Private jet charter in Ajaccio

Ajaccio is a little over two hours from the London fields, and the city rewards the client who arrives with a plan: the house where Napoleon was born, a gulf with a sunset coast and the whole granite south within a day's drive. Private Jets UK builds the charter around that plan. Our customers have access to 6,500 jets of all types and configurations available for rent. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives. Our catalog contains the models from the largest manufacturers: Gulfstream, Dassault, Embraer, Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Learjet, Cessna, Beechcraft, Pilatus, HondaJet, etc. We have established partnerships with the world's largest airlines and VIP terminals, which means we can offer you favourable flight conditions and a high level of service. Our experts will manage the organization of your flight - starting with paperwork, agreements, etc., and ending with a transfer and meeting at the airport. Our company provides a full range of business aviation and concierge services. Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte has a 2,300 m runway with an ILS on runway 02, and customs and police are on duty round the clock for business flights notified 48 hours ahead. Figari, the second gateway, serves the far south. The real decisions are the airport, the cabin size and the week you choose.

private jet charter

At your request, the aviation consultants of Private Jets UK will help you choose the jet with the suitable technical parameters (production year, flight hours, and home base). The cost of the private jet charter in Ajaccio depends on many factors, such as the model of the business jet, the number of passengers, departure and destination airports, type of flight, duration of parking, additional services, etc. Therefore, we calculate the price of each order individually taking into account your wishes. You can use an online calculator to get an instant charter quote. Please indicate your real contact details to get the final calculation.

You can calculate the cost of your flight in several ways:

  • using an online calculator on the website (however, it shows only the approximate price);
  • via Messenger (WhatsApp or Telegram);
  • by landline or cell phone;
  • via e-mail (jets@private-jets.co.uk).

Please note that the above-mentioned price is indicative only. It is calculated on this basis: a departure from Biggin Hill, a Cessna Citation CJ3+ and two passengers aboard. If you want to get a personal quote, just fill out the online booking form below. Our aviation consultant will make the calculation within 20 minutes, and then contact you to specify the details of the flight.

How long does it take to fly to Ajaccio?

2 hours 5 minutes from Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, 2 hours 35 minutes from Edinburgh, and one hour of clock difference to allow for on arrival, because Corsica keeps the same time as Paris. At 696 to 1,023 nautical miles from the British fields we use, Ajaccio is a light-jet sector from the south of England and a midsize or larger job from the north. The table gives the sector for the aircraft we normally propose, nonstop in every case.

Door to door, and the clock on the wall

Leave a London airfield at seven in the morning and you are on the ground at Ajaccio at about five past ten local time. The airport lies about 5 km east of the city, so the old town and the port are a short drive from the apron. Handling is compulsory, which means the stand, the car and the catering are settled in one place before you land. The detail to plan around is the border: police and customs are on duty round the clock, but a business or private flight has to be notified 48 hours ahead, and the passenger list goes in with that notice.

Light jet or midsize: how the choice usually goes on this route

– Up to four people with ordinary bags, take a light jet. A little over two hours in a CJ3+ or a Phenom is an easy sector, and the money saved against a bigger cabin buys a better hotel and the drive south;

– Five or six, or four with dive bags, golf clubs and walking poles, we price a midsize alongside, because the hold decides before the seat count does. A hot afternoon also matters: a full midsize leaving with fuel for a long onward leg is checked against the runway, which is 2,300 m long with 2,073 m available for landing on runway 20;

– A large cabin earns its place for a party of ten or more, or when the same aircraft carries on from the island to Dubai or across the Atlantic. The runway takes every business jet, but an aircraft with more than 30 passenger seats needs prior approval from the French authorities for departures from runway 02, and a VIP airliner is the case we check first.

Onward from Ajaccio: when the aircraft wins and when the car does

Corsica is a mountain with a coast road around it, and that is what makes the short flights worth paying for. Bastia is 50 nautical miles away and about 30 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, against roughly two and a half hours by road. Figari, the gateway to Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio, is 30 nautical miles and about 30 minutes by turboprop, against around two hours twenty on the road. Calvi is 38 nautical miles and about 30 minutes in the air, and about three hours by car. Porticcio across the gulf is a 25-minute drive, so nobody charters for it. Across the water, Olbia is 72 nautical miles away and Nice 130, both comfortable jet sectors that fit inside a lunch.

Before you accept an island onward quote

– Who flies the leg. A flight between Britain and France is the ordinary case for a British operator. A hop between two French airports, such as Ajaccio and Bastia or Ajaccio and Nice, is a domestic leg that is usually flown by a French or EU operator, and that is checked before the quote is written, not after it;

– Whether the legs are one booking. Ajaccio to Figari to Nice over a long weekend costs noticeably less arranged as a single trip, because the aircraft and crew stay with you instead of returning to base between stops;

– Which airport you land at. Calvi and Figari carry conditions that Ajaccio does not, and the airports block further down sets them out.

Prices depending on the type of business jet

We can clearly show the high dependence of the cost of the flight, on the type of aircraft - we have collected approximate data, at the price of 1 flight hour, for various types of business jets:

Private jets are ready to take off

Our database contains over 6,500 business jets (about 3,500 in Europe and 3,000 in the rest of the world) of different configurations and production years. The list of models is constantly updated. Unfortunately, we can't post a full list of available jets on our website due to confidentiality issues. Please contact the managers of the company for more accurate information. We will help you choose the best option based on your needs and objectives.

Light jets, the usual choice for four or five people

A little over two hours is an easy sector for a small party. Nothing in this class lacks the range, and the saving over a bigger cabin buys a villa upgrade or a driver for the long road to Bonifacio.

HondaJet Elite · 5 seatsfrom £1,900/h
Cessna Citation CJ3+ · 7 seatsfrom £2,400/h
Embraer Phenom 300E · 8 seatsfrom £2,600/h
Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen2 · 8 seatsfrom £2,700/h

Midsize, for dive bags, golf clubs and a case of red wine

Walking poles, snorkelling kit and whatever came home from the hill estates: the hold fills first on a Corsican week. A midsize also carries the extra fuel more comfortably on a hot afternoon.

Learjet 75 Liberty · 8 seatsfrom £3,000/h
Cessna Citation XLS+ · 9 seatsfrom £3,100/h
Cessna Citation Latitude · 9 seatsfrom £3,900/h
Embraer Praetor 600 · 9 seatsfrom £3,400/h

Super-midsize and large

For a party that travels as one group, a team that wants to work in the air, or a trip that carries on from the island to Dubai or the Americas. The runway takes all of these, and only aircraft with more than 30 passenger seats need the prior approval for departures from runway 02.

Turboprops

The right aircraft for the hops inside the island: Figari, Calvi and Bastia are half an hour or less in the air, and over distances this short a turboprop saves a large share of the cost of a jet.

Beechcraft King Air 350 · 9 seatsfrom £1,650/h

This is a small part of what is available. Corsica is an island, so a quote may name Nice, Marseille, Rome or Olbia as the positioning point for the aircraft. That is normal for an island airport and it is frequently where the better price comes from.

Business aviation airports in Ajaccio

Four airfields matter for a charter to Corsica, and the island is large enough that the choice decides the whole trip, because the roads between them take from an hour and a half to three hours. Choose by the place where you will sleep, not by the aircraft.

Airport What it gives you
Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte
AJA / LFKJ
The answer for the capital, the gulf, the west coast and the road south to Propriano and Sartène. The airport is about 5 km east of the city. Runway 02/20 is 2,300 m by 45 m, runway 02 has a Category I ILS, and the displaced threshold on runway 20 leaves 2,073 m for landing. Neither runway has approach lighting, there is high ground around the field, and circling and visual approaches are not permitted at night. Handling is compulsory, fire cover is category 7 (category 5 overnight in winter, category 9 on 72 hours' notice), Jet A1 and 100LL are on sale, and there is no de-icing and no hangar space for visiting aircraft. Choose it for any programme in the west or centre of the island, or for a larger cabin
Figari Sud-Corse
FSC / LFKF
The southern gateway, for Bonifacio, Porto-Vecchio and the Gulf of Valinco, about 22 km from Bonifacio and a long drive from Ajaccio. Runway 05/23 is 2,480 m by 45 m with an ILS on runway 23 only, and runway 05 is flown on a VOR or RNP approach with strong turbulence reported in the approach. Customs and police work by prior arrangement 48 hours ahead, with customs open from about 05:00 to 17:00 and border police from 05:00 to 16:00 local time all year, general aviation parking needs a permission request to the airport by e-mail, the handler is SCALA Handling, and in the summer season it is a coordinated airport where instrument flights need a slot from COHOR, the French coordinator. Choose it when the programme is in the far south
Bastia Poretta
BIA / LFKB
The north-east gateway, for Bastia, Cap Corse and the east coast, about 17 km south-south-east of the town. The 2,520 m runway 16/34 is the longest on the island, the airport is listed as open round the clock, customs are listed round the clock from April to September and in daylight hours for the rest of the year, and the handler needs permission 48 hours ahead. We confirm the border arrangements and the handler for your date before a first landing. Choose it for the north-east, or as the alternative when the north-west is the real destination, because Calvi is more restricted
Calvi Sainte-Catherine
CLY / LFKC
The Balagne gateway, about 6 km from Calvi, and the one with the most conditions. Runway 18/36 is 2,310 m by 45 m with a localizer approach to runway 18 and no landings at night. Ground handling by Casavia is compulsory, permission is needed 72 hours ahead (24 hours in the IATA summer season), customs work in daylight from May to September and on six hours' notice from October to April, and captains of aircraft above 5,700 kg or with ten or more seats must have made a site reconnaissance or an approved simulator training. Choose it only with a qualified crew; otherwise Bastia is simpler

Before the landing, four practical points:

The handler and the services

The French aeronautical information names Casavia as the general and business aviation handler at Ajaccio, working with the airport operations centre run by the Corsican chamber of commerce, and flight-support databases also list Jetex France there. Jet A1 and 100LL are available, and fuel outside the normal hours can be arranged on request with up to two hours' notice. We order cars and catering through the handler, who works to the flight plan and adjusts when it moves.

Hours, parking and permits

The French AIP prints its times in UTC. In local time, general and business aviation handling runs from about 08:00 to 21:00 in summer and from 09:00 to 17:00 in winter, fuelling from about 06:00 to 20:00 all year, and the control tower is on duty round the clock. Every business or private flight needs prior permission 48 hours ahead. COHOR lists the airport as Level 1, and the handler requests any slot. The handler confirms the local hours for your date.

Border and passport

France is in Schengen and Britain is not, so the first landing on Corsica is where you clear passport control and customs. The police and customs at Ajaccio are on duty round the clock, and a business or private flight is notified 48 hours ahead with the flight plan. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. A first-time visitor may be asked to register a photograph and fingerprints at the EU border system.

Car and the gulf

Give us the terminal as well as the flight, so the driver waits where you come out. The airport is about 5 km from the old town, the Pointe de la Parata is about 12 km from the centre, and Porticcio across the gulf is about 25 minutes by road. A late arrival needs planning, because handling closes in the evening in summer and at about 17:00 in winter, so ask for the last hour the handler can support.

business aviation

Border, passport and flights inside France

The first landing in the Schengen area is where the formalities happen, and on this route that is Ajaccio. The police and customs are available round the clock, provided the notice has gone in, so we send the passenger details with the flight plan. After that Corsica is simply France: a later leg to Nice, Marseille or Paris is a domestic flight with no border to cross, although a temporary border control can be introduced at short notice, so carry the passports. For the return to Britain, the General Aviation Report is filed not earlier than 48 hours and not later than 2 hours before departure.

From the apron to Napoleon's Ajaccio

Napoleon was born in Ajaccio, and the city has never stopped saying so. The Maison Bonaparte, at the corner of rue Saint-Charles and rue Letizia, is a national museum with the room where he was born, the salon and the family quarters. The Palais Fesch grew from the collection of his uncle, Cardinal Fesch, and holds mainly Italian painting from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, described as the largest Italian collection in France after the Louvre. The Imperial Chapel in its south wing is the Bonaparte family vault and is open only in the summer season. The gulf takes over beyond the old town: a Genoese tower at the Pointe de la Parata, four small rocky islets of red porphyry, the Sanguinaires, and the beach at Porticcio on the far side.

Ajaccio airport to the old town
about 5 km, with the port and the Maison Bonaparte a short drive from the apron
typically 15 minutes
Ajaccio to the Pointe de la Parata
about 12 km out along the Route des Sanguinaires, to the Genoese tower and the islets at sunset
typically 25 minutes
Ajaccio to Porticcio

about 25 minutes
Ajaccio to Cargèse
the Greek village on the west coast, with a Latin and a Greek Catholic church facing each other across a small valley
typically 1 hour
Ajaccio to Vizzavona
the halfway point of the GR20, on the Ajaccio - Bastia railway
about 1 h 15 min by train
Ajaccio to Sartène
about 89 km by road, passing the turn for Filitosa and Propriano on the Gulf of Valinco
about 1 h 30 min
Ajaccio to the Aiguilles de Bavella
about 95 km by road, up into the mountains above Zonza
at least 1 h 30 min
Ajaccio to Bonifacio
about 130 km across the south; from Figari airport it is only 22 km
2 hours or more

The prehistoric south and the GR20

Filitosa, near Sollacaro on a hill above the Taravo valley, is a megalithic site where menhirs were carved with human faces, armour and weapons. It was settled from the Neolithic, and the carved statues belong to the Bronze Age. Propriano and Sartène lie further south, the first a harbour on the Gulf of Valinco and the second a granite town of old houses around the Place de la Libération, and the road ends at Bonifacio on its cliff. For walkers, the GR20 does not start at Ajaccio: it runs from Calenzana in the north to Conca in the south, about 180 km and usually about fifteen days, and the halfway station is Vizzavona, an hour and a quarter from Ajaccio on the train. Ajaccio is therefore the gateway to the middle of the route, and Calvi and Figari are the gateways to its two ends.

Corsican food and the Ajaccio wines

Corsican food starts with the pig and the sheep. Prisuttu, coppa and lonzu are the cured meats, figatellu is a smoked liver sausage eaten grilled or roasted, and brocciu is a fresh whey cheese made mostly from sheep milk that turns up in savoury dishes and in the fiadone cheesecake. Canistrelli are the dry biscuits to take home, and chestnut flour is the island's own. The wine to ask for is Ajaccio AOC, an appellation of its own covering 36 communes from the Gulf of Sagone to the Taravo valley. The vineyards are hillside plots averaging about 500 m above the sea on weathered granite, and the main grape is Sciaccarello, which gives a light ruby red with soft tannins and a pale rosé. The area is small, a little over two hundred hectares in all, which is reason enough for a tasting stop.

Where the driver can take you for a tasting

– Domaine Comte Peraldi at Mezzavia, within the commune of Ajaccio, is the nearest of the named estates and fits into a morning between the airport and the hotel;

– Domaine Comte Abbatucci in the Taravo valley is a longer drive south and combines with Filitosa, so a wine day and a prehistoric day can share one car;

– Ask the handler or the hotel to call the estate first, because opening days vary and an unannounced Sunday visit rarely works.

Flying to Ajaccio with a dog or a cat

For a pet the paperwork is the part of a Corsican trip that needs planning, and the flight is the easy bit: the animal sits beside you in the cabin, never in a hold, and on a sector of just over two hours most simply sleep. The date on the health certificate is the detail that goes wrong, because the certificate is valid for only ten days for entry to the EU.

private flight with animals

What an EU country such as France asks for when a pet arrives from Britain:

  • An ISO microchip, fitted before the rabies vaccination or at the same time;
  • A rabies vaccination given when the animal was at least 12 weeks old, with 21 days elapsed before the animal travels;
  • An Animal Health Certificate for each trip, issued by an Official Veterinarian and valid for ten days for entry to the EU. A British pet passport cannot be used to enter the EU;
  • No more than five animals per traveller, presented at a travellers' point of entry, which we confirm in writing for the airport;
  • For dogs, a tapeworm treatment from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival back in Britain, recorded on the paperwork. Cats are exempt.

What catches owners out on the Ajaccio run

– France does not ask for tapeworm treatment on the way in, only Britain asks for it on the way home. That means a vet appointment on the island, in Ajaccio or Porticcio, towards the end of the stay. Ask the hotel or villa for a vet before you travel and count back from the departure time, because a flight that moves by a day can move the window out of reach;

– Some dogs cannot come at all. French customs bans the import of certain attack-dog types, listed as category 1, and asks for pedigree papers for category 2 dogs of the Staffordshire, American Staffordshire and Tosa breeds. If your dog is one of these or a cross, tell us before the quote is written;

– A beach holiday with a dog needs a little research. Dogs are admitted only to certain stretches of the beach at Porticcio, for one, and each villa or hotel has to accept the animal separately, so settle both before the booking.

Requirements for cats, ferrets, birds and anything less usual are collected on our flying with pets guide. For the entry point and the paperwork on the way home, we confirm both in writing before the flight, and our managers check the position for your dates before a booking is taken.

The Ajaccio calendar: a long summer and one big birthday

Ajaccio does not have one season but a long one with a single date at the centre. Summer fills the beaches, the middle of August fills the old town, and the rest of the year belongs to the museums and the mountains. Knowing which week you want matters more than choosing an aircraft.

Winter
December to February is the quiet season. The beaches are empty and the city is left to its residents, which makes it the easiest time to book. City breaks, museum weekends and family visits are the usual reasons to fly
March
The Madonuccia on 18 March, the city's traditional festival. Nothing else is on, so aircraft and rooms are easy to find and a short stay is simple to arrange
Late May
The Régates impériales, a sailing regatta in the Gulf of Ajaccio. A weekend for sailors, with the gulf full of boats and the hotels near the water busy
June
Saint-Érasme on 2 June, the fishermen's feast, followed by the Jazz in Aiacciu festival from June into early July. Beach season has begun and the island is busy without being full
July
Peak summer begins: villa weeks for families and beach holidays, with Figari and Calvi as busy as Ajaccio. Aircraft are easy to find, but a Saturday departure is harder
August
The Napoleonic days run from 12 to 15 August, built around the emperor's birthday on the 15th: an encampment in Place Campinchi, parades, a torchlight procession, wreath-laying at the Maison Bonaparte and a fireworks display on the evening of the 15th. The whole island is on holiday and rooms, cars and aircraft all tighten together
September
The crowds thin but the season does not end. Walkers head for the mountain trails, the wine estates take visitors and the sea is still warm. Couples and small groups, mostly midweek
October
The Tour de Corse Historique, a classic-car rally, runs in the first half of October and crosses the island, so ask early for rooms and cars if your dates overlap. The weather is mild, and quiet weeks resume afterwards

Why the middle of August costs more

The aircraft are rarely the problem. The European light and midsize fleet is large and Ajaccio is within easy reach of it. What gets tight is the permission and the stand, because every business flight needs approval 48 hours ahead, and the hotel rooms and cars, which peak together around 15 August. A booking made ten days before the Napoleonic days can still be done, but it may mean an aircraft positioned from Nice, Marseille or Rome, and that costs more. The same booking made a month earlier is simpler and cheaper. Outside the summer weeks a charter to Ajaccio can usually be arranged in a day or two.

Ways to bring the Ajaccio price down

  • Move the dates by a few days where you can. The weeks either side of 15 August are calmer than the Napoleonic weekend itself, and the end of June and the start of September are quieter than the height of summer;
  • Ask where the aircraft is based. A jet that already sits in Nice, Marseille or Rome takes less positioning than one coming from Britain, and on a sector of this length positioning is a real part of the bill;
  • Count the heads honestly. A light jet and a midsize cost different amounts on this sector: from Biggin Hill the Citation XLS+ is priced about £2,350 above the CJ3+. If the luggage allows the smaller cabin, the saving is real; if it does not, the larger one is the cheaper decision.

Types of flights

Ajaccio produces a different mix from the Alpine or the Italian destinations we cover, because it is a historical capital, a gulf resort and the gateway to a mountain island all at once.

  • Heritage weekends built around Napoleon's house, the Palais Fesch and the Imperial Chapel, usually two or three nights with the Sanguinaires at sunset;
  • Villa and beach holidays on the gulf and the Valinco coast, concentrated in July and August, typically from the south of England;
  • Walking trips to Vizzavona and the middle of the GR20, with boots and poles in the hold, between early summer and September;
  • Food and wine trips to the Ajaccio hill estates and the south, often with Filitosa on the same day;
  • Sailing weekends around the regatta in May;
  • Business and incentive groups, a morning in town and a lunch by the water, plus onward hops to Nice, Marseille or Olbia.

The day trip is the one to look at closely. Land at about five past ten, leave at four in the afternoon local time and you are back on the British side by about five o'clock UK time, with almost six hours on the ground in between. A same-day return means the aircraft and crew wait for you rather than going home, and that waiting is paid for, but it still comes out cheaper than two separate one-way charters. We quote it both ways, so the difference is visible.

Empty Legs

An empty leg is a repositioning flight with nobody aboard, offered at a fraction of the usual price. Ajaccio has no single event that creates them, so they come from the weekly rhythm of a leisure island, and it helps to know what produces them.

Where Ajaccio empty legs come from

– Summer weekends. Aircraft that bring a family on the Friday and leave empty on the Sunday, or that arrive empty to collect a party on the Sunday, put a leg on the market towards Britain, Nice or Paris;

– The Napoleonic days. Arrivals on the 12th and departures after the 15th are one-way flights, and the repositioning leg on the 16th is the one most often offered;

– Island and coastal loops. Operators moving aircraft between Ajaccio, Figari, Nice and Olbia put short hops on the market, and those hops can be cheap.

Because the Corsican corridor is thinner than the busiest London routes, a client who can name a few days rather than one has a far better chance than one who needs a particular evening. What you give up is the usual: the operator owns the date and the hour, and a leg can vanish when the original booking moves. Whatever is free is listed on our empty legs page, and we flag an Ajaccio match the day an operator releases it.

Helicopter charter

On Corsica a helicopter is a tool for the edges of a trip and for the island's slow mountain roads. Corse Hélicoptère is based at Ajaccio airport and works with Air Corsica, offering transfers and scenic flights, and the two panoramic tours it names are the Aiguilles de Bavella and the Calanques de Piana. Where the road takes two or three hours, a helicopter between the island's airports takes half an hour.

A loop of the gulf
the Parata tower, the Sanguinaires islets and the old town from the air
typically 30 minutes
Ajaccio to Figari
30 nm in a straight line, against around two hours twenty on the road, for a party heading to Bonifacio or Porto-Vecchio
about 24 minutes
Ajaccio to Calvi
38 nm in a straight line, against about three hours by car, for the Balagne
about 28 minutes
Ajaccio to Bastia
50 nm in a straight line, against roughly two and a half hours on the road, for a party that has to make a connection
about 34 minutes

Before you plan around a helicopter

– A helicopter cannot land wherever it likes. A landing away from an aerodrome needs an agreed site and the landowner's consent, so we check the status of a villa lawn or a hotel terrace before the quote is written, not after it;

– Weather sets the schedule. Mountain wind and low cloud over the ridges can stop a helicopter on a day when the jet lands without trouble, so a transfer needs a road alternative planned into the same day;

– A transfer between two Corsican airports is a French domestic flight, normally operated by a French operator, so book the helicopter together with the jet and let one team plan the connection.

The machines on this ground are the Airbus H125 for scenic and mountain work, the wider H130 for villa transfers, the H135 and the Bell 429 where a twin is wanted, and the H155 for larger parties. The fleet of the local operator is confirmed when we request the quote, and we book the helicopter alongside the jet so that both crews work to one timetable.

Ajaccio charters from the booking notes: six typical trips

What the corridor looks like once a quote turns into a flight. Six typical jobs of the kind that come through our booking notes, described in outline, with the particulars changed.

LONG WEEKEND · THE EMPEROR'S CITY

Three nights in the old town, with a sunset on the Sanguinaires

Biggin Hill - Ajaccio and return, Citation CJ3+, about 2 h 05 min each way · 4 pax

Wheels up on a Friday morning, in the Maison Bonaparte by the afternoon and at the Pointe de la Parata for the sunset. The aircraft stayed at the airport for the weekend, which is a real line in the quote, and the party left on the Monday after a last visit to the Palais Fesch. Handling and the border notice went in two days ahead.

A SOUTHERN LOOP · LAND ONE AIRPORT, LEAVE FROM ANOTHER

Ajaccio in, Figari out, with Sartène and Bonifacio in between

London Luton - Ajaccio, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 05 min · 6 pax

Six friends landed at Ajaccio, drove south past Filitosa and Propriano to Sartène, spent two nights in Bonifacio and flew home from Figari, 22 km from the cliffs. Both legs were priced as one booking, so the aircraft was positioned once, and the open-jaw routing saved a long day of driving back to the first airport.

WALKERS · BOOTS AND POLES IN THE HOLD

A week on the middle of the GR20

Bristol - Ajaccio, Citation XLS+, about 2 h 10 min · 5 pax

The party took the railway from Ajaccio to Vizzavona, walked the section to the north and came back by the same line. The seat count said a light jet, the rucksacks said otherwise, so we moved the quote up a class and kept the cabin for the people. The car met them at the terminal with the luggage space the group had asked for.

HERITAGE WEEK · AROUND 15 AUGUST

A party for the Napoleonic days

Farnborough - Ajaccio, Phenom 300E, about 1 h 55 min · 6 pax

They wanted to be in town for the parade and the fireworks on the 15th. Rooms and cars were the hard part, not the aircraft, so we asked the handler for the stand early, booked the hotel in parallel and sent the permission request well ahead of the 48 hours the airport asks for. The return left on the 16th, when the repositioning flights are easiest to find.

VILLA WEEK · A DOG ON BOARD

Four adults and a spaniel for a July week above the gulf

Southampton - Ajaccio, Citation XLS+, about 2 h · 4 pax + dog

The Animal Health Certificate had to be dated inside ten days of arrival, and the vet appointment in Ajaccio for the tapeworm treatment had to fall between 24 and 120 hours before the flight home. We booked both with the aircraft, the villa took the dog, and the whole thing was settled in a single exchange of messages rather than three.

EMPTY LEG · SUNDAY EVENING NORTH

A jet already going your way

Ajaccio - London Luton, Phenom 300E empty leg, about 2 h · 3 pax

The aircraft had brought a party in for the weekend and was going home empty. The client gave us a three-day window instead of a date, which is what makes these work, and paid well below a fresh one-way charter for a Sunday evening departure to the London fields.

Frequently asked questions about flying to Ajaccio

1How long is a private jet flight from London to Ajaccio?

About 2 hours 5 minutes from London City and Biggin Hill in a light jet, and around 2 hours from Luton in a Phenom, covering roughly 696 to 733 nautical miles. From Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol allow about 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes, and from Edinburgh or Glasgow around 2 hours 35 minutes. Corsica is one hour ahead of Britain, so a seven o'clock departure lands at about five past ten local time.

2How much does a private jet to Ajaccio cost?

From about £9,850 one way on a light jet out of Biggin Hill, and £9,950 from London City. A Phenom from Luton or Farnborough runs £10,050 to £10,300. A midsize cabin costs £12,450 to £13,600 from the south and the Midlands, and from Scotland allow about £20,650. July, August and the days around 15 August can price above these figures.

3Which airport should a private jet use, Ajaccio, Figari, Bastia or Calvi?

Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte (AJA / LFKJ) for the capital, the gulf and the west coast: it has a 2,300 m runway, an ILS on runway 02 and customs and police on duty round the clock for flights notified 48 hours ahead. Figari (FSC / LFKF) is the better gateway for Bonifacio and the far south, Bastia (BIA / LFKB) serves the north-east, and Calvi (CLY / LFKC) is the most restricted of the four, with no night landings and a crew requirement. Roads between the airports take from an hour and a half to three hours.

4Do I need a visa or customs clearance for Ajaccio?

Britain is outside Schengen and France is inside it, so you clear passport control and customs on arrival at the first airport, which on this route is Ajaccio. The police and customs there are on duty round the clock, but business and private flights have to be notified 48 hours ahead. British passport holders need no visa for up to 90 days in any 180, with a passport less than ten years old and valid for three months beyond departure. The operator and our team handle the aircraft paperwork, including the French permission where it applies.

5Can I fly on from Ajaccio to Figari, Nice or Olbia?

Yes. Figari is 30 nautical miles from Ajaccio and about 30 minutes in a Pilatus PC-12, Bastia is 50 and Calvi 38, each in well under an hour, while Nice is 130 nautical miles and Olbia 72. A French domestic hop is usually flown by an EU operator or approved case by case, so we choose the aircraft for the leg, and a helicopter can cover the island stretch if the landing site is agreed first.

6Can I take my dog to Ajaccio on a private jet?

Yes. The dog travels in the cabin with you, and an EU country such as France asks for a microchip fitted before or with the rabies vaccination, a vaccination given at 12 weeks or older and at least 21 days old, and an Animal Health Certificate valid for ten days for entry. A British pet passport cannot be used. France does not ask for a tapeworm treatment on the way in, but a dog needs one from a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arriving back in Britain. Cats are exempt from the treatment.
