Private jet charter to Iceland
Private Jets UK flies clients from Britain into Iceland, where Reykjavik has two airports and the useful one depends entirely on how big your aircraft is. Our customers have access to 6500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. For 15 years of successful work, we have established partnerships with the world’s largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you the most favorable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The aircraft we send to Iceland come mostly from the London fields, and we arrange departures from across Britain when the trip starts outside the capital.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Iceland depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated based on the following data: departure from Inverness Airport, a Citation CJ3+, two passengers. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Iceland?
Iceland is a long crossing of open water and the departure field in Britain changes it more than anything else. These are the figures gate to gate:
664 nautical miles, the shortest crossing from anywhere in Britainabout 2 h
721 and 728 nautical milesabout 2 h 10 min
748 nautical miles from bothabout 2 h 15 min
893 nautical milesabout 2 h 30 min
1,005 nautical miles from Luton and 1,041 from Biggin Hill2 h 40 to 2 h 45 min
1,023 nautical miles, straight to the north without the capitalabout 2 h 50 min
Three hundred and forty miles that decide the cabin class
Inverness sits 664 nautical miles from Keflavik and Luton 1,005. That is forty minutes in the air and, more importantly, a cabin class: a light jet does the shorter sector comfortably where the same party from London wants something larger. Range itself is never the problem, since everything we quote reaches Iceland with fuel to spare. What the distance changes is the aircraft you need underneath you, and that is where the money goes.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Two things worth knowing about these figures
– The shorter northern sectors run a cabin class lighter than the London ones for the same party, which is why they sit where they do in this table;
– Two of these lines do not go to Keflavik at all. Reykjavik City puts you inside the capital and Akureyri lands you in the north without the four hour drive, and both are worth asking about before the airport is settled.
Private jet flights within Iceland
Iceland is larger than Ireland with a population smaller than Bristol, and the ring road takes two days to drive properly. That is what internal flying here is for:
| Route | Aircraft | Flight time | Price, one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keflavik - Reykjavik City 20 nm / 36 km |
Airbus H125 helicopter up to 5 |
about 15 min | from 2,400 EUR |

| Reykjavik City - Egilsstadir 205 nm / 380 km |
Beechcraft King Air 350 up to 9 |
about 1 h | from 7,100 EUR |
| Keflavik - Akureyri 153 nm / 283 km |
Citation CJ2+ up to 6 |
about 50 min | from 7,600 EUR |
| Keflavik - Egilsstadir 225 nm / 417 km |
Citation CJ2+ up to 6 |
about 1 h | from 8,400 EUR |
Two things worth knowing about the internal sectors
– Almost all of it flies out of Reykjavik City rather than Keflavik, because the domestic network is based there and the strips at the far end are short. Turboprops and small twins do this work, not jets;
– Weather cancels more Icelandic legs than any other factor and it does so at short notice, so a road or a scheduled seat stays arranged behind every internal booking. The empty legs here come mostly from aircraft repositioning after exactly that.
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:
- Large jet (similar to Legacy 600) - from 5800 to 6800 EUR per flight hour;
- Business liners - from 12100 EUR per flight hour;
- Light jet - from 2500 to 3500 EUR per flight hour;
- Long-haul jet (similar to Global 5000, Gulfstream G550, Falcon 7X, etc.) - from 6800 to 10400 EUR per flight hour;
- Medium-sized jet (identical to Cessna Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP, etc.) - from 3500 to 4400 EUR per flight hour;
- Turboprops - from 1000 EUR per flight hour.
- Large medium-class jet (similar to Challenger 300, etc.) - from 5400 to 6500 EUR per flight hour;
- Small jet, from 2000 to 2900 EUR per flight hour;

Also, we have prepared a table with the general prices of the most popular planes:

Private jets are ready to take off
Turboprops and island types
The class that flies inside Iceland. Short strips, gravel in places and a domestic network based at the city airport mean this is what actually serves the regions.
Light jets
Comfortable on the shorter British sectors and workable from London, and the class that fits Reykjavik City rather than being sent out to Keflavik. Range is never the constraint here; the runway is.
Super-midsize
Where the English departures settle. Enough cabin for a two hour crossing of open water, and the Latitude is the largest type we routinely put into the city airport.
Heavy jets
For a larger party and for the southern English fields, where the sector runs past a thousand nautical miles. These go to Keflavik or Akureyri, never to the city airport.
Ultra-long range
Common at Keflavik, which has been a transatlantic staging point since the war and still takes fuel stops between Europe and North America at any hour.

Business aviation airports in Iceland
Iceland has a short list of fields and a very clear division between them: one takes everything, one is in the city, and the rest are small, seasonal and weather-dependent. These are the ones a private jet from Britain actually lands at:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Keflavik KEF / BIKF |
45 minutes to Reykjavik | The international gateway and the field that takes anything flying. Two intersecting runways, Category II and III approaches, a round the clock FBO and fuel at any hour. It has staged transatlantic traffic since the war and still does, at any hour of the night. Reykjavik is the drive at the other end |
| Reykjavik City RKV / BIRK |
5 minutes to the centre | The domestic hub, inside the city and walking distance from the harbour. Two short runways, so light and midsize aircraft only, and it closes overnight. Heated hangarage and customs on the field |
| Akureyri AEY / BIAR |
5 km to the town | The capital of the north, taking anything up to a large cabin and rarely busy. An FBO on the field with customs handled inside it, and the ski hill and whale coast within the hour |
| Egilsstadir EGS / BIEG |
the eastern fjords | The east coast field, taking midsize types, and the arrival for Vatnajokull and the eastern glaciers. A long way from the capital by road and an hour by air |
| Isafjordur IFJ / BIIS |
the Westfjords | A short strip hemmed in by a fjord, flown visually and by turboprop only. It closes on weather more often than any field we use in Iceland |
| Vestmannaeyjar VEY / BIVM |
the southern island | The Westman Islands, twenty minutes off the south coast, with a short runway and frequent wind. Turboprops and small twins |
| Hofn and Husavik HFN and HZK |
the south-east and the north | Hofn for the glacier lagoon at Jokulsarlon, Husavik for the whale coast. Both are small, both are daylight fields, and both are quoted with an alternate |
The city airport is five minutes away, and that is the whole question
Reykjavik has two airports and the difference between them is the sharpest we deal with anywhere. Keflavik is forty-five minutes out by road with runways over three thousand metres and a Category III approach, so it lands anything in almost any weather and never closes. Reykjavik City sits inside the capital itself, and its longest runway is 1,567 metres. That takes a light or midsize cabin comfortably and rules out everything larger. It also shuts overnight. Where the party fits the smaller aircraft, the city field saves an hour and a half of driving on a two-night trip; where it does not, or where the forecast is poor, Keflavik is the answer and the drive is part of the plan.
Which airport for which part of Iceland
Most of what people come to Iceland for is a long way from the capital, and the ring road is slower than the map suggests. These are the pairings behind most of our Icelandic bookings:
if the aircraft fits the runway, nothing in Europe lands you closer to a capitalReykjavik City, 2 km
the lagoon is nearer the international airport than it is the cityKeflavik, 22 km
customs on arrival, so the capital drops out of the itinerary entirelyAkureyri
the far side of the island, and a full day by road from the capitalEgilsstadir
the most remote corner, reached by turboprop and cancelled by weather more than mostIsafjordur
both work, and the choice comes down to the aircraft rather than the geographyReykjavik City or Keflavik
Akureyri clears customs, which changes the northern trip entirely
Most clients assume Iceland means Reykjavik and then four hours in a car to reach the north. Akureyri is a designated point of entry with a 2,400 metre runway and instrument approaches from both ends, so a flight from Edinburgh or London lands there directly and the formalities happen inside the terminal on the field. For anyone going whale watching, skiing at Hlidarfjall or up to Lake Myvatn, that is most of a day recovered at each end. It is the single most useful thing to know about flying to Iceland and almost nobody asks about it.
Three things that shape an Icelandic booking
– Winter is a season here rather than an off-season. The northern lights run from September to April and the darkest months are the busiest, which is the reverse of most countries on this site;
– Weather moves faster than the schedule. A forecast that looks settled in the morning can close a regional strip by lunchtime, so we hold an alternate on every internal leg rather than on the difficult ones only;
– Fuel and handling are expensive here by European standards, which is why an Icelandic quote can look high for the distance flown. We show the whole figure rather than the sector alone.

Flying to Iceland with a dog or a cat
Iceland is the hardest country on this site to bring an animal into by private jet, and the difference is not a matter of degree. This section is worth reading before anything else if a pet is part of the plan.
The one fact to read before you book
Iceland quarantines imported animals. An import permit has to be granted in advance, the animal travels as manifested cargo rather than in the cabin, and on arrival it goes into a government quarantine facility for a period set by the authorities rather than by the owner. This is not the European system with a certificate and a worming tablet; it is a closed island regime designed to keep out diseases the country does not have. A dog cannot simply fly out with you on the aircraft and come back a week later. If you are considering it, the conversation with us and with the Icelandic authorities needs to start well before the flight is booked.
What this means in practice for most clients is straightforward: the dog stays at home. We say so plainly because several brokers do not, and an owner who arrives at the aircraft with an animal and no permit is not going to be flying that day. The rules are published by the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and they are enforced without exception.
applied for before travel, and granted rather than assumedrequired in advance
the animal travels as manifested cargo, which several other countries allow us to avoidnot permitted
in a government facility, for a period set by the authoritiesrequired
the paperwork, the permit and the quarantine booking all run ahead of the flightmonths rather than weeks
Requirements for the European destinations, where the process is a certificate and a vet appointment rather than a quarantine, are set out on our flying with pets guide.
Types of flights
Our company provides all types of business flights. Due to a wide variety of jets, we can arrange:
- private flights;
- corporate flights;
- business class flights;
- concert tours;
- medical flights (with doctors and special equipment on board);
- tourist flights for large and small groups;
- sports charters for teams and coaching staff;
- combined flights (partly by business jet, and partly by helicopter);
- exclusive flights on luxury jets for businessmen, celebrities, and politicians;
- cargo flights, etc.
A flexible approach and a wide experience allow us to solve problems of any complexity. In 90% of cases, we manage to arrange urgent flights (on the day of application). But to be sure, we recommend you send a request at least 2-5 days before the desired date of departure.

Empty Legs
Another way to fly cheaper is to use Empty Legs. This service allows you to save on regular charter rates. As you know, part of the flights is one-way (for example, when the passenger flies from England to Iceland). After the flight, the jet returns to its home base (for example, to London Farnborough airport) empty. Such flight is called “Empty Legs”. Empty leg flights can be as cheap as 50-75% off the standard charter price. This option is profitable for both the passengers and the charter companies. The clients can enjoy the services of business aviation at a very good price, while the airlines recoup part of the cost of fuel and jet maintenance.
It is almost impossible to find Empty Leg flights, as the information about them is stored in special databases available only to the aviation brokers and specialized companies. You should know that Empty Leg flights offer the same service as private jet charters. The passengers enjoy a 100% private jet flying experience. Services and flight conditions are discussed individually. We should note that our company cooperates with the world’s largest home bases, so we can offer our clients a wide choice of return flights. Just send a request to our manager who will help you find the best flight options. Please note that Empty Leg flights are sold out very quickly. To avoid such a problem, you can leave us a deposit, and we will contact you as soon as the flight of your choice becomes available. For additional information, check with the operators.
A selection of empty legs that have run on the Icelandic routes recently. Dates are left off, since a leg lasts only until somebody claims it:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Iceland (Keflavik) - UK (Inverness) | Cessna Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | 5,800 EUR |
| UK (Glasgow) - Iceland (Keflavik) | Embraer Phenom 300E | 8 seats | 6,800 EUR |
| Iceland (Keflavik) - UK (Belfast) | Bombardier Learjet 75 Liberty | 8 seats | 7,400 EUR |
| UK (Edinburgh) - Iceland (Akureyri) | Cessna Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | 8,200 EUR |
| Iceland (Keflavik) - UK (Leeds Bradford) | Embraer Praetor 600 | 9 seats | 9,500 EUR |
| UK (Bristol) - Iceland (Keflavik) | Cessna Citation Latitude | 9 seats | 10,600 EUR |
| Iceland (Keflavik) - UK (London Luton) | Bombardier Challenger 350 | 9 seats | 11,700 EUR |
| Iceland (Keflavik) - UK (London Farnborough) | Bombardier Challenger 605 | 12 seats | 13,600 EUR |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Challenger 605 home from Keflavik at 13,600 EUR carrying twelve works out at a little over eleven hundred a head;
– Set each line beside the same class in the tables above. A Challenger 350 home to Luton at 11,700 EUR against 28,400 for a fresh charter is the saving in plain terms;
– Iceland produces fewer of these than the Nordic mainland, simply because fewer aircraft go there. A standing window with us catches far more than watching a page does.

Jet Sharing
Today, Jet Sharing is just as popular as private jet charter. This service involves the joint rental of a business jet with other passengers (that is, the cost of the flight is divided equally between all passengers of a specific flight). This type of flight has become especially popular in the last few years. Many people like Jet Sharing because it allows you to enjoy all benefits of business aviation at favorable prices.
We should note that the number of passengers per Jet Sharing flight varies from 3 to 8, while the cost of the flight ranges from 1400 to 7100 euros (depending on the destination). This way, you can get a comfortable flight on a business jet (and maybe even meet new business partners) at a very good price. You can check out the schedule of Jet Sharing flights by filling in the online form or contacting our operators by phone or WhatsApp.
Main advantages of this service:
- All privileges of business aviation, including the use of the business aviation terminal and the check-in 30 minutes before the flight, are retained;
- You can also use the services of the VIP Lounge (included in the price of the flight);
- No baggage restrictions;
- Affordable price: jet sharing is much cheaper than private jet charter;
- Pets travel in the cabin on most of our routes, though Iceland is the exception set out above.
Our consultants will be happy to help you choose the best flight.

Helicopter charter
Iceland is the one country on this site where the helicopter is often the point of the private jet trip rather than the transfer to it. Glaciers, craters and the interior have no roads at all:
though the drive is only twenty minutes, so this one is bought for the viewabout 10 minutes
the geothermal country, and quicker than the road in winterabout 20 minutes
Thingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss in a morning rather than a dayabout 25 minutes
Langjokull and the ice caps, where there is no road and no alternative30 to 45 minutes
the black beaches, Seljalandsfoss and the volcanic ground behind themabout 40 minutes
The machines that work here
– Airbus H125 is the Icelandic workhorse and the type behind almost every glacier and sightseeing leg, because it holds performance on high ground;
– Bell 407 for a party of five or six on the longer tours, roomier and quieter over an hour;
– Twin-engine types where the route crosses water or the interior at distance from a landing site.
Two points on Icelandic rotary legs
– Wind rather than cloud governs this. A glacier landing needs settled air as well as visibility, and both can vanish in an hour, so these legs are booked with a spare day behind them wherever the itinerary allows;
– Winter daylight in Reykjavik runs to about four hours in late December, and in those weeks it is the light rather than the weather that shortens the flying day.

We practice transparency and are always ready to present all necessary documents.

If you have any financial questions, feel free to contact our private aviation consultants.
If you need to book an urgent flight, please keep in mind that the bank transfer can take a few days. In such situations, we may need to involve our partner companies so that you can pay for your flight in cash. If you have any questions, you can contact your personal consultant 24/7.

What our clients say about flying to Iceland
A few words from people who have made these trips with us. First names only, and the wording is theirs.
THE CITY AIRPORT
“We landed five minutes from the hotel”
Luton to Reykjavik City · Citation Latitude · Sophie B.
“I had not appreciated how genuinely urban the city airport in Reykjavik is: it sits so close to the centre that we could have walked to the hotel. The drive took five minutes. After friends’ stories of the forty-five minute run in from Keflavik, that is a pleasure all of its own.”
THE NORTH
“Straight to Akureyri, no four hour drive”
Edinburgh to Akureyri · Citation XLS+ · Robert and Ann
“On a clear day this flight is a sightseeing tour in itself: mountains, glaciers and lava fields under the wing. Honestly, we wished it lasted longer. Customs was cleared inside the FBO in a couple of minutes, and there was no four hour drive north from Keflavik at the end of it.”
FROM INVERNESS
“Inverness made it a different price”
Inverness to Keflavik · Citation CJ3+ · Duncan H.
“Excellent service and a genuinely noticeable saving against the London quotes. The sector from Inverness is shorter, and that was reflected honestly in the price rather than kept as margin. Second time flying with them and completely satisfied.”
THE DOG QUESTION
“They told me not to, and explained why”
Farnborough to Keflavik · Challenger 605 · Marianne K.
“I asked whether we could bring the dog and was told, kindly, not to, with the reason spelled out: every animal entering Iceland goes into quarantine for a minimum of two weeks, the stations book up in advance, and for a fortnight’s holiday it makes no sense at all. I appreciated being talked out of it honestly rather than sold a headache. He spent two weeks with my sister and appears to have forgiven us.”
WEATHER
“They held a spare day and we needed it”
Glasgow to Keflavik · Phenom 300E · Peter L.
“Expectations were set from the start: nobody controls the weather in Iceland, so a spare day and a fallback went into the plan. The wind did close our departure, and we flew the next day without any drama, because that scenario had been talked through in advance rather than happening to us out of nowhere.”
EMPTY LEG
“Home from Keflavik for less than half”
Keflavik to Luton · Challenger 350 · Nicholas W.
“My first private flight happened thanks to an empty leg. The experience was incredible, for a fraction of the usual price. I never thought it was this accessible.”
Frequently asked questions about flying to Iceland
1How long does it take to fly to Iceland by private jet?
Around two and three quarter hours from London to Keflavik and about two and a half from Manchester or Birmingham. Inverness is closer to two hours, and Edinburgh or Glasgow about two and a quarter. The further north the departure, the shorter the crossing.
2How much does a private jet to Iceland cost?
From about 14,200 EUR one way from Inverness to Keflavik on a light jet, and 16,700 EUR from Edinburgh. London to Keflavik starts around 28,400 EUR on a super-midsize cabin. Internal Icelandic sectors start at about 2,400 EUR.
3Can a private jet land in Reykjavik city itself?
Yes, at Reykjavik Airport, which is five minutes from the centre and two kilometres from the harbour. Its longest runway is 1,567 metres, so it takes light and midsize aircraft and not the larger cabins, and it closes overnight. Anything bigger uses Keflavik, forty-five minutes away by road.
4Is it worth flying straight to the north of Iceland?
Usually, if the north is where you are going. Akureyri is a designated point of entry with a 2,400 metre runway, so a flight from Britain clears customs there directly and saves the four hour drive from Reykjavik at each end. It suits whale watching, the Myvatn geothermal area and the ski hill at Hlidarfjall.
5Can I bring my dog to Iceland?
Not in the way you can bring one to France or Spain. Iceland requires an import permit granted in advance, the animal travels as cargo rather than in the cabin, and it goes into government quarantine on arrival. This is a closed island regime rather than the European certificate system, and it needs planning months ahead.
