travel. The passport must be valid for at least six months after arrival with one blank page, non-residents must buy the Tanzanian government inbound travel insurance, and every traveller completes the Travellers Health Surveillance Form. The aircraft needs a flight clearance from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority, and Zanzibar needs its own permission.
5Can a private jet land in the Serengeti?
As we understand it, the airstrips of the Serengeti are gravel and are used by turboprops, not by jets. The usual plan is a jet to Kilimanjaro and a Pilatus PC-12 or a similar turboprop to a strip such as Seronera, which has a gravel runway of about 2,280 metres. We book the whole chain as one itinerary.
6Can I take my dog or cat to Tanzania on a private jet?
It can be done, but start early. The animal needs a Tanzanian import permit requested in advance, a health certificate from your vet and a rabies vaccination given between one month and three years before entry, and the published rules do not mention a private aircraft, so we confirm in writing that the animal may travel in the cabin. For the return Tanzania is not a listed country, so it needs a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination, a rabies blood test, a Great Britain pet health certificate and, for dogs, a tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before arrival.
