Private jet charter in Poland

Take off from London City at eight in the morning and a light jet is on the ground in Warsaw at about twenty past eleven local time: the flight takes 2 h 20 min, and Polish clocks run one hour ahead of Britain. Polish charters turn on that gain, and on a country larger than the whole United Kingdom, where the big cities lie hundreds of kilometres apart and a dozen airports can receive a business jet with customs on site. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In Poland that means matching the airport to the address, from the Warsaw offices to the Tatra slopes and the Baltic beaches, agreeing the handler before the slot is requested, and keeping a second field in reserve.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Poland depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London City, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ to Warsaw and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Poland?

Central European Time puts Poland one hour ahead of Britain throughout the year, since both change their clocks on the same weekends, so a two-hour flight lands with the arrival clock three hours on. Flight times from London City on a light jet, gate to gate:

London to Poznań
646 nautical miles, the west of the country, with a 2,504 metre runway about five kilometres from the centre
about 1 h 55 min
London to Wrocław
656 nautical miles, Lower Silesia, with a 2,503 metre runway and passport control in the VIP lounge
about 1 h 55 min
London to Gdańsk
713 nautical miles, the Baltic coast, with a 2,800 metre runway and customs round the clock
about 2 h 05 min
London to Katowice
748 nautical miles, Silesia, with a 3,200 metre runway and a general aviation hangar
about 2 h 10 min
London to Kraków
781 nautical miles, the south, with a 2,550 metre runway and a dedicated VIP terminal
about 2 h 15 min
London to Warsaw
805 nautical miles, the capital and the main gateway, with runways of 3,690 and 2,800 metres
about 2 h 20 min

A day trip to Warsaw is long, but it works

The sector to Warsaw is 2 h 20 min each way on a Citation CJ3+. A wheels-up at seven therefore lands at twenty past nine by British time and twenty past ten in Poland, which leaves most of the day for meetings. A departure from Warsaw at five in the afternoon local time is back in London City at about twenty past six, British time.

Departures from the north take longer. Manchester is 877 nautical miles from Warsaw against 805 from London City, Edinburgh 918 and Belfast City 1,005. On a light jet that adds ten minutes from Manchester, a quarter of an hour from Edinburgh and half an hour from Belfast.

The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Why the Polish end matters to the price

– The Polish end moves the price by thousands of pounds. Poznań is 159 nautical miles closer to London City than Warsaw, Gdańsk 92 and Kraków 24, which on the same Citation CJ3+ comes to about £1,850 less into Poznań, £1,050 less into Gdańsk and £300 less into Kraków. The nearer airport only pays when the trip really ends near it;

– A quote for a Polish airport shows the handler, the airport charges, the operator's permit and, in winter, de-icing as lines of their own. When two quotes for the same route differ, the gap usually sits in those lines and not in the flying.

Private jet flights within Poland and to its neighbours

Poland covers about 313,000 square kilometres, and Warsaw, Kraków, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Poznań lie roughly 250 to 490 kilometres apart in a straight line. By road the same distances take hours, which is where a jet pays. These sectors come up most often, each with a suitable aircraft:

Notes on the internal sectors

– Legs between two EU airports cannot be flown by a British-registered aircraft, because paid carriage inside the EU is reserved for EU-licensed operators. The jet that brought you from London usually waits or returns empty, and a Polish or other EU operator takes the next leg; the quote names the operator;

– A jet earns its fee on the longer sectors, to Gdańsk, Kraków and Wrocław and to the capitals of Berlin, Prague, Vilnius and Copenhagen, and less on the short ones. Hops between Schengen states normally carry no passport check on arrival, although temporary controls at some internal borders can change that, and the handler confirms the position for your date.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Poland:

Turboprops

Suited to internal hops. From London to Warsaw a turboprop needs about 3 h 20 min, so it is not the aircraft for the main sector. Polish regional runways are 2,500 metres or more, which leaves range as the only limit.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Light jets

Four to six passengers flying London to Warsaw, Kraków or Gdańsk will usually be in this class. At 650 to 880 nautical miles it flies the sector in any season with reserves for a diversion.

Cessna Citation M2 · 7 seatsfrom £2,200/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h

Super-midsize

The usual choice from Scotland and Northern Ireland, and for parties of eight or nine. The larger fuel margin helps on winter mornings at Kraków, when ice can delay a departure.

Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h

Heavy jets

Delegations, teams and families with staff. Warsaw, Katowice and Rzeszów have runways of 3,200 metres or more; the limits are apron space and, at Warsaw and Kraków, the slot.

Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Embraer Legacy 650 · 13 seatsfrom £4,600/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Ultra-long range

Range of this order is wasted on a two-hour sector, so these appear when Poland is one stop on a longer itinerary.

Dassault Falcon 900LX · 12 seatsfrom £5,400/h
Bombardier Global 6000 · 13 seatsfrom £6,400/h
Gulfstream G550 · 16 seatsfrom £6,700/h
Gulfstream G650ER · 14 seatsfrom £7,700/h

Internal and cross-border legs need an EU-registered aircraft, so a quote for a multi-city trip in Poland often names a Polish or German base for the second aircraft.

Business aviation airports in Poland

Poland has more than a dozen airports where a business jet can arrive from Britain. Nearly all have runways of 2,500 metres or more; what separates them is the slot system, the hours of customs and the handler on duty:

Airport Ground How it operates
Warsaw Chopin
WAW / EPWA
about 10 km from the centre Runways of 3,690 and 2,800 metres, open round the clock, with customs, slot-coordinated and handling mandatory. Business aircraft use a separate general aviation terminal, where directories list Welcome Executive and Excel Handling, with LS Airport Services and Baltic Ground Services alongside
Warsaw Modlin and Radom
WMI / EPMO, RDO / EPRA
35 to 40 km and about 100 km from Warsaw Modlin has a 2,500 by 60 metre runway, listed customs and no slot requirement, with Welcome Airport Services as handler; its hours are listed inconsistently, so night use is confirmed in writing. Radom, a shared civil and military field, has no business aviation handler that we could find
Kraków
KRK / EPKK
about 11 km west of the centre A 2,550 by 60 metre runway, open round the clock with customs, slot-coordinated and handling mandatory. The airport runs a VIP terminal and business lounge, Excel Handling sits airside, and LS Airport Services is also listed. A shuttle train reaches the main station in about 17 minutes
Katowice Pyrzowice
KTW / EPKT
about 34 km north-north-east of Katowice A 3,200 metre runway, open round the clock with customs, slot-coordinated and handling mandatory. The operator is approved for general aviation handling and has a business customer service, fast tracks, lounges and a hangar of three bays. LS Airport Services and Excel Handling are listed
Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa
GDN / EPGD
about 12 km from the centre A 2,800 by 45 metre runway, customs and immigration listed round the clock, no slot required. Welcome Airport Services is the handling agent, with LS Airport Services and Excel Handling also named; hangars take aircraft up to a Boeing 737-900 and de-icing is listed round the clock
Wrocław
WRO / EPWR
about 10 km west of the centre A 2,503 metre runway and a separate general aviation terminal, where passport and customs control are carried out in the VIP lounge. No slot is required. LS Airport Services, Euro Jet and Excel Handling are listed
Poznań Ławica
POZ / EPPO
about 5 km west of the centre A 2,504 metre runway shared with the airlines, with slots coordinated only from 22:00 to 06:00 local time and handling mandatory. A press report describes a small general aviation team in the old terminal, with passport control on the spot
Łódź Reymont
LCJ / EPLL
about 6 km south-west of the centre A 2,500 metre runway with listed customs, mandatory handling and no slot, but the field is listed only from 06:00 to 22:00 UTC, so a late arrival is checked in advance
Rzeszów Jasionka
RZE / EPRZ
about 8 km north of the centre A 3,200 by 45 metre runway with a Category II approach. Customs and immigration are listed round the clock and no slot is required, but handling and de-icing are listed only from 04:00 to 23:00 UTC in the older aeronautical entry
Lublin Świdnik
LUZ / EPLB
about 10 km east of the centre A 2,520 by 45 metre runway with a Category II approach to runway 25. The airport provides ground handling itself, with separate lounges for Schengen and non-Schengen passengers. One directory lists hours of 06:00 to 18:00 UTC with 48 hours' notice outside them
Szczecin and Bydgoszcz
SZZ / EPSC, BZG / EPBY
about 45 km and about 4 km from their cities Both have a 2,500 metre runway, listed customs and no slot requirement. Handling is mandatory at Bydgoszcz, where Excel Handling is named. They serve the north-west and the Bydgoszcz area; for the coast Gdańsk is the better choice
Olsztyn-Mazury
SZY / EPSY
at Szymany, about 10 km from Szczytno A 2,500 metre runway at the edge of the Masurian lakes. Customs are listed and handling is mandatory, but hours are given by NOTAM, so a stay is arranged days ahead

Four checks come before any quote for a Polish airport:

Land at an airport of entry

A flight from outside Schengen must arrive at a designated airport of entry. The directories give that status to every field in the table except Radom, and we confirm it for your date.

Slots at four fields

Warsaw, Kraków and Katowice are listed as slot-coordinated, and Poznań in its night window. The other fields in the table are listed without a slot requirement, apart from Radom, for which we found no entry.

Handling comes first

Handling is mandatory at most of them, and the handler is named before the permission and the slot are requested.

Hours and winter

Łódź, Lublin, Rzeszów and Olsztyn-Mazury have set hours, listed in UTC or by NOTAM, and Poland is one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer. From November to March snow and icing are the norm, so de-icing time goes into the departure.

Warsaw at night: the rule behind the departure time

Chopin is listed as open all night, yet every movement there needs a slot. Its local rule, as we last read it, limits the hours between 22:00 and 06:00 with noise quota points and closes the core night, 23:30 to 05:30, to ad hoc and positioning flights. A late dinner in the city therefore has a hard stop at about half past eleven, and a general aviation slot that slips by more than two hours has to be issued again.

The options are an early departure, a late movement cleared in writing with the coordinator beforehand, or Modlin as the alternate. We settle which before the offer.

The east of the country: keep an alternate in the plan

Rzeszów and Lublin lie near the eastern border. On occasion air traffic control has halted civil flights at both for some hours so that military aviation has priority, and resumed them the same morning; such measures are short and can recur. A trip to either field therefore carries a named alternate before departure: Kraków from Rzeszów, about 170 km by road, or Rzeszów from Lublin, about 160 to 175 km, and the handler at the alternate is warned in advance.

Arriving from Britain: passports, customs and what to carry

Poland is in the European Union and the Schengen area; Britain is in neither. A flight from London therefore counts as arriving from outside Schengen, and the passport and customs checks happen at the first Polish airport where you land, whichever it is.

Passports
British citizens can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa; the passport must be less than ten years old on arrival and valid for at least three months after the planned departure from the Schengen area
every passenger, children included
Entry/Exit System
first-time visitors may have fingerprints and a photograph taken, free of charge, and the record lasts three years; children aged 11 or under are only photographed
allow a few extra minutes
Authorisation
the British government's advice for Poland does not mention the EU's ETIAS online authorisation; if it applies to a British passport on your travel date, you hear it from us before the offer, not at the airport
we check for your date
Dual nationals
a British-Polish citizen must enter and leave Poland on the Polish passport or identity card, because border guards sometimes accept the British passport on arrival and refuse it on departure
check before you pack
Declarations
cash of ten thousand or more in the EU's own currency must be declared on entry; meat, milk and their products may not be brought into the EU, apart from baby food and food needed for medical reasons
declare when in doubt

Permits, and the paperwork for the way home

A broker's charter is a commercial flight, so an operator from outside the EU needs the permission of the Polish Civil Aviation Authority. One permission covers between one and nine non-scheduled flights; the operator applies at least three working days before the first, and handlers advise allowing three to five. Some private flights under bilateral arrangements need only a notification. The operator must also hold the European aviation safety agency's third-country operator authorisation. We run the application with the operator and show it as a line in the quote.

The way home is a flight into Britain, so a General Aviation Report must reach the border authorities between 48 and two hours before departure. British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation; most other nationalities do, so a passenger with a different passport should tell us at the start.

Which airport for which part of Poland

Distances in Poland are long enough that one address usually decides the airport: the office in the capital, the hotel in Kraków's Old Town, the chalet in Zakopane, the yacht on the Masurian lakes. Typical pairings, with straight-line distances where the road matters less:

Warsaw and Mazovia
the offices of the centre and the Old Town; Chopin is about 10 km from the centre and the road takes 20 to 30 minutes outside the rush hour, while Modlin is the fallback at 35 to 40 km
Warsaw Chopin
Kraków and Lesser Poland
the Old Town, Kazimierz and the Wieliczka salt mine; Katowice is about 80 km away, an hour to an hour and a quarter by car
Kraków
Zakopane and the Tatras
the resort has no airport; Kraków is about 106 km by road and a private transfer takes one and a half to two hours, three to four on a Friday evening, and in winter the road can close; the straight line is only about 87 km
Kraków
Silesia
conferences at the Congress Centre, concerts at the Spodek and the industrial belt around Katowice; the airport is about 34 km out
Katowice
The Tricity and the Baltic coast
Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia run into one another; the town of Hel at the tip of the peninsula is about 34 km away and the castle of Malbork about 52 km to the south-east
Gdańsk
Wrocław and Lower Silesia
the Market Square, the Centennial Hall and the castles of the region; Szklarska Poręba in the Karkonosze is about 100 km away in a straight line and 140 km by road, 1 h 45 min to 2 h 30 min
Wrocław
Poznań and Wielkopolska
the trade-fair grounds and the Old Market; Gniezno, the first capital, is about 53 km to the east and 30 minutes by train
Poznań
Masuria
the lake district; Mikołajki is about 55 km and Giżycko about 82 km from Szymany in a straight line, whereas from Warsaw the road to either takes about four hours
Olsztyn-Mazury or Warsaw
Lublin, Kazimierz Dolny and Zamość
Kazimierz Dolny on the Vistula is about 54 km and Zamość, a World Heritage site, about 69 km from the airport in a straight line
Lublin
Podkarpacie and the Bieszczady
Łańcut castle is about 15 km from the Rzeszów airport, Krosno 55 to 65 km, Lake Solina about 100 km and the village of Cisna about 115 km, two hours by road
Rzeszów

Warsaw, Kraków, the Baltic and the mountains: what our clients go for

Most of the business is in Warsaw, where the Varso Tower, at more than 310 metres the tallest building in the European Union, dominates the skyline. The typical trip is short and professional: two nights, a board meeting or a conference, and the flight home from the same general aviation terminal. From May to September free Chopin recitals are played in the Łazienki park on Sundays at noon and four in the afternoon.

Kraków is the second kind of trip. Its Old Town was among the first sites on the World Heritage List, the Wawel hill and the Jewish quarter of Kazimierz sit within a short walk, and the Wieliczka salt mine, also a World Heritage site, is a half-day outing.

Katowice and Silesia are the industrial heart of the country, with a metropolitan area of about 2.5 million people. The city has turned its mining past into a cultural quarter: the Spodek arena, named for its saucer shape, the concert hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Silesian Museum and the former mining district of Nikiszowiec.

The north is a different country. Gdańsk, with its Royal Way, the Long Market and the Crane, shades into the resort of Sopot, which has the longest wooden pier in Europe, and the port of Gdynia. The Hel peninsula, a strip of sand about 35 km long, carries one road and one railway. Wrocław is known for the Centennial Hall and the dwarf figures hidden all over the old town, and Poznań for its trade fairs and the goats that butt heads on the town hall at noon.

Then there are the mountains and the lakes. Zakopane lies at the foot of the Tatras, where Rysy reaches about 2,500 metres. Masuria has about 2,000 lakes, among them Śniardwy and Mamry, the largest in Poland, and Mikołajki calls itself the country's sailing capital; in a hard winter the sailing continues on ice.

The Polish year: ski slopes, amber beaches and autumn fairs

The country average runs from about -1 degree in January to about 20 in July. The coast is busiest in summer, the mountains in winter and again in August, and the business cities work all year:

December to February
the Tatra ski season runs from December to March and peaks in January and February, the Christmas markets of Kraków, Wrocław and Gdańsk open in late November, and ice sailing starts on the Masurian lakes when they freeze
winter
March to May
the amber fair in Gdańsk and the first trade fairs in Poznań in March, Holy Week in Kraków, jazz in Wrocław in April, and the Chopin concerts in Łazienki from May
spring
June to August
the Baltic and the Masurian lakes fill, Tatra hikes run from June to September with August the most crowded month, and July in Gdańsk averages about 18 degrees
summer peak
September to November
September is the best month in the Tatras and brings the Warsaw marathon and the film festivals, the Poznań fairs run through the autumn, and 1 and 11 November are public holidays
autumn

Ice and slots, the two operational seasons

From November to March snow and icing are normal on the Polish airfields, and de-icing is built into the departure time. A morning departure after a freezing night needs the handler's time, so a client with a fixed return in January or February should expect to be asked for the departure time early. In summer the pressure is on the slot at Warsaw, Kraków and Katowice, and a Friday or Sunday movement is requested as early as possible.

The Polish calendar: public holidays, fairs and the Chopin competition

Poland's dated events are many, though few stop an airport, and each moves hotels and cars:

January
The Epiphany holiday on 6 January and a World Cup round of ski jumping on the Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane
February to May
The BUDMA and Meble Polska fairs in Poznań, the Amberif amber fair in Gdańsk, Holy Week in Kraków, Jazz on the Oder in Wrocław and the long weekend of 1 and 3 May
Late May to June
The Łańcut music festival at the castle, Orange Warsaw, the Malta Festival and the Pyrkon convention in Poznań, and the Jewish Culture Festival in Kraków
July
The Open'er festival in Gdynia, four days on the Kosakowo airfield, the Carnaval Sztukmistrzów in Lublin at the end of the month, and the three-week Dominican Fair in Gdańsk, which runs into August
1 August
The anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising: at five in the afternoon the city observes a minute of silence, sirens sound, and traffic and trams stop
August

How events change a flight plan

No event here closes an airport. The effect falls on hotels and drivers, and at Warsaw and Kraków each landing still needs its slot. Poznań's fair weeks show it best: city hotel prices rise two to three times and rooms go two or three weeks ahead, so anyone who wants a quiet stay books the hotel before the aircraft.

Flying to Poland with a dog or a cat

A dog or cat flies in the cabin, and the paperwork follows the standard European pattern. The planning points are which airport receives the animal and when the dog is treated before the flight home.

The one fact to read before you book

Poland admits pets from outside the EU only at designated points of entry, where customs carry out the inspection. The European Commission's list names twelve airports: Warsaw Chopin, Warsaw Modlin, Kraków, Katowice, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Poznań, Łódź, Rzeszów, Lublin Świdnik, Szczecin and Bydgoszcz. Olsztyn-Mazury and Radom are not among them. Poland's veterinary authorities hold their own version of the list, so we confirm in writing which airport will receive the animal.

The return is governed by British rules: a dog needs a vet's tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain, and Poland has no exemption. Without the right paperwork a dog or cat can be quarantined for up to four months.

  • An ISO microchip, implanted before or together with the rabies vaccination; a vaccination dated earlier is not valid;
  • A rabies vaccination from 12 weeks of age, with 21 days between the injection and travel;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for non-commercial movement, issued by an official vet no more than ten days before arrival in the EU and valid for the return as the certificate states. A British pet passport is not accepted;
  • The owner's signed declaration that the journey is not commercial. Up to five animals per traveller; more are treated as a commercial consignment;
  • For a dog, the tapeworm treatment above. Poland does not require a treatment on entry, and no import permit or blood test is listed for animals from Britain.

Cats need the same list without the worming. We ask the handler to confirm that the animal can be received on the day and at the hour.

Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a positioning flight with no passengers, sold at a fraction of the normal charter price. Poland yields them steadily, since so many trips there are one-way.

Where Polish empty legs come from

– Corporate trips to Warsaw that end the same evening: the aircraft either waits or leaves empty, and the leg back to Britain or to a neighbouring capital is the one most often offered;

– Winter weekends in the Tatras and summer weeks on the Baltic, when aircraft that brought a party to Kraków or Gdańsk on a Friday return empty on the Saturday or the Monday;

– The weeks around the large fairs and festivals, such as the Poznań trade fairs and the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, when operators position aircraft for arrivals and send them home empty afterwards.

Clients with a few days to spare are the ones who match, and a leg can vanish if the original booking changes. Whatever is free is on our empty legs page. A selection of Polish empty legs follows:

Route Aircraft Capacity Whole aircraft
Poland (Warsaw) - UK (London City) Citation CJ3+ 7 seats £4,650
UK (London Stansted) - Poland (Gdańsk) Citation XLS+ 9 seats £5,150
UK (Birmingham) - Poland (Poznań) Citation XLS+ 9 seats £5,200
Poland (Wrocław) - UK (Manchester) Citation XLS+ 9 seats £5,400
UK (London Luton) - Poland (Katowice) Citation XLS+ 9 seats £5,550
UK (Edinburgh) - Poland (Kraków) Challenger 350 9 seats £8,200

How to read those figures

– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Challenger 350 from Edinburgh to Kraków with nine aboard comes to about £900 a head;

– Polish legs cluster around the fairs and the ski weekends, so an open return date helps.

Helicopter charter

Helicopter work in Poland is built around the Warsaw Babice airfield, where one operator lists Bell 407 helicopters, which take five passengers, and an Airbus H130. Its quoted one-way times show how far the coast and the mountains are from the capital, and below them are our own estimates for short hops from the main airports:

Warsaw Babice to Gdynia
on the Baltic coast, in a Bell 407; the Airbus H130 is quoted at about 1 h 30 min
about 1 h 25 min
Warsaw Babice to Zakopane
the Tatra resort, in place of a drive of many hours
about 1 h 40 min
Gdańsk to Hel
the airport to the tip of the Hel peninsula, in place of the single road down it
about 20 min
Kraków to Zakopane
the airport to the foot of the Tatras
about 35 min
Wrocław to Szklarska Poręba
the airport to the Karkonosze ski area, in place of a drive of about two hours
about 35 min
Olsztyn-Mazury to Mikołajki
the airport to the sailing capital of Masuria
about 25 min

The first two times are those quoted by the operator, and the rest are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots, which the operator confirms for your date.

Notes on helicopter landings in Poland

A landing at a hotel, estate or lakeside away from an airport needs a landing site agreed in advance. The Tatras are a national park on both sides of the border, and the Slovak park authority has complained about low sightseeing flights by Polish helicopters, so a mountain transfer is planned to an agreed site and depends on the weather. On ski weekends and in high summer the seats go first, so book the helicopter with the jet.

Polish charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.

WARSAW · A DAY TRIP

Two directors, a morning meeting and home by evening

London City - Warsaw and return, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 20 min each way · 2 pax

Wheels up at seven, on the ground at twenty past ten by the Polish clock, a meeting in the centre and a departure in the late afternoon. The handler requested the slot the day before, and the return was planned well clear of the late-night window.

POZNAŃ · TRADE FAIR

Three buyers and a week of stands

Manchester - Poznań, Citation XLS+, about 2 h · 3 pax

The airport lies about 5 km from the centre of the city. A fair week lifts hotel prices in Poznań two to three times, so the party booked its rooms weeks before the aircraft.

KRAKÓW · THE TATRAS

Six friends and a ski week in Zakopane

London Luton - Kraków, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 10 min · 6 pax

The party flew on the Thursday and stayed in Kraków, then drove south the next morning, to avoid the Friday evening queue that stretches the 106 km road to three or four hours.

GDAŃSK · A SUMMER WEEK

A family of five and a villa in Sopot

London Stansted - Gdańsk, Citation XLS+, about 2 h · 5 pax

The airport is about 12 km from the centre of Gdańsk, and Sopot with its pier lies next door. The family spent a day on the Hel peninsula, where one road and one railway serve the whole strip.

WITH THE DOG · AN APPROVED POINT

A couple, a spaniel and a week in the Karkonosze

Biggin Hill - Wrocław, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 50 min · 2 pax + dog

Wrocław is among the airports where pets may enter, so the spaniel was presented there with a certificate issued within ten days of arrival and the owners' declaration. A Wrocław vet gave the tapeworm treatment the day before the flight home.

EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN

A weekend in Kraków with an open date

Kraków - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 05 min · 3 pax

The client offered a three-day window rather than a fixed date, which is what makes these legs work, and paid about £4,650 for a Monday departure, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Poland

1How long does it take to fly to Poland by private jet?

A light jet takes about 2 hours 20 minutes from London to Warsaw, 2 hours 15 minutes to Kraków and 1 hour 55 minutes to Poznań. Polish clocks are an hour ahead of Britain all year.

2How much does a private jet to Poland cost?

From about £11,100 one way from London City to Warsaw on a light jet. Kraków is about £300 less and Poznań about £1,850 less on the same aircraft. Warsaw to Gdańsk is from £5,950 on a light jet, and winter de-icing is quoted as a line of its own.

3Which airports do private jets use in Poland?

Warsaw Chopin is the usual gateway, with a separate general aviation terminal and a slot system. Kraków has a VIP terminal, Katowice a 3,200 metre runway and a general aviation hangar, and Gdańsk, Wrocław and Poznań serve the north, the south-west and the west. The handler is agreed first, and where a slot is needed it is requested with the handler.

4What are the passport, customs and permit rules for a private flight from Britain to Poland?

Poland is in the EU and Schengen, so passport control and customs take place at the first Polish airport. British citizens may stay 90 days in any 180 without a visa, on a passport under ten years old and valid three months beyond departure. A charter by a non-EU operator needs the Polish Civil Aviation Authority's permission, applied for by the operator at least three working days ahead.

5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Poland?

Yes. The animal needs an ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination given after the chip and at least 21 days before travel, an Animal Health Certificate issued by an official vet within ten days of arrival, and the owner's declaration that the journey is not commercial. It must enter through a designated airport, among them Warsaw, Kraków, Katowice, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Poznań. A dog needs tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing back in Britain.

6Can I fly into Warsaw late at night?

Yes, with planning. Chopin is listed as open all night, but each movement needs a slot, and under the airport's local rule as we last read it the core night, 23:30 to 05:30, is closed to ad hoc and positioning flights. We confirm any late movement in writing before you pay; Modlin is the usual alternate.
