Hire a Private Jet to Gabon, Central Africa

Gabon is a central African nation on the Gulf of Guinea, one of the most prosperous countries in sub-Saharan Africa by GDP per capita, built on substantial offshore oil and gas reserves, manganese mining and one of the largest expanses of tropical rainforest remaining on the continent. The capital Libreville is the political, commercial and aviation hub of the country, and private jet charter demand to Gabon is generated primarily by the international energy sector - Total Energies, Shell, Perenco, Maurel and Prom and their contractor network all maintain significant operations in Gabon's offshore Corisco Bay fields, and the oil industry generates consistent, year-round private aviation traffic between European capitals and Libreville. Port-Gentil, the operational centre of Gabon's petroleum industry, lies 81 nautical miles to the south and has its own smaller airport serving the offshore platform support industry. Private jet charter flights to Gabon use Leon M'Ba International Airport in Libreville, regularly arranged from London and other UK airports. Equatorial Guinea is just 202 nautical miles to the north-west, and Cameroon lies 214 nautical miles to the north-east, making Libreville a natural hub for Central African energy sector itineraries.

Leon M'Ba International Airport (LBV / FOOL), named after Gabon's first president, is located approximately 12 km north-west of Libreville's city centre. The airport has a single paved runway (16/34) of 3,000 metres with ILS, accommodating all jet categories. Four FBO and ground handling operators serve private aviation on site. The airport is an Airport of Entry with customs and immigration available, and operates as Gabon's main international gateway. A landing permit may be required for certain aircraft operators and registrations - we confirm and manage this for every booking. UTC+1 (West Africa Time) applies year-round with no daylight saving. For your ultimate comfort, we arrange chauffeured transfers from Leon M'Ba Airport to Libreville, to Port-Gentil (by connecting flight or helicopter) or to any destination across Gabon.

Key Information:

  • Typical flight time from London to Libreville: around 7 hours 20 minutes;
  • Private jet charter prices: from 52000 GBP;
  • Airport: Leon M'Ba International Airport (LBV / FOOL), 12 km from Libreville;
  • Runway: 3,000 m, ILS, suitable for all jet categories;
  • Port-Gentil (oil industry hub): 81 nm south, reachable by connecting flight or helicopter;
  • Equatorial Guinea (Malabo): 202 nm north-west - natural Central African circuit;
  • Landing permit may be required - managed for every booking;
  • Most popular aircraft: Challenger 650, Global 6000 and Gulfstream G450;
  • Available departures from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

The destination draws private aviation clients primarily from the international energy sector. Gabon's offshore petroleum industry - centred on the Corisco Bay fields and the Rabi-Kounga onshore field - has been in production since the 1970s and remains a significant contributor to the country's economy. Total Energies is the largest operator, with Shell, Perenco and a network of service companies and contractors providing additional demand. Senior executives visiting from London, Paris, The Hague and other European energy capitals travel regularly for operational reviews, partner meetings and site inspections. Gabon also has significant manganese mining operations (Compagnie Miniere de l'Ogooue, or Comilog, operates one of the world's largest manganese mines at Moanda), generating additional corporate travel. Government and diplomatic travel is a further component of private aviation demand. Nigeria (Lagos, 518 nm north) and Equatorial Guinea (Malabo, 202 nm) are the most common extension points for Central and West African energy sector circuits.

Private jet charter prices to Gabon start from approximately 52000 GBP for heavy jets from London on the ~3,100 nautical mile sector. The final charter cost depends on the selected aircraft, departure airport, passenger numbers and any additional services requested.

Prices for the private jet flights to Gabon

At approximately 3,100 nautical miles from London, Gabon is within comfortable non-stop range of the Challenger 650 and longer-range aircraft. This is a more accessible sector than Djibouti or Lesotho, and the Challenger 650 - with its 4,000 nm range - handles the London to Libreville sector comfortably without a fuel stop, making it the most popular aircraft for this route.

A landing permit may be required for certain aircraft operators, registrations or flight types at Libreville. We confirm this requirement at the booking stage and manage the permit application where needed. Gabon is a sovereign state with its own visa and entry requirements for UK citizens - we advise clients to confirm current visa requirements with the Gabonese Embassy before travel, as requirements can change. Overflight permits for the routing over the Sahara and Central Africa are managed as standard for every booking.

Port-Gentil, 81 nautical miles south, is the operational hub of Gabon's petroleum industry. Clients visiting both Libreville and Port-Gentil can connect by a short domestic flight or by helicopter; we arrange this as part of the overall itinerary. Port-Gentil Airport (POG) has a shorter runway and handles smaller aircraft categories - charter connecting from Libreville is the standard approach for energy sector clients visiting the offshore support base.

Below are the approximate prices for the flights performed this year:

  1. from London to Libreville, 12 passengers, by Challenger 650 - 102000 EUR;
  2. from London to Libreville, 13 passengers, by Global 6000 - 118000 EUR;
  3. from London Farnborough to Libreville, 12 passengers, by Gulfstream G450 - 108000 EUR;

Leon M'Ba International Airport (IATA: LBV, ICAO: FOOL), named after Gabon's first president Leon M'Ba, is located approximately 12 km north-west of Libreville on the coast of the Komo Estuary. The airport is co-located with a French military installation, reflecting the historic French security presence in Gabon. It has a single paved runway (16/34) of 3,000 metres with ILS, accommodating all jet categories. Four FBO and ground handling operators serve private aviation. The airport is an Airport of Entry with customs and immigration on site. A landing permit may be required for certain aircraft operators and registrations - we confirm this at the booking stage. Operational handling at Libreville (LBV)

Leon M'Ba Airport's private aviation is handled through four FBO and ground handling operators. The airport's experience with international corporate traffic from the energy sector means handling is professional and responsive to advance coordination requests, although the overall infrastructure is more modest than a major European hub.

Landing permits for Gabon may be required depending on aircraft operator type and registration. We check and obtain these as part of every booking. Overflight permits for the routing from the UK - typically over France, Spain or the Canary Islands and then along the West African coast - are managed as standard. UK citizens require a visa for Gabon; the current requirement should be confirmed with the Gabonese Embassy or through our operations team before booking. No Schengen or EU framework applies - Gabon is an independent sovereign state with its own immigration and customs procedures. UTC+1 year-round means the time difference from the UK is always 1 or 2 hours depending on UK summer time.

Flying to Gabon with your pet

Pet travel to Gabon is possible on private jets with the animal in the cabin, but Gabon has its own pet import requirements as an independent state outside the EU framework. Key requirements:

  • Health certificate: official veterinary health certificate endorsed by the UK competent authority, typically within 10 days of travel.

We recommend starting pet documentation at least 4-6 weeks before travel to Gabon and confirming current requirements directly. Our team can advise on the process as part of every booking.

Gabon - destination overview

Gabon is one of the more surprising countries in sub-Saharan Africa: a nation of only 2.3 million people that possesses the highest forested land coverage of any country in Africa (approximately 88% of its territory), substantial offshore oil wealth that has given it a GDP per capita well above the African average, and a tradition of political stability and French-aligned governance that made it a predictable operating environment for international energy companies for more than five decades. The country straddles the equator on the west coast of Central Africa, bordered by Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon to the north and the Republic of the Congo to the south and east.

The petroleum sector has dominated Gabon's economy since the 1960s, when offshore discoveries in the Gulf of Guinea began the country's transformation from a timber-exporting colonial territory into an oil state. Total Energies (formerly Total) has been the largest operator since the early years, with Shell, Perenco, Maurel and Prom and numerous service company contractors operating across the offshore fields and the onshore Rabi-Kounga field in the south. The offshore platforms of the Corisco Bay - visible from Libreville on clear days - are supplied from Port-Gentil, the operational capital of Gabon's petroleum industry, with helicopter operations connecting the city to the platforms around the clock.

Beyond oil, Gabon has the world's second largest manganese reserves, mined at Moanda in the south-eastern interior by Comilog (Compagnie Miniere de l'Ogooue), a subsidiary of Eramet. The Trans-Gabonais railway connects Moanda to the port of Owendo near Libreville, and manganese is Gabon's second most important export. Timber from the country's vast rainforest is a third pillar of the export economy, now more tightly regulated as Gabon has positioned itself as a leader in tropical forest conservation - a positioning supported by significant international funding from the UK, Norway and the European Union.

Libreville itself is a compact, French-influenced city on the Komo Estuary, with the characteristic infrastructure of an oil-wealth African capital: air-conditioned hotels, international restaurants, a diplomatic quarter and a sharp contrast between the expatriate and elite Gabonese quarters and the popular neighbourhoods that house the majority of the population. The Lopé National Park in the interior - a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its combination of savannah and rainforest biodiversity and rock art - is the most accessible of Gabon's national parks and draws a small but dedicated ecotourism visitor base.

Where to stay in Gabon - hotels in Libreville

Libreville's hotel offer is oriented towards the international business and diplomatic community, with the best options in the Quartier Louis and along the seafront boulevard. A selection of well-known properties:

  • Radisson Blu Hotel, Libreville - the flagship international hotel in Libreville, a five-star property on the seafront with pool, spa, multiple restaurants and strong business facilities. Approximately 25 minutes from Leon M'Ba Airport.
  • Hotel Tropicana - a well-regarded mid-range property popular with the energy sector community, with good business services and central location. Around 25 minutes from the airport.
  • Nomad Hotel Libreville - a contemporary business hotel with reliable standards and good connectivity, favoured by the international corporate community. Around 25 minutes from the airport.
  • Mbolo Hotel - a comfortable option in the residential quartier, used by longer-stay visitors to the city. Around 25 minutes from the airport.
  • Hotels in Port-Gentil - for clients visiting the oil industry hub, Port-Gentil has a small number of practical hotels serving the energy sector community, including the Gamba Hotel and several guesthouses used by contractor personnel.

Our team can coordinate a chauffeured transfer from Leon M'Ba Airport to your hotel in Libreville and arrange domestic connections to Port-Gentil or other Gabonese destinations.

Gabon private jet charter - FAQ

How long is a private jet flight from London to Gabon?
A non-stop flight from London to Libreville takes around 6 hours 50 minutes to 7 hours 20 minutes depending on the aircraft. The Challenger 650 and Global 6000 are the most commonly chosen aircraft, both capable of the sector non-stop from London.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet to Gabon?
Prices generally start from around 52000 GBP for heavy jets from London. The ~3,100 nautical mile sector is within non-stop range of the Challenger 650, making it more accessible than longer African destinations requiring fuel stops.

Is a landing permit required for private jets at Libreville?
A landing permit may be required depending on aircraft operator type and registration. We confirm the requirement for each specific booking and manage the permit application as part of our standard service. Advance booking of at least 48-72 hours is advisable.

Do UK citizens need a visa for Gabon?
Yes. UK citizens require a visa to enter Gabon. The current requirements should be confirmed with the Gabonese Embassy before travel, as entry requirements can change. We advise clients to check the UK FCDO guidance on Gabon and apply for the appropriate visa well before departure.

Can I visit both Libreville and Port-Gentil on one charter?
Yes. Port-Gentil, the oil industry hub, is 81 nautical miles south of Libreville. A domestic connecting flight (approximately 45 minutes) or helicopter transfer (approximately 30 minutes) connects the two cities. We arrange the domestic connection as part of the overall itinerary for energy sector clients visiting both locations.

Can I travel with my pet to Gabon?
Pet travel to Gabon requires advance documentation including a health certificate and potentially an import permit from the Gabonese veterinary authorities. We recommend confirming the current requirements at least 4-6 weeks before travel. Requirements differ from the EU AHC framework.

When is the best time to visit Gabon?
Gabon has an equatorial climate with high humidity year-round. The main dry seasons are June to September (the grand saison seche) and December to January. The dry season is generally better for travel, particularly for ecotourism visits to the national parks. For energy sector visitors, travel is driven by operational schedules rather than season.
