Private jet charter in Macedonia
A breakfast departure from London puts you on the ground in Skopje before lunch, which makes North Macedonia one of the shortest hops into the western Balkans and one of the least explored by British private travellers: a capital built around an Ottoman bazaar, a lake that is among the oldest in Europe, wine country to the south and ski slopes within two hours of the runway. Private Jets UK plans each charter around two airports, Skopje for almost everything and Ohrid for the lake in season, and most of the work lies in the details around them: the landing approval, the handler, the stand and the road after landing. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In North Macedonia that means an approval requested in good time, a handler who knows the Skopje apron, and a plan for the last stretch, which is as often a drive into the mountains as a short walk to a waiting car.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in North Macedonia depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ to Skopje and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to North Macedonia?
North Macedonia is the country's official short name and the one we use here; older guidebooks say Macedonia, and a request for Macedonia sometimes means Thessaloniki and the Greek region around it, which is a different destination and a different airport. The country keeps Central European Time, one hour ahead of Britain, with the clocks changing on the same weekends as in the European Union. These are the sectors from London Biggin Hill on a Citation CJ3+, wheels up to wheels down, for the airports a private jet might be pointed at on this trip:
1,043 nautical miles, in Kosovo, 47 nautical miles north-west of Skopje and the nearest foreign alternateabout 3 h 05 min
1,089 nautical miles, the capital's airport and the gateway for nearly every business flight to North Macedoniaabout 3 h 10 min
1,090 nautical miles, the lake airport in the south-west, mainly a summer destination, with its own published opening hoursabout 3 h 10 min
1,195 nautical miles, in Greece, 110 nautical miles to the south-east, the Schengen alternateabout 3 h 25 min
A working day in the capital is realistic
The shortest British run to Skopje is 1,089 nautical miles and takes 3 h 10 min. Leave Biggin Hill at eight and you land about noon local time, with the afternoon free for meetings and an evening departure that still gets you home at a sensible hour, because the airport does not shut at night.
Scotland and Northern Ireland are a different proposition. From Manchester the sector is 1,222 nautical miles, from Edinburgh 1,334 and from Belfast 1,375, between about 3 h 15 min and 3 h 35 min in the air, and clients from the north are usually quoted a super-midsize cabin for the extra room. After landing the plan matters as much as the flight: the lake is three hours from the runway by road.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– Skopje and Ohrid sit almost the same distance from Biggin Hill, 1,089 and 1,090 nautical miles, so a Citation CJ3+ is priced the same to either. Pristina is 46 nautical miles closer and about £550 cheaper on the same aircraft, but it is in Kosovo, on the far side of a border, and we quote it only as an alternate or for a party that is visiting Kosovo as well;
– A light jet reaches Skopje non-stop from London with a couple or a small family and ordinary luggage. Fill every seat, add ski bags or meet a strong headwind and a fuel stop may come into the plan, which raises the price and the flight time. We say so in the quote.
Private jet flights within North Macedonia and to its neighbours
There is almost nothing to book inside the country. The one internal pair is Skopje and Ohrid, 64 nautical miles apart, which most people drive in about three hours or skip by flying straight to the lake. Onward requests usually cross a border, and the table shows the usual ones, cheapest first:

Two things worth knowing about the onward sectors
– North Macedonia is outside the European Union and Schengen, as are Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro and Serbia, while Greece and Bulgaria are inside the Schengen area. A leg to Thessaloniki, Athens or Sofia therefore ends in a Schengen arrival, and the return begins with Macedonian passport control again;
– The shortest sectors carry a minimum charge: Skopje to Pristina, 47 nautical miles, costs the same on a turboprop as a leg twice as long. For a short hop to a Balkan neighbour a car, or a helicopter, often does better.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for North Macedonia:
Turboprops
Not for the flight out of London, which would take more than four hours, but for the hops to Ohrid, Pristina, Tirana or Sofia, where the saving over a jet is large and the runway at Skopje, about three kilometres long, is far more than a turboprop needs.
Light jets
The usual choice from London for up to four people with ordinary bags. Three hours in a small cabin is long, so headroom and the size of the baggage hold decide between models.
Midsize
The natural cabin from Birmingham, Manchester and the north, and for a family that arrives with ski bags or golf clubs and a long drive ahead.
Super-midsize and large
For Scotland and Northern Ireland, where the sector passes 1,300 nautical miles, for a delegation, and for a party that carries on to Istanbul or the Gulf. Skopje has the runway for any of them, though the stand and handling are agreed in advance.
Ultra-long range
Range this long is wasted on a three-hour sector, so these are quoted mainly when the trip continues to the Gulf or beyond.

For a Balkan booking the right aircraft is often based in Italy, Austria or Greece, and that is where a better price tends to come from.

Business aviation airports in North Macedonia
Two airports take business jets, and they are run by the same company. Skopje is the working gateway, Ohrid a seasonal convenience, and the choice between them depends on where the party is going:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Skopje SKP / LWSK |
"Alexander the Great", roughly 20 km south-east of the city centre, 25 to 35 minutes by road | The gateway for business flights to North Macedonia. One asphalt runway, 16/34, of about three kilometres, with ILS and VOR/DME approaches listed. The aerodrome and the tower are listed as open round the clock, customs is available and the airport is an airport of entry. Jet A-1 is listed. The operator, TAV, offers a VIP terminal service for arrivals and departures. Handling is listed as mandatory and slots as required |
| Ohrid OHD / LWOH |
"St. Paul the Apostle", 9 to 10 km north-west of Ohrid town, at about 705 metres above sea level | A 2,550 metre asphalt runway, 01/19, with ILS and VOR/DME approaches listed, run by the same operator as Skopje. Customs is available and the airport is an airport of entry. The directory lists Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 16:00 and Sunday from 07:00 to 15:00 local time, with prior notice needed outside those hours. The apron holds up to nine aircraft, handling is listed as mandatory and slots as not required. A VIP terminal service is offered here too |
| Pristina PRN / LYPR |
in Kosovo, 47 nautical miles north-west of Skopje by air, with a border crossing on the road | Our alternate when Skopje cannot be used. It has its own approval and formalities, so we plan it only after the handler has confirmed the stand and the onward road in writing |
Four points settle most arrivals before the quote goes out:
Approval depends on who flies
A flight sold by a charter broker and operated under an air operator certificate falls in the charter category of the Civil Aviation Agency. For one to four flights the application goes in at least three working days ahead, weekends and holidays not counted, and the approval is valid for 72 hours from the estimated time of entry or departure. A privately owned aircraft flying without payment only files a notification and flight plan at least three hours before departure.
Skopje does not close
The aerodrome and its tower are listed as open round the clock, with customs available, so a late arrival or a pre-dawn departure is possible.
Handlers: choose early
FCG OPS, CWY OPS, AviaNet24, Euro Jet and Evropa Jet Services all appear in directories for Skopje. Handling is listed as mandatory, so one is booked for the stand, the fuel and the walk through the terminal.
Mind the hours at the lake
Ohrid publishes weekday hours that end at four in the afternoon, and a party that lands outside them needs prior notice. The small apron fills in July and August.
Slots: the directories differ by airport
Directories list slots as required at Skopje and not required at Ohrid. We ask for the slot and the parking together with the approval, and the answer goes into the quote in writing.
Arriving from Britain: passports, registration and paperwork
North Macedonia is not in the European Union or in Schengen, and neither is Britain, so a flight from London lands as an ordinary international arrival with passport control and customs. The handler meets the aircraft and walks the party through the terminal.
British citizens can visit for up to three months without a visa, and the passport must be valid for at least 90 days after the day of arrival; a longer stay is arranged with the Macedonian embassy beforehandevery passenger, children included
visitors must register with the local police within 48 hours of arrival; a hotel normally does it at check-in, a visitor staying privately registers in person and de-registers 24 hours before leaving, and failing to register can bring a fine or a ban on returningkeep the slip until you leave
foreign currency worth about £8,500 or more is declared on entry, and cash that was not declared can be seized when leavingdeclare it
North Macedonia sits outside Schengen, so days spent there do not count towards the 90 in the Schengen area, and the reversecounted separately
The aircraft needs paperwork too
The operator supplies the air operator certificate, aircraft registration, radio licence, noise certificate, airworthiness evidence and insurance for the approval. Transit and positioning flights need only a notification and flight plan, and a landing for passengers goes through the Civil Aviation Agency as described above.
Coming home is a flight into Britain. A General Aviation Report goes to the border authorities not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation, and most other nationalities who need no visa do. The FCDO page for British visitors to North Macedonia lists no electronic authorisation for the way in.

Which airport for which part of North Macedonia
Skopje serves the capital, the wine country, the western mountains and nearly everything else, and Ohrid serves the lake. The roads below start at the Skopje runway unless stated:
the Old Bazaar, the Stone Bridge and the Kale fortress are roughly 20 km from the runway, 25 to 35 minutes by road; Mount Vodno, 1,066 metres, has a cable car to its topSkopje
on the western edge of the city, a gorge that makes an easy half day from the capitalSkopje
around Kavadarci, south of the capital, the best-known wine district of the country, with the harvest festival held in Kavadarci in SeptemberSkopje
the ski resort above Tetovo, 70 to 90 km west and about an hour and a half away, with lifts to about 2,400 metresSkopje
110 to 125 km west via Gostivar and about two hours by road, a lakeside resort with a ski area between about 1,255 and 1,860 metresSkopje
150 to 160 km south-west, two to two and a half hours, a mountain town with a small ski areaSkopje
about 170 km and three hours by road, on the shores of the lake; by air the same trip is 64 nautical milesSkopje, or Ohrid airport
Bitola is about 68 km from Ohrid, and the Pelister mountain resort lies another 14 km up, about an hour and a half from Ohrid airportOhrid
The Macedonian year: when the lake is open and when the snow is
Summers are hot and dry, winters cold, and the shoulder seasons good. Travel advice usually names early May to early October as the best window, and June to September as the sweet spot:
cold, with highs around 6 degrees and lows near minus 1; the ski season is in full swing at Popova Šapka, Mavrovo and Kruševoski season
cold mornings and lingering snow in the mountains; the ski season usually lasts until March or April, and the capital is quietlow
spring and the Orthodox Easter, which falls in April or early May; May is mild and good for lake walks and boat tripsshoulder
warm and getting hotter; the lake becomes pleasant for swimming and the festival season startsshoulder, warming
peak summer, with highs around 30 degrees and the busiest weeks of the year at Ohrid, when the summer festival fills the townpeak
pleasant, with fewer crowds; the wine harvest in Kavadarci and the film festival in Bitola both fall in the monthshoulder
cooler and wetter, with the wettest stretch usually in early to mid October; the ski lifts open again from Decemberlow
Waiting or flying home empty
For a stay of more than a few days it is usually cheaper to send the jet away and bring it back. From Farnborough to Skopje on a Phenom 300E that is £14,700 each way, about £29,400 for both sectors, and the quote sets that against the cost of a wait.
The Macedonian calendar: festivals, holidays and the summer
Holidays and summer festivals lift the demand for seats and stands. The main dates, by usual month:
What a holiday does to a flight plan
No single event closes an airport, but July and August lift demand for aircraft and for stands at Ohrid, and the Easter and Eid dates move through the calendar. We check the dates for the travel week before asking for the approval and the stand.

Flying to North Macedonia with a dog or a cat
A dog or cat travels in the cabin with you. North Macedonia is outside the EU, so the EU animal health certificate does not apply, but Britain lists the country among those with an easier route home, and the preparation is a matter of weeks and not months.
The one fact to read before you book
Going out, the Macedonian customs service asks for a passport issued by an authorised vet in the country of departure, or a veterinary health certificate. The animal must also be approved beforehand by the Veterinary Inspectorate, which checks it and issues a Veterinary Entry Document, and customs will not clear an animal without that document. Pet-travel sources add a microchip, a rabies vaccination with a minimum interval before entry and, for animals from countries outside its rabies-controlled list, an antibody test, and say pets should come in through Skopje airport. The sources differ on the details, so we have the Inspectorate confirm them for your animal in writing before the date is fixed.
Coming home is simpler than for many countries. North Macedonia is a Part 2 listed country on Britain's list, so no rabies blood test is asked for. The animal needs a Great Britain pet health certificate issued in the 10 days before travel, and it must arrive in Britain within those 10 days. A dog also needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing, and an animal without the right papers can be quarantined for up to four months.
- An ISO-standard microchip, fitted before or at the same time as the rabies vaccination and never after it;
- A rabies vaccination at 12 weeks of age or later, with at least 21 days between the primary course and travel;
- The Macedonian entry document arranged in advance through the Veterinary Inspectorate;
- For the return, the Great Britain health certificate, dated inside the 10-day window;
- No more than five animals per traveller; more than that, or an animal travelling apart from its owner, is treated as a commercial consignment.
There is no vet at the airfield, so we book a practice in Skopje for the certificate and the tapeworm treatment inside the 24 to 120 hour window and fit the flight home around it. Cats need the same list without the worming.
Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. North Macedonia produces them because so many trips there are one-way: the aircraft drops its passengers and has no booking back.
Where Macedonian empty legs come from
– The one-way weekend or family trip, when the aircraft drops its passengers at Skopje or Ohrid and goes home without them;
– The edges of the lake season, in June and again in September, when operators move aircraft between Britain and the Balkans;
– The ski weeks in January and February, when a jet takes a party to Skopje on a Saturday and returns empty.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of Macedonian empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| North Macedonia (Ohrid) - UK (London Gatwick) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £6,050 |
| North Macedonia (Skopje) - UK (London Biggin Hill) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £6,050 |
| UK (London City) - North Macedonia (Skopje) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £6,050 |
| UK (London Luton) - North Macedonia (Skopje) | Phenom 300E | 8 seats | £6,200 |
| North Macedonia (Skopje) - UK (Southampton) | Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £7,750 |
| UK (Birmingham) - North Macedonia (Skopje) | Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £8,050 |
| North Macedonia (Skopje) - UK (Manchester) | Citation Latitude | 9 seats | £10,250 |
| UK (Edinburgh) - North Macedonia (Skopje) | Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £11,150 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Challenger 350 from Edinburgh to Skopje with nine aboard comes to roughly £1,240 a head;
– Macedonian legs cluster at the edges of the summer and in the ski weeks, so an open return date helps.

Helicopter charter
A helicopter is not the way to reach North Macedonia from Britain. It shortens the distances inside the country, where the lake, the wine country and the ski slopes lie one to three hours from the capital by road. The sectors we are asked for:
the gorge on the western edge of the city, a scenic hop rather than a transferabout 15 min
the ski slopes above Tetovo, in place of an hour and a half on the roadabout 25 min
the lakeside resort and its ski area, in place of two hours by carabout 30 min
the Tikveš wineries for lunch and a tastingabout 30 min
the city in the south, with Pelister mountain behind itabout 40 min
the lake, in place of three hours on the roadabout 40 min
The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, and the operator confirms the route for your date. Landing sites and approvals are settled in writing before the booking.
Two points on Macedonian rotary legs
Helicopters based in the country are few, so availability is confirmed before the price.

Macedonian charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
SKOPJE · A DAY OF MEETINGS
Three directors and an evening flight home
London Luton - Skopje, Phenom 300E, about 3 h · 3 pax
The meetings ran until seven, which would mean a hotel night at most airports. Skopje is listed as open round the clock, so the approval went in a week ahead and the aircraft left for Luton after dinner.
OHRID · A JULY WEEK ON THE LAKE
A family of four with a rented house above the water
London Gatwick - Ohrid, Citation CJ3+, about 3 h 10 min · 4 pax
Ohrid publishes weekday hours that finish at four in the afternoon, so the arrival was timed inside them and the handler confirmed the stand for a busy month.
SKI · POPOVA ŠAPKA
Six friends and a week on the western slopes
Manchester - Skopje, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 20 min · 6 pax
The XLS+ took the ski bags in the hold, and the party drove west from the runway, about an hour and a half on the road.
WINE · THE TIKVEŠ HARVEST
Eight colleagues on a September tasting trip
Birmingham - Skopje, Praetor 600, about 3 h 10 min · 8 pax
A super-midsize cabin for a full table, timed for the harvest weeks. Two minibuses met the aircraft and drove south to Kavadarci, with the return set for Sunday evening.
WITH THE DOG · WEEKS OF PAPERWORK
A couple and a labrador for a fortnight
Southampton - Skopje, Citation XLS+, about 3 h 10 min · 2 pax + 1 dog
Booking the aircraft took a day. Preparing the animal took weeks: the Macedonian entry document first, then the Great Britain certificate inside the 10-day window and the tapeworm treatment in Skopje.
EMPTY LEG · A MONDAY HOME
A flexible return from Skopje
Skopje - London City, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 3 h 10 min · 3 pax
The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, and paid about £6,050, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter, for a Monday departure.

Skopje (SKP / LWSK) takes almost every business flight to the country. It has a runway of about three kilometres, and the aerodrome, tower and customs are listed as open round the clock. Ohrid (OHD / LWOH) has a 2,550 metre runway and published weekday hours, and suits a summer trip to the lake. Handling is listed as mandatory at both.
4Do I need a visa or a permit to fly privately to North Macedonia?
British citizens can visit for up to three months without a visa, with a passport valid for at least 90 days after arrival, and must register with the local police within 48 hours, which a hotel normally does. North Macedonia is outside the EU and Schengen, so passport control and customs apply on arrival. A charter flight needs approval from the Macedonian Civil Aviation Agency, requested at least three working days ahead, which we handle.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to North Macedonia?
Yes. The animal travels in the cabin with a microchip, a rabies vaccination and a passport or certificate from your vet, and the Veterinary Inspectorate issues an entry document in advance. North Macedonia is a Part 2 listed country for the way home, so no rabies blood test is needed, but the animal requires a Great Britain pet health certificate issued in the 10 days before travel, and a dog also needs a tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain.
6How far is Lake Ohrid from Skopje airport?
Ohrid is about 170 km from Skopje airport, roughly three hours by road, or 64 nautical miles by air. Ohrid has its own airport 9 to 10 km from the town, and a helicopter covers the lake in about 40 minutes.
