Private jet charter in Salzburg
A jet leaving a London airfield at seven in the morning touches down in Salzburg shortly before ten local time, and what follows depends on the month: a Festival ticket, a ski week in the Salzburger Land, or a meeting just over the border in Bavaria. Private Jets UK arranges the charter around whichever of those it is. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Salzburg has one airport, one runway and a very uneven year. In July and August the Festival fills the old town, from mid-December the skiers arrive and the airport typically asks for prior permission, and in between it is one of the easier Alpine airports to deal with.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Salzburg depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Salzburg?
Just under two hours from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, two hours ten from Newcastle, two hours twenty from Edinburgh, and one hour of clock difference on arrival, because Salzburg keeps Central European time. At 569 to 837 nautical miles the sector is a short-haul hop that only the Scottish airfields push towards the long end. The table gives the flight from each British field we use.

Door to door, with the Alps in the window
Leave a London airfield at seven and you are on the ground at Salzburg a few minutes before ten local time. The airport sits about 3 km west-south-west of the old town, so the drive from the apron to a hotel on the Salzach usually takes about a quarter of an hour, and a client who left a London office at half past six can be at lunch in the old town before the restaurants fill. Add the drive to the British airfield and the quick processing at both ends, and central London to central Salzburg comes to roughly three and a half hours. The weather is the only real unknown. The instrument approach is an ILS to runway 15 with category III capability, but terrain beyond the end of that runway makes the missed approach demanding, and the approach to runway 33 is a specialised RNP procedure, so we ask operators to confirm that the crew is current on the airport.
Light jet or midsize: what decides it for Salzburg
– Up to about four people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the right answer and the saving over a midsize cabin is real. Under two hours in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is entirely comfortable;
– Ski boots, boards and rigid ski cases change the arithmetic. A party of four with full winter kit is often a midsize job because of the hold and not the seats, and we quote both so you can compare;
– Heavy aircraft only make sense for a large party, for a team that wants to work in the air, or when Salzburg is the first leg of something much longer. For the Alps alone they are rarely needed.

Prices for the private jet flights to Salzburg
Typical trips from Britain, cheapest first, all of them into Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport. Festival weeks, the ski weeks from mid-December and the Christmas market weekends sit above these figures, and the calendar block further down explains when.

Alpine Austria and Bavaria from the air: when the short hop wins
Zell am See, the airfield for Kaprun and the Saalbach valley, is only about 33 nautical miles from Salzburg, while the road to Kaprun is about 80 km and takes an hour and a half. The airfield has a 664 m asphalt runway and is usable by aircraft up to 5.7 tonnes, which rules out most jets and leaves a turboprop, a light aircraft or a helicopter. Innsbruck, the airport for the Tyrolean resorts, needs slots and a crew briefed for the approach. Munich lies about 150 km to the north-west with two 4,000 m runways and better parking and hangarage, which makes it the usual alternative for a larger aircraft or a party whose meetings are in Bavaria.
Before you accept an onward quote from Salzburg
– Which airfield, and which aircraft can use it. Zell am See takes light aircraft up to 5.7 tonnes and Innsbruck demands slots and a trained crew, so a quote that sends a midsize jet to either is a quote that will change;
– Whether the winter permission is included. Salzburg has typically asked for prior permission through the ski season from mid-December, and special procedures are requested from Austro Control. A quote that does not mention it deserves a question.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Salzburg:
Light jets, and where most bookings land
At just under two hours this is still the sensible class for four or five people with ordinary luggage. Nothing here lacks the range for Salzburg, so the money goes on the hour and not on capability you will not use. The one limit is ski luggage.
Midsize, for ski bags and evening dress
Boot bags, board cases and a week of winter clothes push a party past the light-jet hold, and Festival evening wear does the same in August.
Super-midsize and large
For a group travelling as one party, for a team that needs to work in the air, and for a Salzburg stop that is the first leg of something longer.
Turboprops
The right aircraft for the hops on the doorstep: Zell am See, Innsbruck and Munich are each well under an hour in a turboprop, and the saving over a jet on that distance is large.
Helicopters
For the last stretch rather than the flight from Britain: the ski valleys, the lake hotels of the Salzkammergut and a lawn that has no runway. Austrian law requires permission for a landing outside an aerodrome, so the site is agreed before the quote.

This is a small part of what is available. Few jets are based at Salzburg, so outside the peak weeks the aircraft usually comes from Munich, Innsbruck, Vienna or northern Italy, within about an hour of the airport, and that positioning is part of what you pay for.

Business aviation airports in Salzburg
One airport does nearly all of the work. The others are either a fallback or a reason for a different plan, and it helps to know them before a quote arrives with one of them in it.
| Airport | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Salzburg W. A. Mozart SZG / LOWS |
The answer for nearly every trip. About 3 km west-south-west of the old town, with a single concrete runway of 2,750 m at an elevation of 430 m, an ILS on runway 15 and category III capability. Business flights are handled by the airport's own General Aviation Handling team, and Magnum FBO also lists Salzburg among its Austrian locations, with a lounge at the VIP terminal. The Red Bull Hangar-7 stands beside the field. The airport is open from 06:00 to 23:00 local time, and passport and customs assistance is part of the handling package |
| Munich MUC / EDDM |
The large alternative in Bavaria, about 150 km from Salzburg and 28.5 km north-east of central Munich, with two parallel runways of 4,000 m. It is not a rival for a Salzburg meeting, but it is the sensible choice when the aircraft is large, when parking and hangarage matter, or when the trip is really to Bavaria and Salzburg is a day out |
| Innsbruck INN / LOWI |
Not an alternative to Salzburg but the airport for the Tyrolean ski areas. It lies about 4 km from the centre of Innsbruck in a valley, slots are required, and crews are expected to have briefed and practised the approach. Worth using when the ski week is in Tyrol and Salzburg is only a diversion |
| Linz LNZ / LOWL |
About 125 km from Salzburg by road, with a 3,000 m asphalt runway and a Magnum FBO. A fallback when weather closes Salzburg more than a first choice |
| Zell am See LOWZ |
A small public airfield 4 km south of the town, with a 664 m asphalt runway and a limit of 5.7 tonnes. In practice turboprops, light aircraft and helicopters, and the field operators are encouraged to use for the Kaprun and Saalbach valleys |
Four points settle most Salzburg arrivals:
Choose the handler
Aircraft above 3,500 kg must book the airport's General Aviation Handling package. It covers airside transport, passport and customs assistance, crew briefing, slot and PPR requests and a VIP lounge on request. A booking made less than 24 hours ahead carries a 25% surcharge. Jet A-1 is sold only against a BP or OMV fuel release or carnet, with no card payment, so we settle fuel before departure.
Hours, slots and noise
Landings are accepted until 22:00, and until 23:00 for aircraft quieter than 84 dB. Take-offs run from 06:00 to 22:00 for commercial flights and from 07:00 for non-commercial ones, with a 98 dB figure published for departures. A late departure after a Festival performance needs the aircraft's noise figure checked first. From mid-December the airport has typically required prior permission, usually confirmed by a notice in November.
Border and passport
Austria is in Schengen and Britain is not, so passport control happens in Salzburg, arranged through the handler. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years ago and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked for fingerprints and a photograph. We send the passenger list to the handler early.
Car and the German side
Give us the handler and the hotel, not just the flight, so the driver waits at the right door. The old town is about 3 km away and Berchtesgaden, across the German border, about 30 km. Germany has notified temporary checks on its land border with Austria, so carry passports for the Berchtesgaden road.

Border, passport and Bavaria
Salzburg sits on the German frontier, and that settles a few plans. If the meeting is in Munich, land in Munich: arrival formalities are done at the airport you enter whichever country it is in, and the motorway between the two cities is about 150 km. If the weekend is in Berchtesgaden, at the Königssee or on the Obersalzberg, land in Salzburg: the town is about 30 km south of the city, and the airport is about 25 km from it.

From the apron to the Festspielhaus
Salzburg is a city you reach in a quarter of an hour from the runway and then walk. The old town, a World Heritage site, and the Festival halls sit inside a small circle on the Salzach, and the distances that matter run outward: to Bavaria, to the lakes of the Salzkammergut and to the Alpine valleys.

Flying to Salzburg with a dog or a cat
The flight is short and the animal sits beside you in the cabin from door to door, so the paperwork takes longer than the journey. The date that trips owners up is the health certificate, because it is only good for entry into the EU if it was issued no more than ten days before you land.

What the rules ask for:
- A microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination and not after it, or the vaccination has to be repeated;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 full days between the vaccination and the flight;
- An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian, issued no more than ten days before entry into the EU, valid, on current UK government guidance, for six months of onward travel in the EU and the return to Great Britain, and a new one for every trip;
- A declaration in German or English, completed in block capitals, that travels with the certificate and states that the journey is non-commercial;
- No more than five animals per traveller, presented to customs at the first point of entry. Salzburg is one of the Austrian airports that carries out these pet checks, and our handler directs you to the customs exit;
- For a dog, a tapeworm treatment from a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than five days before arrival in Great Britain. The rule applies to dogs, so cats are exempt.
What catches owners out on the Salzburg run
– The tapeworm treatment is for the way home and not the way out, so it is a vet appointment in Salzburg or in the valley where you are staying, timed inside that 24 hours to five days. A ski week makes it easy to forget until the last evening;
– A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used to enter the EU, and the certificate is a fresh one for each trip. If the rabies vaccination runs out during the stay, the certificate cannot be used to come home;
– A dog in a mountain resort is two separate permissions: the hotel has to accept the animal, and a helicopter operator has to agree to carry it. Settle both before the quote and not on the day.
Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.
The Salzburg calendar: a festival city in summer and a ski gateway in winter
Salzburg has two high seasons with little in common. Summer belongs to the Festival and winter to the mountains, with shorter music festivals at Easter and Whitsun in between. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.
Why a Festival week costs more
Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Salzburg is within an hour of Munich, Innsbruck and Vienna. What gets tight is the hours of a single runway, the parking at a small airport and good cars, all in the same week. A booking made a fortnight before the Festival or the first ski weekend can still be done, but it pays more and may mean an aircraft sent from Munich or Vienna. The same booking made five or six weeks earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside those weeks Salzburg is one of the easier Alpine airports to book, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.
Ways to bring the Salzburg price down
- Move the dates a few days where you can. A midweek departure in the ski season is usually easier to price than the Saturday changeover, and the weeks either side of the Festival are calmer than its middle;
- Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Munich, Innsbruck or Vienna takes less positioning than one from Britain, and on a sector this short positioning is a meaningful share of the bill;
- Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise. Four people with soft ski bags do not need a midsize, and the money saved buys the car and the hotel.
Types of flights
Salzburg produces a different mix from the capitals we cover, because it is a festival town, a ski gateway and a border city at the same time.
- Festival and music weekends in summer, which mean formal clothes, a late performance and a departure the morning after;
- Ski trips into the Salzburger Land and across the Tyrolean border to Kitzbühel, usually a road transfer of about an hour and a half or a short helicopter hop;
- Business trips between Bavaria and Austria, with Salzburg chosen for a meeting on the German frontier and Munich for the long-haul connection;
- Stays in the Salzkammergut east of the city, where the lakes and their castle hotels are the draw;
- Berchtesgaden, the Königssee and the Obersalzberg, which are in Germany but far closer to Salzburg than to Munich;
- Day trips from London, which at about two hours each way make a long but workable day.
The day trip is worth a closer look, and Salzburg has a catch that other airports lack. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you, and that wait is paid for, but it typically still comes out below two separate one-way charters. The published schedule closes take-offs at 22:00, so a morning meeting and an afternoon departure work well, while an evening performance and a same-night flight home typically do not. For the Festival, plan a hotel night. We quote the day trip and the overnight both ways so the difference is visible.
Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Salzburg has few jets of its own, so the legs that appear are mostly aircraft that arrived with one party and are leaving without another.
Where Salzburg empty legs come from
– Ski changeover days. Aircraft deliver one group for the week and collect another, and the legs in between, to Munich, Innsbruck or the airports of Britain, are the ones that get released;
– Festival weekends. Operators bring clients in for a performance and fly home empty the next day, and that return is the one most often offered;
– Alpine rotation. Through the winter operators move aircraft between Salzburg, Innsbruck, Munich and Zurich, and the short legs between them can be cheap.
Because Salzburg is thinner for repositioning than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Salzburg match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter
In Salzburg a helicopter earns its place on the last stretch and not on the flight itself. The old town is a short drive from the airport, so the places where rotary flight changes the day are the ski valleys, the lakes and the border country.

about 90 km, against about 1 h 30 min by roadabout 30 minutes
Fuschlsee, Wolfgangsee and Mondsee, east of the cityabout 40 minutes
Before you plan around a helicopter
– A helicopter in Austria cannot land wherever it likes. A take-off or landing outside an aerodrome needs a permit from the provincial governor, so a hotel lawn or a private garden has to have its status confirmed before we quote. For the Saalbach valley, operators have been urged to use the Zell am See airfield;
– Mountain weather sets the schedule. Cloud in a valley can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a mountain transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;
– On routes across high ground it is worth asking whether a twin-engine machine is available. For Festival weekends and ski changeovers, book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.
The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for Alpine work, the wider H130 for scenic and villa transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Salzburg charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.
DAY TRIP · OUT AND BACK
A morning of meetings in Salzburg and home for dinner
Biggin Hill - Salzburg and return, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 55 min each way · 4 pax
Wheels up at seven, on the ground a little before ten local time, a morning of meetings and back in the aircraft by mid-afternoon. The crew waited at the airport instead of going home, which is a real line in the quote and usually still comes in below two separate one-way charters. Leaving well before the 22:00 close on take-offs meant there was never any pressure on the clock.
FESTIVAL · A LATE PERFORMANCE
Four guests, an evening performance and a night in town
Farnborough - Salzburg, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 50 min · 4 pax
They flew out in the morning and stayed the night, because a performance that finishes late does not combine with a take-off deadline of 22:00. Evening dress went into the hold, the cars were booked for the end of the performance and the return left late the next morning.
SKI WEEK · THE HOLD BOOKED THE CABIN
Six friends, six pairs of skis and a pile of boot bags
London Luton - Salzburg, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 55 min · 6 pax
Bound for the Salzburger Land in January. The luggage and not the six seats moved the quote from a light jet to a midsize one. Prior permission for the winter arrival was requested with the booking, and a minibus waited at the handler's door for the hour and a half to the resort.
SALZBURGER LAND · A HELICOPTER FOR THE LAST LEG
Jet to Salzburg, rotor to a hotel above the valley
London City - Salzburg, Citation CJ3+, about 1 h 55 min · 4 pax
The client wanted a helicopter to a hotel above Saalbach. The hotel lawn was not an approved landing site, so the helicopter was routed through the Zell am See airfield and a car covered the last stretch. We asked about the landing status before quoting, which saved a change of plan on the day.
PETS · A DOG ON BOARD
Four adults and a labrador for a winter week
Southampton - Salzburg, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 55 min · 4 pax + dog
The Animal Health Certificate was dated inside ten days of arrival, the handler pointed the party to the customs exit for the dog, and a vet near the hotel gave the tapeworm treatment inside the window before the flight home. All of it was settled in a single exchange of messages and not three.
EMPTY LEG · A SUNDAY WEST
A jet already going your way
Salzburg - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 1 h 50 min · 3 pax
An aircraft that had delivered a ski group on the Saturday changeover was returning to Luton with nobody aboard. The client offered a three-day window and a flexible hour, took the Sunday departure and paid well under the price of a fresh one-way charter.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Salzburg
1How long is a private jet flight from London to Salzburg?
About 1 hour 55 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet and around 1 hour 50 minutes from Luton or Farnborough in a Phenom, covering roughly 569 to 598 nautical miles. From Birmingham or Bristol allow about two hours, from Manchester or Leeds about 2 hours 5, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 2 hours 20. Salzburg is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands shortly before ten local time.
2How much does a private jet to Salzburg cost?
From about £8,350 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill or London City, and £8,700 from Luton. A midsize cabin runs £11,050 to £11,850 from the south and Midlands, and from Scotland allow £17,150 to £17,700. Festival weeks, the ski weeks from mid-December and the Christmas market weekends price above these figures.
3Which airport should a private jet use for Salzburg?
Salzburg W. A. Mozart (SZG / LOWS) for almost every trip. It is about 3 km from the old town, has a 2,750 m runway and is open from 06:00 to 23:00, with take-offs on the published schedule ending at 22:00. Aircraft above 3,500 kg must book the airport's General Aviation Handling package. Munich (MUC / EDDM), about 150 km away, is the alternative for a larger aircraft or a Bavarian meeting, and Zell am See is for light aircraft and helicopters.
4When should I book a private jet to Salzburg?
Outside the peaks a day or two is usually enough. For the Festival in late July and August, for the Christmas markets and for the ski weeks from mid-December, allow four to six weeks. Prior permission, parking and cars all tighten in the same days, and a late booking tends to pay more for an aircraft positioned from Munich or Vienna.
5Can I get from Salzburg to the ski resorts by helicopter?
Yes. Kitzbühel and Zell am See are about 80 km from the airport and Saalbach and Schladming 85 to 90 km, against 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 40 by road, and a helicopter covers them in roughly 25 to 30 minutes in good weather. A landing outside an aerodrome needs a permit, so the site is agreed before the quote, and for the Saalbach valley the Zell am See airfield is the one operators are encouraged to use.
6Can I take my dog to Salzburg on a private jet?
Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and the EU asks for a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old, an Animal Health Certificate issued within ten days of arrival and a declaration in German or English. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 hours and five days before landing. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
