Private jet charter in Rome
From a London airfield Rome is a sector of about two and a quarter hours, and almost everything that can go wrong with it happens on the ground at one airport. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around that fact. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Rome has three airports and only one of them is set up for business jets. Ciampino has a general aviation terminal, a short list of handlers and a parking apron that fills quickly, so the real decisions are the date, the permission number and what happens to the aircraft while you are in the city.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Rome depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Rome?
Two hours twenty from Biggin Hill in a light jet, a little under three from Glasgow, and one hour of clock difference to add on arrival, because Rome keeps Central European time. At 800 to 1,100 nautical miles this is the far end of what a light jet does comfortably, which is why a lot of Rome quotes quietly start in the midsize class. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall
Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you are on the ground at Ciampino around twenty past ten local time in a light jet. The airport is about 12 km from the centre, the drive takes 30 to 40 minutes and in rush hour it can stretch to an hour, while customs and passport checks at the general aviation terminal typically take 10 to 20 minutes. That puts a client in a central Rome meeting room a little before noon. It is a good morning, and it is a different morning from the one scheduled flights give you: no terminal queue, no baggage hall, and a car that is waiting at the aircraft door and not in the arrivals hall at Fiumicino, which is about 30 km from the city and a journey of 35 minutes to an hour.
Light jet or midsize: the question that actually comes up on this route
– Up to four people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the sensible answer and the saving is real. Expect about two hours twenty in the air and a cabin that is comfortable for an hour or two and snug once the bags for a long stay go in;
– Five to eight people, or a party with golf bags, camera cases or a week of luggage for Tuscany, and we quote a midsize jet beside the light one so you see both figures. At this distance the extra speed and the standing room count for more than they do on a Paris run;
– Heavy aircraft belong to large delegations and to trips that carry on from Rome to the Gulf or Africa. They also meet the one rule at Ciampino that can catch an unwary booking, the summer limit for wide wingspans described further down.

Prices for the private jet flights to Rome
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into the general aviation terminal at Ciampino. Easter week, the Italian Open in May and the Christmas and New Year weeks sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Bombardier Challenger 350 | 8 | from £22,250 |
| Glasgow - Rome 1,117 nm |
Bombardier Challenger 350 | 8 | from £22,650 |
The spread is wider than it looks. A light jet out of Biggin Hill or London City opens at £11,050, and the same booking from Luton or Farnborough is within a few hundred pounds of it, because the extra distance is small next to the cost of positioning an aircraft to the London fields in the first place. The midsize class from the south, the Midlands and Cardiff runs from £14,100 to £15,250, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow in a Challenger 350 you should allow £22,250 to £22,650. We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. Private jet flights from Rome
Rome is a hub for the places around it. Naples, Sardinia, Tuscany and Umbria are all short hops, and in summer, when the smaller airports on the coast are congested, a lot of that traffic comes through Rome. Venice and Milan are within a light-jet hour, Nice and Zurich a little over. Typical one-way prices:

The coast from the air: when a turboprop beats the autostrada
Naples is only about 98 nautical miles from Rome, which a Pilatus PC-12 covers in well under an hour for £3,100, and from there a helicopter or a boat takes you on to Capri and the Amalfi coast. Olbia is the airport for the Costa Smeralda, 155 nautical miles across the Tyrrhenian Sea, and Florence is the way into Tuscany. The saving over a jet on distances this short is large. For a party of nine or fewer, the question is not whether to fly to the coast but which airport is closest to the front door.
Before you accept an Italian onward quote
– Where the aircraft sleeps. If it flies you from Ciampino to the coast and waits, it needs a parking permit at the other end; if it comes back to Rome empty, it needs one at Ciampino as well. A quote that does not say which is a quote that will change;
– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Rome to Olbia and back a week later, with a London return on top, costs noticeably more as separate legs than as a single trip in which the aircraft and crew stay with you.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Rome:
Light jets, for short stays and small parties
At around two hours twenty from London this is the class for four people and ordinary luggage. Rome has no range problem, so the money goes on the flying hour; the thing to watch is the baggage hold on a longer stay.
Midsize, the usual answer for Rome
Five to eight passengers, luggage for Tuscany or the coast, and a cabin you can stand up in on a sector that runs past two and a quarter hours.
Super-midsize and large
For a delegation travelling together, for an executive team that wants to work through the flight, and for itineraries that carry on from Rome to the Gulf or to Africa. Check the wingspan before you commit in summer.
Turboprops
The right aircraft for Naples, Florence and Olbia. Short sectors, short runways and a saving over a jet that you will notice on the invoice.
Helicopters
Not for the flight from Britain but for the edges of the trip: a transfer from the airport to a villa, the Amalfi coast or Tuscany, or an hour over the lake and the hills north of Rome. The pad and the permission come before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Rome sits in the middle of the Italian fleet, so outside the Easter and Christmas peaks there is often an aircraft already within an hour of Ciampino, at Naples, Florence or Milan, and that is often where a better price comes from. In summer the opposite can be true: the big aircraft are fully committed and parking in Rome is rationed, so book the aircraft and the permission together.

Business aviation airports in Rome
Rome has three airports that matter and a decision that is mostly made for you: general aviation is meant to use Ciampino. The others are there for specific reasons, and it helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Rome Ciampino, G. B. Pastine CIA / LIRA |
The answer for almost every trip. About 12 km south-east of the centre, with a general aviation terminal that has customs and immigration on site and takes aircraft from small turboprops to widebodies. The runway is about 2,200 m. Handling is done by operators at the terminal, with Signature Aviation and Sky Services both listed. Private flights need no slot but they do need a prior permission number, which the handler issues |
| Rome Fiumicino, Leonardo da Vinci FCO / LIRF |
Italy's main hub, about 30 km west of the city, and not a business aviation airport: there is no general aviation terminal, passengers clear formalities in the main terminal and parking needs a separate permission. It exists for private jets as the night and overflow option, with general aviation accepted from 23:01 to 06:00 when Ciampino is shut, for a stay of up to 12 hours |
| Rome Urbe ROM / LIRU |
A small field about 7 km north-north-west of the centre, inside the ring road, with a runway of about 1,080 m. Light aircraft, flying schools and helicopters, with a dedicated helicopter terminal. Customs is listed as available, slots are not needed and opening hours are limited, so it is for a turboprop, a very light jet or a helicopter and for nothing larger |
| Pescara, Rimini, Forlì, Bologna PSR / LIBP, RMI / LIPR, FRL / LIPK, BLQ / LIPE |
Not alternatives for passengers but the places a Rome-bound aircraft is sent when Ciampino has no room for it to wait. Handling guidance names these four first, with Milan Linate and Malpensa further out. Worth knowing because they decide whether your aircraft can stay overnight or has to leave empty |
Four points settle most Rome arrivals:
Choose the handler
Ciampino's general aviation terminal has a short list of handling agents, with Signature Aviation and Sky Services at the desks. Customs officers are not always on site, so the handler has to confirm in advance that someone will be there to clear you. We ask the operator for its preference and book the handler with the flight.
Hours, permission and noise
General aviation is accepted at Ciampino from 06:00 to 23:00 local, seven days a week. A prior permission number is needed round the clock and goes into the flight plan, and any change of time or route needs a fresh one. Charter flights with more than 19 seats also need a slot, with a tolerance of ten minutes late and fifteen early. Aircraft of the oldest noise stages, Stage 1 and 2, are prohibited at both Rome airports.
Border and passport
Italy is in Schengen and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the terminal before the car. Passenger names and passport details go to the handler ahead of time, and customs may ask to see the luggage. Take your passport and not a copy, and check that it is valid for the whole stay.
Parking and the car
Apron space is the scarce thing. Ciampino has a few stands at the terminal and a remote area where passengers are bussed, and in summer, between 1 May and 30 September, an aircraft with a wingspan above 21.40 m is accepted only for a turnaround of up to 24 hours. Give us the handler as well as the flight, because a driver sent to the wrong door can wait an hour.

Border, passport and the Fiumicino fallback
Ciampino is where the work gets done, and Fiumicino is where it gets done when it cannot be done anywhere else. A booking that lands after 23:00 will be told to use Fiumicino, where there is no private terminal and formalities are carried out among the scheduled passengers. It adds up to half an hour at the border and an hour on the road to the centre, so a late flight into Rome is worth moving earlier by a few hours whenever the client can. We would sooner rebook the day than turn a trip into a night in an airline terminal.

From the apron to the Forum
Rome is a city you reach in half an hour and then spend three days walking. The historic centre is small and old, the roads into it are slow and the useful distances run outward: to the lake and hills in the north, to the Castelli Romani in the south-east, and to the coast.

Flying to Rome with a dog or a cat
Italy asks for more paperwork than the flight needs, and a flight of this length is short enough that most animals sleep through it. The animal sits in the cabin with you and does not go into the hold. The detail that matters is the date on the certificate, because it counts from the day it is issued, not from the day you leave.

What the journey asks for:
- An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time as it;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 full days elapsed before travel;
- An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian for each trip, valid for ten days for entry into the EU and for six months for onward travel and the return to Britain;
- A signed declaration that the animal will not be sold or rehomed while abroad, issued with the certificate;
- No more than five animals as a foot passenger, shown at the travellers' point of entry, which the handler arranges at the terminal;
- For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before the return flight to Britain, recorded with product, date and time. Cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Rome run
– A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used to enter the EU, even one issued abroad. Each trip needs its own certificate, and an animal whose rabies vaccination lapses during the stay loses the right to come home on it;
– The return treatment is a vet appointment in Rome, in a window of about four days. Book it when you book the flight, near the end of the stay, and not on the Friday evening before you leave;
– If you and the animal cannot fly on the same day, someone else can bring it if they travel to the same destination within five days of you, with a declaration naming them signed by the owner.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Rome calendar: a city that is never quiet
Rome has no off-season, only a lighter and a heavier year. Winter is markets and carnival, spring is Holy Week, tennis and fashion, summer is heat and the airport at its tightest, and the autumn belongs to films and conferences. The week you pick matters more than the aircraft.
Why a Holy Week or Christmas booking costs more
Not the flying. The Italian light and midsize fleet is large and Rome is well placed in it. What gets tight is a parking permit at Ciampino, space on the apron and good cars, all in the same few days. A booking made a fortnight before Easter or Christmas can still be done, but it pays more, and it may mean an aircraft that has to be positioned from Naples, Florence or Milan. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside the peaks Rome is among the easier capitals to charter to, and a day or two is often enough.
Ways to bring the Rome price down
- Move the dates by a few days where you can. The week after Easter is calmer than the week before it, and early November is quiet;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Naples, Florence or Milan needs far less positioning than one that starts in Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a large share of the bill;
- Think about the overnight. An aircraft that has to leave Ciampino empty for Pescara or Bologna and come back for you is flying two extra sectors, so a quote that secures parking in Rome can cost less than one that does not.
Types of flights
Rome produces a different mix from Milan or Venice, because it is a capital, a pilgrimage city and the gateway to a central Italy that has no large airports of its own.
- Government, embassy and corporate trips, where the timing is fixed and arrival formalities are the main concern;
- City breaks and family weekends, mostly short, often at Easter or Christmas;
- Tennis week at the Foro Italico, with hospitality guests flying in for a day or two;
- Onward travel to Tuscany, Umbria and Marche, using Rome when the smaller airports are full in summer;
- Coast and island transfers to Naples, the Amalfi coast, Capri, Sardinia and Sicily, often with a helicopter at the far end;
- Film and fashion visits in May and October.
The day trip is possible but it is the hardest one on this corridor. Well over two hours each way plus the road at both ends is a long day, and the aircraft and crew have to wait for you at a parking-constrained airport, which is a real line in the quote. A same-day return works best in winter or outside the peak, when there is room to park, and we quote it both ways so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Rome route they come from the way the airport works, and it helps to know what produces them.
Where Rome empty legs come from
– The parking rule. With apron space short at Ciampino, an aircraft often cannot wait for a return and leaves empty for another airport after dropping a party. The outbound leg is the one offered, often the same afternoon;
– Holy Week and the Christmas weeks. Aircraft come in with guests for the weekend and go back to Britain or the Italian bases, and the leg that follows is the one most often free;
– Tennis and fashion weeks. When a run of corporate trips ends, aircraft tend to move on empty, and the leg out of Rome can be cheaper than a fresh charter.
Because Rome sits at the end of a long sector and not on the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Rome match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In Rome a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The centre is something you cross by car or on foot, and the places where rotary flight changes the journey are the lake and hills north of the city, the Castelli Romani and the coast to the south.
the standard short scenic flight, over the city landmarks and then the lakeabout 30 minutes
a longer private flight over the city and the hills south-east of itabout 1 hour
the hour-long version, with the coastline addedabout 1 hour
a transfer by helicopter in place of a drive that takes 30 to 60 minuteson request
used in summer when Naples and Salerno are at capacityon request
Before you plan around a helicopter
– Flights over the historic centre are not something we promise. Routes are agreed with the operator, and a tour that passes the landmarks on a map may not follow the same line in practice, so we confirm the track before the booking;
– Weather and air traffic set the schedule. Wind, visibility and traffic can all delay a flight on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative in the same plan;
– Sightseeing helicopters on the Rome lakes run to three passengers in a Robinson R44 and up to five in an Airbus. For larger parties or longer transfers we use a twin, and for peak weeks the helicopter is booked together with the jet.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for hill and lake work, the wider H130 for scenic and villa transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the AW139 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Rome charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
HOLY WEEK · A PARKING PERMIT BOOKED FIRST
Four adults and a three-night stay at Easter
Biggin Hill - Rome and return, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 20 min each way · 4 pax
The first thing agreed was not the aircraft but the parking at Ciampino, because a holiday week strains the apron. With the permission number in hand the aircraft stayed through the weekend, the car met the party at the aircraft door and the whole stay ran without the party seeing an arrivals hall.
TENNIS WEEK · THE SPORT BOOKED THE DATES
Six guests for the Italian Open
Farnborough - Rome, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 15 min · 6 pax
The dates came from the tournament and not from the client. Six people, two nights, corporate hospitality at the Foro Italico and a car held at the terminal on both evenings. The booking went in six weeks ahead and the handler arranged the passport check in advance.
SUMMER · THE WINGSPAN RULE
A Gulfstream and a 24-hour turnaround
London Luton - Rome, Gulfstream G450, about 2 h 15 min · 10 pax
In summer, aircraft with a wingspan above 21.40 m are accepted at Ciampino only for a turnaround of up to 24 hours, and a Gulfstream is one of them. The party wanted four nights, so the jet took them in, left empty for a nearby airport and came back for the return. We priced that at the start so the invoice held no surprise.
ROME AS THE GATEWAY · THEN A HELICOPTER
London to Rome, then on to the Amalfi coast
Southampton - Rome, XLS+, about 2 h 20 min · then helicopter · 5 pax
Naples was full for the weekend and the party wanted the coast, so the jet went to Ciampino and a helicopter took over from there. One timetable, two crews and a car at each end.
CHRISTMAS · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a spaniel for a December weekend
Southampton - Rome, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 20 min · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Rome for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the hotel took the dog, and everything was settled in one exchange of messages instead of three.
EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING NORTH
A jet already going your way
Rome - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 15 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and could not stay at Ciampino, so it was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Rome
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Rome?
About 2 hours 20 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, and around 2 hours 15 minutes from Luton or Farnborough in a Phenom, covering roughly 801 to 836 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Bristol or Cardiff allow about 2 hours 30, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 2 hours 50 to 2 hours 55. Rome is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands shortly after ten local time.
2How much does a private jet to Rome cost?
From about £11,050 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, and £11,150 from London City. A midsize cabin runs £14,100 to £15,250 from the south, the Midlands and Cardiff, and from Scotland allow £22,250 to £22,650. Easter week, the Italian Open and the Christmas and New Year weeks price above these figures.
3Which Rome airport should a private jet use?
Ciampino (CIA / LIRA) for almost every trip. It is about 12 km from the centre, it has a general aviation terminal with customs and passport control, and it accepts general aviation from 06:00 to 23:00 local time. Fiumicino (FCO / LIRF) has no private terminal and is mainly a night and overflow option, and Urbe (ROM / LIRU) is for turboprops, very light jets and helicopters only.
4When should I book a private jet to Rome?
Outside the peaks a day or two is often enough. For Holy Week and Easter, the Italian Open in May and the Christmas and New Year weeks, allow four to six weeks. Parking at Ciampino, apron space and cars all get tight in the same days, and a late booking tends to pay more for an aircraft positioned from another city.
5Can I fly on from Rome to Naples, Florence or Sardinia?
Yes, and a turboprop is the usual aircraft: Naples is about 98 nautical miles from Rome and costs from about £3,100 in a Pilatus PC-12, Florence is 141 nautical miles and Olbia, for the Costa Smeralda, is 155. A helicopter can then take you on to Capri, the Amalfi coast or a villa in Tuscany, and we book the two together so both crews work to one timetable.
6Can I take my dog to Rome on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and the journey needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old, an Animal Health Certificate issued within ten days of entry and a signed declaration. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
