Private jet charter in Kishinev

Chisinau is a flight of a little over three hours from London, and it is flown the long way round: west and south over Hungary and Romania, because the civil corridor into Moldovan airspace runs along the Romanian border. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that fact. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The airport has a 3,590 m runway and is listed as open round the clock, so the runway is never the question. The questions are the landing permit, the insurer and the fallback if the airspace is closed for a few hours, and a good broker answers all three before quoting a date.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Chisinau depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ flying nonstop to Chisinau by way of Hungary and Romania, and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Chisinau?

About 3 hours 20 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, close to 3 hours 30 minutes from Edinburgh in a Challenger 350, and two hours of clock difference to add on arrival, because Moldova keeps Eastern European Time. The distances below are measured along the track the aircraft actually flies, from the British field to Hungary, across Romania to the Iasi area and in to Chisinau from the west, not along the straight line on a globe. At 1,228 to 1,463 nautical miles, it is a long light-jet sector from the south of England and a job for a bigger cabin from Scotland.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you land at about twenty past ten by British time, which is twenty past twelve on the clock in Chisinau. The airport lies about 13 km south-east of the city, so a lunch table in the centre is realistic the same day. Passengers clear immigration and customs at the airport itself, and the handling agent receives the general declaration, the crew list and the passenger manifest before you land. Do not plan a same-day return unless you must: it is a three-hour sector each way, and the clock difference eats the evening.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four people with hand luggage, a light jet does the job. Three hours twenty in a CJ3+ is longer than most clients expect from a light cabin, so we say so before the quote, not after it;

– Past four, or with luggage for a week, or when you plan to bring cases of wine home, we quote a midsize alongside. On this route the hold and the headroom usually decide before the seat count does;

– A large cabin earns its place for a delegation that works in the air, for a party travelling as one group, or when Chisinau is one stop in a longer European loop. Runway length is not the issue: 3,590 m takes anything we send.

Private jet flights from Chisinau

Chisinau is a starting point for short Romanian and Central European sectors, and every one of them leaves to the west. The onward track is picked up over Romania, so even the sectors to Istanbul and Athens are measured by way of Bucharest. Typical one-way prices:

Onward from Chisinau: when the aircraft wins and when the car does

Iasi is only 58 nautical miles away on the chart, about 35 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, yet the road between the two cities is about 147 km and runs through the Sculeni border crossing. The hop is not a shortcut for an ordinary trip. It exists for the day the Chisinau airspace is shut and the party must be in Moldova by evening, and it works only if the Romanian airport has agreed in advance to clear a private arrival. Bucharest is 195 nautical miles away and about 445 km by road, which is a flight, not a drive. The Central European and south-east sectors are priced by the same rule as the rest of the page: distance along the track, plus the cost of positioning an aircraft that has to come back.

Before you accept a Moldovan quote

– Ask for the routing and the fallback in writing. A sound quote names the entry point into Moldovan airspace, the alternate airport in Romania and the way the party gets from there to Chisinau by road;

– Ask whether the operator has insurance for the Chisinau flight information region and the landing permit from the Moldovan Civil Aviation Authority, not just the paperwork for the departure. Some operators decline the sector, and a broker who does not ask this question is quoting you an aircraft that may never fly;

– Ask whether the legs are one booking. London to Chisinau, a few days in the country and home again is priced as a single trip with the aircraft kept for you, and it usually comes out below two separate one-way charters.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Chisinau:

Light jets, for up to four people who travel light

A long sector for a small cabin, flown happily by many clients and tolerated by others. Take it when the party is small and the budget is firm, and expect to hear from us if the luggage list grows.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for a comfortable three and a half hours

The sensible default for a party of five to eight. Standing room and a larger hold matter more here than on a two-hour hop, and the extra cost is modest against what a light cabin saves.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a delegation that wants to work in the air, a group that travels together, or a trip that carries on from Chisinau to Central Europe. The 3,590 m runway takes all of these without restriction.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the short hops around the Moldovan border: Iasi and Bucharest are well under an hour away, and the saving over a jet on such distances is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain and not a routine service inside Moldova. Where a helicopter flight is possible it is agreed case by case, with the flight plan accepted by the Moldovan air navigation service before a quote is written.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Chisinau has no based business fleet to speak of, so the aircraft we quote usually comes from Bucharest, Budapest, Vienna or Istanbul and is positioned to London or to Moldova first. That is normal for a destination of this kind, and the positioning leg is a visible line in the quote, not a hidden one.

Business aviation airports for Chisinau

One airport takes the traffic, and three Romanian airports matter because they are where the programme falls back to when Moldovan airspace is closed or when the party combines Moldova with Romania.

Airport What it gives you
Chisinau, Eugen Doga
RMO / LUKK
The only Moldovan airport with scheduled flights and the only one we would put a private jet into. It lies about 13 km south-east of the city, at 122 m above sea level, with a main runway 08/26 of 3,590 m by 44 m in concrete and a second runway of 2,383 m. It is listed as open round the clock and as an airport of entry, with customs and immigration on site and Jet A-1 available. Handling is mandatory and booked through a local agent. Slots are not required, although parking can need advance coordination at busy times. No curfew or noise restriction is listed, only a bird warning at dusk and dawn. The airport was run for years under a long private concession, which a court ruling ended, and it is back under state management. The IATA code changed from KIV to RMO, so older schedules and documents may still show the old one
Iasi
IAS / LRIA
The Romanian fallback nearest to Chisinau, about 8 km east of Iasi, with one runway of 2,400 m (14/32) and a Category I instrument approach on runway 14. Flight-support companies list handling with VIP terminal access and no curfew, but one database does not mark it as an airport of entry, so we ask the airport and the border police to confirm in writing that they will clear a private arrival from Britain. By road it is about 147 km to Chisinau by way of the Sculeni crossing
Bacau, George Enescu
BCM / LRBC
The second Romanian fallback, about 90 nautical miles from Chisinau in a straight line, with a runway of about 2,500 m. It is the airport where a scheduled flight bound for Chisinau landed when Moldovan airspace was closed for just over an hour, which makes it a realistic diversion. The road to Chisinau is longer than from Iasi, so it is a plan B for the aircraft and not a place to hold a party
Bucharest, Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu
BBU / LRBS
About 8 km north of the centre of Bucharest, with a runway of 3,100 m (07/25). The airport was dedicated to business flights for a time and also handles scheduled low-cost traffic. It suits a programme that includes Bucharest. As a fallback for Chisinau it is poor: the road is about 445 km, or about six hours before any wait at the border

Four things to settle before a Chisinau landing:

Handling, fuel and documents

Handling is compulsory, and the local agent needs the general declaration, the crew list and the passenger manifest before you land. Jet A-1 and catering are arranged through the agent, and a VIP lounge with expedited passport control is listed for private passengers. The aircraft documents and the insurance certificate must stay valid for the whole stay.

Permit and lead time

A foreign operator needs landing permission from the Moldovan Civil Aviation Authority. The published lead time for commercial non-scheduled flights is two working days for a series of up to three flights and three working days for four or more, and flight-support companies file against three working days. We ask for more, and we do not give you a firm date until the permit is in hand.

Border and passport

Moldova is outside the EU and outside Schengen, so you clear the border on arrival even when you have just left an EU country. British passport holders may visit for business or tourism for up to 90 days in any six months. The passport must be valid for at least three months after departure, with one blank page, and you may be asked for a return or onward ticket.

Airspace and closures

According to the published airspace notices, only a corridor along the Romanian border is open to civil traffic, and the airspace can be closed for a few hours at short notice when military drones stray across the border. Flights wait for the reopening or divert to Romania. The party carries a margin of a night in the programme, and the aircraft carries the fuel for the alternate.

business aviation

Airspace, routing and what is realistic

A private flight from Britain to Moldova is possible in principle, subject to the operator, the insurer and the permit, and it is flown to a published pattern. Moldova opened a western corridor of its airspace for civil traffic along the Romanian border, from the frontier to Chisinau, and all flights come and go through Romania. The rest of the airspace is restricted or closed to general traffic, and the eastern part, along the border with Ukraine, is a restricted area that civil flights enter only with special permission. A charter to Chisinau never needs it. The aircraft files over Hungary and Romania, picks up the published arrival from the west and lands on the runway in use.

What a client should expect from a Moldovan sector

– The route is long on the map and short on surprises. From the south of England it adds only 20 to 30 nautical miles to the straight line, and from Scotland 50 to 70, so the dogleg is a small part of the bill;

– The European Union Aviation Safety Agency lists Ukrainian airspace in its conflict zone bulletin and does not list the Chisinau region, but other states publish their own warnings for it, and operators and insurers make their own judgement. Two operators can give different answers to the same request, so we ask several;

– The airspace has been shut for an hour or so after drones strayed across the border. A flight bound for Chisinau has landed at Bacau in Romania in such a case, and a departure has been held on the ground. This is what the alternate, the night in hand and the car on standby are for;

– If the party is not willing to accept a closure, a landing at Iasi with a drive across the border is the more predictable plan, and we price it side by side with the direct flight.

Border, passport and the road to Romania

Moldova has EU candidate status, and accession negotiations with the Union are under way, but the country is not a member and not in the Schengen area, so the border checks are Moldovan ones. Arrival is registered automatically, overstaying carries fines and expulsion, and cash or travellers' cheques of 10,000 or more in the EU's currency, or the equivalent, must be declared, with a certified declaration issued in return. The British government advises against all travel to Transnistria, the strip of land on the eastern bank of the Dniester that is outside the control of the Moldovan government, and our programmes keep clear of it. Gagauzia in the south has no checkpoint on the road and is an ordinary day trip.

For the return, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and customs clearance happens at the British arrival airfield. If the party drives into Romania instead, the crossing at Sculeni is an external border of the European Union, with passport control on both sides.

From the apron to the wine cellars

Chisinau is a capital of about 700,000 people in its municipality, a city built largely in white limestone and nicknamed after it. The Nativity Cathedral, the Triumphal Arch, the Stephen the Great Monument and the paths of Valea Morilor park are within a short drive of each other, and the museum of history is the one to give an hour to. What brings private clients is what lies within a morning of the airport: two of the largest wine cellars in the world, a gorge with a cave monastery and a region with its own language.

Airport to the city centre
about 13 km north-west, with the cathedral, the arch and the main boulevard at the end of the drive
typically 25 to 30 minutes
Chisinau to Cricova
north of the capital, a wine cellar of limestone galleries 60 to 80 m below ground, kept at 12 to 14 degrees all year
about 15 km
Chisinau to Milestii Mici
from the capital, galleries of around 250 km in all, of which around 120 km are in use, recorded as the largest wine collection in the world
about 18 km
Chisinau to Orheiul Vechi
about 60 km north-east, a cliff gorge on the Raut river with a cave monastery, fortress remains and the village of Butuceni
1 to 1.5 hours
Chisinau to Comrat, Gagauzia
the capital of an autonomous region whose people speak a Turkic language, with a wine tradition of its own
about 1 h 20 min by road
Iasi airport to Chisinau
about 147 km by way of the Sculeni crossing, the route of the Romanian fallback
3 to 4 hours with the border

Both cellars are visited by appointment, not on impulse. The galleries are cool, so bring a jacket. At Milestii Mici guests ride electric buggies through the tunnels, and the tour runs in English; at Cricova the Oenotheque collection holds about 1.3 million bottles. Plan for half a day at each, or one cellar and Orheiul Vechi in a day. The driving limit for alcohol is very low, so a chauffeur is part of the booking.

Flying to Chisinau with a dog or a cat

The pet paperwork for Moldova is the longest lead-time item in the whole booking, so start it before the aircraft is confirmed. The animal sits beside you in the cabin on a sector of about three and a half hours, and most simply sleep.

private flight with animals

What to expect, and what we confirm in writing before the quote:

  • Moldova is outside the EU and sets its own rules. The Moldovan food safety agency issues the certificate for the non-commercial movement of pets, and its service page lists the owner's identity document, the pet's passport and a laboratory report on rabies antibody tests among the documents;
  • A rabies antibody test needs a blood sample taken some weeks after vaccination, and the result must be on the paperwork, so count the lead time in weeks, not days. An ISO microchip placed before the rabies vaccination is the safe route;
  • Pets arriving by air are normally checked at Chisinau airport; we confirm the entry point and the veterinary check in writing before the flight;
  • For the return, a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork, and cats do not. Britain may apply stricter rules, including a blood test, to animals that return from some countries, and we check the position for Moldova on the British government site for your dates before we confirm the booking.

What catches owners out on the Moldovan run

– The antibody test is the step that cannot be hurried. A trip planned for next week is not a trip with a dog, and an owner who books the aircraft first and the vet second often has to move the date;

– The tapeworm window on the way home is 24 to 120 hours, so a vet appointment in Chisinau must fall inside it. A flight that slips by a day can push the window out of reach, so we fix the appointment against the confirmed departure time;

– If the party chooses the Romanian fallback, EU rules apply on landing in Romania and the Moldovan rules apply on crossing the border by car, so the animal has to satisfy both. Tell us before the quote if a pet is on the manifest.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Chisinau calendar: one big wine weekend and a quiet year around it

Chisinau has no season in the sense that Alpine or coastal destinations have. It has a handful of dates that fill hotels and cellar tours, and the rest of the year is easy to book. Knowing which weekend you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

February
The ExpoVin Moldova wine exhibition at the Moldexpo centre, with a Wine and Gastronomy Theatre alongside. A trade event for buyers and producers, small parties flying in for two or three days
March
The Martisor Music Festival in Chisinau and other towns. A cultural break, with light booking pressure
May
The Night of Museums in the middle of the month, when the capital opens its museums in the evening. A short city break, easy to arrange at short notice
Summer
The cellars stay at 12 to 14 degrees all year, which makes them the coolest place to be in a hot month. Tours are best booked ahead, and the guides advise it above all in summer
First weekend of October
National Wine Day, a two-day festival on the Great National Assembly Square in the centre of Chisinau, with tastings, food stalls, craft fairs and cultural events. The busiest weekend of the year for hotels, cellar slots and cars, and the one to book early
14 October
Chisinau City Day, with events along the main boulevard and the central square. It falls a week or two after the wine weekend, so much of the month is busy
Early November
The Gagauz wine festival in the central square of Comrat, held on the first Sunday of the month. A day trip from the capital for those who want to see the wine culture of the south
Winter
Cold and windy, and quiet for bookings. A good time for a business trip, with cellars at the same temperature as in July

Why the wine weekend costs more

Not the flying. The fleet around Chisinau is thin, so a Friday arrival and a Sunday return on National Wine Day weekend means an aircraft positioned from Bucharest or Budapest, and that positioning leg is in the price. The good hotels, the cars with drivers who know the cellar roads and the slots for tours fill first. A booking made two weeks before the festival can still be done, but a booking made six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside the dates above, Chisinau is easy to book and a charter can usually be arranged in a few days, subject to the permit.

Ways to bring the Chisinau price down

  • Move the dates by a day or two off the festival weekend. A Monday arrival is cheaper and the cellars are quieter than on a Saturday;
  • Choose the aircraft by the party, not by habit. On the same route from Biggin Hill the light jets start at £16,050 and a Citation XLS+ at £19,900, so the step up to a midsize cabin is about £3,850 one way, which for most parties is the price of a comfortable trip against a cramped one;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Bucharest, Budapest or Vienna takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of this length the positioning is a meaningful part of the bill.

Chisinau produces a different mix from the Alpine or the Mediterranean destinations we cover, because it is a capital in the middle of an EU accession process and a wine country at the same time, and because the way in is a single corridor.

  • Business and government delegations, with fixed meeting dates and a small team: ministries and company head offices are in the capital;
  • Wine buyers, producers and sommeliers on a tasting programme, with cellar visits at Cricova and Milestii Mici and a night at Orheiul Vechi;
  • Weekend breaks around National Wine Day and the city festivals, from small groups of friends;
  • Day trips and overnight stays in Orheiul Vechi, Gagauzia and the cellars, with a car and driver who know the roads;
  • Family visits, where the aircraft and the driver matter less than the arrival hour and the paperwork for the pet;
  • Combined trips with Romania, landing at Iasi or Bucharest and driving into Moldova, or the reverse.

The planning rule for all of these is the same. When the dates are fixed and the party spends a night or two on the ground, one booking with the aircraft kept for you is usually the better arrangement than two one-way charters, because the crew and the aircraft are in the right place if the weather or the airspace changes the plan. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Chisinau is a thinner market than the main European capitals, so legs are rarer, and it helps to know where they come from.

Where Chisinau empty legs come from

– Wine weekends. An aircraft that brings a party to National Wine Day often returns empty on the Sunday or Monday, and a leg towards Britain or Central Europe can be offered;

– Delegations. A team that flies in for two days leaves an aircraft with no passengers on the way back, or an aircraft arrives empty to collect them;

– Romanian and Central European positioning. Operators moving aircraft through Bucharest, Budapest or Vienna sometimes extend a leg to Chisinau.

Because the corridor is narrow, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Chisinau match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Moldova a helicopter is a request to be examined, not a service to be listed. Flights inside the country, and low-level general aviation in particular, run under tight control: a flight plan must be accepted by the Moldovan air navigation service in coordination with the Ministry of Defence, and the rest of the airspace outside the corridor is restricted. We therefore plan every programme around cars and treat a helicopter as an addition when it can be arranged.

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check the status of a cellar courtyard or a hillside before the quote is written, not after it;

– Permission comes before price. The flight plan must be accepted before the flight, and we will tell you if it cannot be done rather than quote it anyway;

– Weather sets the schedule. Fog, low cloud and winter conditions can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day.

The machines we would book on request are the Airbus H125 for scenic work, the wider H130 for country-house transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties, positioned from Romania. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Chisinau charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

DELEGATION · TWO DAYS ON THE GROUND

A small team for meetings in the capital

Biggin Hill - Chisinau and return, Citation CJ3+, about 3 h 20 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up at seven, lunch in the city and meetings in the afternoon, back on the aircraft two days later. The permit was filed as soon as the aircraft was confirmed, and the quote carried the alternate in Romania as a line of its own. Nothing happened, which is exactly how a trip of this kind should end.

WINE BUYERS · A CELLAR PROGRAMME

Four days of cellars, one night at Orheiul Vechi

London Luton - Chisinau, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 15 min · 8 pax

Eight buyers, sample cases and two cellar visits booked well ahead, one at Cricova and one at Milestii Mici. The midsize cabin was chosen for the hold, not the seats, since the party planned to bring cases home. A chauffeur was part of the booking from the first message.

NATIONAL WINE DAY · A WEEKEND BREAK

Six friends on the first weekend of October

Farnborough - Chisinau, Phenom 300E, about 3 h 10 min · 6 pax

They booked six weeks ahead, because hotels and cellar slots go first, and chose to arrive on the Friday and leave on the Monday. The aircraft was positioned from Bucharest, which is in the price, and a Saturday tasting on the square was the only fixed point in the programme.

AIRSPACE CLOSED · A DIVERSION

An inbound flight held for the airspace to reopen

Southampton - Chisinau, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 20 min · 5 pax

The Moldovan airspace was shut for just over an hour as the aircraft approached from the west. It held in Romania, landed once the restriction was lifted and the party was on the ground a little over an hour late. The fuel for the alternate and a standby car at the Romanian airport were in the plan and were not needed.

FAMILY VISIT · A DOG ON BOARD

Three adults and a terrier for a week

Birmingham - Chisinau, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 25 min · 3 pax + dog

The rabies antibody test and the paperwork took the longest, and the date of the flight was set only after the vet had the result. A vet appointment in Chisinau for the tapeworm treatment fell inside the 24 to 120 hours before the flight home. The dog flew in the cabin and slept most of the way.

EMPTY LEG · MONDAY MORNING WEST

A jet already going your way

Chisinau - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 3 h 10 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the wine weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Monday morning departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Chisinau

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Chisinau?

About 3 hours 20 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, and around 3 hours 10 minutes from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 1,228 to 1,259 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 3 hours 25 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow 3 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours 35 minutes. Moldova is two hours ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands at about twenty past twelve local time.

2How much does a private jet to Chisinau cost?

From about £16,050 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill or London City, and £16,250 to £16,350 in a Phenom from Luton or Farnborough. A midsize cabin runs £20,600 to £21,400 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £28,200 to £28,800. The first weekend of October can price above these figures.

3Can a private jet from the UK fly to Chisinau, and which route does it take?

In principle yes, on a published pattern. Moldova opened a western corridor of its airspace for civil traffic along the Romanian border, so the flight goes over Hungary and Romania and lands from the west. The airspace can be closed for a few hours when drones stray across the border, in which case the flight waits or diverts to Romania. Operators and insurers make their own decision about the sector, so we confirm the operator, the insurance and the landing permit before we give you a date.

4Which airport should a private jet use, Chisinau, Iasi or Bucharest?

Chisinau (RMO / LUKK) for almost every trip: 3,590 m runway, open round the clock, customs and immigration on site, about 13 km from the city. Iasi (IAS / LRIA) in Romania is the fallback when the Moldovan airspace is closed, about 147 km and 3 to 4 hours by road including the Sculeni crossing, and only if the airport has agreed to clear a private arrival. Bucharest Baneasa (BBU / LRBS) is about 445 km from Chisinau by road and is for programmes that include Bucharest.

5Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Moldova?

Moldova is outside the EU and Schengen, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival. British passport holders may visit for business or tourism for up to 90 days in any six months. The passport must be valid for at least three months after departure and have one blank page, and you may be asked for a return or onward ticket. A foreign operator also needs landing permission from the Moldovan Civil Aviation Authority, which we arrange with the handling agent.

6Can I take my dog to Moldova on a private jet?

Yes, in the cabin, but start early. Moldova is outside the EU, and the Moldovan food safety agency lists a laboratory report on rabies antibody tests among the documents for a pet, so the blood test sets the lead time. A dog also needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain, and cats do not. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork in writing before the flight.
