Private jet charter to Sweden
Sweden is long enough that the flying time from London runs from under two hours to just over three: 1 h 45 min to Gothenburg on a light jet, 2 h 20 min to Stockholm and 3 h 15 min to Kiruna, above the Arctic Circle. Swedish clocks run one hour ahead of Britain, so a morning departure lands before lunch. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. In Sweden the work is mostly a matter of choosing the right end of a long country: the capital, Gothenburg, the Öresund coast, the ski slopes of Jämtland or the iron-ore town of Kiruna, each with its own handler, its own hours and its own winter.

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Sweden depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.
You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:
- using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
- via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
- by landline or cell phone;
- via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).
Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from London City, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ to Stockholm Arlanda and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.
How long does it take to fly to Sweden?
Central European Time puts Sweden one hour ahead of Britain all year, because both countries change their clocks on the same weekends. A flight of two hours therefore lands with the clock three hours on. These are the times from London City on a light jet, gate to gate, to the airports that matter most:
554 nautical miles, the Öresund coast, with a 2,800 metre runway and a handler's VIP loungeabout 1 h 40 min
585 nautical miles, the west coast, with a runway of about 3,300 metres and two dedicated business aviation handlersabout 1 h 45 min
762 nautical miles, the island of Gotland, with a 2,000 metre runwayabout 2 h 15 min
806 nautical miles, the capital, with Arlanda for everything and Bromma for the city centreabout 2 h 20 min
873 nautical miles, the airport for Åre and the Jämtland ski resorts, with a 2,500 metre runwayabout 2 h 30 min
1,122 nautical miles, Swedish Lapland on the Gulf of Bothnia, with a runway of about 3,350 metresabout 3 h 05 min
1,190 nautical miles, the far north, the Icehotel and the Arctic Circle, with a 2,500 metre runwayabout 3 h 15 min
Which trips fit inside a working day
Stockholm is 2 h 20 min each way on a Citation CJ3+. Wheels up at seven in the morning puts the jet on the ground at twenty past ten by Swedish clocks, which leaves the middle of the day for a meeting. A departure at five in the afternoon is back in London City at about six, British time. Gothenburg is shorter still, at 1 h 45 min, and Malmö at 1 h 40 min, so a lunch in either is within reach of a London breakfast.
Departures from the north of Britain are no longer. Edinburgh lies 741 nautical miles from Arlanda against 806 from London City, Newcastle 717 and Manchester 795. The price follows the aircraft more than the departure point, which is why the table below puts a Latitude from Manchester well above a CJ3+ from London City on almost the same distance.
The exact flight time depends on the model of the business jet, as well as the speed of the tail or head wind. Our consultant will make a detailed calculation of the flight time for the chosen business jet.

Why the Swedish end moves the price
– On the same Citation CJ3+ from London City, Gothenburg costs about £8,550, Malmö about £8,150, Åre Östersund about £11,900 and Kiruna about £15,600, against £11,100 for Stockholm. That is £2,550 saved by landing in Gothenburg and £4,500 added by going to Kiruna. The nearer airport only pays when the trip really ends near it;
– A Swedish quote shows the handler, the airport charges, the operator's traffic permit and, from late autumn to spring, de-icing as lines of their own. When two quotes for the same route differ, the gap usually sits in those lines and not in the flying.
Private jet flights within Sweden and to its neighbours
The country is long, and the cities lie far apart: Stockholm is about 400 kilometres from Gothenburg in a straight line, about 550 from Malmö and about 950 from Kiruna. By road or rail the same distances run to hours, and the northern ones to a night. These are the sectors that come up most, each with a sensible aircraft:

Notes on the internal sectors
– A flight between two Swedish airports, or between Sweden and another EU state, is paid carriage inside the EU and is reserved for EU-licensed operators. The jet that brought you from London usually waits or returns empty, and a Swedish or other EU operator takes the next leg. The quote names the operator;
– A turboprop is the efficient aircraft for the Swedish hops: Gothenburg, Östersund and Visby are all 50 minutes to an hour and a quarter in a Pilatus PC-12, and the saving over a jet on those distances is large. For Kiruna a jet is the better tool, because the sector runs to an hour and a half and a turboprop would take well over two;
– Hops between Schengen states normally carry no passport check on arrival, and the handler confirms the position for your date.
We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Due to a large database of available business jets, we can help you find an optimal jet and crew. If you have any questions about the departure or the flight itself, you can ask them using the form below:
Prices depending on the type of business jet
We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

The cost per hour indicated in the table is preliminary and does not constitute an offer or a commercial offer. Exact prices are available from the managers of the company.

Private jets are ready to take off
Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Sweden:
Turboprops
The tool for Swedish distances. From London to Stockholm a turboprop needs about 3 h 20 min, so it is not the aircraft for the crossing, but within the country it matches a jet on time over the shorter sectors and costs far less. Åre Östersund, Visby and Gothenburg have runways of 2,000 metres or more.
Light jets
Four to six passengers flying London to Stockholm, Gothenburg or Malmö will usually be in this class. It is also the class that sits most easily with Bromma's noise limits.
Super-midsize
The usual choice for parties of eight or nine, for ski luggage bound for Åre and for the long flight to Kiruna, where a larger fuel margin helps in winter. The hold fills faster than the seats on a Swedish trip, with skis, boots and heavy coats.
Heavy jets
Delegations, boards and families with staff. Arlanda, Landvetter, Luleå and Sturup have runways of 2,800 metres or more, which suits these aircraft; Bromma, with a runway of 1,668 metres, does not.
Ultra-long range
Range of this order is wasted on a two-hour sector, so these appear when Sweden is one stop on a longer itinerary.

Internal and cross-border legs need an EU-registered aircraft, so a quote for a multi-city trip in Sweden often names a Swedish, Danish or Norwegian base for the second aircraft.

Business aviation airports in Sweden
Sweden has a dozen airports where a business jet can arrive from Britain, but only a handful that matter to most clients. Runways are long, mostly 2,000 metres or more; what separates the airports is the handler, the hours and the way the airport treats noise:
| Airport | Ground | How it operates |
|---|---|---|
| Stockholm Arlanda ARN / ESSA |
about 37 km north of the city | Runways of 3,301 and 2,500 metres, open round the clock, with no noise or weight restriction. Movements are slot-controlled with a tolerance of 15 minutes, and the request goes in 24 hours or more ahead. Business aircraft use ASE Handling, whose own pages give the FBO desk hours as 07:00 to 22:00, or Grafair Jet Center on Ramp J, listed round the clock. Customs and immigration are cleared through the main terminal, with a fast track by prior arrangement for a fee |
| Stockholm Bromma BMA / ESSB |
about 7 km north-west of the centre | One runway of 1,668 metres and the airport that business travellers choose when the diary sits in the city. It limits noise to an average of 89 EPNdB and, according to one trip-support source, approach speed to 120 knots, so the exact aircraft is checked first. Listed hours are roughly 07:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and shorter at weekends. No slot is required; customs needs notice of at least four hours through the FBO. Grafair and IFLY FBO handle business aircraft |
| Skavsta and Västerås NYO / ESKN, VST / ESOW |
about 100 km and 110 km from Stockholm | Nyköping Skavsta has runways of 2,878 and 2,039 metres, and Västerås Hässlö one of 2,581 metres, with a lot of general aviation. Both serve as relief fields when Arlanda is full. Customs and hours are not published in a form we could verify, so each is confirmed before we quote |
| Gothenburg Landvetter GOT / ESGG |
about 20 km east-south-east of the city | A single runway of about 3,300 metres, open round the clock and listed as an airport of entry with customs. Handling is mandatory and the airport is listed as slot-coordinated. Two business aviation handlers sit on the field: JIVAIR Executive Jet Services at Hangarvägen 2B and Landvetter Jet Center, a joint venture of the airport group and a flight-services company, advertised as open round the clock. It is also one of only two airports where a pet may enter the country |
| Malmö Sturup MMX / ESMS |
about 25 km east-south-east of Malmö | A runway of 2,800 metres, open round the clock, with customs available and no slot requirement. Allied Aero Services Sweden is the business aviation handler, with a VIP lounge and apron access, and Aviator Airport Services does the ground handling. Copenhagen lies across the Öresund, and its airport is about 20 minutes by train from Malmö Central |
| Ängelholm-Helsingborg AGH / ESTA |
about 7 km north of Ängelholm | A runway of 1,945 metres, with customs listed, though outside tower hours a prior permission is shown. The airport is listed as slot-coordinated, and the handler named locally is FCG OPS Ängelholm Handling. The airport serves Helsingborg and the tennis town of Båstad, and is a light-jet and midsize field |
| Åre Östersund OSD / ESNZ |
about 8 km west of Östersund | A runway of 2,500 metres, with hours given by NOTAM and handling by Swedavia Ground Handling, which includes marshalling, stairs and baggage. One directory lists the airport as an airport of entry with customs and another does not, so for a first landing from Britain we agree the position in writing. The resort of Åre lies about 100 km to the west |
| Luleå LLA / ESPA |
about 5 km south of the town | A runway of about 3,350 metres, the longest in the north. Customs are listed, and neither a slot nor handling is required, but the field is not open round the clock: the listed hours are Monday to Friday 04:45 to 23:00 UTC, Saturday 06:00 to 19:00 and Sunday 07:00 to 23:00. Handling is by Swedavia Ground Handling |
| Kiruna KRN / ESNQ |
about 5 km east-south-east of the town | A runway of about 2,500 metres in the far north, with customs listed and hours given by NOTAM. A slot is listed as required, and handling is by Swedavia Ground Handling. This is the field for the Icehotel, 17 km from town, and for the mountains around Abisko |
| Visby VBY / ESSV |
about 4 km north-east of the town | A runway of 2,000 metres on the island of Gotland, with customs listed and hours given by NOTAM. A slot is listed as required and handling is by Swedavia Ground Handling. The airport fills in Almedalen Week and again in the Medieval Week, so a stay is arranged days ahead |
Four checks come before any quote for a Swedish airport:
Land where customs is
A flight from outside Schengen clears passports and customs at its first Swedish landing. Arlanda, Landvetter and Sturup are the usual choices, and for any other field we confirm the customs listing and the notice it needs.
Slots at Arlanda and Landvetter
Arlanda is slot-controlled with a tolerance of 15 minutes, and Landvetter is listed as slot-coordinated. Directories also list a slot for several regional fields, which the handler confirms.
Handling comes first
Swedavia asks for a handler or a self-handling agreement before a business aircraft lands, so the handler is named before the permission and the slot are requested.
Hours and winter
Bromma, Luleå, Kiruna, Visby and Åre Östersund have set hours or hours by NOTAM, usually in UTC, and Sweden is one hour ahead of UTC in winter and two in summer. De-icing time goes into the departure from late autumn to spring.
Bromma: the airport beside the city, with conditions
Bromma is where most Stockholm business people want to land. It sits about 7 km from the centre and a car takes 10 to 15 minutes. Its price is a set of restrictions. Aircraft must average no more than 89 EPNdB across three measurement points, the airport caps movements at 80,000 a year, ground running of engines and the auxiliary power unit is limited, and noise-abatement routes keep aircraft above 2,000 feet over the centre.
A midsize jet that is quiet enough is welcome. A heavy jet or an older light jet may not be, and we know which only after checking the exact aircraft. If the answer is no, Arlanda is 35 minutes from the centre by road and has no such limits, so the price of the refusal is about twenty minutes in the car.
Far north: the choice between Luleå and Kiruna
Kiruna is the closer to the Icehotel and the mountains, but its hours are by NOTAM and a slot is listed. Luleå has the longest runway in the country and published weekday hours from early morning to about midnight local time, and it is about 265 km in a straight line from Kiruna, so a stay can begin at one and end at the other. We name an alternate before departure.
Arriving from Britain: passports, customs and what to carry
Sweden belongs to the European Union and to the Schengen area; Britain belongs to neither. A flight from London is therefore an arrival from outside Schengen, and passport control and customs take place at the first Swedish airport where you land, whichever it is.
British citizens can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. The passport must have been issued less than ten years before arrival and be valid for at least three months after the planned departure from the Schengen areaevery passenger, children included
first-time visitors may be asked to register fingerprints and a photograph, free of charge, and the record lasts three years; children aged 11 or under are only photographedallow a few extra minutes
the British government's travel advice for Sweden does not mention the EU's ETIAS authorisation; if it applies to a British passport on your travel date, you hear it from us before the offer, not at the airportwe check for your date
Sweden has controls in place on some routes between Schengen states, among them travel from Denmark over the Öresund bridge and ferries from Denmark and Germany, which matters if you land in Copenhagen and drive onask before a mixed itinerary
cash or travellers' cheques worth ten thousand or more in the EU's own currency must be declared; meat, milk and their products may not be brought into the EU, apart from baby food and food needed for medical reasonsdeclare when in doubt
Permits, and the paperwork for the way home
A broker's charter is a commercial flight, so an operator from outside the EU needs a traffic permit from the Swedish Transport Agency. The agency asks for the application at least 48 hours before a single charter, and a series of flights is covered for 14 days. The operator supplies an insurance certificate and pays the airport charges, and must hold the European safety agency's third-country operator authorisation. A private flight with no payment from the passengers follows different rules, which we confirm separately before the offer.
The way home is a flight into Britain, so a General Aviation Report must reach the border authorities between 48 and two hours before departure. British and Irish citizens need no electronic travel authorisation; most other nationalities do, so a passenger with a different passport should tell us at the start.

Which airport for which part of Sweden
In a country this long one address usually decides the airport: the office in Stockholm, the hotel by the harbour in Visby, the chalet at Åre, the cabin near the Icehotel. Typical pairings, with straight-line distances where the road matters less:
offices, Östermalm and the Nobel events in the centre; Bromma is 10 to 15 minutes by car, Arlanda about 35 minutesBromma or Arlanda
the outer islands, Sandhamn among them, about 56 km east of Bromma in a straight line and reached by ferry or by helicopter; the archipelago has more than 24,000 islands and skerriesBromma or Arlanda
Liseberg, the harbour and the southern archipelago, with ferries from Saltholmen to islands such as Styrsö, about 30 km from the airport in a straight lineGothenburg Landvetter
the tennis stadium of the Swedish Open is about 25 km from Ängelholm-Helsingborg airport by road, 14 km in a straight lineÄngelholm-Helsingborg
the fixed link to Copenhagen is 16 km long, and Copenhagen Airport is about 20 minutes by train from Malmö CentralMalmö Sturup
the walled town of Visby is 4 km from the airport; the alternative is a ferry of about three hours from Oskarshamn or NynäshamnVisby
the airport lies about 100 km east of the resort, and a transfer typically takes a little over an hourÅre Östersund
the Icehotel at Jukkasjärvi is 17 km from the town; Abisko is 86 km north-west of the airport in a straight lineKiruna
the long runway of the north, with the airport 5 km from the town and published hours that run late into the eveningLuleå
Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and the north: what our clients go for
Most of the business is in Stockholm. The typical trip is short and professional: two nights, a board meeting or a conference, and the flight home from the same terminal. The Nobel announcements come in the first week of October, and the ceremony itself, held at the Concert Hall on 10 December, fills the city's hotels. The banquet that follows takes place in the Blue Hall of City Hall, with some 1,300 guests.
Gothenburg is the second kind of trip. Volvo was founded here and Volvo Cars is still the city's largest employer, so engineers, suppliers and visiting buyers pass through the airport all year. The Port of Gothenburg is the largest in the Nordic countries. For leisure there is Liseberg, the biggest amusement park in Scandinavia by number of rides, and the southern archipelago a ferry ride away.
Malmö faces Denmark. The Turning Torso, 190 metres high, dominates the harbour, and the Öresund bridge carries trains and cars to Copenhagen. The city has three times held the Eurovision Song Contest, the only non-capital to do so.
Further out the destinations are of a different kind. Visby on Gotland is a World Heritage site, and its medieval wall runs for 3.4 km around the town. Åre has more than 30 lifts, has held the Alpine World Ski Championships three times and has hosted over a hundred World Cup events. Kiruna, a town of roughly 17,000 people, is built on the Kiirunavaara iron-ore mine of LKAB, and the town centre is being moved about 3 km east because the mining causes the ground to subside. The Esrange space centre lies nearby, and the Icehotel at Jukkasjärvi, 17 km from the town, is rebuilt each year from blocks of ice and open between December and April.
The Swedish year: ski slopes, midnight sun and Midsummer
The Swedish year has two faces. In Kiruna the average January daytime maximum is about -8 degrees and the July one about 18, and the south has a milder year. The north is busiest in winter, the south and the islands in summer, and the business cities work all year:
the Nobel week and ceremony in Stockholm, the Icehotel and the northern lights season in Lapland, the polar night in Kiruna from 11 December to 1 January, the Gothenburg Film Festival in January and the ski season at Årewinter
Vasaloppet, the 90 km ski race from Berga near Sälen to Mora, on the first Sunday of March with about 15,800 starters in the main race, the Stockholm Marathon in May and the Åre bike park opening on 1 Mayspring
the midnight sun in Kiruna from 28 May to 16 July, Midsummer on the Friday between 19 and 25 June, Almedalen Week in Visby at the turn of June and July, the Swedish Open in Båstad in July, the Medieval Week in Visby in week 32 and the Malmö Festival in the third week of Augustsummer peak
the Gothenburg Book Fair in September, the largest literary festival in Scandinavia, the Nobel announcements in the first week of October and the Stockholm Open tennis in mid-Octoberautumn
Ice and daylight, the two operational seasons
From late autumn to spring snow and icing are normal at the northern airfields, and de-icing is built into the departure time. Around the turn of the year the Kiruna sun stays below the horizon, and landings and departures are planned for the hours of twilight; in the midnight sun daylight is no constraint, and the limit is the airport's own hours. A client with a fixed return in January should expect the handler to ask for the departure time early.
The Swedish calendar: Nobel week, Midsummer and the summer festivals
Sweden's dated events are many, though none closes an airport, and each moves hotels and cars:
How events change a flight plan
No event here closes an airport. The effect falls on hotels, drivers and handler capacity. Visby is the sharpest case: Almedalen Week and the Medieval Week fill the town and the apron, so anyone planning a stay on Gotland books the hotel before the aircraft and asks the handler about parking.

Flying to Sweden with a dog or a cat
A dog or cat flies in the cabin, and Swedish paperwork follows the standard European pattern. What decides the trip is the airport: Sweden admits an animal arriving from outside the EU at only two airports, Arlanda and Landvetter, so a private flight to a ski resort or the far north starts with a landing at one of them.
The one fact to read before you book
A dog or cat arriving directly from Britain must come in through an EU entry point, which in Sweden means Stockholm Arlanda or Gothenburg Landvetter. Malmö Sturup, Åre Östersund, Kiruna, Luleå and Visby are not on the list. The animal clears Arlanda or Landvetter first and continues on a domestic hop. Swedish customs must be told at the border, and the owner uses the red lane and speaks to an officer.
The return is governed by British rules: a dog needs a vet's tapeworm treatment between 24 and 120 hours before landing in Britain, and Sweden has no exemption, so a Swedish vet administers it in the last days of the stay. Without the right paperwork a dog or cat can be quarantined for up to four months.
- An ISO microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination, with the number written on the certificate;
- A rabies vaccination from 12 weeks of age, with 21 days between the injection and travel;
- The health certificate on the Swedish form E9.207, completed and stamped by an official vet, with the identity and rabies documents stapled to it, and entry at Arlanda or Landvetter within ten days of the date of issue. A British pet passport is not accepted;
- The owner's declaration on form E9.204a that the journey is not commercial. Up to five animals per traveller; more are treated as a commercial consignment;
- For a dog, the tapeworm treatment above. Sweden does not require a treatment on entry, though it recommends one strongly before the journey.
Cats need the same list without the worming. Sweden's guide has nothing on private aircraft, so we ask the handler to confirm in writing that the animal can be received on the day and at the hour.
Requirements for birds, rabbits and the less usual species, along with the countries where the timeline runs to months, are set out on our flying with pets guide.

Empty Legs
An empty leg is a positioning flight with no passengers, sold at a fraction of the normal charter price. Sweden produces them in a regular pattern, since so many trips there are one-way.
Where Swedish empty legs come from
– Business trips to Stockholm and Gothenburg that end the same evening: the aircraft waits or leaves empty, and the leg back to Britain or to a neighbouring capital is the one most often offered;
– Winter weeks at Åre and the Icehotel, and summer weeks on Gotland and the west-coast islands, when the aircraft that took a party north returns empty after the weekend;
– The weeks of the large fixed events, such as the Nobel ceremony and the Båstad tennis, when operators position aircraft for arrivals and fly them home empty afterwards.
Clients with a few days to spare are the ones who match, and a leg can vanish if the original booking changes. Whatever is free is on our empty legs page. A selection of Swedish empty legs follows:
| Route | Aircraft | Capacity | Whole aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sweden (Stockholm) - UK (London City) | Citation CJ3+ | 7 seats | £4,650 |
| UK (London Luton) - Sweden (Stockholm) | Phenom 300E | 8 seats | £4,650 |
| Sweden (Gothenburg) - UK (Southampton) | Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £4,850 |
| UK (Bristol) - Sweden (Malmö) | Citation XLS+ | 9 seats | £4,850 |
| Sweden (Gothenburg) - UK (Edinburgh) | Challenger 350 | 9 seats | £5,250 |
| UK (Manchester) - Sweden (Stockholm) | Citation Latitude | 9 seats | £7,050 |
How to read those figures
– Each price is for the whole aircraft rather than per seat. A Challenger 350 from Gothenburg to Edinburgh with nine aboard comes to about £600 a head;
– Swedish legs cluster around the ski weekends and the big events, so an open return date helps.

Helicopter charter
Helicopter work in Sweden is centred on Bromma, where Arlanda Helicopter is based and offers flights over the inner and outer archipelago towards Vaxholm and Sandhamn, and where a booking platform lists the Agusta 109, the AS355, the H125, H130 and H155 and the Bell 429. Below are our own estimates for short hops from the main airports:
from Bromma to the sailing island in the central archipelago, in place of a ferryabout 25 min
from the airport to an island of the southern archipelago, which the ferries reach from Saltholmenabout 15 min
from the airport to the tennis townabout 10 min
from the airport to the ski resort, in place of a transfer by roadabout 30 min
from the airport to the Icehotelabout 10 min
from the airport into the mountain country to the north-westabout 35 min
The times are straight-line estimates at a cruise of about 115 knots plus a few minutes for departure and arrival, which the operator confirms for your date.
Notes on helicopter landings in Sweden
A landing at a hotel, estate or island away from an airport needs a landing site agreed in advance, and the operator arranges it before the quote. In the archipelago the weather and the summer ferry traffic shape the plan, and on ski weekends and at Midsummer the helicopters go first, so book the helicopter with the jet.

Swedish charters from the booking notes: six typical trips
Six typical jobs put together from booking notes with the particulars changed, so none describes one named client or date.
STOCKHOLM · A DAY TRIP
Two directors, a morning meeting and home by evening
London City - Stockholm and return, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 20 min each way · 2 pax
Wheels up at seven, on the ground at twenty past ten by the Swedish clock, a meeting in the city and a departure in the late afternoon. The handler requested the Arlanda slot the day before, and the return was fixed well inside the evening hours.
GOTHENBURG · SUPPLIERS
Four engineers and a day at a plant outside the city
Southampton - Gothenburg, Citation XLS+, about 1 h 50 min · 4 pax
The airport lies about 20 km from the centre and customs is on the field. The party used one of the two business aviation handlers there, and the aircraft waited on the ground for the return the same evening.
ÅRE · A SKI WEEK
Seven friends, ski bags and a chalet
London Luton - Åre Östersund, Praetor 600, about 2 h 15 min · 7 pax
A super-midsize cabin was chosen for the hold, which skis and boots fill faster than the seats. The resort is about 100 km from the airport, and the transfer took a little over an hour.
KIRUNA · THE ICEHOTEL
A couple and a week in the polar night
London Luton - Kiruna, Praetor 600, about 3 h · 2 pax
Hours at Kiruna are given by NOTAM and a slot is listed, so the handler was asked early. The Icehotel is 17 km from the town, and around the turn of the year the sun stays below the horizon for about three weeks.
WITH THE DOG · AN ENTRY POINT
A couple, a retriever and a week on the west coast
Biggin Hill - Gothenburg, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 40 min · 2 pax + dog
Landvetter is one of the two airports where a pet may enter Sweden, so the retriever came in there with a certificate issued within ten days and the owners' declaration. A Gothenburg vet gave the tapeworm treatment the day before the flight home.
EMPTY LEG · A FLEXIBLE RETURN
A weekend in Gothenburg with an open date
Gothenburg - Edinburgh, Challenger 350 empty leg, about 1 h 35 min · 3 pax
The client offered a three-day window rather than a fixed date, which is what makes these legs work, and paid about £5,250 for a Monday departure, a little under half of a fresh one-way charter.
Frequently asked questions about flying to Sweden
1How long does it take to fly to Sweden by private jet?
A light jet takes about 2 hours 20 minutes from London to Stockholm, 1 hour 45 minutes to Gothenburg, 1 hour 40 minutes to Malmö and 3 hours 15 minutes to Kiruna. Swedish clocks are an hour ahead of Britain all year.
2How much does a private jet to Sweden cost?
From about £11,100 one way from London City to Stockholm Arlanda on a light jet. On the same aircraft Gothenburg is about £2,550 less and Malmö about £2,950 less, while Kiruna is about £4,500 more. Stockholm to Gothenburg is from £3,250 in a turboprop, and winter de-icing is quoted as a line of its own.
3Which airports do private jets use in Sweden?
Stockholm Arlanda is the usual gateway, open round the clock and with two business aviation handlers. Bromma is the city-centre alternative, with noise limits and set hours. Gothenburg Landvetter and Malmö Sturup serve the west and south, Åre Östersund serves the ski country, and Kiruna and Luleå serve the north. The handler is agreed first, and where a slot is needed it is requested with the handler.
4What are the passport, customs and permit rules for a private flight from Britain to Sweden?
Sweden is in the EU and Schengen, so passport control and customs take place at the first Swedish airport. British citizens may stay 90 days in any 180 without a visa, on a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid three months beyond departure. A charter by a non-EU operator needs a traffic permit from the Swedish Transport Agency, applied for by the operator at least 48 hours before a single charter.
5Can I take my dog or cat on a private jet to Sweden?
Yes. The animal needs an ISO microchip, a rabies vaccination given after the chip and at least 21 days before travel, a health certificate completed by an official vet and used within ten days of issue, and the owner's declaration that the journey is not commercial. It must enter through Stockholm Arlanda or Gothenburg Landvetter. A dog needs tapeworm treatment 24 to 120 hours before landing back in Britain.
6Can I land at Bromma in a private jet?
Often, but not with every aircraft. Bromma limits noise to an average of 89 EPNdB, caps the year at 80,000 movements and, according to one trip-support source, limits approach speed. Hours are set, with a shorter day at weekends, and customs needs notice through the handler. We check the exact aircraft before the quote; Arlanda is the fallback.
