The Nextant 400XT is the world's first fully remanufactured business jet - not a refurbishment or upgrade programme, but a factory-based serial production process that transforms a Beechjet 400A or Hawker 400XP airframe into what the FAA Aircraft Bluebook classifies as a new aircraft type. Nextant Aerospace of Cleveland, Ohio began the programme in 2007, completed the first test flight in March 2010 and received FAA supplemental type certification in September 2011 with final certification announced in October 2011. EASA certification arrived in December 2012. AOPA confirmed 9,000 labor hours go into each conversion, replacing or overhauling all life-limited components to zero-time status - making the result 88% new by components while retaining the non-life-limited airframe structure. 73 aircraft were converted before production paused in 2019. The upgraded 400XTi variant was introduced in 2014, adding winglets with LED lighting, further aerodynamic refinements and Category IV noise compliance.

The 400XT replaces the original Pratt and Whitney JT15D-5 engines with Williams FJ44-3AP turbofans at 3,050 lbf each - 240 lb lighter, 32% more fuel-efficient and with a TBO 1,400 hours longer than the JT15D-5. AOPA confirmed the new engines reduce fuel burn while adding useful load and range. NBAA IFR range with four passengers is 2,005 nm (3,713 km) - 50% more than the stock Beechjet 400A. The Collins Pro Line 21 four-screen glass cockpit replaces the original analogue instrumentation. Cabin noise levels drop by 12 dB versus the Beechjet 400A. The flat floor throughout the cabin is noted by FlyCraft as one of the aircraft's defining features. Charter prices start from approximately £2,200 per flight hour. Why charter the Nextant 400XT?

  • World's first remanufactured business jet - 88% new, FAA Aircraft Bluebook new type, two-year whole aircraft warranty. Wikipedia confirmed the 400XT's 6,000-to-9,000 labor hour remanufacturing process results in a plane that is 88% new: all life-limited components are replaced or overhauled to zero-time, 80-90% of wiring is replaced and the engine mounts are redesigned to eliminate an airworthiness directive requiring recurring inspections. The FAA Aircraft Bluebook classifies the 400XT as a new aircraft type - not a variant of the Beechjet 400A. Nextant provides buyers with a two-year whole aircraft warranty, uniform training curriculum and Level D full-flight simulator training. For charter clients, this means the 400XT provides new-aircraft reliability standards at pre-owned pricing, typically at approximately half the cost of a comparable new light jet at the time of the programme's launch;
  • Williams FJ44-3AP FADEC at 3,050 lbf - 32% less fuel, 240 lb lighter, TBO 1,400 hours longer than the JT15D-5. AOPA's flight test confirmed the Williams FJ44-3AP engines "create slightly more thrust than the old Pratt and Whitney JT15s and do so on 32% less fuel." The engines are 240 lb lighter, providing additional useful load. TBO is 1,400 hours longer than the original JT15D-5. FADEC control eliminates the thrust reverser (no longer needed with FADEC engine management). The autothrottle reduces pilot workload and fuel burn. Wikipedia confirmed the weight reduction and efficiency improvement combine to deliver 50% more range than the stock Beechjet 400A - the primary performance transformation of the 400XT programme;
  • 2,005 nm NBAA IFR range - London to Ibiza, New York to Miami non-stop; +50% vs Beechjet 400A. Wikipedia confirmed the 400XT's NBAA IFR range of 2,005 nm (3,713 km) with four passengers - 50% more than the original Beechjet 400A's approximately 1,340 nm. Air Charter Service confirmed the 400XT "can fly non-stop from New York to Miami and London to Ibiza." The 447 kt typical cruise speed (828 km/h) means London to Nice in approximately 1 hour 40 minutes, and London to Istanbul in approximately 3 hours 20 minutes. Ferry range extends to 2,160 nm (4,000 km). LunаJets confirmed the NBAA IFR range of 3,713 km (2,005 nm) outperforms the Embraer Phenom 300 on this metric according to Nextant's positioning;
  • Collins Pro Line 21 four-screen glass cockpit with autothrottle; dual FMS; Venue CMS - upgraded from analogue Beechjet. AOPA's flight test described the cockpit transformation: "Nextant ripped out everything the airplane arrived with. It was replaced with a four-screen Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 system with dual flight management systems, bringing this 'Beechjet' in line with brand-new jets." The autothrottle is controlled by FADEC and reduces fuel burn and pilot workload simultaneously. Wikipedia confirmed the Venue cabin management system provides individual temperature and lighting control. Wi-Fi and HD entertainment are standard on the 400XTi configuration. Aviation Week confirmed the 400XT achieves "high-speed and long-range cruise speeds of 447 kt and 406 kt" within the Beechjet 400A type operating envelope;
  • 12 dB cabin noise reduction; flat floor throughout; enclosed aft lavatory - significantly upgraded interior. AOPA confirmed "Nextant gave a lot of attention to soundproofing, leading to a claimed 12-decibel decrease in cabin noise levels." The flat floor is confirmed by FlyCraft as a distinctive feature: the Beechjet 400 series "is known for its large cabin and flat floor" - a characteristic retained and enhanced in the 400XT conversion. LunаJets confirmed the standard configuration of seven seats: a four-seat club layout plus a three-seat side divan. A fully enclosed aft lavatory is fitted in all configurations. Electronically dimmable window shades, cabin management with individual temperature and lighting controls and HD entertainment are standard on equipped 400XTi aircraft;
  • 400XTi variant (2014) - winglets with LED lighting; Category IV noise; further aerodynamic refinements. Air Charter Service confirmed the 400XTi adds "raked winglets with LED lighting" plus further aerodynamic enhancements over the base 400XT. Business Air News confirmed Category IV noise compliance on the 400XTi - a standard that exceeds the Stage III compliance of the 400XT. The winglets improve cruise efficiency at altitude, contributing to the 400XTi's range figures. SkyTough confirmed the 400XTi lavatory is expanded versus the 400XT. Nextant sold 400XTi aircraft to operators on five continents by May 2013. For charter clients booking the Nextant 400 series, confirm whether the aircraft is the 400XT or 400XTi specification before booking.

Ideal routes for the Nextant 400XT

Best matched to short and medium European missions where 447 kt cruise, 2,005 nm range and light jet economics serve groups of 5 to 7:

  • Speed-priority European day trips (1 to 2 hours) where 447 kt is the fastest light jet cruise available. Paris, Geneva, Amsterdam, Brussels and Nice are all within 50 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes at 447 kt cruise. Aviation Week confirmed the 400XT's high-speed cruise of 447 kt within the Mach 0.78 operating envelope. For corporate clients on same-day return missions where the flight time is the constraint, the 400XT's cruise speed is among the highest available in the light jet category. The 12 dB noise reduction and flat floor make shorter sectors more comfortable than the original Beechjet 400A;
  • Longer European sectors (2 to 4 hours) to Ibiza, Istanbul, Moscow and North Africa. London to Ibiza (Air Charter Service confirmed non-stop), London to Istanbul (approximately 3 hours 20 minutes), London to Athens and London to Morocco are all within the 2,005 nm range. The 447 kt cruise makes these sectors faster than any other light jet available at comparable rates. At long-range cruise of 406 kt, the fuel efficiency of the FJ44-3AP FADEC engines is maximised for the longer sectors. The enclosed aft lavatory and three-seat divan at the rear provide adequate facilities for groups of 5 to 7 on these 2 to 4-hour sectors;
  • Corporate speed-focused missions where the 400XT's pace exceeds the Phenom 300 and Citation CJ3+. SkyTough confirmed the 400XT family "retains its place as the fastest light jet" at 447 kt practical cruise. The Embraer Phenom 300E cruises at Mach 0.78 (approximately 447 kt at altitude), the Citation CJ3+ at approximately 416 kt. On a 2-hour European sector the speed advantage translates to 10 to 20 minutes versus mid-range competitors. For clients where the total round-trip time matters, the 400XT provides the most speed in the light jet category at competitive charter rates;
  • Groups of 6 to 7 where the divan configuration provides a working and rest layout simultaneously. The standard 400XT configuration of four forward club seats plus a three-seat rear divan provides a natural division between a working group (forward) and three passengers resting or working separately at the rear. The flat floor allows unrestricted movement between zones. LunаJets confirmed Wi-Fi, HD entertainment and individual cabin management are standard on equipped aircraft. The enclosed aft lavatory provides full privacy throughout;
  • Value-focused operations where remanufactured economics deliver new-specification performance at lower rates. Business Air News confirmed the 400XT/XTi pre-owned price range of $1.5 million to $4.65 million. This lower acquisition cost versus new light jets of comparable performance directly reduces charter rates. Wikipedia confirmed 73 aircraft were converted through 2019 - a fleet depth sufficient for multiple operators in the UK and Europe, providing reasonable availability for charter clients who specifically request the type.

Nextant 400XT vs similar aircraft

  • Nextant 400XT vs Embraer Phenom 300E. The Phenom 300E has a larger cabin (4.92 m vs 4.75 m), more modern Garmin G3000 avionics, stronger factory support from Embraer and a higher new-aircraft value. Charter rates are broadly comparable or slightly lower for the Phenom 300E. The 400XT counters with 447 kt practical cruise (comparable to the Phenom 300E's Mach 0.78), 2,005 nm NBAA IFR range (comparable), the flat floor, a 12 dB quieter cabin than the original Beechjet platform, and the FADEC Williams FJ44-3AP engines providing 32% fuel efficiency improvement over the aircraft's remanufacturing baseline. For speed and range the two aircraft are closely matched;
  • Nextant 400XT vs Hawker 400XPR. The Hawker 400XPR is the direct factory competitor - Textron's official upgrade to the same Beechjet 400A/400XP airframe, introduced in 2017. Both programmes use Williams FJ44 engines and Collins Pro Line 21 avionics. The 400XPR is backed by Textron Aviation's factory warranty and support network. The 400XT/XTi counters with the earlier programme launch (2011 vs 2017), the Nextant two-year whole-aircraft warranty, the 400XTi's winglets and Category IV noise, and a larger existing fleet base (73 aircraft vs fewer 400XPR conversions). For charter clients the programmes are functionally similar; the specific aircraft specification matters more than the programme name;
  • Nextant 400XT vs Cessna Citation CJ3+. The Citation CJ3+ has modern Garmin G3000 avionics, single-pilot certification and a strong global Cessna support network. Charter rates are broadly comparable. The Nextant counters with 447 kt cruise (vs CJ3+'s 416 kt), 2,005 nm range (vs CJ3+'s approximately 1,875 nm), the flat floor (CJ3+ has a conventional cabin floor), the 7-seat divan configuration and the Williams FJ44-3AP FADEC engines providing a fuel efficiency advantage at high-speed cruise. For groups where maximum speed and longer European range matter, the 400XT is the stronger option.
