Private jet charter in Capri

A jet that leaves the London fields for Capri never touches the island, because Capri has no airport, and it lands at Naples about two and a half hours later. Private Jets UK plans every Capri charter in two parts, the jet to the mainland and the helicopter or boat across the water, and shows both parts in one offer. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The island has a heliport and a harbour but no runway of any length, so the airport question is really a question about which stretch of the Campanian coast suits your hotel, your luggage and your tolerance for a choppy sea.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Capri depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Capri?

Two and a half hours from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet to Naples, about two and three-quarter hours from Manchester and Leeds, and three hours from Edinburgh or Glasgow, plus a clock change of one hour on arrival because Italy keeps Central European time. At 895 to 1,208 nautical miles from the British fields we use, Naples is a long light-jet sector and the point at which a midsize cabin starts to earn its price. Remember that these times end on the mainland: the helicopter or the boat to the island comes on top. The table gives the sector from each field.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave Biggin Hill at seven in the morning and a light jet puts you on the ground at Naples Capodichino at about half past ten local time, because the flight takes close to two and a half hours and Italy is an hour ahead of Britain. From there the island is less than half an hour away by helicopter, which gets you to the Anacapri heliport and into a hotel taxi well before noon. By sea the same morning looks different: a short drive to the port at Molo Beverello, then a hydrofoil that typically takes 45 to 60 minutes to Marina Grande, so lunch on the island is realistic but not guaranteed. Count on roughly five and a half hours from a London front door to a table on Capri by sea, and nearer four and a half by helicopter.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four people with modest bags, a light jet is the cheapest way to reach the bay. Two and a half hours in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is a comfortable sit, and the helicopter that follows carries only one medium soft bag per passenger anyway, so a light cabin and a light packing list suit each other;

– With six people, golf bags, a pile of linen and evening clothes and a couple of children, we quote a midsize jet beside the light one. The jet hold is not the limit on this trip; the helicopter and the boat are, and we plan the luggage for the last stretch before we choose the cabin;

– A heavy jet earns its place for a large party, for a trip that carries on to the Gulf or the Americas, or when one aircraft stays with you across several stops. Naples has a 2,628 m runway, so length is not the question, but the operator still checks the parking position and the permit before it quotes.

Private jet flights from Capri

Capri is a hub for nothing and a departure point for very little by air: the aircraft waits on the mainland, and a charter that starts on the island begins with a helicopter or a boat to Naples or Salerno. Rome and the Amalfi Coast are short sectors, Venice and the south of France are business-length hops, and the long legs run to Vienna, Munich, Paris and the Gulf. The sectors below are priced from Naples, where the jet is. Typical one-way prices:

Onward from Capri: when the aircraft wins and when the sea does

Looked at on a map, the Bay of Naples is a short hop, and in practice the legs on either side of the flight decide the day. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi is only 34 nautical miles from Naples, a distance a turboprop covers in about half an hour, yet it makes sense only when your hotel is on the Amalfi Coast or in the Cilento and not on Capri. Rome is 98 to 111 nautical miles from Naples and about an hour from the island by helicopter, so a trip that starts in Rome can go straight to the island without touching Naples at all. For anything beyond that, the jet flies from Naples and the helicopter or the boat brings you to it, and the order of the two is worth agreeing before the quote.

Before you accept a Capri onward quote

– Which airport the quote assumes. A price into Salerno or Rome can look lower on paper than one into Naples and then add an hour of helicopter or a long road leg, so we show the total from front door to hotel and not only the flight;

– Whether the legs are one booking. London to Naples, a helicopter to the heliport and the same crew home five days later costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip than as three separate quotes, because the aircraft stays available for you instead of returning to base between legs.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h
Large jet (Legacy 600)£4,900 - 5,800/h
Long-haul jet (Global 5000, G550, Falcon 7X)£5,800 - 8,800/h
Business linersfrom £10,300/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Capri:

Light jets, for up to four people

At two and a half hours to Naples this is still a sensible class for a couple or a small family with ordinary luggage. The hold matters less than usual because the last stretch to the island has a baggage limit of its own.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, the usual choice for the bay

Five to eight people, a few days of clothes for a hot island and a cold evening, and a cabin that makes the sector from Britain easy. Most parties of this size settle here.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a party travelling as one group, for a team that wants to work in the air, or for a trip that carries on from Naples to the Gulf or the Americas. The 2,628 m runway at Naples copes with all of these, and the permit and parking are checked before we quote.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the hops inside Italy: Salerno and Rome are about half an hour and three quarters of an hour from Naples, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: Naples or Salerno to the Anacapri heliport, a transfer from Rome, or a loop over the Bay of Naples. The landing place is agreed before the quote, never on the day.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. Naples sits in the middle of the southern Italian fleet, so for a booking outside the July and August peak there is usually an aircraft within an hour of Capodichino, in Rome, in Sicily or in northern Italy, and that is often where the better price comes from. For the helicopter leg, the number of machines is far smaller than for jets and we book it first.

Business aviation airports for Capri

Capri itself has one landing place and it is not an airport. The mainland fields below are where a jet lands, and the harbours are where the last part of the journey begins.

Airport What it gives you
Capri / Anacapri, Damecuta heliport
LIQC, helicopters only
The only landing place for aircraft on the island, and it takes rotary aircraft only. It is a civil heliport on the Anacapri side, listed at 40.558 N, 14.201 E and about 37 km from Naples Capodichino, and the island has no runway at all, so a fixed-wing aircraft of any size cannot land on Capri. Passengers leave the heliport by taxi. A local operator based next to the Salerno airport flies up to six people per helicopter from here to Naples, Salerno and the Amalfi Coast, with one medium bag per passenger and soft luggage preferred
Naples Capodichino
NAP / LIRN
The answer for almost every Capri trip. About 6 km north-north-east of the city centre, with one asphalt runway, 06/24, of 2,628 m and an instrument landing system at both ends. Private flights use the general aviation side, Terminal 2 in broker listings, and several handlers work there, among them Argos VIP, Sky Services, Fly Service and Alisud. Prior permission is required, the airport is listed as open round the clock with normal handling hours in the daytime, and the island is 20 nautical miles away, under half an hour by helicopter
Salerno Costa d'Amalfi
QSR / LIRI
A 2,000 m runway, 05/23, in Bellizzi, about 21 km south-east of Salerno and about 34 nautical miles from Naples. It is the airport for the Amalfi Coast and the Cilento more than for Capri, served mainly by scheduled airlines, with private jets handled case by case, so we confirm handling, customs cover and parking for your date before we quote it. The helicopter operator that flies Capri is based beside it, and the flight across to the heliport is about 25 minutes
Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino
FCO / LIRF, CIA / LIRA
Not alternatives to Naples but the right arrival when Rome is part of the trip. Fiumicino is 111 nautical miles and Ciampino 98 nautical miles from Naples by air. A direct helicopter flight from Rome to Capri is quoted at about an hour, which is faster than the road plus a boat, and the helicopter operator has to confirm the route and the landing site
Naples, Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi harbours
the sea gateways
Not airports but the other half of the journey. Hydrofoils from Naples leave from Molo Beverello and conventional ferries from Calata Porta di Massa, and Sorrento is the shortest crossing, about 5 km from the island across the strait. Positano and Amalfi send high-speed boats in the season, roughly from April to early November. Hydrofoils are the first sailings cancelled in rough seas, which is why the helicopter is the sensible reserve

Four points settle most Capri arrivals:

Handling at Naples

Naples has several handlers on the general aviation side, and the choice affects the car, the catering and the fee. Universal Aviation is one of the names that works there through local agents. We ask the operator for its preference, put the handler in the quote as its own line and brief the driver with the handler as well as the flight number.

Permits, slots and ground time

A British operator is a non-EU operator in Italy. It needs an EASA third-country authorisation and the Italian civil aviation authority, ENAC, issues the permit: for aircraft with fewer than 20 passenger seats the single-flight request is made at least three working days ahead, and a blanket permit can cover a period. Broker listings add prior permission at Naples and a ground time of about two hours before a parking extension, and the summer weekends are the busy ones.

Border and passport

Italy is in the Schengen area and Britain is not, so you clear the border at the airport. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for a photograph and fingerprints at the EU entry system, and a hotel registers your passport details with the police on arrival.

Car, boat and luggage

Give us the handler and the heliport or the pier as well as the flight, because a driver told only airport may wait at the passenger terminal. Helicopter bags are limited to one medium soft bag per person, so the rest of the luggage goes by the ferry with a porter or is sent ahead. Non-residents cannot normally bring a car onto Capri in the warm months, so a car is for the mainland and the island is done by taxi, on foot and by funicular.

business aviation

Landing permits, the Schengen border and the way home

A private flight into Italy needs permission before it needs a runway. For a non-EU operator, which since Brexit includes every British one, ENAC authorises non-scheduled flights and checks insurance and safety, and the operator must hold an EASA third-country operator authorisation. Taxi flights, meaning aircraft with fewer than 20 passenger seats, can use a blanket permit that covers Italian airports open to civil traffic for a stated period, and an airport outside it needs its own request, made at least three working days ahead. Charter requests for larger aircraft are filed at least six working days ahead. We file these through the operator and say plainly when a date is too close to be safe.

For the flight home, the General Aviation Report for Britain is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure, and any passenger who needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation for the UK must hold it before boarding. British and Irish citizens are exempt. The handler at Naples who arranged the arrival files the paperwork for the departure. Remember the helicopter or boat leg in the schedule: the passengers have to be at Capodichino for the departure slot, not at the pier.

From the apron to Marina Grande and the Piazzetta

Capri is a small island, about ten square kilometres, split between the towns of Capri and Anacapri, and nearly everything on it is within a taxi ride of a pier or a heliport. The distances that matter are the ones across the water, and the table gives them from the point where the jet lands.

Naples airport to Molo Beverello
the airport is about 6 km from the city centre, so the road leg to the port is short
typically 15 to 30 minutes
Naples to Capri by hydrofoil
from Molo Beverello to Marina Grande; the timetables quote 45 to 60 minutes depending on the boat
45 to 60 minutes
Naples to Capri by conventional ferry
from Calata Porta di Massa, which takes vehicles, and the slowest of the options
75 to 85 minutes
Sorrento to Capri
the shortest crossing, about 5 km of strait; the timetables quote anything from a quarter of an hour by hydrofoil to 40 minutes by ferry
roughly 15 to 40 minutes
Positano to Capri
high-speed boats and motorboats in the season; most of the Amalfi crossings stop in Positano first
40 to 50 minutes
Amalfi to Capri
boats run from about mid-April to October, usually through Positano
about an hour
Naples airport to the Anacapri heliport
20 nautical miles over the bay, with taxis waiting at the heliport
under 30 minutes
Marina Grande to Capri town
the funicular runs up from the harbour to the Piazzetta; the road is for taxis and minibuses
a few minutes

Flying to Capri with a dog or a cat

Italy asks for more paperwork than the flight takes time, and the sector from Britain is short enough for most dogs to sleep through it. The animal normally sits beside you in the cabin. The two details that go wrong are the date on the health certificate, which is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU, and the last stretch to the island, where each carrier sets its own rules.

private flight with animals

What Italy asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time. If the order is reversed, the vaccination does not count;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, signed by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, presented at a designated point of entry. We confirm in writing whether the Naples gateway is on Italy's list of entry points for your date;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Capri run

– The point of entry. Italy takes animals from outside the EU only through designated entry points, so the plan is a first landing at an airport on the list and not a boat to the island with an unchecked animal. We confirm which airport it is before the quote, because the answer decides whether the jet goes to Naples, Rome or elsewhere;

– The vet at the end. Britain asks for the tapeworm treatment on the way home, so it is an appointment you book on the mainland towards the end of the stay, and a boat that is cancelled by rough sea can move the 24 to 120 hour window out of reach. Book a vet near Naples as a fixed point, not a guess;

– Everything between the aircraft and the villa. The helicopter operator, the ferry company, the hotel and the taxi each set their own rules for an animal, and the helicopter has a payload limit of six passengers and one medium bag each. In Italy a dog is typically expected to be on a lead in public places and on transport, with a muzzle carried. Settle all of these before the quote.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Capri calendar: an island that opens at Easter

Capri keeps a strict season. Most hotels, restaurants and attractions close from late October to around Easter, and the island fills from the spring into the autumn, with the sharpest peak in July and August. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

November to Easter
The closed season. Most hotels and restaurants shut, ferries run a reduced timetable and crossings are cancelled in rough weather, with December the windiest month. Non-residents may bring a vehicle to the island in this window. A few places stay open, and a private villa is the realistic base
Late December to early January
The Capri Hollywood International Film Festival runs between Christmas and the New Year, an unusual event for a closed resort. Demand is concentrated into a handful of days and the helicopter is worth booking before anything else
Easter to May
The island reopens. By mid-April the boat tours, the chairlifts and the Blue Grotto are generally running. The patron saint of Capri town, San Costanzo, is celebrated on 14 May with a procession, and Rolex Capri Sailing Week, a regatta of large yachts off the island, has been held in May. Mid-April to late June is widely considered the best window of the year
June
Everything is open and the crowds have not yet peaked. Anacapri celebrates Sant'Antonio on 13 June, and the summer classical concerts at Villa San Michele begin.
July and August
The peak. Premium hotel rates and long ferry lines. Mid-August brings the Assumption beach gathering, and the folklore festival is held in Anacapri in August. Book the aircraft, the helicopter and the hotel together, because all three are tight at once
September
Warmer sea and thinner crowds. The Settembrata Anacaprese, a harvest festival, is held in Anacapri, and the sea is still good for swimming. Aircraft and helicopters are easier to find than in August
October
The second window runs from early September to early November. Most restaurants stay open through October, and some begin to close in the first days of November. The Amalfi Coast boats stop for the winter at about the same time
April to October
The Amalfi Coast season. Boats between Capri, Positano and Amalfi run roughly from mid-April to October, the Ischia boat from April to early November, while Pompeii and Herculaneum on the mainland pair easily with a stay on the island

Why a July weekend costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Naples is reachable from every part of it. What gets tight is the helicopter, the hydrofoil seats, the hotel and the car on the mainland, all in the same days. A booking made two weeks before an August weekend can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Rome or Sicily at a higher price, and a boat transfer on a day when you would rather be in the air. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. In the closed season Naples is an easy airport to charter into, and a flight can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Capri price down

  • Move the dates out of July and August where you can. May, June and September are warmer and quieter than they sound, and the helicopter is easier to find;
  • Compare the gateways. On the same light jet from Biggin Hill, Fiumicino is priced about £1,200 lower than Naples and Ciampino about £1,100 lower, while Salerno comes out about £350 higher. The saving is real only if you are happy to take the longer helicopter flight from Rome, so let the place you are sleeping decide;
  • Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people with soft bags do not need a midsize, and the money saved buys the helicopter.

Types of flights

Capri produces a different mix from the cities we cover, because people go there for the water and the view, not for meetings. Almost everything is leisure, and almost everything is a combination of a jet, a helicopter and a boat.

  • Villa and hotel weekends, flown out on a Thursday or Friday and back on the Sunday, often with a helicopter to the island so that the afternoon is not lost to a ferry queue;
  • Yacht trips and sailing around the Bay of Naples, joining a boat at Capri, Sorrento or Naples with soft bags and a fixed date;
  • Film festival, regatta and event travel, from the Easter reopening to the winter festival;
  • Amalfi Coast itineraries, flying to Naples or Salerno and finishing by boat to Positano or Amalfi in the season;
  • Day excursions on the mainland to Pompeii, about 8 km from Vesuvius, and to Herculaneum, which lies under the modern town of Ercolano, and by boat to Ischia, the other island of the bay;
  • Combined trips with Rome, flown to Rome and finished by helicopter in about an hour.

A same-day return from Britain is possible but long. The flight alone is two and a half hours each way, the helicopter or boat adds another hour at each end, and the aircraft and crew wait for you on the ground at Naples, which is paid for. A short stay is therefore usually planned as two separate one-way flights, or as an overnight, and we quote both ways so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Naples route they come from the rhythm of the season rather than from sheer volume, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Capri empty legs come from

– The start and the end of the season. Around Easter and again in October operators move aircraft between Britain and the Italian south, and a one-way repositioning flight can appear on either side of a charter week;

– The drop-and-go weekend. An aircraft that has brought a party to Naples on a Thursday goes home empty, or waits, and the leg back to London, Rome or the north is the one most often offered;

– Event weeks. A festival or regatta fills the island on several aircraft at once, and the same aircraft leave empty a day or two later, producing outbound legs to Rome, Milan, Nice and further north.

Because the corridor is thinner in winter than in the peak, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Naples match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

On Capri a helicopter is not an extra but the one aircraft that actually lands on the island. It beats the hydrofoil on time and on weather, and loses to the boat on price, on capacity and on luggage. The routes that matter are Naples to the Anacapri heliport, Rome to the island, and Salerno or the Amalfi Coast to Capri.

Naples Capodichino to the Damecuta heliport
the standard arrival transfer, against 45 to 60 minutes by hydrofoil plus the drive to the port
under 30 minutes
Rome to Capri
a direct flight that skips the road and the boat entirely
about 1 hour
Salerno Costa d'Amalfi to Capri
34 nautical miles; the operator that flies Capri has its base beside this airport
about 25 minutes
A sightseeing loop over the bay
the Bay of Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum, Positano and Amalfi, flown on the way to or from the island
on request
Damecuta heliport to your hotel
in Anacapri or Capri town; the island is small and taxis wait at the heliport
a taxi ride

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. Capri has one heliport, at Damecuta near Anacapri, and a hotel terrace or a villa lawn needs its status confirmed before we quote, not after;

– Weight and weather set the schedule. A local operator takes up to six passengers with one medium bag each, soft-sided where possible, and wind or low cloud can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble. A boat or the road must be planned into the same day;

– Book early. In July, August and the New Year festival the number of helicopters can be short of the demand, and the operator needs days of notice, not hours.

The local operator flies Airbus Ecureuil-family helicopters, the type sold as the H125, for island and coastal work; where a wider cabin or a twin is wanted we look at the H130, the H135 and the Bell 429. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable. For a published price anchor, a local operator quotes a Capri transfer from about £1,600 for a group of up to six.

Capri charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

VILLA WEEKEND · THE LAST STRETCH BY AIR

Six friends for a weekend in June

Southampton - Naples, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 30 min · 6 pax

The jet landed at Capodichino at about half past ten local time and a helicopter was waiting for the party, which put them on the island before lunch and spared them a hydrofoil queue. The soft bags travelled with them and two large cases went by the ferry with a porter. The villa, the car on the mainland and the helicopter were part of one quote.

YACHT HANDOVER · SOFT BAGS AND A FIXED DATE

Eight people to join a boat in the bay

London Luton - Naples, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 30 min · 8 pax

The handover date was set by the charter company, not by the client. Eight people, sailing bags, a case of provisions and a driver to take the party from the handler to the harbour. The booking went in six weeks ahead, and the crew flew home with the aircraft rather than waiting.

AMALFI COAST · A BOAT AFTER THE JET

Five people, a jet to Naples and a boat on

Farnborough - Naples, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 25 min · 5 pax

The party was staying in Positano and meant to go on to Capri for the day. The jet landed at Naples, a private car took them to the coast, and the boat across to the island was timed for the morning. A helicopter stayed in reserve for the day the sea turned rough.

NEW YEAR · THE FILM FESTIVAL WEEK

A couple and friends between Christmas and New Year

London City - Naples, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 35 min · 4 pax

They wanted the island in the closed season, in a private villa, for the festival days. Hotels were shut, the ferries ran a winter timetable and the weather was uncertain, so the helicopter was the plan and the boat the fallback. The flight was booked early because the week is short.

A MAY WEEK · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a labrador on the bay

Southampton - Naples, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 30 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and we asked in writing which airport the dog could enter through. The vet appointment for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. The villa accepted the dog, and everything was settled in a single exchange of messages.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Naples - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 25 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party to the bay for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Capri

1Does Capri have an airport for private jets?

No. Capri has no airport and no runway, so a business jet cannot land on the island. The only landing place is the Damecuta heliport near Anacapri, for helicopters. Jets use Naples Capodichino (NAP / LIRN), with a 2,628 m runway, or Salerno Costa d'Amalfi (QSR / LIRI), and the last stretch is a helicopter flight of under half an hour from Naples or a hydrofoil crossing of roughly 45 to 60 minutes.

2How long is a private jet flight from London to Capri?

Between 2 hours 30 minutes and 2 hours 35 minutes from Biggin Hill and London City in a light jet to Naples, and around 2 hours 25 minutes from Luton or Farnborough in a Phenom, covering roughly 895 to 929 nautical miles. From Birmingham or Bristol allow about 2 hours 40 minutes, from Manchester about 2 hours 45 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 3 hours. Italy is one hour ahead of Britain. The helicopter or boat to the island comes on top.

3How much does a private jet to Capri cost?

From about £12,150 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill to Naples, £12,250 from London City, and £12,400 to £12,550 in a Phenom from Luton or Farnborough. A midsize cabin runs £15,450 to £16,300 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £23,850 to £24,300. July, August and the New Year festival week can price above these figures. The helicopter or boat from Naples to the island is quoted separately, and a local helicopter operator starts at about £1,600 for a group of up to six.

4Which airport should I use for Capri, and how do I get across?

Naples Capodichino (NAP / LIRN) is the usual choice: the island is 20 nautical miles away, and a helicopter reaches the Anacapri heliport in under half an hour. The alternative is a car to Molo Beverello and a hydrofoil to Marina Grande, which typically takes 45 to 60 minutes and is the first sailing cancelled in rough seas. Sorrento is the shortest crossing. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi suits the Amalfi Coast, and Rome is about an hour from Capri by helicopter. Fiumicino is priced about £1,200 lower than Naples on the same light jet from Biggin Hill.

5Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Capri?

Britain is outside the EU and Schengen and Italy is inside both, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival at the mainland airport. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months beyond departure. A British operator needs an authorisation from the Italian civil aviation authority, and for aircraft with fewer than 20 passenger seats the single-flight request is made at least three working days ahead. The operator and our team handle the permits and the paperwork.

6Can I take my dog to Capri on a private jet, and when is the island open?

Yes. The dog normally travels in the cabin with you, and Italy asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days before travel, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. We confirm in writing which airport the dog may enter through. A dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain, and cats are exempt. The island is open from about Easter to the end of October, with the peak in July and August, and most hotels and restaurants are closed in winter.
