Private jet charter in Bangkok

Bangkok lies on the far side of a twelve-hour flight from any London hangar, and the airport you land at there matters more than the cabin you sit in. Private Jets UK plans the whole chain, from the first quote to the car waiting by the aircraft door. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. The city has two big airports, and only one of them is built for the private jet. Don Mueang takes the business traffic, Suvarnabhumi is kept for airliners, and the questions that need an early answer are the permit, the slot and the visa.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Bangkok depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Bombardier Global 6000 with one stop on the way and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Bangkok?

About 12 h 50 min from Biggin Hill in a Global 6000 with one stop on the way, and a little over thirteen hours from Glasgow. An ultra-long-range jet that can fly the distance in one leg needs about 11 h 05 min. The straight line from London is roughly 5,346 nautical miles, which is 89 per cent of what a Global 6000 can fly (about 6,000 nm), leaving a margin of only 650 nm for winds, reserves and a full cabin. Most operators therefore split the sector. Dubai is a convenient break: about 3,067 nm from Biggin Hill and then 2,740 nm on to Bangkok, which adds 461 nm to the direct line. The stop is not fixed. Another Gulf airport or an airport in India can serve equally well, and the countries overflown are chosen by the operator's flight planners, with a permit for each. The times in the table include about an hour on the ground at the stop.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Thailand keeps one time all year, six hours ahead of Britain in summer and seven in winter. Leave Biggin Hill at nine in the evening and a Global 6000 touches down in Bangkok in the late afternoon of the next day, local time, with the evening free. Leave at nine in the morning and you arrive in the small hours, when the airport works but the car and the hotel desk are harder to arrange. Don Mueang is on the northern side of the city and Suvarnabhumi on the eastern side, each about 25 km from the centre, and handlers quote about half an hour by road for either when the traffic is light. It is rarely light. Count the drive to the British airfield, the stop and the formalities, and the journey from a London office to a Bangkok hotel comes to roughly sixteen hours.

Stop or nonstop, and who flies it

– The range. A Global 6000 is rated at about 6,000 nm, a Gulfstream G550 at 6,750, a G650ER at 7,500 and a Global 7500 at 7,700. The 5,346 nm from Biggin Hill leaves a Global 6000 about 650 nm in hand, so it takes the stop; the two ultra-long-range jets have more than 2,000 nm to spare and can plan a single leg;

– The price of the choice. A G650ER flying nonstop from Biggin Hill is £170,050 one way, a Global 7500 £183,300, and a Global 6000 with a stop £156,150. The stop saves money and costs close to two hours, and the larger jets buy the whole day back;

– The crew. Eleven to thirteen hours in the air is a long duty period for one crew. Ask whether the quote includes a second crew or a rest at the stop, and ask where the aircraft will wait in Bangkok, because parking at the capital's airports is limited and an aircraft that cannot stay may fly out empty and return for you.

The figures are one-way and cover the aircraft, crew, fuel, the stop and the positioning flight home, which on a route this long is a large part of the bill. Landing, parking and handling charges, the permits, catering and the fees at the stop are quoted on top once the dates are fixed. A Global 6000 with a stop starts at £156,150 from Biggin Hill, £156,700 from Luton, £159,000 from Manchester and £161,750 from Glasgow. There is no light-jet or midsize price on this page. A Citation XLS+ with a range of roughly 2,100 nm would need two or three stops, each with its own permit, and a quote that offers one should say where it lands.

We can arrange the flights from any cities in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and European countries. Hopping around Thailand: who may fly it

A handling company's briefing says that the passengers who arrive on a private flight must leave on the same aircraft, and that a different number of passengers on departure needs the approval of the Thai aviation authority, which grants it at its discretion. Domestic sectors for a foreign-registered jet are therefore a matter for the permit office, and in practice they are usually flown by a Thai-registered operator. The Thai sectors in the table are priced for comparison: Pattaya is only 81 nautical miles from Bangkok, Hua Hin 89 nm and Phuket 388 nm. The sectors to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bali and the Maldives are international, follow the normal permit routine and can be flown by the aircraft that brought you.

Before you accept an onward quote

– Who operates it. If a quote for a leg inside Thailand comes from the same company as the long-haul flight, ask which Thai operator flies it and whether its permit is in place;

– Whether it is one trip. Bangkok, then Singapore, then home is cheaper arranged as a single itinerary than as separate bookings. Say so at the start, because every landing needs a permit and the lead time is counted in working days.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Turbopropsfrom £850/h
Small jet£1,700 - 2,500/h
Light jet£2,100 - 3,000/h
Medium-sized jet (Citation XLS+, Hawker 800XP)£3,000 - 3,700/h
Large medium-class jet (Challenger 300)£4,600 - 5,500/h

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose a suitable model taking into account your wishes. These are the typical choices for Bangkok:

Long-range jets, the working class for this route

London to Bangkok in two legs sits inside their range. Choose by cabin: the Global 6000 for up to a dozen guests, the Gulfstream G550 when the party is larger or the extra margin matters more than the rate.

online private jet directory

This is a small part of what is available. A long-range jet is rarely waiting in Bangkok, so a charter normally starts with an aircraft positioned from Europe, the Gulf or elsewhere in Asia, and the price is built from the London leg and not from a local base. A jet returning empty from a drop-off in Singapore, Hong Kong or the Maldives is the opening for a better price, and we look for it on every enquiry.

Business aviation airports in Bangkok

Two airports share the capital, and for a private jet the choice between them is made by the rules, not by the map. Two more, on the coast, are used when the destination is Pattaya or Hua Hin. A quote that names anything other than Don Mueang should say why.

Airport What it gives you
Bangkok, Don Mueang
DMK / VTBD
The business jet airport of Bangkok, on the northern side of the city, with two runways of 3,700 m and 3,500 m (the shorter one is normally military but can be made available to civil traffic). The aerodrome, customs, immigration, fuelling and handling are all listed as open round the clock. Handling for private aircraft is in the hands of Mjets, which has a private jet terminal with hangar and repair facilities, and AOT Ground Aviation Services runs a general aviation terminal with a premium lounge. Jet A-1 is supplied by BAFS. Handlers describe the airport as free of curfew and of limits on aircraft size or noise, and say a jet can usually stay as long as needed, though Universal's guide sets a maximum of 24 hours on the apron before an aircraft goes into a hangar or to another airport. Siam Land Flying, the aviation company of the CP Group, uses Don Mueang as a hub. Aircraft are moved on and off stands with a towbar
Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi
BKK / VTBS
The country's main airliner hub, about 25 km east of the city, with runways of 4,000 m, 3,700 m and 4,000 m, all services listed as open round the clock, and ad hoc charter and corporate jet handling by BFS Ground. It has no dedicated private apron in the official data. A handling company's briefing says business aircraft need prior permission with seven days' notice, may stay on the ground for three hours at most and cannot park overnight there, and that crew and passengers clear immigration in the main terminal with the airline passengers. Don Mueang remains the usual field for business jets, and if Suvarnabhumi is considered at all, the aircraft moves to Don Mueang when it has to stay
Pattaya, U-Tapao
UTP / VTBU
The airport for the Gulf coast, a naval air station shared with civil traffic, about 81 nm from Bangkok in the air and about 45 minutes by taxi from Pattaya. The runway is 3,505 m, the aerodrome, customs and immigration are listed as open round the clock, and there is no noise abatement procedure. Mjets lists FBO and handler services at the airport, also round the clock. Suited to anything we send from Britain, and a good choice for Pattaya, Rayong and the eastern industrial belt
Hua Hin
HHQ / VTPH
A small airport 7 km north-east of the resort town, about 89 nm from Bangkok. The runway is 2,100 m by 35 m and the aerodrome opens from 06:00 to 18:00 Thai time. Customs and immigration are on request, no handling agent or hangar is listed, and a commercial flight with a Code C aircraft needs authorisation from the airport director. A turboprop or light jet airport, and we confirm everything in writing before a quote
Phuket International
HKT / VTSP
The island alternative when the plan is the beach and not the city, about 388 nm south. A 3,000 m runway, customs and immigration listed as open round the clock, and the Siam Land Private Jet Terminal on the private side. Our Phuket page has the details of the permits, the slots and the season
The stop on the way, usually Dubai
DXB / OMDB, DWC / OMDW
Where we plan the fuel stop on the way out and the way back, about 2,740 nm from Bangkok. Two airports are available at Dubai, and which one we use depends on the handler, the slot and the aircraft. An airport in India or elsewhere in the Gulf can take its place. The stop adds about an hour on the ground, which the flying times in the tables above already include

Four points settle most Bangkok arrivals:

Choose the handler

At Don Mueang two names matter. Mjets runs the private jet terminal with its own hangars, lounge and on-site customs, immigration and security. AOT Ground Aviation Services runs the general aviation terminal, and Universal Aviation uses that terminal for its clients. Prices and service differ, so we ask which one the quote assumes and give the driver the right gate.

Hours, slots and parking

Both big airports need airport slots confirmed before the landing permit is requested, with a tolerance of ten minutes either way. Don Mueang has no curfew and no real peak, and a jet can stay there within the handler's parking limit. Suvarnabhumi is congested, is busiest from 12:00 to 22:00 Thai time, and a business jet that arrives there should plan to leave within three hours.

Entry and permits

The Thai aviation authority approves every non-scheduled flight through a permit system. The official data asks for at least three working days, and handlers advise seven working days and about two weeks of planning for the whole job. Passengers register on the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within three days before landing, and a British passport gives visa-free entry for tourism only.

Cars and the road

Both airports are about half an hour from the centre on a quiet road, and the capital's traffic is seldom quiet. Handlers advise a prepaid car with a driver vetted by them, and not a street taxi, and a car may drive planeside only if its company holds the airport licence. Pattaya is about two hours by road from Suvarnabhumi and about an hour more from Don Mueang.

business aviation

Border, passport and permits

Thailand works to a permit calendar. Every non-scheduled flight needs prior approval from the aviation authority, applied for by the operator with the full schedule, the crew and passenger details, a specific purpose of flight and a local business contact, and a vague purpose is not accepted. The official data gives three working days, a handling company says seven business days and recommends two weeks of planning, and a permit is valid for about 24 hours either side of the time stated, so a change of schedule outside that window means a revised permit and new slots. British citizens may enter visa-free for tourism, with the length of stay set by the Thai rules for the date of travel. The gov.uk advice says the exemption does not cover business travel, conferences or meetings, so a trip with a meeting in it needs the right visa. The passport needs six months of validity and a blank page. Officers may ask for evidence of onward travel, accommodation or funds. Everyone completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online, within three days before arrival, and anyone arriving from a yellow fever risk country carries the vaccination certificate. Immigration is cleared in the private jet terminal or the general aviation terminal at Don Mueang, and in the main terminal at Suvarnabhumi, and it cannot be done at the aircraft. Customs allowances are tight: 200 cigarettes per person, one litre of wine or spirits, and any foreign currency above 20,000 US dollars declared. On the British side the flight is filed on a General Aviation Report, between 48 and 2 hours before departure. Britain, Thailand and the stop on the way are all outside the Schengen area.

Flying to Bangkok with a dog or a cat

A dog or a cat can usually be brought to Thailand on an import permit, and the paperwork has to be ready before the booking, because the Thai permit comes first and the return to Britain is the harder half. The animal normally travels with you in the cabin.

private flight with animals

What the two halves look like:

  • Into Thailand: an import permit from the Department of Livestock Development, applied for by email no later than seven days before departure according to the Thai guidance and valid for 60 days. It comes with a microchip certificate, rabies vaccination at least 21 days before departure (dogs also distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus and leptospirosis; cats also feline panleukopenia) and an official health certificate endorsed by the government of the departure country. The animal must be at least four months old. Thai consular guidance adds a negative leptospirosis test within 30 days for dogs and lists pit bull terriers and American Staffordshire terriers as prohibited breeds, so we confirm the full list in writing before the flight;
  • On arrival the animal goes to the Animal Quarantine Station for a veterinary inspection, a permit is issued if it meets the rules, and the pet is presented to customs with a small duty or fee. A healthy animal is normally not quarantined, though the officer may detain any animal. The official pages we found name the station at Suvarnabhumi, so for Don Mueang we ask the handler in advance where and when the inspection takes place;
  • Leaving Thailand: an export permit and a health check at the quarantine station, no more than three days before departure;
  • Into Great Britain: Thailand does not appear in the gov.uk table of listed countries, so the stricter rules for countries that are not listed apply. The animal needs a Great Britain pet health certificate issued within 10 days of arrival and a rabies blood test, taken at least 30 days after the vaccination, at an EU-approved laboratory with a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml, and it must wait 3 months from the date of the sample before it travels;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival in Britain. Cats do not need it, and each animal travels with the pet travel document and a declaration;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, and quarantine of up to four months if the rules are not met. The stop on the way is a third country, so its rules for an animal in transit are checked as well.

What catches owners out on the Bangkok run

– The blood test sets the calendar. It cannot be taken until a month after the vaccination, and the three months run from the sample, so the planning starts about four months before the return flight. A date that cannot move is better booked after the paperwork than before it;

– The Thai deadline is short and the certificate is short-lived. Seven days for the permit and ten days of validity for the health certificate leave little room for a weekend or a holiday in between;

– A fortnight in Bangkok with a dog is possible, and a long weekend booked on Thursday usually is not. Many owners leave the animal at home, and that is an honest answer we give when the rules and the dates do not meet.

Requirements for ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide, and our managers confirm the position in writing for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Bangkok calendar: a cool season, a hot one and a rainy one

Bangkok has three seasons, not four. The cool season runs from November to February, the hot season from March to May and the rains from June to October. Festivals follow the lunar calendar, and the art and fashion weeks open the cool season. Demand is tightest in the cool months, and the choice of week matters more than the choice of aircraft.

October
Bangkok International Fashion Week, held in October across three shopping centres in the Siam district, with runway shows by Thai designers. The Bangkok Art Biennale, in the years it is held, runs from October to February. The rains are ending, and the busy part of the year is about to begin
November
Loy Krathong, the festival of lights, falls on the November full moon and is marked by floating offerings on the water. The cool season begins, and the demand for hotels and cars starts to rise
Dec to Feb
The peak. December is the coolest month, at an average of about 26 degrees Celsius. Chinese New Year falls in January or February, and Bangkok Design Week is normally held in February. Christmas and New Year are the hardest weeks to book
March
The Thailand round of MotoGP at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, about 400 km north-east of Bangkok, normally falls in early March. A scheduled flight to Buriram takes about an hour, and a party that wants to avoid the Sunday evening road leaves by air
Mar to May
The hot season, with April the warmest month at about 35 degrees Celsius. Songkran, the Thai New Year water festival, runs from 13 to 15 April, and the streets turn into water fights, so the transfer from the airport takes longer than the usual half hour
June to Sept
The rainy season, which runs from June into October (the end of it is covered above). Prices fall, aircraft and cars are easier to find, and Bangkok is a sound choice for a business trip that cannot wait for the cool months

Why the cool months cost more

Not the flying. The long-range fleet is small next to the light and midsize fleets, and in the weeks before Christmas most of the large-cabin jets that can reach Asia are already placed. What gets tight is the slot, the permit, the parking and a crew that has not used up its hours. At Suvarnabhumi, according to a handler's briefing, a business jet cannot stay overnight, so an aircraft that has dropped its passengers there goes to Don Mueang or flies out empty and returns, and that is in the invoice. A booking made a fortnight before Christmas can still be done, but it pays more and may mean an aircraft brought from the Gulf. The same booking made two months earlier is simpler and cheaper. In the rains the limit is not the aircraft but the weather on the road.

Ways to bring the Bangkok price down

  • Move the dates out of the two weeks around Christmas and New Year. October, early November and March sit on either side of the peak and are usually calmer;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A Global 6000 already in the Gulf or in Asia needs less positioning than one in London, and on a route this long positioning is a large part of the bill;
  • Look at the size of the party before the aircraft. Up to a dozen guests a Global 6000 does the job; a G550 or a G650ER costs more per hour and earns it only for a bigger group or a one-leg plan;
  • Put the stay in the quote. A week with the aircraft waiting at Don Mueang is priced differently from one that flies out and returns, and the better answer depends on the number of days and on what the handler allows.

Types of flights

Bangkok produces a mix unlike the European cities we cover. It is a business capital and the door to half of South-East Asia, and the interesting part is often what happens after the first night.

  • Business visits to the capital, with the visa position settled before the permit is filed;
  • Weekends on the coast at Pattaya or in Hua Hin, flown into U-Tapao or reached by helicopter from the capital;
  • Art, fashion and design weeks in the cool season, with clients who stay a few days and travel light;
  • Day trips to the ruins at Ayutthaya, which a helicopter turns into a half day;
  • Motor racing at Buriram and other regional events, with a Thai operator for the last leg;
  • Asian loops through Phuket, Koh Samui, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bali or the Maldives, with Bangkok as one stop of several.

One-way or return is the question that takes the longest to answer. A return with the aircraft waiting for a fortnight is a large invoice, and a one-way flight out with a scheduled flight home is cheaper than it looks, because the crew would otherwise be paid to wait. We quote both ways so that the difference is visible before you decide.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. On a route as long as London to Bangkok they are rare, and they come from the pattern of the traffic rather than from volume.

Where Bangkok empty legs come from

– The long-haul return. A large-cabin jet flies a party to Bangkok, waits a few days and comes back empty, which produces a westbound leg you can book;

– The Asian loop. Aircraft positioned to Singapore, Hong Kong or the Maldives for a business trip sometimes pass through Bangkok on the way back, and a short regional sector appears at a lower price;

– The overnight shuffle. A jet that has dropped passengers at Suvarnabhumi may be unable to stay, so it flies to Don Mueang or out of the country, and the positioning flight can be offered to a second client.

Because a long leg is unusual, a client who can name a window of several days has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag a Bangkok match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

In Bangkok a helicopter is a way to avoid the road, and the roads are what the city is known for. An app-based service offers seats and whole helicopters on corridors from the capital to Hua Hin and Pattaya, and to Rayong and Chon Buri for business travellers heading for the eastern industrial belt, flying machines that belong to Thai operators and carry up to ten passengers. One of those operators has a base near Suvarnabhumi. For a private client we arrange the operator and the landing site separately and tie both to the jet's timetable.

Bangkok to Ayutthaya
the old capital, with its temples and ruins from the 14th to the 18th century, landing near the historical area
about 30 minutes
Bangkok to Pattaya
the Gulf coast resort, against about two hours by road on a good day
on request
Bangkok to Hua Hin
the royal beach town, against about three hours by road
on request
Bangkok to Rayong and Chon Buri
the eastern industrial belt, for business visits
on request
Airport to hotel, yacht or helipad
a private transfer from the apron, agreed with the operator and the site
on request

Before you plan around a helicopter

– Check the landing place first. A helipad is not a hotel lawn, and the status of a site has to be confirmed before we quote, not after;

– Expect daylight and weather limits. A late landing from London usually means a car on the first night and a helicopter the next morning, and rain and cloud can ground a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble;

– Keep a car in reserve. For Pattaya or Hua Hin the helicopter saves hours when it flies and none when it does not.

We book a helicopter alongside the jet when a site and a permit are in place, and the type is confirmed with the quote. For most clients the car is the answer for the city and the helicopter the answer for the old capital and the coast.

Bangkok charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

BUSINESS · THE VISA QUESTION

Two executives and a week of meetings

Manchester - Bangkok with a stop, Global 6000, about 13 h 05 min · 2 pax

The travellers assumed that a British passport meant visa-free entry. The guidance says visa-free entry covers tourism and that business travel needs the right visa, so the trip was paused for the paperwork and rebooked later. The permit also asks for a specific purpose and a local business contact. We ask about the purpose of the trip on the first call.

NONSTOP · A SHORTER DAY

Six guests who wanted one take-off

London Luton - Bangkok, Gulfstream G650ER, about 11 h 05 min · 6 pax

The party disliked the idea of a stop and asked for a single leg. A G650ER can plan it, with winds, reserves and payload checked, at £170,200 against £156,700 for the Global 6000 with a stop. They paid the difference to save close to two hours and the stop.

FASHION WEEK · LIGHT LUGGAGE

Buyers for the October shows

Biggin Hill - Bangkok with a stop, Global 6000, about 12 h 50 min · 5 pax

Five people who needed to land fresh and reach the shopping centres in the Siam district the same afternoon. The aircraft came in on a morning slot, the handler arranged immigration at the private terminal, and the cars were booked for the full week, since the traffic decides the schedule more than the shows do.

COAST · THE OTHER AIRPORT

A villa near Pattaya, not a hotel in Bangkok

Glasgow - Pattaya, U-Tapao, Global 6000 with a stop, about 13 h 25 min · 8 pax

The family asked for Bangkok because it was the name they knew. The villa was on the Gulf coast, and the road from Bangkok would have added two hours or more. U-Tapao has a 3,505 m runway and round-the-clock customs and immigration, so the jet landed there and the car took 45 minutes.

A DOG ASKED ABOUT · ANSWERED BEFORE THE QUOTE

A labrador and the return paperwork

London to Bangkok and back, Global 6000 · 4 pax + dog

The family asked about the dog first. We explained the Thai import permit, the short life of the health certificate and, on the way back, the rabies blood test and the three-month wait that apply to a country outside the gov.uk list. They left the dog with relatives. Sometimes that is the right result of a quote.

MOTORSPORT · THE LONG WAY NORTH-EAST

A group for the Thai MotoGP weekend

Edinburgh - Bangkok with a stop, Global 6000, about 13 h 15 min · 7 pax

The race is at Buriram, about 400 km from the capital. The jet landed at Don Mueang and stayed there, and a Thai-registered operator, the usual arrangement for domestic sectors, flew the party on. The cost was one extra permit to plan and a long day on the Sunday.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Bangkok

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Bangkok?

About 12 h 50 min from Biggin Hill or London City in a Global 6000 with a stop of roughly an hour on the way, and around 13 h 15 min from Glasgow. An ultra-long-range jet can fly in one leg in about 11 h 05 min. The distance is roughly 5,346 nautical miles in a straight line, and Thailand is six hours ahead of Britain in summer and seven in winter, so an evening departure lands in the late afternoon of the next day.

2How much does a private jet to Bangkok cost?

From about £156,150 one way on a Global 6000 with a stop out of Biggin Hill, and £156,700 from Luton. Manchester is £159,000, Edinburgh £160,800 and Glasgow £161,750. A Gulfstream G650ER flying in one leg from Biggin Hill is £170,050. The cool season from November to February and the weeks around Christmas price above these figures, and permits, landing and parking charges are added once the dates are fixed.

3Which airport should a private jet use in Bangkok?

Don Mueang (DMK / VTBD) for almost every trip. It has no curfew, a private jet terminal run by Mjets, a general aviation terminal run by AOT Ground Aviation Services, and customs and immigration listed as open round the clock. Suvarnabhumi (BKK / VTBS) is the airliner hub, where handlers say business aircraft need seven days' notice, may stay three hours and cannot park overnight. For Pattaya, U-Tapao (UTP / VTBU) has a 3,505 m runway.

4What do British passengers need to enter Thailand on a private jet?

A passport valid for at least six months with a blank page, and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card completed online within three days before landing. Visa-free entry for British citizens is for tourism and for a limited stay set by the Thai rules for the date of travel, and business travel needs the right visa. Officers may ask for evidence of onward travel and funds. The operator needs a landing permit from the Thai aviation authority, and handlers advise seven working days and about two weeks of planning.

5Can a private jet fly from London to Bangkok without a stop?

A Gulfstream G650ER or a Global 7500 can plan it, because the direct line is about 5,346 nm and they are rated at 7,500 and 7,700 nm. A Global 6000 is rated at about 6,000 nm and takes a stop. From Biggin Hill a G650ER in one leg is about £170,050 one way, against £156,150 for the Global 6000 with a stop.

6Can I take my dog to Bangkok on a private jet?

The dog normally travels in the cabin, but both ends have conditions. Thailand asks for an import permit applied for in advance, a microchip, a current rabies vaccination and an official health certificate, and we confirm the entry point and the paperwork in writing before the flight. For the return, Thailand is not in the gov.uk table of listed countries, so the animal needs a Great Britain pet health certificate, a rabies blood test and a three-month wait from the sample, plus a tapeworm treatment for a dog 24 to 120 hours before arrival.
