Private jet charter in Dubrovnik

From a London airfield to the walls of Dubrovnik is under three hours in a light jet, and the part of the trip that needs planning is what happens after landing, not the flight itself. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that: the slot, the handler, the cabin size and the road, boat or helicopter that finishes the journey. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Dubrovnik has one airport that matters, a single-runway field at Čilipi with a general aviation terminal of its own, so the real decisions are the date, the length of the stay and whether the trip ends in the Old Town, on the islands or on the Pelješac peninsula.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Dubrovnik depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, an Embraer Phenom 300E and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Dubrovnik?

Two hours thirty-five minutes from Biggin Hill in a Phenom 300E, three hours and fifteen minutes from Glasgow in a Challenger, and one hour of clock difference to add on arrival, because Croatia keeps Central European time. At 947 to 1,234 nautical miles this is the long end of short-haul: a light jet does it without a stop, but it is a longer sit than the same aircraft would spend on a flight to Paris or Nice, and the cabin matters more than it seems on paper. The table gives the sector from each British field we use.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you are on the ground at Čilipi a little before eleven local time. The airport stands in the Konavle district south-east of the city and the road to the Old Town is about 20 km, which takes 25 to 40 minutes and more on a cruise-ship day in July or August. A client who walked out of a London office at six can therefore be at lunch on the Stradun or at a villa pool by early afternoon. Add the drive to the British airfield and the quick processing at both terminals and the whole journey from central London comes to roughly five hours, against a day of connections by scheduled airline.

Light jet or midsize: the question that actually comes up on this route

– Up to four people with ordinary bags, a light jet is the right answer. Be honest about the length of the sit, though: close to three hours in a small cabin is longer than most clients expect, and the Phenom 300E has the roomier interior for that time;

– Past four, or with golf clubs, dive bags, a stroller or a dog, we quote a midsize jet beside it. A summer villa week carries more luggage than a business trip, and the hold is what usually decides. From the Midlands and the north the Citation XLS+ and the Latitude are the usual answer, and from Scotland a Challenger 350;

– Heavy aircraft make sense when the party is large, when the same aircraft stays with you for a Mediterranean tour, or when Dubrovnik is the first leg of something longer.

Private jet flights from Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is a corner of Croatia, and almost everything of interest to a charter client lies either on the coast to the north or across a border to the south and east. Tivat and Mostar are a few minutes of flying but hours by road, Split is a short turboprop hop up the coast, and the capitals of Central Europe and Greece are an hour and a half away at most. Typical one-way prices:

The coast and the border: when a turboprop beats the road

The road from Dubrovnik to Split is about 230 km and takes three to four hours; a Pilatus PC-12 does it in under an hour. Mostar is only 140 km away, but the route through Neum crosses two borders and can take anything from two and three-quarter hours to four, which is why the sector is flown by clients who want a day in Herzegovina and not a night on the road. Kotor in Montenegro is about 90 km by road, with a border queue at Debeli Brijeg that can add half an hour to an hour and a half in peak season, while Tivat, the airport for the Bay of Kotor, is a hop of a few minutes in the air. The Pelješac peninsula and Korčula have no airport for a jet. For those the aircraft lands at Čilipi and the road, a ferry or a helicopter does the rest.

Before you accept an onward quote

– The border at both ends. Croatia, Austria and Greece are in Schengen, so a hop to Zagreb, Vienna or Athens carries no passport check at the far end. Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are outside both the EU and Schengen, so each leg to Tivat or Mostar brings landing paperwork and passport control, and the return into Croatia is a Schengen entry again. The handler organises each end, but the quote should say so;

– Which airport, and the fallback. A quote that quietly changes Dubrovnik to Split to save money is a different trip, with three or four hours of road in it. And ask what the plan is if strong north-easterly wind affects the approach, because that is when a second airport earns its keep;

– Whether the itinerary is one booking. Dubrovnik to Split to Tivat over a week costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of repositioning to Dubrovnik between each stop.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Dubrovnik:

Light jets, and where most bookings land

Close to three hours from Britain is the top of what we would call comfortable in this class, so the choice inside it is about cabin height and baggage and not about speed.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for the long sit and the luggage

A summer villa week brings suitcases, snorkelling kit and children. The Citation XLS+ and the Latitude are the aircraft most often quoted from the Midlands and the north, and the extra headroom is what a three-hour leg is paid for.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h

Super-midsize and large

For a party travelling as one group, for a team that works in the air, and for itineraries that carry on from Dubrovnik along the Adriatic and the Mediterranean rather than turning round.

Bombardier Challenger 350 · 9 seatsfrom £4,000/h
Bombardier Challenger 605 · 12 seatsfrom £4,350/h
Dassault Falcon 2000LXS · 10 seatsfrom £4,900/h
Gulfstream G450 · 13 seatsfrom £5,800/h

Turboprops

The right aircraft for Split, Tivat and Mostar: a short hop, and the saving over a jet on that distance is large.

Pilatus PC-12 NGX · 9 seatsfrom £1,400/h
Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

Helicopters

Not for the flight from Britain but for the last stretch: a villa on the coast, an island, a restaurant on the Pelješac. A landing outside an aerodrome needs the landowner's agreement, so the site is settled before the quote is issued.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. A Dubrovnik booking often has an aircraft closer than London: Split, Zagreb, Tivat, Athens and the Italian airports across the Adriatic all have charter fleets, and in summer the coast fills with aircraft that have brought a party in and are free to go home. We look at the whole map before a price is sent, and that is often where the better figure comes from.

Business aviation airports in Dubrovnik

One airport carries the traffic. The others matter when the itinerary crosses a border or reaches up the coast, and it helps to know what each one is before a quote arrives with its name in it.

Airport What it gives you
Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković, Čilipi
DBV / LDDU
The answer for almost every trip, and for practical purposes the only one. The field stands in the Konavle district at 161 m (527 ft) above sea level; the airport's official data give 13 km from the city and the road to the Old Town is about 20 km. There is one asphalt runway, 11/29, 3,230 m long and 45 m wide, with a Category I ILS on runway 11 and RNP and visual procedures for runway 29, so no aircraft we charter is short of length. Business and general aviation passengers use their own terminal in the eastern part of the airport. Customs and immigration, fuel, air traffic services and security are listed as available round the clock, though the airport operator's own desk keeps shorter hours, as described below
Tivat
TIV / LYTV
In Montenegro, on the Bay of Kotor, 3 km south of Tivat town and about 7 km from Kotor, with a 2,500 m runway. Montenegro is outside the EU and outside Schengen, so it has its own landing paperwork and border control, and the road back to Dubrovnik crosses a land border. Choose it when the trip is really to the Bay of Kotor or the marina resorts around it, and not as a way round Dubrovnik
Mostar
OMO / LQMO
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the village of Ortiješ about 7 km south-east of Mostar, with a 2,400 m runway. It is best known for pilgrim charters to Medjugorje and has a small scheduled network. Mostar is 140 km from Dubrovnik by a road that crosses the border twice, so the airport suits a visit to Herzegovina and is no substitute for Čilipi
Split
SPU / LDSP
The other Croatian option, 19 km west of Split, with a 2,550 m runway. It is some 230 km up the coast from Dubrovnik, three to four hours by road, so it is a destination in its own right and a fallback when the weather at Čilipi is difficult, not a convenient alternative for a villa in Konavle
Korčula, Pelješac, Mljet and the Elafiti
no jet airport
None of them has an airport for a business jet. Dubrovnik is the landing for all of them, followed by a road, a ferry, a private boat or a helicopter

Four points settle most Dubrovnik arrivals:

Choose the handler

Private flights are received at the general aviation terminal, and the airport lists a handling request among the services it offers there. Euro Jet Intercontinental is one of the agents named at the terminal, with a crew lounge, fuel coordination and permits; other approved handling companies can be used too. We book the agent together with the permit and give the driver the terminal as well as the flight.

Hours, slots and wind

The airport operator publishes 0400 to 2100 UTC in summer and 0500 to 2100 UTC in winter, which is 06:00 to 23:00 and 06:00 to 22:00 local time. Outside that window the operator's approval is needed, asked for in advance. In the summer schedule Dubrovnik is a Level 2 airport and the category covers general and business aviation, so we request the slot with the permit. In strong north-easterly wind the airport warns of gusts, wind shear and turbulence on final.

Border and passport

Croatia is in the EU and in Schengen, and Britain is not, so you clear passport control at the terminal. British passport holders need no visa for 90 days in any 180, with a passport issued less than ten years before arrival and valid for three months after the planned departure. On a first entry the border officer may take a photograph and fingerprints, free of charge, so allow a little extra time.

Car and the Old Town

The walled city is a pedestrian zone, so a car stops at the gate or the hotel and the last stretch is on foot. Allow 25 to 40 minutes from Čilipi to the Old Town, more at the height of summer and on days when cruise ships are in port. For the Elafiti the boat leaves from Gruž, and the marina at Komolac is about 6 km from the Old Town.

business aviation

Permits and arrival formalities in Croatia

Whether a landing permit is needed depends on what kind of flight it is. The Croatian aeronautical publication says that a private, non-commercial flight by an aircraft registered in a state party to the Chicago Convention needs no entry authorisation, provided the flight plan declares it as private and the aviation agency is notified in writing beforehand. A commercial charter is different. The operator needs the agency's authorisation for non-scheduled flights, applied for at least three working days ahead for one to four flights and fifteen working days ahead for a series, and has to show an EASA third-country operator authorisation or a valid one-off notification, together with the charter agreement and the insurance certificate. Both kinds of paperwork are part of what we prepare, and we confirm the position for your aircraft in writing before the quote is accepted.

An aircraft arriving from outside Schengen, as every flight from Britain does, must first land at an international airport that has customs and passport services. Dubrovnik is on that list. Passport control and customs are available there, and for a private flight the handler arranges them at the general aviation terminal, so the process takes minutes when the crew has filed the passenger list in good time. On the way home the General Aviation Report for the UK has to be filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than two hours before departure, and a non-British guest who needs no visa for Britain will usually need an Electronic Travel Authorisation; British and Irish citizens are exempt.

From the apron to the Old Town

Dubrovnik is a small city on a steep coast. Nothing in it is far, but almost everything outside it is: the islands, the wine country, the next border. These are the distances and times that shape a trip, with the journeys by road taken from the Old Town and the ferry times from the harbour at Gruž.

Čilipi to the Old Town
about 20 km by road, and more at the height of summer
25 to 40 minutes
Old Town to Cavtat
about 18 km down the coast, the second base for villa stays
25 to 35 minutes
Gruž harbour to Koločep, Lopud and Šipan
public ferry times of about 30, 55 and 90 minutes; a private boat is quicker
30 to 90 minutes
Old Town to Ston and Mali Ston
about 55 km, for the walls and the oyster beds
60 to 80 minutes
Old Town to Orebić, for Korčula
about 115 km, then a ferry of about 15 minutes across the strait
130 to 165 minutes
Old Town to Kotor, Montenegro
about 90 km with a border crossing that can add half an hour or more
2 to 3.5 hours
Old Town to Mostar
about 140 km, with two border crossings on the road through Neum
2 h 45 min to 4 hours
Old Town to Split
about 230 km, with the Pelješac bridge avoiding the Neum corridor
3 to 4 hours

Flying to Dubrovnik with a dog or a cat

Croatia is in the EU, so a British dog or cat follows the standard rules for the Union. The animal sits beside you in the cabin. What matters is the calendar: the rabies vaccination, the certificate dated inside its short life, and, for a dog, a vet appointment in Croatia before the flight home.

private flight with animals

What the EU, and Croatia in particular, asks for:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination and never after it;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before entry;
  • An Animal Health Certificate from an Official Veterinarian for each trip, valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A pet passport issued in England, Scotland or Wales cannot be used to enter;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, entering through a travellers' point of entry, and Dubrovnik airport is on Croatia's list;
  • Croatia restricts certain dangerous breeds: pit bull terriers and their crosses that are not entered in the FCI register are refused entry, so a dog of that type needs its status checked before anything is booked;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before the return flight to Britain, recorded with product, date and time. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Dubrovnik run

– Croatia asks for no tapeworm treatment on the way in, only before the way home, so the vet appointment is booked in Dubrovnik or Cavtat, towards the end of the stay, and not before leaving. We fix the time of the treatment and the time of departure in one message;

– The certificate is for one trip. An animal whose rabies vaccination lapses while it is away loses the right to come back on its paperwork, so check the date on the vaccination record against the date of return and not just the date of departure;

– A hotel has to accept the animal, and so does a boat skipper or a helicopter operator, separately. Settle the Elafiti boat, the yacht transfer and the villa before the quote, because each one has its own view of a dog on board.

Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and a pet coming back to Britain must travel with its pet travel document and a declaration. Our managers confirm the entry point and the paperwork for the animal in writing before the flight.

The Dubrovnik calendar: a summer city with a few winter dates

Dubrovnik runs on the warm months. The Summer Festival, the sailing season, the cruise ships and the villa weeks all fall in the same stretch, and the rest of the year is quieter and more local. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

2 and 3 February
The Feast of St Blaise, the city's patron and a festivity on the UNESCO list of intangible heritage: bells and white doves on the eve, then a procession of parish banner bearers in folk costume on the day itself. A winter date on which the Old Town fills for the day
March
The oyster festival in Ston, on the Bay of Mali Ston, where oysters and mussels have been farmed since Roman times. A food and wine weekend for a small party, and a quiet month for flying
Late spring to autumn
The sailing and yacht season. The marina at Komolac, on the Dubrovnik river about 6 km from the Old Town, has around 380 wet berths and takes vessels up to 60 m, and crews and owners fly in and out on the changeover days. The season typically runs from late spring to autumn
10 July to 25 August
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival. It opens on 10 July in front of St Blaise's Church and runs to 25 August, with theatre and concerts in the Rector's Palace atrium, at Lovrijenac Fort and on Lokrum. Evening dress, late nights and a morning-after departure
Summer months
Korčula's Moreška sword dance, performed in the old town of Korčula in regular summer performances, and the island ferries running a fuller timetable. The airport is typically at its busiest in July and August
Cruise days
Ships call at Gruž through the warm months, and the city has capped how many may arrive on one day. It has flattened the worst peaks and removed none of them. Guests who want the walls or the Stradun to themselves go early or after the ships have left
All year
Game of Thrones tourism. The Old Town stood in for King's Landing, Fort Lovrijenac for the Red Keep, Lokrum for the Qarth scenes and the Trsteno arboretum for the royal gardens. Fans book a guide for a morning and make a short day of it
November to March
The quiet months. The island ferries run thinner timetables, the airport operator keeps its winter hours, and strong north-easterly wind is the weather to plan around. Prices are usually at their lowest

Why a July week costs more

Not the flying. The European light and midsize fleet is large, and the Adriatic is well supplied with it in summer. What gets tight is the general aviation terminal and its apron, the handler's cars, boats at the Elafiti and villas. A booking made a fortnight before a festival weekend can still be done, but it pays more, and it may mean an aircraft positioned from Split, Zagreb or Italy. The same booking made five or six weeks ahead is simpler and cheaper. Outside the summer weeks Dubrovnik is one of the easier Adriatic airports to fly into, and a charter can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Dubrovnik price down

  • Move the dates a few days where you can. Early July and early September are usually calmer than the festival weeks;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet already in Split, Zagreb or Tivat needs less positioning than one from Britain, and on a sector of nearly three hours positioning is a large part of the bill;
  • Book the return at the same time. Two legs arranged together as one trip cost less than two separate one-way charters, and the slot at Čilipi is requested once;
  • Take the light jet unless the luggage says otherwise, and consider a Phenom over a smaller cabin for the legroom, since both carry four people comfortably.

Types of flights

Dubrovnik produces a different mix from the business capitals we cover, because it is a resort city, a heritage site and the gateway to the southern Adriatic at the same time.

  • Villa and family weeks in Konavle, Cavtat and on the Elafiti, where the luggage count decides the cabin and the aircraft waits or goes home;
  • Yacht changeovers, with owners, guests and crew flying into Čilipi to join a boat at Komolac or on the coast;
  • Festival weekends in July and August, flown in for a performance and out again the following morning;
  • Short couples' and friends' breaks tied to the Old Town, the walls and the Game of Thrones locations;
  • Wine and food trips to the Pelješac peninsula and Korčula, often combined with a night in Ston;
  • Adriatic loops that take in Split, Tivat or Mostar, and onward legs to Athens or the Italian coast.

The weekend trip is worth a closer look. A same-day return from Britain is a long haul for a three-hour sector, so most clients stay at least one night, and the aircraft either waits or goes home and comes back. We quote both, because on a weekend in July the waiting cost can be larger than the positioning cost, and the answer depends on the dates.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On the Dubrovnik route they come from the pattern of the summer, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Dubrovnik empty legs come from

– Changeover days. Aircraft bring a party in for the weekend and leave empty on the Sunday or Monday, so the outbound leg towards Britain or Italy is the one most often offered;

– Festival and sailing weeks. When aircraft shuttle between Dubrovnik, Tivat and Split through July and August, the short return legs are the ones that appear;

– The shoulder months. At the start and the end of the season operators move aircraft towards and away from the coast, and a leg that would otherwise fly empty can be cheap.

Because a leg to the southern Adriatic is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Dubrovnik match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Dubrovnik a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and not the middle. The Old Town is small, closed to cars and best crossed on foot, and the places where rotary flight changes the journey are the islands, the Pelješac peninsula and the coast towards Split.

Dubrovnik to Hvar
the standard island hop from Dubrovnik, flown along the chain of islands
about 1 hour
Dubrovnik to Korčula
against roughly two and a half to three hours by road and ferry from the Old Town
on request
Čilipi to the Elafiti
against a ferry from Gruž of 30 to 90 minutes, and worth it for an island villa with a private landing site
on request
Čilipi to a hotel or villa in Dubrovnik
against 25 to 40 minutes by road, and useful only where the landing site has been approved
on request
Dubrovnik to Tivat and the marina resorts of the Bay of Kotor
against two hours or more by road with a border crossing
on request

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing outside an aerodrome depends on the agreement of the landowner and on an operator whose authority covers it, so a hotel lawn, a private villa or an island plot has its status confirmed before we quote and not after;

– Wind sets the schedule. The same north-easterly wind that makes the approach to Čilipi rough can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands, and fast boats and catamarans are cancelled in strong wind too, so a transfer needs a road or ferry alternative planned into the same day;

– Twin-engine machines are the sensible choice for longer routes over open water. For the Summer Festival weekends book the helicopter together with the jet or expect to be told there is no rotary capacity.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for island and villa work, the wider H130 for scenic transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and larger types for bigger parties. We book them alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Dubrovnik charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

VILLA WEEK · THE LUGGAGE BOOKED THE CABIN

Six people, a week in Konavle and a hold full of beach kit

Farnborough - Dubrovnik, Citation XLS+ quoted beside the Phenom, about 2 h 40 min · 6 pax

The party looked like a light-jet job on seat count. Snorkelling kit, a pushchair, golf clubs and two weeks of clothes took the hold past what a light cabin carries comfortably, and the quote moved up a class for that reason and not for the seats. The return was booked with the outbound so that the slot at Čilipi was requested once.

SUMMER FESTIVAL · A LATE NIGHT AND A MORNING DEPARTURE

Four guests for a performance at Lovrijenac

London Luton - Dubrovnik, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 40 min · 4 pax

A weekend built around an evening performance in the old fortress. The driver was told the terminal as well as the flight, the car waited at the gate of the Old Town, and the departure was set for late the next morning, inside the airport operator's hours and with the slot already confirmed.

YACHT CHANGEOVER · FIXED DAY

Owner and guests joining a boat at Komolac

Biggin Hill - Dubrovnik, Phenom 300E, about 2 h 35 min · 5 pax

The boat was ready on Saturday and the crew could not wait. Booked well ahead, the aircraft landed at the general aviation terminal, a car took the party the short drive to the marina and the luggage went straight to the vessel. The only item to settle early was the passenger list for the handler, and that took one message.

PELJEŠAC AND KORČULA · FOUR DAYS ON THE PENINSULA

A wine and food trip with a helicopter for the return

Southampton - Dubrovnik, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 50 min · 4 pax

Ston for the oysters, a vineyard lunch on the peninsula and a night in Korčula. The drive and the ferry from Orebić went to plan, and the helicopter for the return leg was agreed with the landowner a week before. The aircraft waited at Čilipi, which is a line in the quote and still came out cheaper than two one-way charters.

A DOG ON BOARD · THE VET IN CAVTAT

Two adults, two children and a labrador

Bristol - Dubrovnik, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 55 min · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked the vet in Cavtat together with the aircraft, the villa accepted the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING WEST

A jet already going your way

Dubrovnik - Farnborough, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h 40 min · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Dubrovnik

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Dubrovnik?

About 2 hours 35 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a Phenom 300E, and around 2 hours 40 minutes from Luton or Farnborough, covering roughly 947 to 977 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Bristol or Cardiff allow about 2 hours 55 minutes to 3 hours, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 3 hours 10 to 3 hours 15 in a Challenger. Croatia is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands shortly before eleven local time.

2How much does a private jet to Dubrovnik cost?

From about £12,750 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, £12,800 from London City and £13,100 from Luton. A midsize cabin runs £16,350 to £17,250 from the south and the Midlands, and from Scotland allow £24,250 to £24,750. July and August, and the weeks of the Summer Festival, price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use for Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković at Čilipi (DBV / LDDU) for almost every trip. It has one 3,230 m runway, its own general aviation terminal, and customs and immigration listed as available round the clock, about 20 km by road from the Old Town. Tivat in Montenegro and Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina are across a border, and Split is three to four hours up the coast, so they suit specific trips and are not substitutes.

4Do I need a permit, and what about passports?

A private, non-commercial flight by an aircraft registered in a Chicago Convention state needs no entry authorisation, but the flight plan must declare it as private and the aviation agency must be told in writing; a commercial charter needs the agency's authorisation, which we arrange. Croatia is in Schengen, so British passport holders need no visa for 90 days in any 180, with a passport under ten years old and valid for three months after departure. Fingerprints and a photograph may be taken on a first entry.

5When should I book a private jet to Dubrovnik?

Outside the summer a day or two is usually enough. For July and August, and for the Summer Festival that runs from 10 July to 25 August, allow four to six weeks, because the general aviation terminal, the handler's cars and the boats all get tight in the same days. The airport operator keeps shorter hours than the round-the-clock services, so a late departure needs approval in advance.

6Can I take my dog to Dubrovnik on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and Croatia follows the EU rules: a microchip, a rabies vaccination at least 21 days old and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry, with no more than five animals per traveller. Some dangerous breeds are restricted. For the return to Britain a dog needs a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before landing, and cats are exempt.
