Private jet charter in Mexico
A flight from Britain to Mexico is a full day in the air in a business jet: about 10 h 20 min to Toluca, the airport that serves Mexico City, in a Gulfstream G550, and a little less to the Caribbean coast at Cancún. Every Mexican quote starts with three questions: which airport, because the capital's main field is closed to business aircraft; which aircraft, because the distance leaves little room; and which permit, because private and charter flights are licensed differently. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In Mexico that also covers the handler booked before the aircraft leaves Britain, the ramp paperwork that Mexican officials ask to see in the original, and ground transport that is arranged in advance and not hailed at the kerb.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Mexico depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Farnborough, a Gulfstream G550 to Toluca (Mexico City), nonstop, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Mexico?
Mexico City keeps Central time, six hours behind Greenwich and, since daylight saving was ended nationally, seven behind British Summer Time. Cancún is one hour ahead of the capital, and Los Cabos one hour behind it. A morning departure from Britain therefore lands around midday in the capital. These are the sectors from London Farnborough on a Gulfstream G550, gate to gate:
4,455 nautical miles, the Caribbean coast and the Riviera Mayaabout 9 h 10 min
4,723 nautical miles, the industrial north and the business capitalabout 9 h 45 min
5,015 nautical miles, the airport for Mexico City, on the high plateauabout 10 h 20 min
5,094 nautical miles, the west, in tequila and mariachi countryabout 10 h 25 min
5,156 nautical miles, the Pacific coast, on the Bay of Banderasabout 10 h 35 min
5,189 nautical miles, the tip of Baja California, the longest of the sixabout 10 h 40 min
Landing at midday, thin air on the way home
An 08:00 take-off from Farnborough in the summer lands at Toluca at about 11:20 local time, and at about 12:20 when Britain is on winter time, which leaves an afternoon for meetings once the drive into the city is done. The return suits a night flight: a 22:00 departure from Toluca puts the aircraft on the ground in Britain at about 15:20 in the summer and 14:20 in the winter. Prevailing winds are against you on the way out, so the westbound sector is the longer of the two.
The way home is planned with care. Toluca stands 2,580 metres above the sea, and the thin air reduces climb performance and payload on a hot afternoon. The runway of 4,200 metres gives the margin, and weight and fuel are worked out in advance.
Monterrey is 466 nautical miles shorter than Los Cabos, which is 55 min in the air and £12,750 on the quote, so a Mexican price always names the airport before the aircraft. The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– Only the ultra-long-range class flies this route nonstop, and Mexico City is at the edge of it. A Bombardier Global 6000 is published at 6,000 nautical miles, which leaves a margin of about 985 nautical miles on the crossing to Toluca, so the capital is quoted on the Gulfstream G550 (6,750, with about 1,735 in hand) or the G650ER (7,500). The Global 6000 carries the Caribbean coast and Monterrey. Anything smaller stops on the way, and a stop adds time, a landing fee and a handler, quoted as a separate line. The longest sector in the table is 5,121 nautical miles;
– The arrival airport moves the price by about 16 percent. A Global 6000 from Manchester to Cancún is about £23,050 less than a G550 from Farnborough to Toluca, because the coast is nearer and the aircraft is cheaper by the hour. Every figure above is for the trip out, and a return the same week is quoted either as a second one-way sector or as a wait at the airport, whichever is cheaper.
Private jet flights within Mexico and to its neighbours

These are the sectors we are asked for, flown from Toluca, with the neighbours that clients combine with a Mexican trip:

Two limits on the internal sectors
– Domestic legs follow the permit the aircraft holds. Handler guidance describes an authorisation for private flights that the aviation authority, AFAC, issues for 180 days and ties to the declared crew, while a charter needs its own permit: one-shot permits are limited to five per operator, and a blanket permit takes at least 90 business days. A private leg stays private and a charter leg stays charter, and we confirm in writing which aircraft and operator may carry the party on;
– The neighbours are border crossings. Guatemala City is the nearest of the capitals in the table at 616 nautical miles, Panama City and Los Angeles are long sectors that move a light jet out of the picture, and Houston is the nearest American city at 688 nautical miles. An aircraft that comes back into Mexico from Central America, South America or the Caribbean must first stop at Cozumel or Tapachula for security and customs, even for fuel only, so the return leg carries that stop in its time and its price.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Mexico:
Ultra-long range
The class that crosses from Britain without a stop. The Gulfstream G550 is the working choice for Mexico City, with the G650ER and the Global 7500 when the party is large or the baggage heavy; the Global 6000 covers Cancún, Tulum, Cozumel and Monterrey with a comfortable margin.
Heavy jets
Large cabins with a range of about 4,000 to 5,000 nautical miles, which reach Mexico only with a stop that we plan on request. They suit long regional sectors such as Mexico City to Los Cabos.
Super-midsize
The class that flies most internal legs from Toluca, because it carries a full cabin out of an airport at 2,580 metres and still reaches Guadalajara or Monterrey in about an hour and a half.
Light jets
For Querétaro, Oaxaca and the hops between the Pacific resorts, where the sector is short and the cabin carries four to six people. In the thin air of the plateau the load is limited by the runway and the day's temperature, which the operator states in the quote.
Turboprops
The aircraft for short work on the ground in Mexico, such as the capital to Querétaro, not for the journey from London, which at turboprop speed would take several days of stops.

Because the aircraft that crosses the Atlantic is a heavy one and the airports of the plateau are high, a quote for a trip around Mexico often names two aircraft, and we say so at the first reply and not at the second.

Business aviation airports in Mexico
Mexico has one rule that decides most plans: the capital's airline airport is not for business jets, and the ones that are sit an hour or two away. After that the choice is between the plateau, where thin air governs the load, and the coasts, where the customs hours do:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Toluca Adolfo López Mateos TLC / MMTO |
about 16 km north-east of Toluca city and, by road, 1.5 to 2 hours from central Mexico City depending on traffic | The airport for business jets bound for the capital. One asphalt runway of 4,200 metres (15/33) at 2,580 metres above the sea, open round the clock, an airport of entry with customs on site, no slots and mandatory handling. Listed FBOs and handlers include Universal Aviation, Signature Flight Support, Jetex, ICCS and others, and private fuel trucks are available. Crew clearance takes about 25 minutes, and transient hangar space is short |
| Mexico City Benito Juárez MEX / MMMX |
inside the city | The main airline airport, and not an option for a business jet: handler guidance describes it as open only to scheduled commercial, government and diplomatic flights, with maintenance flights by prior permission. Wide-body aircraft need slots here and at Cancún. A private flight to the capital goes to Toluca |
| Mexico City Felipe Ángeles (AIFA) NLU / MMSM |
about 35 km north-north-east of the city | A joint civil and military airport with a concrete runway of 4,500 metres (04L/22R) at 2,246 metres above the sea. It is listed as an airport of entry with customs, with no slots and optional handling, and Manny, American Flight Support, ICCS and Pike Aviation are listed as agents. A second option when Toluca is full, and the one to ask about for the north of the valley |
| Cancún CUN / MMUN |
about 15 km south of the town and the hotel zone | The busiest leisure gateway: an asphalt runway of 3,500 metres (12R/30L) at sea level, open round the clock, with customs on site and the ASUR Cancún FBO listed beside several handlers. The airport is listed as slot-facilitated, so a request for parking goes in early in the high season, and handler guidance warns of customs queues of up to 40 minutes at peak times |
| Cozumel CZM / MMCZ |
about 2 km north-west of the town, on the island | A joint civil and military field with a 3,160 metre runway at sea level, listed as an airport of entry with no slots and optional handling. It is also the compulsory first stop for aircraft arriving from Central America, South America and the Caribbean, which is where security and customs are done |
| Tulum Felipe Carrillo Puerto TQO / MMTL |
about 20 km south-west of Tulum town | The airport at the southern end of the Riviera Maya, with a concrete runway of 3,700 metres at 20 metres above the sea and an Executive Aviation Terminal with its own lounges and dedicated general aviation facilities. Handling, fuel and customs arrangements are confirmed for the date |
| Los Cabos San José del Cabo SJD / MMSD |
about 14 km north-west of San José del Cabo, with Cabo San Lucas about 32 km west of that town | An asphalt runway of 3,000 metres (16/34) at 114 metres above the sea, customs on site, no slots and optional handling. The airport is listed with day hours of about 06:00 to 20:00 local time, and the PrimeSky executive terminal is listed from 07:00 to 20:00 on weekdays, with a hangar of 54,000 square feet, so arrival times are fixed against those hours |
| Puerto Vallarta Gustavo Díaz Ordaz PVR / MMPR |
about 7 km north-west of the town, on the Bay of Banderas | An asphalt runway of 3,100 metres (04/22) at 7 metres above the sea, open round the clock, an airport of entry with no slots. Aerotron is the FBO listed on the field, and handler guidance warns of customs queues of up to 40 minutes in the high season |
| Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla GDL / MMGL |
about 18 km south-south-east of the city | A runway of 4,000 metres (11R/29L) at 1,529 metres above the sea, open round the clock, with customs on site and no slots. Universal Aviation and Aerotron are listed as FBOs, and Guadalajara is one of the few airports with a limited amount of transient hangar space |
| Monterrey Mariano Escobedo MTY / MMMY |
about 30 km north-east of the city, in Apodaca | An asphalt runway of 3,000 metres (12/30) at 389 metres above the sea, open round the clock, an airport of entry with no slots. ICCS operates an FBO on the field and Universal Aviation is listed as supervising agent. The airport of the business north |
Five points settle most Mexican arrivals before a quote goes out:
Altitude: the first number
Toluca stands at 2,580 metres, AIFA at 2,246 and Mexico City itself at about 2,240. Thin air reduces climb performance and payload, so the weight of the passengers, the baggage and the fuel for the next sector are checked against the runway before the quote is issued.
Private and charter are different
A private flight needs an authorisation tied to the declared crew, and a charter needs its own AFAC permit. Handler guidance says the authority carries out random ramp checks on foreign flights, aimed at illegal charters, so the originals stay on board.
Clearance on the ramp
Customs, immigration and quarantine are cleared on every international arrival, even a technical stop, and everyone gets off with the baggage. The handler fills in the customs cards and escorts the party. At Toluca, guidance describes clearance at a ramp used by all the FBOs and not inside each of them.
Parking and hangars
Parking is usually unrestricted, but transient hangar space is generally unavailable, with limited space at Toluca, Guadalajara and a few other airports.
Ground transport
Handlers advise pre-paid, vetted cars with a named driver and plate, and a strong preference for them on the road between Toluca and Mexico City.
Arriving from Britain: passports, customs and what to carry
Mexico is outside the European Union and the Schengen area, and the entry rules for a British citizen are short. The border is dealt with at the first Mexican airport where you land, which is why that airport has to be an airport of entry with customs, and why a quiet strip on the coast does not qualify.
British citizens do not need a visa as tourists and receive an entry stamp that shows the number of days allowed. The passport must be valid for the stay, and the Mexican Embassy in the UK recommends 180 days of validity, the longest tourist stay. Officers can ask for a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and proof of fundsevery passenger, children included
Visitors to Quintana Roo, the state of Cancún, Tulum and Cozumel, pay an entry tax online before or during the stay and may be asked for proof of payment when leaving. A departure tax can also apply when leaving by air, and the handler explains how it is settled on a private flightQuintana Roo and departure
passengers, crew and baggage all go through customs, immigration and quarantine, with the baggage screened and sometimes opened, even on a 30 minute stop. The crew is cleared after the passengers, which takes about 25 minutes at Toluca and 30 to 45 minutes at most other airportsin the building and on the apron
vaping devices are prohibited in any form, and a prescription does not change that for products with CBD, THC or nicotine; fresh meat and meat products are restricted; firearms need advance information and a permit from the Mexican Army, usually through a hunting club. Rubbish is separated into organic and other waste before landingcheck before packing
Papers for the aircraft and the way home
The aircraft has its own folder: certificates of registration and airworthiness, worldwide and Mexican insurance, pilot licences and medical certificates, which the operator sends to the handler before the flight. International flight plans are stamped by the aviation authority and the customs officers before air traffic control accepts them, the plan is filed about 30 minutes before departure, and the captain signs it. Unpaid air navigation fees can ground an aircraft until they are settled, and a Friday afternoon arrival is the risky one.
Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, while most other nationalities do.

Which airport for which part of Mexico
The arrival airport follows from one address: the hotel in Polanco, the villa in the Riviera Maya, the marina at the end of Baja. These are the usual pairings:
the capital stands at about 2,240 metres and the airport for business jets is Toluca, 1.5 to 2 hours from the city by road. AIFA, to the north-east, is the second option, and the airline airport inside the city is closed to business aircraftToluca
Cancún is 15 km from the hotel zone and the natural airport for the strip of resorts to the south. Tulum has its own executive aviation terminal for the south end of the coast, and Cozumel is the airport of the islandCancún, Tulum or Cozumel
San José del Cabo airport serves both towns and the 32 km resort corridor between them, with the PrimeSky executive terminal on the field. Cabo Pulmo, a national park known for its coral reefs, lies on the same coastLos Cabos
the airport is 7 km from the town on the Bay of Banderas, and the coast beyond it is reached by road or by helicopterPuerto Vallarta
the second city of the interior, 18 km from the airport, with tequila and mariachi around itGuadalajara
the business capital of the north, with its industry, its headquarters and the wealthy suburb of San Pedro Garza GarcíaMonterrey
Where the travel advice draws its lines
The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to parts of Mexico, among them Tijuana and Tecate in Baja California, Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, Michoacán, Colima and Guerrero, parts of Guanajuato and Jalisco, and the strip along the Guatemalan border in Chiapas. The advice names exceptions inside several of these states, among them Mazatlán, Morelia, Pátzcuaro, Manzanillo and Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa. Baja California Sur is not affected, and the advice does not list Quintana Roo, Yucatán or Mexico City. The cities and airports on this page lie outside the listed areas, and we check the advice again for the date of the trip and for the road to any villa or lodge.
Mexico City, the coasts and the north: what our clients go for
Mexico City is where the business is, and a good part of the leisure. The city has about nine million residents and the metropolitan area more than twenty-one million, at a height of about 2,240 metres, on soft lakebed clay that makes tremors a fact of life. The historic centre is a World Heritage Site together with Xochimilco, and clients ask for Polanco, Roma and Condesa. Most trips are two or three days of meetings, with a quiet first evening because of the height.
Cancún draws the other half. The city has close to 900,000 residents and a hotel zone that juts into the Caribbean, with the Riviera Maya running south from it. The dry season runs from November to April, hurricane season runs from June to November, and seaweed washes onto the beaches in the summer months.
Los Cabos is two towns joined by a resort corridor 32 km long: San José del Cabo, with its cobbled streets, and Cabo San Lucas, built around the marina, in about 320 sunny days a year.
Puerto Vallarta sits on the Bay of Banderas at the foot of the Sierra Madre, and Guadalajara, the second city of the interior, is the home of mariachi and tequila. Monterrey is the other business capital, where August highs average 36 degrees and some of the largest corporations in Latin America have their base.
The Mexican year: dry months, rains and hurricanes
Mexico has two seasons for most travellers, dry and wet, and the dates change with the coast. The high season for handlers runs from November to March:
the dry months in Mexico City, with December the driest, and on the Caribbean coast. Whales arrive off Los Cabos from January to March. The busy peaks are Christmas, New Year, Easter and the long weekendshigh season
the rains begin in Mexico City in May, Puerto Vallarta turns wet from mid-June, and the hurricane season opens in Juneshoulder
the rains peak: July in Mexico City and Guadalajara, August in Puerto Vallarta and September in Los Cabos. Seaweed reaches the beaches around Cancún in the summer monthswet season
the rains end in Mexico City in October and the hurricane season closes in November, just as the Grand Prix, the Day of the Dead and the first high-season bookings arrive togetherevents
The capital and the coast in one trip
Cancún can be reached nonstop: London Luton to Cancún on a Global 6000 is £121,100 one way. A trip that takes in Mexico City first lands the G550 at Toluca, leaves it there and adds a Challenger 350 to the coast, quoted as two lines and adding up to about £158,000. The first is the choice when the beach is the whole trip.
The Mexican calendar: whales, books and the Grand Prix
The dated events are few, and each pulls on a different airport:
Why the Grand Prix weekend decides the hangar
Parking at Toluca is at a premium that weekend, handlers stack aircraft closely, and overnight hangar space is short, especially for aircraft that are not based there. Handler guidance advises against housing passengers near Toluca, because the road to the event takes 1.5 to 2 hours, and hotels in the capital sell out. A client who wants the jet to wait for the race should say so at the first enquiry, and the quote then names the handler and the confirmed parking.

Flying to Mexico with a dog or a cat
A dog or cat travelling with its owner is an administrative job in Mexico and not a quarantine, and for once the way home is the easier half. Mexico's agricultural health service, SENASICA, inspects the animal and its documents at the point of entry, with a document check and a physical check on arrival, and issues the import certificate on the spot.
The one fact to read before you book
The way in is a short list of original papers. The animal needs a health certificate signed by a vet, stating that it was clinically healthy at the pre-travel inspection, with the details of the exporter and the importer and the date of the rabies vaccination, and proof of internal and external deworming. Published guides put the validity of the certificate at 10 to 15 days and the deworming window at 10 days or six months, so we ask the vet to date everything inside the shorter period. Rabies vaccination is required, and animals under three months are exempt. No blood test and no permit in advance are needed for a pet travelling with its owner. Without the papers the animal is held until a vet has examined, vaccinated and wormed it, at the owner's cost.
On the way home, Mexico is a listed country for travel to Britain, which makes the rule simpler than for an unlisted country. The animal needs a Great Britain pet health certificate issued no more than ten days before it enters Britain, and no rabies blood test and no three month wait. A microchip must be fitted before the rabies vaccination, and the vaccination must be at least 21 days old at entry. We confirm the entry point for the animal in writing before the flight.
- A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination;
- A rabies vaccination that is valid on entry and listed on the vaccination record;
- For the way in, a signed health certificate and the deworming record, with both dated close to the flight;
- For a dog on the way home, a tapeworm treatment by a vet not less than 24 hours and not more than five days before it arrives in Britain.
An animal that arrives in Britain without the right documents may be held in quarantine for up to four months. We tell the handler in advance, and the paperwork for the animal is confirmed in writing before the flight.
Requirements for rabbits, reptiles and the less usual species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a flight the operator has to make anyway, with the cabin empty, and sells at a discount. Few aircraft make the Atlantic crossing to Mexico, so the legs are rarer here than on a European corridor, and each one is a long sector with a large saving.
Where Mexican empty legs come from
– A Global 6000 or G550 that took a party out to Cancún or Los Cabos and has to return to its base in Britain without passengers;
– The weeks after Christmas and Easter, when operators bring their aircraft back from the resorts;
The operator owns the date, and a leg can vanish if the original booking moves, so a client with a window of several weeks has by far the best chance of a match. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Mexican empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK (Manchester) - Mexico (Cancún CUN) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £49,900 |
| Mexico (Cancún CUN) - UK (Southampton) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £50,550 |
| UK (London Luton) - Mexico (Tulum TQO) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £51,500 |
| Mexico (Monterrey MTY) - UK (Bristol) | Global 6000 | 13 seats | £52,900 |
| UK (Belfast City) - Mexico (Puerto Vallarta PVR) | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £58,250 |
| Mexico (Toluca TLC) - UK (London Farnborough) | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £59,600 |
| UK (London Biggin Hill) - Mexico (Toluca TLC) | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £59,900 |
| Mexico (Los Cabos SJD) - UK (Birmingham) | Gulfstream G550 | 16 seats | £60,800 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A G550 home from Toluca to Farnborough with sixteen seats comes to about £3,700 a head;
– Compare each line with the same sector in the price table above. An empty leg trades the choice of date for a lower price, and on this route a window of about a month is the least worth offering.

Helicopter charter
Helicopters in Mexico do short jobs that a car does badly: the airport to the capital past the traffic, the Cabo San Lucas marina from the airport, the beach towns of the Riviera Maya from Cancún. These are the transfers clients ask for, with times estimated from the straight-line distance between the points:
the airport for business jets to the middle of the capital, which is 1.5 to 2 hours by roadabout 20 min
the airport to the marina town at the western end of the corridorabout 20 min
the airport to the resort town on the Riviera Mayaabout 20 min
The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, so the real route can be different, and the operator confirms it for your date. Weather, wind, the load and the height of the departure point decide the rest. A landing at a hotel, a villa or a yacht club needs a site agreed in advance.

Mexican charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
MEXICO CITY · THE BUSINESS TRIP
Two directors and three days of meetings
Farnborough - Toluca, Gulfstream G550, about 10 h 20 min each way · 2 pax
Wheels up at eight, on the ground at Toluca around midday on the local clock, with the handler filling in the customs cards and a pre-paid car waiting for the long drive into the city. The aircraft stayed at the same airport until the return.
CANCÚN · CHRISTMAS WEEK
A family of eight over the holiday
London Luton - Cancún, Bombardier Global 6000, about 9 h 10 min · 8 pax
They asked about parking at the first enquiry, because the airport is slot-facilitated and Christmas is the strongest week of the year. Clearance took the 40 minutes that handlers warn about in the high season, and the aircraft waited ten days.
LOS CABOS · THE WHALE WEEKS
A couple and two friends in late January
Birmingham - Los Cabos, Gulfstream G550, about 10 h 30 min · 4 pax
The jet was timed to land inside the day hours of the airport and the executive terminal, and it went into the hangar for the week. The party watched the whales from a boat at Cabo San Lucas and flew home the following Sunday.
MEXICO CITY AND THE COAST · TWO AIRCRAFT
Six people and ten days across the country
London City - Toluca, G550, then Toluca - Puerto Vallarta, Challenger 350, about 10 h 20 min plus 1 h 15 min · 6 pax
The party cleared customs at Toluca, left the long-range jet there and flew on in a super-midsize to the Pacific coast. The domestic leg had its permit arranged before departure.
WITH THE DOG · SENASICA AND A BRITISH CERTIFICATE
A couple, a spaniel and a month on the Caribbean coast
Farnborough - Cancún, Bombardier Global 6000, about 9 h 10 min · 2 pax + dog
The vet dated the health certificate and the deworming record inside the same ten days and the dog was inspected on arrival. For the way home Mexico is a listed country, so there was no blood test, only the microchip and vaccination order, the British certificate and a tapeworm treatment a day or two before landing.
EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN
Toluca to Luton at short notice
Toluca - London Luton, Gulfstream G550 empty leg, about 10 h 20 min · 4 pax
The client named a ten day window and not a date, took the first Thursday that matched, and paid about £59,600, about two fifths of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Mexico
1How long does it take to fly to Mexico by private jet?
About 10 hours 20 minutes from London to Toluca, the airport for Mexico City, on a Gulfstream G550, around 9 hours 10 minutes to Cancún and about 10 hours 40 minutes to Los Cabos. Mexico City is six hours behind Greenwich all year, and seven behind British Summer Time.
2How much does a private jet to Mexico cost?
From about £141,850 one way from Farnborough to Toluca on a Gulfstream G550. Cancún from Manchester on a Global 6000 is about £118,800, Monterrey from Farnborough about £127,850, and a Gulfstream G650ER costs more per hour. Internal legs are far lower, with Toluca to Guadalajara from £6,800 on a Mexican-based jet.
3Which airport do private jets use for Mexico City?
Toluca, about 16 km north-east of Toluca city and 1.5 to 2 hours from central Mexico City by road. It has a runway of 4,200 metres, is open round the clock and has customs on site. The main airline airport is open only to scheduled commercial, government and diplomatic flights, and AIFA is the second option.
4What paperwork does a private flight to Mexico need?
British citizens do not need a visa as tourists and need a passport valid for the stay. The aircraft needs the right authorisation for the type of flight, an AFAC permit for a charter and an authorisation tied to the declared crew for a private flight, and every international arrival clears customs, immigration and quarantine at an airport of entry.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Mexico?
Yes. The animal needs a signed health certificate, a rabies vaccination and a deworming record, and is inspected by the Mexican agricultural health service on arrival. Mexico is a listed country for travel to Britain, so on the way home the animal needs a Great Britain pet health certificate, a microchip fitted before the rabies vaccination and, for a dog, a tapeworm treatment between 24 hours and five days before it lands in Britain.
6Can a private jet from London fly nonstop to Mexico City?
Yes, in the ultra-long-range class. Toluca is about 5,015 nautical miles from Farnborough, and a Gulfstream G550 is published at 6,750, so it flies the crossing with a margin. A Global 6000, published at 6,000, has less in hand, and most smaller jets stop on the way. The airport stands 2,580 metres above sea level, so the weight of the passengers, the baggage and the fuel for the next sector are checked before the quote is issued.
