private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Courchevel depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated based on the following data: departure from London Heathrow Airport, Embraer Legacy 600 Jet, two passengers. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Courchevel?

This is the one question where Courchevel behaves differently from every other destination on our site, so it is worth answering precisely. A business jet does not fly to Courchevel. It flies to the valley, most often Chambery, and a helicopter covers the last twenty minutes up to the altiport in the resort itself. The table below shows both legs and what they add up to, door of the aircraft to the snow.

From Jet leg Flying time Helicopter Total
London Cessna Citation XLS+
to Chambery
1 h 00 min 20 min about 1 h 40 min
Birmingham Cessna Citation XLS+
to Chambery
1 h 10 min 20 min about 1 h 50 min
Bristol Embraer Phenom 300E

1 h 10 min 20 min about 1 h 50 min
Manchester Pilatus PC-24

Edinburgh Learjet 60 XR

1 h 30 min 20 min about 2 h 10 min
Belfast Embraer Legacy 500

Glasgow Bombardier Challenger 350

If the helicopter cannot fly

Mountain flying needs visual conditions, and low cloud grounds the rotary leg while the jet lands in the valley without difficulty. The road from Chambery takes about an hour and twenty minutes, from Geneva two and a half to three hours, longer on a Saturday. We book a car for the same journey on every Courchevel charter and release it once the helicopter lifts, so the plan never depends on the weather being kind.

Actual timings move with the aircraft, the wind and, on this route, the rotary slot at the top. Give us your dates and passenger count and a broker will build the two legs into one schedule with the transfer times attached.

Private jet flights to Courchevel from Europe

A large share of the resort’s winter arrivals never crosses the Channel. Lyon and Geneva are the two obvious gateways, Turin sits on the Italian side of the massif, and the Riviera sends a steady stream north in January and February. On these routes the jet leg is short and the helicopter is the longer half of the journey, which is why the totals cluster more tightly than the map suggests:

Route Aircraft Journey Price, all-in one way
Lyon - Courchevel Cessna Citation M2

Why Geneva is not automatically the cheapest way in

– Geneva sits closer to Courchevel than Turin does, but the helicopter leg from Geneva runs around thirty minutes against twenty from Chambery, and rotary time is the expensive part of an Alpine arrival. On paper the shortest jet is not always the cheapest trip;

– Season swamps everything else. Christmas week, the first week of January and the February school holidays are the three peaks, and Saturday is changeover day across the whole of Savoie. Book five to eight weeks out for those dates. Outside them, and especially in late March, one-way empty legs into the Alpine gateways appear regularly.

Any other European city can be priced the same way. Tell us where you are starting and how many are travelling, and we will quote the jet and the helicopter as one movement rather than two invoices.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6500 business jets (about 3500 in Europe and 3000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can’t post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. The following jets currently operate in Courchevel:

Turboprops

The cheapest way into the valley and the only fixed-wing class that operates at the altiport itself, in the hands of crews holding the mountain qualification.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 8 seatsfrom £1,300/h
Beechcraft King Air 250 · 7 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Cessna 208 Caravan · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,500/h

Light jets

Where most Courchevel bookings land. A family of four or five is in Chambery inside an hour from London and on the snow twenty minutes later.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ2+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,200/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £2,900/h

Super-midsize jets

Chosen for luggage rather than legroom. Boards, boot bags and a chalet fortnight fill a light jet hold long before the last passenger is aboard.

Pilatus PC-24 · 8 seatsfrom £3,200/h
Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £3,700/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 500 · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h

Heavy jets

For chalet parties arriving as one group. Note that a bigger jet does not shorten the helicopter leg, so it usually means two rotary rotations up to the resort.

Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,150/h
Embraer Legacy 650 · 13 seatsfrom £4,500/h
Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom £5,100/h
Gulfstream G450 · 16 seatsfrom £5,000/h

Ultra-long range

For guests reaching the Alps from the Gulf or the United States. These aircraft land at Geneva or Lyon, and the mountain leg is flown separately.

Bombardier Global Express · 19 seatsfrom £5,500/h
Dassault Falcon 8X · 18 seatsfrom £6,000/h
Bombardier Global 6500 · 17 seatsfrom £6,200/h
Gulfstream G650 · 19 seatsfrom £6,800/h

Business aviation airports in Courchevel

Courchevel has its own airfield, and it is the most talked-about strip in Europe. The altiport sits at 2,008 m inside the resort, a few minutes from Courchevel 1850, and it is the reason this destination needs explaining rather than simply pricing.

The honest answer about landing a jet in Courchevel

Chartered business jets do not use the altiport. The runway is a third the length of a normal one, it climbs at nearly nineteen per cent, there is no instrument approach and no possibility of going around if an approach goes wrong. Pilots need a specific mountain qualification simply to land there. What does operate are small turboprops with certified crews and, above all, helicopters, which account for the large majority of movements in the peak weeks. If you have been offered a chartered Falcon or Citation directly into Courchevel, the flight that will actually take place is a jet into the valley and a rotary leg up. Better to know that at the enquiry stage than at the aircraft steps.

So the practical question is not whether you fly to Courchevel, but which valley gateway suits your trip. Four are used regularly, and the choice changes the price more than the aircraft does:

Chambery (CMF)
the closest gateway, about 1 h 20 by road. Business aviation terminal, but daytime operation and demanding mountain approaches of its own
20 min by air
Geneva (GVA)
round-the-clock operation and the widest choice of aircraft, about 2 h 30 to 3 h by road. The default for night arrivals and long-range jets
30 min by air
Grenoble (GNB)
south of the massif, about 1 h 30 by road, quieter on peak Saturdays
30 min by air
Lyon (LYS)
the long-haul gateway of the region, about 3 h by road, used when the aircraft is arriving from outside Europe
40 min by air

business aviation

The season, and when to book

– Three peaks dominate: Christmas week, the first week of January and the February school holidays. For those dates book five to eight weeks ahead, and earlier still if you want a Saturday;

– Saturday is changeover day across Savoie. A midweek arrival is easier to arrange, cheaper, and the helicopter waits for you rather than the other way round;

– March is the quiet recommendation. The snow at 1,850 m is often at its best, the resort is calmer, and both aircraft and rotary availability loosen noticeably.

Courchevel itself is four villages, from Le Praz up through 1550 and 1650 to 1850, and all of them sit inside the Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world. The altiport is the first mountain airfield in France to have been opened to international traffic, which is why it appears on flight plans at all, and why the resort feels closer to Europe than its altitude suggests.

One administrative note. Britain sits outside Schengen, so there is a border to cross, and it is crossed in the valley rather than in the mountains: the check happens beside the aircraft at Chambery or Geneva, usually while the bags are being moved to the helicopter. British passports need no visa for a ski week.

Flying to Courchevel with a dog or a cat

France asks nothing unusual of an animal arriving from Britain, and the way home is the ordinary EU route with no blood test and no waiting period. Courchevel adds one wrinkle that other French destinations do not: the last leg of the journey is usually a helicopter, and that has to be agreed before anything is booked.

The paperwork is the familiar European set:

  • An ISO 11784/11785 microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination. In that order, or the vaccination does not count for travel;
  • A rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before entry, the animal being at least 12 weeks old when it was done;
  • An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian, issued within 10 days of entering the EU and valid for the return home for up to six months;
  • No more than five animals per owner, travelling with the owner as a non-commercial movement;
  • Praziquantel from a French vet 24 to 120 hours before landing back in Britain, entered with the date and the product. Dogs only; cats are exempt.

What is different about bringing a dog here

– The helicopter operator has to agree first. A rotary cabin is small and loud, and policies differ between companies. We settle this at the quote stage rather than at the apron, and where the answer is no, the dog and one passenger travel up by car while the rest fly;

– Altitude and cold are real at 1,850 m. Short-coated breeds, puppies and older dogs need a coat and shorter outings, and paws take a beating from grit and packed snow. Resort vets are used to this and appointments are easy midweek;

– The worming dose for the trip home has to be given in France inside the 24 to 120 hour window. We book it with a practice in the resort or down in Moutiers and time it against your departure.

Nothing travels in a hold and no weight limit applies on the jet leg, so the size of the dog changes the choice of helicopter rather than the choice of aircraft. Requirements for other species are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs

Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way (for example, when the passenger flies from England to Courchevel). After the flight, the jet returns to its home base (for example, to Luton or Farnborough) empty. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.

It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing

Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.

We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.

Main advantages of this service:

  • All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
  • You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
  • No baggage restrictions;
  • Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
  • Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.

Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter

On this page the helicopter is not an upgrade, it is the aircraft that actually delivers you. In the peak weeks rotary movements make up the large majority of traffic at the altiport, and almost all of them are transfers from the four valley airports. The comparison that matters is not with a limousine but with the mountain road, which in February carries every transfer van in Savoie on the same Saturday.

To Courchevel altiport, by air against by road

From Chambery
roughly 1 h 20 by road
about 20 min
From Grenoble
roughly 1 h 30 by road
about 30 min
From Geneva
2 h 30 to 3 h by road, longer on changeover Saturdays
30 to 35 min
From Lyon
roughly 3 h by road
about 40 min
To Megeve
close to 2 h by road
about 20 min
To Monaco
over 6 h by road
about 1 h

From the altiport you can also cross to Meribel, Val Thorens, Val d’Isere and Tignes in minutes, which is what makes a multi-resort week possible without spending it in a car. The flight itself is worth looking up from: the Vanoise massif, the Grande Casse glaciers and, on a clear morning, Mont Blanc on the northern horizon.

Two constraints to plan around

– Luggage. A helicopter carries a fraction of what the jet brought, and ski bags are the difficult shape. The usual arrangement is soft bags with the passengers and hard cases by road, at the chalet an hour or two behind you;

– Daylight and cloud. The altiport works visually and in daylight only, so a late arrival into the valley means a road transfer whatever the weather is doing. We plan the jet timing around the rotary window rather than the other way round.

Types that work in this terrain:

Airbus H125 / AS350 Ecureuil
the classic Alpine single, most altiport arrivals are flown on this type
5 seats
Airbus H130
quieter cabin and more room for bags, popular with families
6 seats
Agusta AW109 Grand New
fast twin for the Geneva and Lyon runs
5 seats
Airbus H135
twin engine, also the mountain rescue standard in the French Alps
6 seats
Airbus H145
the larger twin, used when a chalet party moves in one rotation
8 seats

We book the jet and the helicopter as a single movement, so the rotary crew has your arrival time before you leave Britain, and the transfer is waiting airside rather than being chased once you land.

Courchevel trips from the winter diary: six recent bookings

How the two-leg journey behaves in practice. Drawn from the desk notes of recent seasons, with surnames shortened to initials and some particulars altered.

PEAK WEEK · CHALET PARTY

The R. family: New Year, booked in early November

Farnborough - Chambery + helicopter, Citation Latitude, 1 h 05 + 20 min · 8 pax

Eight people and a fortnight of luggage over the New Year, which is the tightest week of the Alpine year in both aircraft and rotary availability. Booked nine weeks out for that reason. The helicopter went up in two rotations, four passengers each, with the hard ski cases following by road and reaching the chalet before the second lift landed. Total door to chalet: a little under five hours from west London.

EXPECTATION · CORRECTED

Mr S. T.: the client who wanted the jet in the resort

London Luton - Chambery + helicopter, Phenom 300E · 4 pax

He had been quoted, by someone else, a Citation directly into Courchevel altiport. We explained why that flight does not happen: 537 m of runway on an eighteen per cent slope, no instrument approach, no go-around. He was annoyed for about a minute and grateful afterwards, because the alternative he had been sold would have collapsed on the day. Jet to Chambery, twenty minutes up, and he has booked the same way twice since.

WEATHER · ROAD PLAN B

Mrs A. C.: low cloud on the mountain, car already waiting

Bristol - Chambery, Cessna Citation XLS+, 1 h 10 min · 5 pax

A February arrival with cloud sitting in the Tarentaise. The rotary leg was cancelled by the operator ninety minutes before landing, which is the correct call and one we plan for on every booking here. The car was already at Chambery, the drive took an hour and forty in Saturday traffic, and the family were on the slopes the next morning as intended. Nobody made a decision in a terminal.

MULTI-RESORT · WEEK

A group of four friends: three valleys in five days

Chambery base, helicopter hops, AS350 · 4 pax

A week built around flying rather than driving: into Chambery, up to Courchevel, then short rotary hops across to Val Thorens and Val d’Isere on separate days, and out from Geneva at the end. Each mountain leg took ten to fifteen minutes. Done by road the same itinerary would have burned the best part of two skiing days in a minibus.

FAMILY · DOG

Mr and Mrs H. B.: a labrador and a helicopter question

Birmingham - Chambery, Citation CJ2+, 1 h 10 min · 3 pax + labrador

The paperwork was routine French. The part that needed settling first was the helicopter: the operator we normally use for this route does not carry large dogs, so we found one that does before the trip was confirmed. The praziquantel for the flight home was booked with a vet in Moutiers for the Thursday, comfortably inside the window before a Saturday departure.

MARCH · VALUE

Ms P. L.: the same trip, thirty per cent less

London - Chambery + helicopter, HondaJet Elite · 4 pax

A client who had always flown at half-term and asked what late March looked like. Same aircraft, same route, materially lower price, better snow at 1,850 m and a helicopter that was not competing with forty other transfers that morning. The only compromise was the school calendar, which in her case did not apply.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Courchevel

1Can a private jet land at Courchevel?

Not a chartered one. The altiport has 537 m of runway on an 18.6 per cent slope at 2,008 m, with no instrument approach and no go-around procedure, and pilots need a specific mountain qualification. Small turboprops with certified crews and, above all, helicopters use it. Charter clients fly a jet into the valley and finish by helicopter.

2How long does it take to get from London to Courchevel by private jet?

About an hour to Chambery on a light or midsize jet, then roughly twenty minutes by helicopter to the altiport, so a little over an hour and a half of travelling in total. From Bristol or Birmingham allow around one hour fifty, from Edinburgh or Glasgow closer to two and a quarter.

3How much does it cost to fly privately to Courchevel?

From about 8,500 EUR one way out of London on a turboprop and 9,200 to 12,200 EUR on light and midsize jets, rising to roughly 17,600 EUR from Glasgow on a super-midsize aircraft. Those figures are all-in: the jet into the valley and the helicopter up to the resort. From Lyon or Geneva the same journey starts around 5,600 to 6,700 EUR.

4Which airport should I fly into for Courchevel?

Chambery is closest, about twenty minutes by helicopter and an hour and twenty by road. Geneva operates around the clock and takes any aircraft size, which makes it the choice for night arrivals and long-range jets, at thirty minutes by air. Grenoble and Lyon are the other regular gateways. We choose it with you when the aircraft and timing are agreed.

5When should I book for the ski season?

Christmas week, the first week of January and the February school holidays are the three peaks, and Saturday is changeover day across Savoie: five to eight weeks ahead for those dates. Midweek arrivals are easier and cheaper, and late March often combines the best snow at altitude with far better availability.
