Private Jet Hire from the United Kingdom
From a London departure lounge the other three capitals are closer than most people expect: Cardiff in about thirty-five minutes, Belfast and Edinburgh in roughly an hour. Private Jets UK plans a British trip as a chain of short sectors, because the United Kingdom is four nations with their own airports, their own handler hours and, in one case, their own pet rules. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Across the kingdom that means pairing the right field with each stop and keeping the handler's hours in view.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in the United Kingdom depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London Farnborough, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ to Cardiff and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to the United Kingdom?
The whole kingdom keeps one clock, Greenwich Mean Time in winter and British Summer Time from spring to autumn, in Belfast and Cardiff as in London and Edinburgh. Dublin keeps it too, while the Continent is an hour ahead, so a morning departure from Paris or Geneva lands in Britain before it left by the local watch. These are typical sectors into the capitals and the London gateway, gate to gate:
76 nautical miles, a hop up the Irish coast, over almost as soon as it beginsabout 30 min
277 nautical miles, from the French capital to the Welsh one, over the Channel and the Bristol Channelabout 1 h
374 nautical miles, over the North Sea to the Scottish capital for a day in the cityabout 1 h 10 min
423 nautical miles, the Swiss run into the south of England, the usual first stop of a longer British programmeabout 1 h 15 min
1,008 nautical miles, the Mallorca summer run to Northern Irelandabout 2 h 35 min
3,106 nautical miles, non-stop on an ultra-long-range jetabout 6 h 50 min
The capitals from London, and what the ground offers instead
A light jet from Farnborough to Cardiff takes about 35 minutes, from Farnborough to Belfast City about 1 hour and from Luton to Edinburgh about 1 hour. The fastest train from London Paddington to Cardiff Central takes 1 hour 44 minutes and a typical one 2 hours 19 minutes, so the jet wins only when the programme is far from the station. Belfast sits across the Irish Sea, where the alternative to the aircraft is a scheduled flight with its own queues.
The rest of the map follows the same pattern. Cardiff to Manchester takes about 40 minutes, Belfast City to Edinburgh about 35 minutes and Cardiff to Edinburgh about 1 hour. Between the four capitals no sector runs much beyond an hour on a light jet, which is why one aircraft can often serve a day that crosses three nations.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– The nations cost the same from London. Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow all lie inside about 300 nautical miles of a London field, so each is quoted at £5,300 on a Citation CJ3+ and £6,800 on a Citation XLS+. The price starts to move only on the long reaches: Farnborough to Inverness is £6,450 and Geneva to Cardiff £7,600, at roughly £1,150 for every further hundred miles on a light jet;
– A trip that touches several nations is priced as a string of legs rather than as one flight. Each landing brings the airport charges and the handler of that field, and a night away adds parking, so a Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh week costs more than three single returns would suggest. We show every leg as a line of its own, together with VAT where it applies.
Private jet flights between the four nations and to the neighbours
The hops that clients ask for most are the ones that join the nations to one another and to the islands around them: Belfast to Glasgow in place of a ferry and a drive, Cardiff to Dublin across the Irish Sea, Aberdeen to Wales for a week that mixes work and rugby. These are the sectors we quote most often:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |

Two things worth knowing about these sectors
– Only a British operator can sell the rows between two British airports. A jet that brings you in from Europe cannot then take you from Cardiff to Edinburgh for payment, so the aircraft that arrived either carries on with an international leg or leaves empty, and the domestic row is quoted on a British-registered aircraft. We name the operator for every leg;
– The neighbours are not all alike. Dublin, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands lie outside the United Kingdom, in the Common Travel Area, and a flight to any of them is an international one for reporting. Belfast to Dublin is short enough to feel like a domestic hop, yet the paperwork of an international flight still applies.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.
Online Calculator
If you want to make an urgent calculation of the cost of a private plane flight, use our online calculator. Just fill in all the fields of the form with a note that you are interested in a specific model of the aircraft and get the final price. NB! - the figures are sent to you by email or messenger, please carefully fill in the contact details to get the calculation.
All our calculations are as transparent as possible for you. After receiving the request, we will prepare a beautiful offer - where the costs and the final price will be clearly described. The exact price is agreed in advance and is written in the contract, so you can be sure of the final cost.
Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for a trip across the United Kingdom:
Turboprops
The aircraft for the links between the nations that a jet cannot justify: Belfast to Glasgow, Birmingham to Cardiff, an island strip. They need little runway and cost the least per hour.
Light jets
The class behind most London to Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh bookings, with three to six people. Belfast City has a runway of 1,829 metres, which a light jet uses with room to spare.
Super-midsize
Where a board of eight or nine settles, and where the arrivals from Switzerland, Spain and Italy end. The range reaches Belfast or Inverness from the Continent without a stop.
Heavy jets
For a delegation, a team or a family with staff. Belfast International has a main runway of 2,780 metres and Cardiff one of 2,354, so the choice of field matters less than the handler's apron on the day.
Ultra-long range
A range this long is wasted between two British cities, so these are the aircraft for arrivals from the Gulf, Asia and North America.

Because every row between two British airports needs a British-registered aircraft, a quote for a multi-nation week often names Farnborough, Manchester or Edinburgh as the place the aircraft starts from, and the positioning flight to you is priced in.

Business aviation airports of the United Kingdom
The kingdom has no single gateway, and the trip usually enters through London before it spreads out. London carries the arrivals from abroad, Manchester and Birmingham join the English regions, and each of the other nations has its own pair or trio of fields. The thirteen rows below are the ones we plan around:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| London: Farnborough, Luton and Biggin Hill EGLF / FAB, EGGW / LTN, EGKB / BQH |
the first leg of most British trips, 12 to 35 miles from the centre | Farnborough has a 2,440 metre runway, Border Force on site, no slots and hours of 07:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 20:00 at weekends. Luton has 2,162 metres, customs round the clock, Signature and Harrods Aviation. Biggin Hill has about 1,800 metres, no slots, hours of 06:30 to 23:00 on weekdays and 08:00 to 22:00 at weekends, and the handlers Executive Handling and Jetex |
| Manchester and Birmingham MAN / EGCC, BHX / EGBB |
the two junctions between the nations and the English regions | Manchester has two parallel runways of more than 3,000 metres, customs on site, Signature (Hangar 7, 06:00 to 22:00 with a call-out) and Weston Aviation, and a slot for every flight. Birmingham has one runway of 3,052 metres, Signature and XLR, normal slot requirements and a noise quota in the night period of 23:30 to 06:00 |
| Edinburgh EDI / EGPH |
about 6 miles west of the centre, 20 to 30 minutes by road | One runway of 2,558 metres, listed as open round the clock with customs and immigration at all hours. Signature runs the business aviation terminal on the north side. Handling is compulsory, prior permission is needed and slots apply, with 48 to 72 hours of notice advised in festival weeks |
| Glasgow and Prestwick GLA / EGPF, PIK / EGPK |
Glasgow about 7 miles west of the centre, Prestwick 32 miles away | Glasgow has a 2,665 metre runway and Gama Aviation as the FBO, listed round the clock with security screening on site. Prestwick has a main runway of 2,987 metres and Prestwick Aviation Services as its only FBO, also round the clock, and little traffic to queue behind |
| Aberdeen ABZ / EGPD |
about 6 miles north-west of the city, at Dyce | A 1,953 metre runway on a field where helicopters make up nearly half of the movements. The Signature centre keeps 06:30 to 21:30 local time, with a call-out outside those hours |
| Inverness INV / EGPE |
about 8 miles north-east of the city | A 1,888 metre runway. Signature serves aircraft over six tonnes from 06:30 to 22:00 with customs and immigration on site, and Highland Aviation handles lighter types. The airport is normally closed from 22:30 to 06:00 |
| Dundee DND / EGPN |
2 miles from the centre | A 1,400 metre runway and customs airport status, run by Highlands and Islands Airports. Light and midsize jets only, and the nearest field to St Andrews and Carnoustie |
| Cardiff CWL / EGFF |
Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, about 12 miles west of the centre | A 2,354 metre runway, open round the clock with customs and immigration at all hours, no slots and no night restrictions. Global Trek Aviation runs the FBO on the south side, with a VIP lounge, crew briefing room, own handling and fuel, and some directories also list Signature. The airport belongs to the Welsh Government |
| Bristol, the Welsh alternate BRS / EGGD |
24 nautical miles from Cardiff | A 2,011 metre runway, Centreline as the business centre and a customs arrival area on site. No curfew, but the night period of 23:30 to 06:00 is capped at 4,000 movements a year. It is the fallback across the Severn for south Wales if Cardiff is unavailable |
| Swansea and Haverfordwest EGFH, EGFE |
west Wales, about 6 miles from Swansea and 2.3 miles from Haverfordwest | Swansea has runways of 1,350 and 857 metres and mostly takes helicopters and private aircraft, and its licence status has changed over time. Haverfordwest has runways of 1,524 and 1,095 metres and takes light aircraft and training. Neither is quoted for a jet until the operator has confirmed it |
| Belfast City (George Best) BHD / EGAC |
3 miles (5 km) from the centre | A 1,829 metre runway, capped at 48,000 movements a year. Jet Assist runs the Business Jet Centre with its own entrance, a private lounge, customs and immigration. The airfield keeps 06:30 to 21:30 every day and the terminal opens from 05:30 |
| Belfast International BFS / EGAA |
about 13 miles (21 km) north-west of the centre | Runways of 2,780 and 1,891 metres, open 24 hours with customs and immigration on site and, by the operator's account, no slot restrictions. Woodgate Aviation runs the private jet terminal with a large hangar, and Global Trek Aviation works round the clock. The field for heavy types |
| City of Derry LDY / EGAE |
13 km from Derry | A 1,969 metre runway and one of the three designated airports of Northern Ireland. We confirm the handler, hours and customs arrangement in writing for each booking |
Four rules settle most multi-nation quotes before they go out:
London sets the clock for the return
Farnborough shuts at 22:00 on weekdays and 20:00 at weekends, Biggin Hill at 23:00 and 22:00. A party that leaves Edinburgh or Belfast late has to be back inside those hours, or land at a field that stays open, such as Luton.
Wales works around one airport
Cardiff is open round the clock with customs at all hours and no slots, so a Welsh booking rarely meets a closed handler. Bristol, 24 nautical miles away, is the standing alternate, and Belfast City and Dundee suit light and midsize jets rather than heavy ones.
Northern Ireland has three designated fields
Belfast International, Belfast City and City of Derry are the airports where the reporting rules for flights within the Common Travel Area are lightest. Belfast City closes its airfield at 21:30, while Belfast International is open all night.
Scotland's handlers close before its airports
Edinburgh, Glasgow and Prestwick list a round-the-clock service, but the Signature centres at Aberdeen and Inverness close at 21:30 and 22:00. After hours the arrival is a call-out and the cost is on the quote.
Flying between the nations: borders, permits and VAT
Great Britain is one customs and immigration area, and Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, so there is no frontier between any two of the four nations. A flight from Cardiff to Edinburgh is a domestic hop, and so is one from Belfast. The handler still takes the passenger names, and photo identification is worth carrying because an airfield or a hotel may ask for it. The rules change at the edge of the kingdom:
no passport, customs or General Aviation Report; the handler takes the names and the aircraft's scheduledomestic
the three designated airports, Belfast International, Belfast City and City of Derry, need no General Aviation Report for a flight within the Common Travel Area; an undesignated airfield needs 12 hours of written notice to the Police Service of Northern Ireland, and a flight with fare-paying passengers needs a further approval that the operator arrangesairport matters
outside the United Kingdom, inside the Common Travel Area, and international for reporting: the operator files a General Aviation Report between 48 and 2 hours before departurereport filed
the report is filed in the same window and the aircraft lands where customs and immigration are available; the electronic travel authorisation for visitors who need no visa covers all four nations, allows stays of up to six months, and is not needed by British and Irish citizensbefore boarding
a first landing at a non-regulated aerodrome can cost £2,500, and each passenger carried without permission £2,000, so every name is checked before the aircraft is releasedoperator risk
Who may fly you, and what the tax says
A foreign operator needs a charter permit from the Civil Aviation Authority. The usual lead time is three business days, the permit office works from Monday to Friday and a permit is valid for 48 hours. Even then, a foreign-registered aircraft cannot sell a leg between two British airports, so the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish rows on this page are flown by British operators, and an international sector in the same booking may be quoted on another aircraft.
VAT on a domestic leg depends on the aircraft. HMRC zero-rates passenger transport within the UK in an aircraft designed or adapted to carry ten or more passengers, crew counted, and treats a smaller layout as standard-rated. The test is the design and the seats fitted at the time of the flight. The quote states the VAT treatment leg by leg.

Which airport for which part of the kingdom
The airport is nearly always settled by one address: a stadium, a course, a glen, a quay. These are the pairings we use across the four nations:
the City, Canary Wharf, Mayfair and the home counties, and the usual door into the kingdom for a flight from abroadFarnborough, Biggin Hill, Luton
the Welsh capital, the Senedd in Cardiff Bay and the ground of the national rugby team; Rhoose is about 12 miles west of the centreCardiff
Celtic Manor, the Ryder Cup resort at Newport, and Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons), with Hay-on-Wye on its north-eastern edge; Bristol serves as the alternate across the SevernCardiff, or Bristol
no business-jet field that we plan around; clients usually land at Liverpool or Manchester and finish by road or helicopterLiverpool, Manchester
Titanic Quarter and the city centre from Belfast City; the airport lies 3 miles from the centreBelfast City
Royal Portrush is about 50 miles from Belfast, with Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway beyond it; the heavier aircraft go to Belfast InternationalBelfast International, Belfast City
Derry and the Donegal border country, 13 km from City of Derry airportCity of Derry
the capital, Murrayfield, and, through Dundee, St Andrews and Carnoustie; Gleneagles lies between Edinburgh and GlasgowEdinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow
Aberdeen for the oil and the Deeside estates, Inverness for Loch Ness, the Speyside distilleries and the Dornoch coastAberdeen, Inverness
Parliaments, fairways and stadiums: why clients cross the kingdom
Business draws the first call, and in four capitals it speaks four accents. London is the City and Canary Wharf, Edinburgh the financial centre and the seat of the Scottish parliament, Cardiff the seat of the Senedd in Cardiff Bay, where the old coal docks have become a waterfront, and Belfast a city whose Titanic Quarter now holds both the Titanic Belfast museum and the studios where Game of Thrones was filmed.
Golf is the second pull and the most international. Celtic Manor near Newport built a course for the Ryder Cup, which Europe won by 14.5 to 13.5 before about 50,000 spectators. Royal Porthcawl on the Bristol Channel has held the Walker Cup, the Curtis Cup and the Senior Open. Royal Portrush is the only club outside Great Britain to have hosted The Open, and the Old Course at St Andrews sits on the same championship rota. A golf party of four to eight is a light or midsize jet with the bags in the hold.
Then the stadiums. The Principality Stadium in Cardiff holds 73,931 under a closing roof and takes the Wales home matches of the Six Nations, the autumn internationals and the largest concerts. The North West 200 in May fills the Antrim coast with more than 150,000 people for a road race on a 14.4 kilometre circuit between Portstewart, Coleraine and Portrush.
The landscape fills the gaps: the 40,000 basalt columns of the Giant's Causeway, protected as a World Heritage Site, the Dark Hedges of County Antrim, the dark-sky reserve of Bannau Brycheiniog and the Pembrokeshire coast, where the national park is mostly shoreline. None of it needs a long sector.
The British year: when the four nations fill and when the weather closes them
Each nation has its own high season, and a good itinerary uses the gaps between them:
short days, the autumn internationals of Wales in Cardiff in November and the Belfast Giants at home through the winter; weather, more than any slot, is what typically moves a departurequiet
the Six Nations opens on the first weekend of February and ends on the second Saturday of March, with two or three home matches in Cardiff; the North West 200, the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in Belfast and the Hay Festival at the end of the month followfirst peak
the Royal Welsh Show and The Open in July, the National Eisteddfod from the first week of August and the Green Man festival in the middle of the month; Edinburgh fills with its August festivals, and the apron space of the small handlers is the first thing to gopeak
the Abergavenny Food Festival in the third week of September, the start of the Belfast Giants season and the stalking season in Scotland; the roads are quieter and the fields easier to booksecond peak
A Six Nations Saturday is a Cardiff problem, not an aircraft problem
Cardiff airport is open round the clock, so a late departure after the final whistle is possible, and a light jet is easy to find. The scarce items are the car and the hotel room near the stadium. For the Champions League final that Cardiff once staged, more than 150 helicopter flights used the city heliport, including a shuttle from Bristol, and that figure shows what a single match day can ask of the last mile. We book the aircraft, the car and, where the date allows, the helicopter as one job.
The calendar of the four nations: rugby, festivals, shows and races
The dated events cluster between February and September, and Wales and Northern Ireland supply many that the London-centred diaries miss:

Flying across the United Kingdom with a dog or a cat
Between England, Scotland and Wales no import rules apply to a dog or a cat, and the animal sits in the cabin with you. The operator has the last word, so we ask in advance and confirm in writing. Northern Ireland is the one place inside the kingdom where the paperwork changes, and a journey from abroad into any of the four nations has its own list.
The Northern Ireland exception
A dog or cat that goes from Great Britain to Northern Ireland travels on a Northern Ireland pet travel document. A Great Britain resident applies for it online at no charge, and the department of agriculture in Belfast expects notice of at least ten working days before the flight. The animal must be microchipped. An animal health certificate is needed only if the journey goes on to Ireland or the European Union, and the way back to Great Britain brings no tapeworm treatment and no checks.
Residents of Northern Ireland are exempt from the document. If the same flight continues from Belfast to Dublin, the rules of Ireland apply from that point, and a dog entering Ireland needs a tapeworm treatment.
Arriving from abroad
A pet coming into Great Britain needs a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old, the travel document that the departure country calls for, a pet travel declaration and, for a dog, a tapeworm treatment from a vet no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours before landing. A pet that does not meet the rules can be held in quarantine for up to four months. A dog that travels directly from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway needs no treatment.
On a private flight the arrival airfield matters as much as the papers: the operator must be authorised to carry pets into Britain and the field needs an entry arrangement. We confirm the entry point and the paperwork in writing before the flight, and we do that field by field, because Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast and the rest do not necessarily share one rule.
- No more than five animals, because a larger number brings the commercial import rules into play;
- A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with the microchip fitted before it or on the same day;
- A vet's travel document from the country of departure, and for a flight that leaves the United Kingdom the certificate that the destination country asks for.
Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. The kingdom produces them in pairs, because a jet that carries a party to one nation has to go back to its base, and the party often wants only one direction.
Where British empty legs come from
– Arrivals from the Continent into Cardiff, Belfast or Edinburgh;
– The days after a rugby weekend or a golf week, when jets that landed full leave empty a day or two later;
– Positioning flights between the English bases of the operators and the fields in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
A client who can offer a few days has a far better chance of a match, though the operator owns the date and a leg can disappear when the original booking changes. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page. A selection of British empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| England (London Luton) - Northern Ireland (Belfast City) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £2,250 |
| France (Paris Le Bourget) - Wales (Cardiff) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £2,250 |
| Ireland (Dublin) - Scotland (Edinburgh) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £2,250 |
| Wales (Cardiff) - Northern Ireland (Belfast City) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £2,250 |
| Switzerland (Geneva) - Wales (Cardiff) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £3,200 |
| Italy (Milan Linate) - Wales (Cardiff) | Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £4,800 |
| Germany (Munich) - Scotland (Edinburgh) | Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £5,450 |
| France (Nice) - Northern Ireland (Belfast City) | Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £7,650 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Challenger 350 from Nice to Belfast City with nine aboard comes to about £850 a head;
– Legs into Wales and Northern Ireland follow the big dates, so a return window of two or three days gives the best chance of a match.

Helicopter charter
Across the kingdom the helicopter is the last mile. London has one licensed heliport, Battersea, and Cardiff has a heliport on Foreshore Road about two miles from the centre, a grass site of 300 metres owned by the city council and operated by the Welsh air ambulance charity. The ambulance flights come first, and any other landing is agreed in advance. Elsewhere the work is a transfer from a jet to a stadium, a course or a lough shore:
from the western business field to central Londonabout 18 min
from the south-east field to the riverabout 12 min
across the Severn, the shuttle route used for a Champions League finalabout 20 min
from the city to the Ayrshire coastabout 20 min
between the two Scottish cities in place of the M8 and M9about 25 min
from the city airport to the one in the north-westabout 15 min
from Belfast Lough to the north-west corner of the provinceabout 35 min
The London times are those quoted by operators; the others are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots plus a few minutes for start-up and landing, and the operator confirms the route for your date.
Two points on rotary legs in the four nations
A landing at a stadium, estate, hotel or course needs the landowner's agreement and, on a big date, a booking through the organiser. Across the Irish Sea and the Pennines low cloud keeps a helicopter on the ground before a jet, so a car stays as the fallback.

British charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
CARDIFF · A SIX NATIONS SATURDAY
Six friends and a match
London Farnborough - Cardiff, Citation CJ3+, about 35 min · 6 pax
The party flew out on the morning of the match and landed at an airport that is open all day and night, so the evening departure after the final whistle needed no call-out. Farnborough closes at 20:00 at weekends, so the aircraft was positioned back to Luton, where customs are listed round the clock.
ROYAL PORTRUSH · THE GOLF WEEK
Eight golfers and their bags
London Luton - Belfast International, Citation XLS+, about 1 h · 8 pax
Belfast International was chosen for its longer runway and the all-night opening of the airfield, and the coach ran up the coast to Portrush, about 50 miles away. The return was left open for a day, in case the weather moved the final round.
THREE NATIONS · ONE DAY
A board meeting in Edinburgh, Belfast and Manchester
Edinburgh - Belfast City - Manchester, Citation CJ3+, about 35 min and 40 min · 4 pax
Three short sectors ran on one aircraft, with a handler booked at each field and the 21:30 closing of Belfast City as the limit for the last landing. None of the legs crossed a border, so no General Aviation Report was filed.
BELFAST TO DUBLIN · A SHORT HOP
Two partners and a lunch in Dublin
Belfast City - Dublin, Citation CJ3+, about 30 min each way · 2 pax
Ireland lies outside the United Kingdom, so the operator filed a General Aviation Report in the window of 48 to 2 hours before departure, even though the flight is over in half an hour. The return left Dublin before the Belfast City airfield closed.
WITH THE DOG · TO NORTHERN IRELAND
A couple, a labrador and a long weekend near Portrush
London Luton - Belfast City, Citation CJ3+, about 55 min · 2 pax + dog
The dog travelled on a Northern Ireland pet travel document, which the owners applied for online, and the department in Belfast was told ten working days ahead of the flight. The return to Great Britain needed no tapeworm treatment, and we confirmed the papers in writing the day before.
EMPTY LEG · AFTER THE RUGBY
A flexible return to London
Cardiff - London Farnborough, Citation CJ3+ empty leg, about 35 min · 3 pax
The client gave us a window of two days after the match weekend instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid about £2,250, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter on the same sector, for a Monday departure.
Frequently asked questions about flying in the United Kingdom
1How long does it take to fly by private jet across the United Kingdom?
From London Farnborough a light jet takes about 35 minutes to Cardiff and about 1 hour to Belfast City, and from Luton about 1 hour to Edinburgh. Between the other capitals the sectors run from 35 minutes to 1 hour. The whole kingdom keeps British time, an hour behind most of Europe.
2How much does a private jet in the United Kingdom cost?
From about £5,300 one way on a light jet from London Farnborough to Cardiff. Any sector under about 300 nautical miles meets the minimum charge, so Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow from a London field cost the same on that aircraft. Longer sectors follow the distance: Paris to Belfast City from £7,250 and Geneva to Cardiff from £7,600. A turboprop on a hop such as Belfast City to Glasgow is from £3,100.
3Which airports do private jets use in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland?
In Wales the airport is Cardiff, open round the clock, with Bristol as the alternate. In Scotland the main fields are Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick, Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee. In Northern Ireland they are Belfast International, Belfast City and City of Derry. In England, London has Farnborough, Biggin Hill and Luton, with Manchester and Birmingham behind them.
4Do I need a passport or customs for a private flight within the United Kingdom?
No. A flight between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland crosses no border. For Northern Ireland the three designated airports need no General Aviation Report within the Common Travel Area, while a flight to or from Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey or Guernsey is international for reporting and the operator files the report between 48 and 2 hours before departure. Visitors from abroad who need no visa hold an electronic travel authorisation, which British and Irish citizens do not need.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Northern Ireland?
Yes. From Great Britain a dog or cat needs a Northern Ireland pet travel document, which a Great Britain resident applies for online at no charge, with notice to the department of agriculture in Belfast at least ten working days before the flight. The return to Great Britain needs no tapeworm treatment. Between England, Scotland and Wales no import rules apply. We confirm the paperwork in writing.
6Can a foreign aircraft fly me between two British cities?
No. A foreign-registered aircraft cannot sell a leg between two British airports, so domestic legs are flown by British operators and an international sector in the same booking may use a different aircraft. VAT on a domestic leg depends on the aircraft: HMRC zero-rates it for an aircraft designed or adapted to carry ten or more passengers, crew counted, and treats a smaller layout as standard-rated.
