Private jet charter to Tromso
Tromso sits three hundred and fifty kilometres inside the Arctic Circle, and that single fact governs everything about flying here: what the season is for, how the light works, and why de-icing appears in a conversation about a summer flight. Three hours from London, and a wholly different set of rules on arrival. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The aircraft we quote for Tromso sit at the London fields, in Scotland and across the Nordic capitals, and Aberdeen is the shortest run to the Arctic that Britain offers.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter to Tromso depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Every price on this page is indicative and put together the way a real quote is: a named aircraft on a named sector, the passenger count shown. The tables below give current levels, and a personal calculation takes our consultant about 20 minutes through any form here.

Two things that move the price on this route
– The aurora season. Traffic runs from late September to the end of March and concentrates hard into the darkest weeks, and a strong solar forecast can move a dozen bookings in a day. This is the one destination we sell where the demand responds to space weather;
– Winter operations. De-icing, longer turnarounds and the occasional snow closure are ordinary here rather than exceptional, and the quote allows for them. Langnes has among the best winter equipment in Europe and still shuts for a day when the weather insists, which is worth knowing when a return is tightly scheduled.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database holds over 6500 business jets. On a three hour sector to the Arctic the first question is range with a load, and the second is whether the operator flies this part of the world regularly, because winter here is not a formality:
Turboprops
Not a candidate from Britain: twelve hundred nautical miles over the North Sea in a King Air means a fuel stop and a long day. They work the regional hops inside northern Norway once you are here.
Light jets
Workable from Scotland and short of comfortable range from the south with a full cabin. From Aberdeen a Phenom 300 does it easily; from Luton the same aircraft is closer to its limits than we like.
Super-midsize
Where this route lives. The XLS+ covers every British departure in the table above with eight aboard, and it is the aircraft most of our Tromso bookings actually fly on.
Heavy jets
Booked for a party of a dozen, and increasingly for the expedition and research traffic that uses Tromso as a staging point for Svalbard and the ice edge.
Ultra-long range
Seen at Langnes on inbound legs from North America and Asia, where the aurora traffic arrives directly rather than connecting through a European hub.

This is only a part of what is available. The aircraft on your contract is chosen for the sector and the date, and on Arctic routes we look first at operators with winter experience in Scandinavia.

Business aviation airports in Tromso
Langnes is the airport and there is no alternative worth discussing: the nearest fields of any size are military or regional strips serving communities rather than visitors. It sits on the western shore of Tromsoya island, three kilometres from the centre, with a single runway of 2,447 metres that takes every business aircraft category.
single 2,447 m runway, all business aircraft categories, operated by Avinor3 km to the centre
Aviator, Sundt Air Executive, Just Aviation and Widerøe ground servicesfour agents on the field
de-icing, snow clearance and weather monitoring built for the conditionsamong the best in Europe
wind shear on short final in strong southerlies, which is why operator experience matterssteep, and known for it
What Arctic operations actually mean
Langnes handles two million passengers a year in conditions that would close most airports, and its winter equipment is accordingly serious. That does not make it immune: heavy snow shut the airport for a full day in recent memory, and the runway is a single strip rather than a pair. What this means for a booking is margin. We build the return with a day of slack where the schedule allows, and we say plainly when it does not.
The approach is worth a word because it shapes who flies here. Langnes sits between water and mountain with a notably steep descent to the runway, and strong southerly winds produce shear on short final. Norwegian crews handle it daily and it is well within the capability of any competent one, but it is a reason we look first at operators with Scandinavian winter experience rather than simply at the cheapest available aircraft.
Where people go from the ramp
– The city centre and the harbour, ten minutes, which covers the hotels and the cathedral;
– The aurora camps east towards the Lyngen Alps and the Finnish border, an hour to two hours by road, and where most winter visitors spend their nights;
– Sommaroy and the outer islands, an hour west along a road that runs out into the sea;
– Svalbard, an hour and a half further north by air, for the parties who treat Tromso as a staging point rather than a destination.

Flying to Tromso with a dog or a cat
Norway is outside the European Union but inside the pet travel arrangement, so the paperwork is the familiar set. What is different here is the cold, and it deserves more thought than the documents do.
What Norway asks for on the way in:
- An ISO 11784/11785 microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination rather than after it;
- A rabies vaccination given at least 21 days before entry, the animal being 12 weeks old or more when it was administered;
- An EU Animal Health Certificate from a UK government-authorised veterinarian, issued within 10 days of arrival and valid for the journey home for up to four months;
- Tapeworm treatment before entering Norway as well as before returning to Britain. Norway is one of the countries that requires it in both directions, which catches people out;
- Praziquantel from a Norwegian vet 24 to 120 hours before landing back in Britain, recorded with the date and the product. Dogs only; cats are exempt.
The requirement that is specific to Norway
Most European destinations ask for worming only on the way home. Norway asks for it in both directions: a dog entering the country needs praziquantel administered and recorded within a set window before arrival, and the same treatment again before the flight back to Britain. Two appointments rather than one, and the outbound one has to happen in Britain before departure. Our managers set the timings out in writing for your dates, because getting the first one wrong means the animal is turned back at the border.
Three things about the cold
– January temperatures sit well below freezing and the wind off the water makes them feel colder. Short-coated breeds need a coat and boots, and the walk from the aircraft to the car should be exactly that: short. We bring the vehicle to the steps;
– Salt and grit on the roads and pavements cut paws badly. Any local pet shop sells the wax that prevents it, and the aurora camps outside town are used to visiting dogs;
– Polar night is dark rather than dim. From late November to mid January the sun does not clear the horizon at all, which changes the walking routine more than the temperature does.
Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are set out on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the current position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
Types of flights
Our company provides all types of business flights. Due to a wide variety of jets, we can arrange:
- private flights;
- corporate flights;
- business class flights;
- concert tours;
- medical flights (with doctors and special equipment on board);
- tourist flights for large and small groups;
- sports charters for teams and coaching staff;
- combined flights (partly by business jet, and partly by helicopter);
- exclusive flights on luxury jets for businessmen, celebrities, and politicians;
- cargo flights, etc.
A flexible approach and a wide experience allow us to solve problems of any complexity. In 90% of cases, we manage to arrange urgent flights (on the day of application). But to be sure, we recommend you send a request at least 2-5 days before the desired date of departure.

Empty Legs
Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way (for example, when the passenger flies from England to Tromso). After the flight, the jet returns to its home base (for example, to London Farnborough airport) empty. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.
It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.

Jet Sharing
Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.
We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1200 to 6000 pounds (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.
Main advantages of this service:
- All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
- You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
- No baggage restrictions;
- Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
- Pets can be carried directly in the aircraft cabin.
Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter
Rotary work here is governed by something no other destination on this site has to contend with: for six weeks either side of the solstice there is no daylight at all. That does not stop every flight, but it narrows the window sharply, and it is the first thing we check when a winter transfer is requested. These are the legs we arrange most:
ten minutes by road, and rarely worth a rotary legabout 4 minutes
the ski touring and the lodges east of the fjord, two hours by roadabout 25 minutes
an hour west on a road that runs out into the seaabout 15 minutes
towards the Finnish border where the skies clear more often30 to 45 minutes
the island south west, three hours by road and ferryabout 30 minutes
The machines that work these routes
– Airbus H125 and Bell 407, the light singles that most Norwegian operators fly and the types used for the shorter coastal work;
– Airbus H145 and AgustaWestland AW139 for a larger group and for anything over water in winter, where twin engines and instrument capability stop being optional;
– The operators here fly search and rescue and offshore work alongside charter, which means the crews are used to conditions that would ground a resort operation further south.
Two points on Arctic rotary legs
– Daylight is the binding constraint from late November to mid January, when the sun does not rise at all and visual flying is limited to a few hours of twilight around noon. Winter transfers are planned to fit that window rather than your schedule;
– Weather closes these legs frequently and without much warning. We book a car alongside on every winter rotary booking, and on the Lyngen and Senja runs that car is a long drive rather than a minor inconvenience.

Tromso charters we have flown: six trips from the booking notes
Written up from our brokers’ own notes. Initials replace names, and details are altered where a client would otherwise be identifiable. The prices are what those bookings cost and the flight times match the tables above.
AURORA · A FORECAST THAT MOVED
Mr T. E.: three days notice and a solar storm
London Luton - Tromso, Citation XLS+, 3 h 04 min · 6 passengers
The aurora forecast turned strong on the Monday and he wanted to be there by Thursday. This is the one destination where that happens, and it is why we hold relationships with operators who can move at that pace. About 11,400 GBP each way, and the sky obliged on two of the three nights.
SCOTLAND · THE SHORT WAY NORTH
An Aberdeen energy group: four people and a day of meetings
Aberdeen - Tromso, Phenom 300, 2 h 24 min · 4 passengers
Aberdeen is the closest British departure to the Arctic at 929 nautical miles, and the energy business between the two cities makes this a working route rather than a leisure one. Out at seven, meetings from ten, back on the ramp at five. Around 7,400 GBP each way.
POLAR NIGHT · A LESSON IN DAYLIGHT
A family of five: the helicopter that could not fly
Manchester - Tromso, Citation XLS+, 2 h 56 min · 5 passengers
Mid-December, and they had planned a rotary transfer to a lodge in the Lyngen Alps for the afternoon. In December there is barely an afternoon: the sun does not rise, and visual flying is limited to a few hours of twilight around midday. They drove, two hours, and we now put the daylight window in writing at the quote stage.
EXPEDITION · STAGING FOR SVALBARD
A research charter: equipment and eight people
Edinburgh - Tromso, Citation XLS+, 2 h 39 min · 8 passengers
Tromso is where Arctic expeditions assemble, and a good share of our traffic here is staging rather than visiting. Eight passengers with instrument cases, two nights in the city, then onward north. About 9,900 GBP for the inbound leg. The hold mattered more than the cabin on this one.
PET · TWO WORMING APPOINTMENTS
Mrs C. N.: a spaniel and the rule nobody expects
Birmingham - Tromso, Citation XLS+, 3 h 02 min · 2 passengers and a dog
Norway wants tapeworm treatment on the way in as well as on the way home, which is unusual and catches people out. Hers was given by her own vet in Britain within the window before departure, and the second in Tromso before the flight back. Neither appointment was difficult; missing the first would have been.
NORDIC LEG · FROM OSLO
A Norwegian party: joining friends for the weekend
Oslo - Tromso, Citation CJ3+, 1 h 48 min · 6 passengers
Norway is a long country and Oslo to Tromso is six hundred nautical miles, which is further than London to Geneva. At about 6,000 GBP the leg cost less than the scheduled alternative for six people once the bags and the timings were counted.
Tromso and the Arctic north
Tromso is a city of about seventy-five thousand people on an island three hundred and fifty kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, and it is considerably more urban than that description suggests. It has a university, a brewery that claims to be the world’s most northerly, a cathedral in concrete and glass that everyone photographs, and a bar scene that earned it the nickname Paris of the North long before the aurora tourism arrived.
The reason most visitors come is in the sky. The city sits directly under the auroral oval, which means the northern lights appear here more reliably than almost anywhere accessible, and the season runs from late September to the end of March. What nobody explains beforehand is how much the light itself governs a visit: from late November to mid January the sun does not rise at all, and from May to July it does not set.
The other half of the traffic is working. Tromso is the administrative and scientific capital of the Norwegian Arctic, the base for polar research and for the fisheries, and the staging point for expeditions towards Svalbard and the ice. The Arctic Council secretariat sits here. A good share of the aircraft on this page are carrying people who are not looking at the sky at all.
Where to stay
- Clarion Hotel The Edge. On the harbour front in the middle of town, the largest and best positioned of the city hotels, with the boats leaving from outside;
- Scandic Ishavshotel. The one that looks like a ship on the quay, with the rooms facing the Arctic Cathedral across the water;
- Arctic Panorama Lodge, Uloya. An hour and a half out on an island north east of the city, purpose-built for aurora watching with no light pollution at all;
- Sommaroy Arctic Hotel. An hour west where the road runs into the sea, with sea cabins and a beach that looks Caribbean until you touch the water;
- Lyngen Lodge. Across the fjord under the Lyngen Alps, for the ski touring and the parties who came for the mountains rather than the city;
- The wilderness camps inland towards Finland, which are where the clearest skies are and where the serious aurora chasers spend their nights.
What to do
- Chase the aurora. Go inland or east away from the coastal cloud, take a guide who watches the forecasts, and give it three nights rather than one;
- The Fjellheisen cable car. Four minutes to a plateau above the city with the whole archipelago below, and the best view in northern Norway for the money;
- Whale watching. From November to January the humpbacks and orcas follow the herring into the fjords, and the boats go out from the harbour;
- Dog sledding and snowmobiles, which is what most winter visitors do with the few hours of twilight they get;
- The Arctic Cathedral and the Polar Museum, the two buildings that explain the city to itself;
- Ski touring in the Lyngen Alps, where the runs finish at the water and the season lasts into May.
When the city is busy
- The aurora season from late September to late March, with the deepest winter weeks the busiest;
- Christmas and New Year, when the polar night is at its darkest and the hotels fill entirely;
- The Tromso International Film Festival in January and the Northern Lights music week that follows it, both of which move the city;
- Late June, when the midnight sun brings a different set of visitors and the marathon runs at two in the morning;
- April, May and September, which are the shoulder weeks: some darkness, some daylight, and the best value on this page.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Tromso
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Tromso?
Three hours and four minutes from Luton on a Citation XLS+ over the 1,197 nautical mile sector. From Aberdeen it is two hours twenty-four, which is the shortest British departure to the Arctic; from Edinburgh two thirty-nine, from Manchester two fifty-six and from Birmingham three hours and two minutes.
2How much does a private jet to Tromso cost?
From about 7,400 GBP one way from Aberdeen on a Phenom 300 and 9,900 GBP from Edinburgh, rising to around 10,900 GBP from Manchester and 11,400 GBP from Luton on a Citation XLS+. Each figure buys the whole aircraft. Scotland is meaningfully cheaper here than the south of England, which is not true of most destinations we sell.
3When is the best time for the northern lights?
The season runs from late September to the end of March, and the darkest weeks in December and January give the longest viewing windows. What matters more than the date is the weather: the coast is cloudy and the skies inland towards the Finnish border are clearer, so most serious aurora trips go east from the city rather than staying in it. Give it three nights.
4What is polar night and does it affect the flight?
From late November to mid January the sun does not rise at all in Tromso. The jet is unaffected, because airline and business aircraft fly on instruments and Langnes is equipped for it. What is affected is the helicopter: rotary transfers here run visually and in winter the usable window narrows to a few hours of twilight at midday, so we plan those legs to fit the light rather than your schedule.
5Can I bring my dog?
Yes, in the cabin with you and with no weight limit, but Norway has a requirement that catches people out: tapeworm treatment is needed on the way in as well as on the way home. The outbound dose has to be given by your own vet in Britain within the window before arrival, and the second by a Norwegian vet before the flight back. Two appointments rather than one, and we set the timings out in writing.
