Current status of private jet flights to Russia

Direct flights between Britain and Russia are not operating, and the journey is made in two stages - the position as of August 2026

– Since March 2022 the United Kingdom and Russia have applied reciprocal airspace restrictions to each other’s operators. British-registered aircraft are not admitted to Russian airspace, Russian-registered aircraft are not admitted to British airspace, and the same pattern applies between Russia and the European Union, the United States and Canada. There have been no scheduled or charter services between the two countries since;

– Alongside the airspace position, United Kingdom sanctions restrict the provision of aviation services connected with Russia. A charter arranged by a British company into a Russian airport falls within those restrictions, which is why no British broker offers one and why any operator claiming otherwise should be treated with caution;

– What has not changed is that Russia remains well connected internationally. Around sixty foreign carriers serve Russian cities in 2026, and the connecting network through the Caucasus, Central Asia, Turkey and the Gulf is dense, frequent and straightforward to use. The journey has two legs instead of one, and both are ordinary commercial flying.

This page is therefore organised around that two-stage journey. We fly the first leg, from any British airport to a gateway city, and the second is a scheduled flight operated by a carrier of that country. The CIS gateways are the ones most of our clients use, because the onward flights are frequent, the airports are small enough to connect through quickly, and visa requirements for transit are light for most nationalities. Yerevan, Baku, Astana and Tashkent all fall into that group, with Istanbul and Dubai as the larger alternatives.

How long does it take to fly to Russia?

The arithmetic is the sum of two legs. London to Yerevan is about four and a half hours in our aircraft, and Yerevan to Moscow about two and a half in a scheduled cabin, so the door to door figure with a connection is usually nine to ten hours. Through Istanbul it is shorter, through Central Asia longer. The times below are for the part we fly.

– Astana is 1,244 nautical miles from Moscow and Tashkent 1,518, both with regular services operated by Kazakh and Uzbek airlines;

– Istanbul at 922 nautical miles and Dubai at 2,004 are the larger hubs, with the widest choice of departures and the most frequent onward flights of any gateway on this list;

– The onward leg is a scheduled flight sold by the carrier operating it. We arrange the charter to the gateway and can time it to the connection, and we say plainly where our part of the journey ends.

1Can a British company charter a private jet directly to Russia?

No. Reciprocal airspace restrictions have been in force since March 2022: British-registered aircraft are not admitted to Russian airspace and Russian-registered aircraft are not admitted to British airspace. United Kingdom sanctions separately restrict the provision of aviation services connected with Russia. Both apply to a charter arranged in Britain, whatever route it takes.

2How do people actually travel there now?

In two stages. A flight to a gateway city, then a scheduled service operated by a carrier of that country. Around sixty foreign airlines serve Russian cities in 2026, and the connections through Yerevan, Baku, Astana, Tashkent, Istanbul and Dubai are frequent and well established. We fly the first leg and can time it to the connection.

3Which gateway is the most practical?

For most of our clients, Yerevan or Baku. Both are close to Russia, both have several daily services to Moscow and St Petersburg, the airports are small enough to connect through quickly, and transit requirements are light for most nationalities. Istanbul and Dubai offer more departures, at the cost of a longer transfer inside a much larger airport.

4How much does the first leg cost?

From about 19,500 EUR one way from London to Istanbul, from about 26,400 EUR to Yerevan and from about 33,900 EUR to Baku, each buying the whole aircraft. Astana, Tashkent and Dubai are longer sectors and priced accordingly. The onward ticket is bought separately from the operating carrier.

5Could direct flights resume?

That depends on the airspace arrangements and the sanctions framework, neither of which is a matter for a charter company to forecast. What we can say is that we check the position at every enquiry and will update this page as soon as it changes.
